while the Ravens have soared high since that team could not have gotten off to a better start you'll be on this journey with me hey guys now joined inside Nats Park when Steve Smith Senor talks wide receivers I tend to listen and that is exactly what he did recently on newest Ravens rookie devontes Walker so we're going to get into that and much more coming up in this episode which is presented by my friends at Primary Residential Mortgage and with that I'm glad you're here I'm Bobby tret and as always always this is where I bring you Baltimore Sports and Beyond welcome inside the channel Sarah and I were privileged to sit down one-on-one with Steve Smith Senor former Raven uh on radio row at the Super Bowl a couple months ago uh in February and we just were gosh it so lucky to to to have his Insight at our disposal and I don't know what he wants to do in terms of like the next steps in his postf football career obviously he's been an analyst for a handful of years now at NFL Network and he got his side gig on with his YouTube channel breaking down these prospects but God I mean if I'm an NFL team and maybe he gets calls all the time for all I know but if I'm an NFL team I'm picking up the phone and being like Steve we would love to have you as an evaluator as a you know whatever like just come join us because he just has such an understanding in such a way of especially from a a presenting way he's got such a way of explaining these high complex football terms when it comes to dissecting these prospects uh in in layman's terms so that we can all understand it we have a good sense for in this case what devontes Walker the North Carolina product is all about the Ravens used a fourth round pick on him on day three and we'll react to this on the other side here is Steve Smith Senor the Gade on the stop routes what he runs well what he does deep overs and go route post glance he needs to stop opening up the gate because those routes where you need to break down like the stops that's where you need to attack The Leverage break down the DB he's not there yet but he will get there you could clearly see all the athleticism that he had he needs to get stronger at the Finish which that will go into filling up his filling in his body when it gets in when they gets in a real not saying he is not in a real weight room but when you all you do instead of going to class you're working out you're getting strength you're working on your hamstrings your curls your backs your traps your pecs triceps biceps all of those things those little small muscles to help you extend and create a lot of create a lot of force off the release his hands are pretty good he can ball sometimes he short steps on the out routes but his ceiling is very high because he doesn't have a lot of tread on the tire and I just believe moving forward once he gets with a coach that locks him in that now he's living breathing football constantly harping on his game going in details looking at the finite little small things about his feet where's your right foot when you come down where's your left foot are you not being too high not being too low not overselling not underselling when he gets that I would say next off seon you'll see dramatic change once he gets in the building sure then once he get an offseason I would say a second year he'll come out he may end up taking somebody's job that pause he may end up taking somebody's job because of his speed his athleticism and then you add the polishness of a good coach all of a sudden a developmental guy will all of a sudden take your job that's a guy I want coaching my wide receivers that's a guy I'm going to listen to Eric tasa has alluded to that in the past he'll call up Steve and try and get his thoughts on prospects and you see why the guy knows his stuff and we're going to get in into all that more and do a deep dive here right after this because this episode's brought to you by our friends believe was more than 30 minutes of of breakdown analysis that Steve Smith Senor has available up on his YouTube channel so would definitely encourage you to go check that out to familiarize yourself with dantes's game um but but there is there is some Polish that devontes needs to work on right whether it's the finish that Steve speaks of right whether it's the the top of the route stuff um you're not going to worry about him in terms of the vertical threat that's his best gift that he now brings the Ravens and you better believe and if you've been watching the Channel all offseason long you'll know that this ad flavor of size explosiveness and the vertical threat he presents defenses that is getting me fired up I feel like the ant the the Bell has been answered this is what I've been asking for all off season long okay so as Jeff rebeck noted he Diversified the diversification to the wide receiver room is something that we should all be excited about okay he's 61 and change we'll look at that more specifically in a minute in nextg stats 61 193 but he also runs a 43 640 guys a freak athleticism through the roof uh Baltimore's first round pick who they took out of Clemson with the 30th overall selection on opening night Nate Wiggins allowed just one 20 plus yard completion last year for the Tigers okay and it was to devontes so these two are going to be matching up again in practice every single day I think they were roommates I want to say or somebody I can't remember who were roommates during the combine it might might have been other guys but um maybe that was the two corners because they they they've drafted two corners now so anyway there's there's a lot I'm taping this between picks right now so I'm up against the clock here a little bit but but we're going to be doing a uh full day three recap I'm taping this just before four four o'clock on day three but once the seventh round finishes up we're going to do a full comprehensive breakdown of not only day three but the entire weekend uh but but look at this like devontes had 10 receptions on 20 plus yard throws in 2023 that was good for third among all wide receivers in the ACC so the explosiveness is there right this this guy brings you that element of speed which was definitely a trend throughout Eric dasta's first several rounds in terms of the types of players that he coveted but not only is that blend of speed there but you've got the size you've got the the the vertical nature he's got great Pair of Hands and you'll learn about his character in just a bit check check check check check okay nextg stats by the Numbers 61 and change in the height Department 193 pounds as I mentioned uh you see the arm length 33 and a quar inch okay that 43640 the athleticism grade through the roof next gen stats loves them there's a lot of folks that love them especially on the national scene as well some believe the Ravens just got the steel of the entire draft which we'll get to in just a bit but again you know look baitman may be a similar type of build I'm forgetting what he is specifically off the top of my head he is yeah bait is six feet tall 190 so not all that different but to me devontes gives you a little bit more than baitman does in terms of the vertical threat and the projection of what he could be maybe not right out of the gate but once he get gets his feet settled from underneath and and that's exactly what Steve Smith Senor was kind of alluding to there when he said like hey this guy's might might steal somebody's job I'm not saying that could be baitman you never know though you know never know he's certainly going to challenge baitman you would think so more from Spencer Schultz friend of the show Ravens for dummies on X he refers to Walker as a field stretching vertical receiver with crazy strong ball tracking skills awesome body control concentration extremely dedicated hard worker not a fluid intermediate route Runner which is kind of what agent 89 was was hitting on there but the Ravens won't need him to be one because they got a bunch of other options that are going to handle and demand targets there this fall more love this devontes talked about going up against Nate Wiggins there they are in the UNC Clemson ACC matchup last year quote Walker on Wiggins he's a very good player honestly he was probably the best player I ever went against he was very fluid in his Tech technique very fast he was one of the few guys that was hip for hip with me I'm glad to be able to compete against him every day in practice oh baby this is gonna be fun you got a 428 in Nate's 40 and a 436 for devontes iron sharpens iron these two had a hell of a matchup last year can't wait to see that play out in training camp and throughout practice that's going to be a great matchup now the beauty of this I think a lot of NFL teams covet good stories right guys who have battled through adversity overcome it come out the other side and devontes is no exception to that whatsoever you can definitely check that box he was a potential day one or day two pick heading into 23 as Jonas Schaefer noted on social but he missed action after an NCAA eligibility issue which is sort of an outdated rule it's kind of then on top of that didn't didn't do anything special at the Senior Bowl okay here's the actual breakdown and Spencer Schultz did a good job of explaining this we'll go big screen just so you can see it okay this is something else this is this is a heck of a story and what he's been through so he tore his ACL uh in the spring of his senior year of high school so he sat out as freshman year okay stays home wants to be around his family worked at of Bojangles to pay for his rehab Okay so already already L the the discipline and character there he's the he was the primary caregiver for his grandmother in high school after she had multiple surgeries so you can tell the guy is wise Beyond his ears understands responsibility understands accountability he committed to NC Central for the 2020 season but then it was canceled because of the pandemic rides the bench at Ken state for a year before finally breaking out in his second season there goes for 100 yard s on seven catches against Georgia of course that's going to open up and turn some heads enter the transfer portal the following year and chooses UNCC just just to stick around his family and his grandmother in particular who at the time was sick but chooses the tar Heroes over Tennessee Penn State other big-time programs but he's then ruled ineligible to begin this last fall at UNCC I remember I remember seeing this on social and I'm like what is going on this is classic NCAA nonsense right so what does he do doesn't sit and pout he serves as a scout team wide receiver until he was finally ruled eligible okay then goes on to average a 100 yards per game over seven over seven contests in 2023 all right mature hardw worker explosive he's got that downfield threat the ball tracking ability a good pair of hands the measurables are through the roof this is what you should be fired up about he's not a first round selection and the expectations of a first round selection won't be on his shoulders right and on top of that there's really no pressure because you got playmaking ability all over the yard whether it's at wide receiver whether it's at tight end whether it's in the new and improved backfield you name it and so I love the situation right I love the situation that devontes now finds himself in a lot of people love this pick in the National side of things and in particular Chase Daniel former NFL quarterback there he is on the screen backing up Drew Brees in New Orleans during his time together Shawn pton of course was there then Chase tweeted out earlier today again taping this just before four o'clock on day three Ravens taking TZ Walker may end up being the steel of the draft I loved this guy and think he has a bright future Ravens trying to keep up with the Chiefs I quote tweet him and said EDC potentially hitting on wide receiver in back-to-back drafts right yes well Chase sees that and he makes it very clear not potentially in quotes or sorry in caps he did he did hit in back-to-back drafts on wide receiver we all know Z was a hit and it sure looks like Chase is confident enough without even played a playing a snap yet in the NFL that devontes Walker is going to be a hit as well so take that for what it's worth uh but that's a former NFL quarterback I I believe he was over a decade in the league he understands prospects he understands NFL wide receivers and how they they they transition to that level so there you have it shout out Richard carry and Jeff comr thank you both for believing in what I'm building this is your monthly shout out thanks to your support via patreon I appreciate you both if you guys are interested in doing the same visit patreon.com Bobby Tred it's great way to continue to help me support uh to to um to support me on the back end I should say as we build and as we grind uh through this three-day NFL draft frenzy so anyway that is your fourth round pick devontes Walker who the Ravens selected on day three at wide receiver they've also selected a corner of course in the first round that wasn't the only only Corner that was selected earlier today TJ Tampa okay out of Iowa State another Corner that's going to join Baltimore secondary they've perhaps found a plug-and-play day one starting right tackle and Roger rosengarten out of Washington okay they went back to the Penn State well with ad diesa Isaac at outside linebacker and now just just a few moments ago again a few more picks in the draft with the sixth and seventh rounds on Deck but they did go and get their running back out of Marshall by the name of Rasheen Ali and this dude had a ton of production at Marshall so anyway uh we are going to go and do a full comprehensive breakdown of day three in the entire weekend in Live Form later on after the draft finishes up but for now I wanted to just get this one out there on somebody who look the football scene the football world is very excited about what devontes Walker is about and what he could potentially be fitwise for the Ravens as am I I've been calling for it all offseason long he's you know of course there's going to be a learning curve and a transition but I love the fact that that adversity has been faced he's overcome it and uh and now he's going to have a chance to be an immediate contributor not necessarily with a ton of pressure uh like a like a first round pick in Rashad baitman has had or aay right that comes with significant and very unique territory he's gonna have a chance to to hit the ground running right from the jump and I think the Ravens will be better for it so uh thank you so much for the support if you haven't already done so like this video subscribe to the Bobby Baltimore
