WHOA: Katie Porter EVISCERATES conservative to his face as audience ERUPTS

these are legislators and they used a bullhorn inside The Well of the con the Senate of Tennessee was it this is state state legislature yeah um and interrupted the proceedings which of course when that happened on January the 6th in a much larger a more violent way all the people currently cheering on the two Tennessee legislators were the ones who would have been condemning and castigating what happened no I hate what I'm comparing when you have a mob of protesters and they're going into a legislative chamber whether it's at the capitol or whether it's in Tennessee the principle's the same and if you don't have the same principal response to both of those things regardless of scale then you're not principle the principle is different they were Tennessee legislature legislators who went into the chamber and admittedly broke the rules of decorum partly because they were being silenced when they wanted to talk following the rules of decorum about gun violence prevention what happened on January 6th was a bunch of batshit crazy with guns who killed police people yes I I like Bill I agree with what the legislators who were doing the protesting I agree with them about guns everyone knows I think that's why let's see an end it's nice to be back by the way on CNN um I agree with them that's right it's been a while the last time I was on CNN I was talking about this is Katie Porter making short work of British broadcaster Pierce Morgan who is trying and failing here to equate the situation in Tennessee with what happened on January 6th it uh didn't go well now let's be clear what happened on January 6 at the Capitol was not a quote larger and more violent iteration of what happened in the Tennessee State Legislature something that Katie Porter made perfectly clear at appears Morgan and yet that's become a favorite talking point by the right to justify in what's clearly bad faith the move by Tennessee Republicans to expel two black lawmakers who dared speak out against gun violence as nine-year-olds were getting slaughtered in their classrooms but don't just take my word for it does this look like what happened on January 6th everywhere right now hold up your time [Applause] [Applause] Let It Shine Let It Shine [Music] [Applause] in my heart is because that doesn't look like January 6 to me that looks like a bunch of heartbroken families singing in an effort to be heard while their own kids and families are getting killed at the hands of guns while the people whose job it is to do something have opted instead to do nothing and in fact the act that got Justin Jones and Justin Pearson expelled was using a bull horn in The Well of the legislature why because maybe without a bullhorn those Republicans aren't seeming to get it through their skulls that it is their job to pass legislation to keep people safe not the profit margin of gun manufacturers maybe that bullhorn would help them hear the truth behind those piles of cash that are getting doled out by the gun lobby and yet apparently not apparently for those Republicans money and power speak just a little too loudly to hear over the cries of children dying in their own state so let's maybe use some common sense here and recognize that these legislators echoing the voices of the voiceless across that state and the country is not the same as a violent mob of rioters seeking to overturn the election results because they were too butt hurt to accept the fact that their guy lost and so they want the vice president hanged maybe let's not just blindly accept lazy right-wing talking points from people whose so goal it is to serve as apologists for what happened on January 6th I'm not sure whether it was Pierce's intention to serve as a useful idiot for the GOP but that's exactly what's happening here and let's be clear we will always be contending with these arguments from Republicans because they have one job to defend Donald Trump that's it the GOP has devolved into nothing more than a cult of personality for that guy and so no matter what happens the Republicans goal is to pretend that either a January 6 was a totally benign normal tourist visit B even if it was bad Trump had nothing to do with it or see okay fine it was kind of bad but Democrats do the exact same thing and every time someone on the left so much as raises their voice it's basically an Insurrection too all of which is to say these are not serious arguments and those promoting them are not serious people and yet you know it is a serious argument fighting for gun reforms as the United States contends with a never-ending barrage of gun violence and mass shootings in this kind country we've got examples of how common sense gun safety legislation across the planet actually works and yet here in the United States Republicans have decided that more guns somehow equates to more safety even though the numbers clearly show how more guns have expressly led to more mass shootings and the reason why is obvious the gun lobby pays them in just the last cycle alone gun rights groups gave Republicans nearly 4.8 million dollars compared to 15 000 for Democrats that is why Republicans are gaslighting Americans into thinking that more of the only thing that enables these shootings is somehow going to stop these shootings even though it's only served to do the exact opposite consistently for years and years and years those checks are what it cost these right-wing politicians to be at peace with dead Americans with kids getting mowed down in classrooms and at concerts and at church and in grocery stores and in parking lots and Temple for them dead Americans is a price that they are very clearly willing to pay so if Justin Jones and Justin Pearson are going to grab a megaphone to peacefully protest this inaction by Republicans then so be it but let's not pretend for a second that they are harming anyone by doing so because if Republicans are concerned about harming anyone about violence they might want to look at the guns not the people protesting them and finally I'll just leave off with this speech by Tennessee's Justin Jones because he sums it up more eloquently than I ever could movement rising up in Tennessee from Memphis to Nashville to Knoxville to send a message to these anti-democratic forces that you're in the find out portion [Applause] you're the find out portion [Music] that you shut off our microphones and so we had to bring a megaphone [Applause] and so we had to walk up to the front of the well and so we have a clear message that our brother Pierce is going to join us we know I'm confident because I know that after crucifixion comes Resurrection and so when we walk in that chamber on tomorrow as Representatives again we must continue to demands that led us there in the first place then a week after mass shooting hit Nashville rather than past Common Sense gun laws they pass a resolution to expel the two youngest black members in the general assembly and so we walk in there tomorrow with a clear message that we have a demand of Cameron Sexton to resign all right before you go a quick announcement I've
