Who Bought David Gilmour's Black Strat? | 2019 Christie's Auction Highlights / Reactions

[Music] welcome back troglodytes to your daily dose of guitar information the Trog leaves qatar show well the news of Gibson suing Deen yesterday made me forget to go to New York to pick up David Gilmour's black strat for a full review and demo so somebody beat me to it with a staggering bit of $3,975,000 this establishes a brand new world record for any guitar sold at auction that is just astounding now if you're confused what's happening here about four months ago I did a rocker knot segment on the announced Pink Floyd guitar auction essentially he was auctioning all of his instruments off for charity and the big three were the black strat his 55 Les Paul and the Stratocaster that bared serial number one in total there was 127 items donated for a grand total of 21 million four hundred ninety thousand seven hundred fifty thousand dollars raised that's an average of nearly 170 thousand dollars per item so for Federer Friday today I thought we would go ahead and take a look at the results and here my first reactions I haven't looked at them yet so in this video I'm gonna show you the ones that jumped out at me and then tomorrow I'm gonna upload a compilation video of every single guitar with a bunch of different photos and their final sales prices all combined into one nice photo in the first set of six this Les Paul really stands out to me that sold for eighty seven thousand five hundred dollars I'm not exactly too sure what this is it's kind of based off of a Les Paul recording but with the regular humbuckers and that's a really nice top for an early 70s Gibson and this set you get a jazz master and a Jaguar that reach over a hundred thousand dollars apiece the infamous number one Stratocaster brought in 1.8 million here's a couple of interesting fenders I think that's like the base six and you got this thirty thousand dollar electric mandolin now here's a couple of huge surprises here the 55 Les Paul that was used on another brick in the wall solo it brought in four hundred forty seven thousand dollars you put that into perspective you can buy a really nice burst for about two hundred fifty thousand moving on to this 59 custom also bringing two hundred thousand dollars that's about five times the amount it would ever see normally and these Gretchen even fetch some pretty crazy money here especially this white falcon 447,000 that's a pretty staggering price on that ovation as well a hundred thousand dollars for a junior oh my five hundred thousand on that fifty-seven strap those ABS fetched a pretty nice price too and the red Stratocaster 615,000 that's another one a lot of people were really looking forward to see how much it went for I mean those aren't necessarily expensive guitars to buy but that whoa seeing this pink Stratocaster in his collection makes me really wish he had a Hello Kitty one to see how much that could have fetched if this one brought in 100 grand movin early 80s Les Paul hundred thousand dollars I've got to take a look at this one it's a heritage elite that make sense their estimate was about right keep in mind that doesn't even have the original Tim Shaw's in it that has a stats bar and stalled on it doesn't even have the original truss rod cover here's another early Goldtop he had that reached the same price as a burst 250 K it's cool that he had a Coronado in his collection I love the Wildwood series some look better than others that one not particularly my favorite but still 100 grand when he had a left-handed guitar in his collection and take a look at this a travel guitar case just for Pink Floyd hundred seventy five thousand and the very last item auctioned off that day it's almost like everybody was just putting out chump change for everything else $100,000 might seem like a lot of money to you and me but to these guys at this auction there's like note we're waiting for the big 100 million dollars so I hope you guys enjoy taking a look at the completed David Gilmore guitar collection auction with me that Christie's did yesterday now that I see what some of these instruments sold for I no longer feel bad about missing the auction which guitar surprised you the most to see in his collection leave your answer down in the comments section below and we will see you tomorrow on the next episode take care [Music] [Music]
