within the world of Hyrule there resides a forest infamous for its perplexing layout it is said that anyone who lingers in the woods for too long will become lost and could never escape some even believe that people who enter would turn into a sow house or other monsters these rumors would give a name to this mysterious forest a place that was known as the Lost Woods this location would play a prominent role in the hero of times quest as it would lead to the sacred forest meadow Sariah one of the sages to be as well as the heroes childhood friend would teach the young boy Sariah sonn to calm the Goron leader darunia however the woods would become filled with monsters after ganondorf's tyrannical rule seven years later the hero of time returned to the sacred meadow to conquer the forest temple and awaken Saria as one of the sages but this would not be the final visit to the Lost Woods as the boy would return in hopes of finding a friend that he had lost shortly after defeating the demon Kane and returning to his own time a fairy that went by the name of Navi his search would be interrupted by the skull kid wearing Majora's Mask these events were only the beginning of a quest to stop the evil referred to as majora from ending termina a world only accessible through an entrance within the Lost Woods to prevent the lands destruction for Giants residing in the north east south and west were freed from the masks of dungeon bosses with the final confrontation taking place on the moon what was assumed to be a dark and dreary place was instead filled with the grassy field and a lone tree illuminated by the sunlight from above with four children playing in the fields with the exception of a single child one that wore the mask of majora somehow this common peaceful looking place mixed with the dark themes of the story would make it look much more eerie how could a place which caused so much suffering to the residents of the world and would inevitably destroy all of termina be depicted as a serene playground for children this has been one of the greatest mysteries in all of Zelda and even now I'm not sure that I have all the answers Majora's Mask is a filled with many different questions which can be interpreted multiple ways in today's video I'm going to give you one of the many perspectives out there because after doing research I believe that a logical explanation exists for what we see on the moon who exactly are the moon children of Majora's Mask as previously mentioned the strangest part about this isn't the lunar children but the place they reside in it contrasts everything we've seen up to this point it might even make you forget that this is supposed to be the moon so why does it look like this we don't see any signs of grassy fields when observing the moon's surface from below first of all it has to be said that this moon existed prior to Majora's appearance some questioned the origins of the celestial object believing that it was created by the skull kid' with the masks powers however if we look in the text dump of the Nintendo 64 version of the game and search for every moment to the word Moon is brought up there are two different sections that can help us the first one comes from Chikara Observatory he paints a picture asked you exactly how long the moon has been around I have been enamored with the moon since I was a child now I spend my days gazing at it from here the moon has long been considered a mystical body which people have worshiped and feared that alone shows how the mood has a cosmic influence that affects our daily lives but lately there is something quite strange with the moon it's clear that the moon has been around before Skull Kid began to use the mask to cause mischief and given how old shikaka peers to be we can assume that the moon has been around ever since the creation of termina going further down the tech stump there's another quote coming from the two jugglers in Clock Town we're the twin jugglers from the gorman truth we're practicing for the big carnival it happens once in a blue moon or in this year's case once in a really really scary red eyed moon [Music] the origins of the lunar children is unknown though they are involved in a massive side quest to obtain the fierce deity mask one that is implied to be as powerful as majora and can be worn by length however its use is limited to boss battles as well as the fishing holes in the 3ds version each child will challenge the player with a mini dungeon with the cost being the masks you've obtained throughout your journey to get the fierce deity mask every other must be handed to the lunar children with the exception of the Deku Goron and Zora transformation masks the important information doesn't come from the challenges themselves but what the children say upon completing said challenges each one will ask link surprisingly deep questions one example being the child with the twin mold mask who questions what links true face looks like of course this isn't meaning his literal face it's supposed to mean a person's superficial appearance how many people will act one way when in the end it's all just a facade for a child it's very heavy wording to use but given how the whole point of the game is centred around a person behind a mask both literally and metaphorically it ties into the narrative quite well and it may answer all the questions one might have on what we see in the finale of the game because that was only one of the four moon children as expected there's different dialogue for each kid talking to the one wearing all dawa's remains adds even more connections to the game story your friends what kind of people are they I wonder do these people think of you as a friend naturally this connects to the Skull Kid within the game at first the player is given the impression that the intentions of this character are malicious and he is using the masks power to bring ruin to termina however at the end of the game we are given a shocking revelation that the anguish and despair wasn't caused by the Skull Kid but the evil within the mask itself and more of the Imps backstory is given through tattle who reveals that the Skull Kid was all alone after getting into a fight with his friends we also have the story told by Andrews grandmother which speaks of an imp who is devastated after his friends the four giant had left him spoilers this is the same one we see wearing majora's mask the ending gives us away as his dialogue links him to the tale told at the stockpot in I can't go over all of his story as that warrants its own video which luckily I do have and a card to that episode will be in the upper right corner what is said by this child in particular is important because it links skull kids memories to majora and this raises an interesting question what if everything we see on the moon is the byproduct of memories that were corrupted or in contact with majora when we take a step back a lot of what we see can be explained with this theory aside from that one quote in the mini dungeon there are five lunar children on the moon four of them are running around and playing while the one wearing Majora's Mask is sitting curled up under the lone tree it's clearly referencing the story of the IMP and four giants at least from the perspective of the Skull Kid we find out in the ending that the Giants had always looked at him as a friend but since the IMP was causing mischief and banished he assumed that they had abandoned him and while it's not an exact match if you look closely the child wearing Majora's Mask is sitting against a tree similar to the posture of Skull Kid when found by the fairies tattle and tail it's obviously different but both are conveying the same emotion loneliness but we still have two more quotes from both the gut and Georg children both of them share a similar trait both speak of what makes a person happy it sounds similar to the happy mask salesman but not because of his name but due to what he says in the end of the game you sure have managed to make quite a number of people happy the masks you have are filled with happiness this is truly a good happiness one might brush this off as a coincidence but if we talk to the moon children they deliver what is probably the strangest piece of dialogue in this part of the game masks you have a lot you too will you be a mask salesman this is said not by one but all four of the children the exact same die with the exception of the kid under the tree it's honestly one of the most confusing lines to process within this entire game and going further when ripping the models of these leader children from the 3ds version a discovery was made they have the exact same model as a happy mask salesman it can't be a coincidence what we see on the moon has to be linked to the salesman in some way back when miiverse was still around there was an event put on by the admins where they interviewed the happy mask salesman and was called meeting one of the questions asked actually addressed this topic we also received a lot of questions about the children on the moon do you know who they are some people think they looked a little like you I'm not too sure but judging by the fact that they live on the moon surely they cannot be normal children I have not met them in person but I am pretty certain they must be some figment created by Majora's Mask perhaps they look like children because link is himself but a child but why would the memories of the happy mask salesman appear on the moon well remember that Majora's Mask was supposedly in the possession of the mask salesman for quite some time while he never wore it perhaps just being in contact with him was enough he even mentioned how he could feel an evil presence within the mask so perhaps it was trying to get inside his head or maybe this still is the memories of Skull Kid as he was in contact with the happy mask salesman when he robbed him in the Lost Woods let's go a bit further is there a reason the children are wearing the masks of the bosses well if the moon is supposed to be the byproduct of memories corrupted by majora it means the masks from the bosses were made from his power we know that each giant was sealed within one of these masks which would make sense since the four children playing are supposed to represent them and they are the ones wearing the boss masks and in the final battle these same masks fight alongside majora if they were created using the part of the evil entities power anything they corrupt would naturally appear on the moon this idea of corruption makes more sense once you realize that the boss remains you get are actually just the masks that were worn by them the in-game description even proves this by using the word ass this also explains why unlike the other masks you find you cannot wear them since they have the same corruption power as majora it would be too dangerous for the hero to put on again we can look at the interview of the happy mask salesman to confirm our observations when addressing the eyes on the bosses this was his response I know of a rumor that the giant eyeballs are a sign of a fraction of Majora's masks power residing in the creatures could it be that that power has been growing over the last 15 years look closely as you defeat them can you see the dark energy escaping of course the idea that the masks were created by Majora's power isn't that mind-blowing given what we see it's pretty obvious but this all needs to be said as it has to do with the overall theory from what I've gone over in this video it's obvious that the moon is a physical manifestation of both the memories of majora and those he's influenced with symbolism strange dialogue and recycled models that link multiple characters and events to create what is currently one of the most bizarre locations in the Zelda series perhaps now you'll look at the moon in an entirely different way oh and also these boxes and the lunar children's chambers have the exact same facial features as a moon I mean he did merge with the moon which would back up this theory though to be transparent with you the moon's design in the remake had a complete makeover and yet the box's design stayed the same so coincidence maybe I hope you guys enjoyed today's Theory I know you've all been bombarded with breath of the wild to videos not only for me but other creators there are plenty of theories from other Zelda games I would like to cover and I also want to get another zelda cartoons video up though this doesn't mean that there won't be any more breath of the wild sequel videos if you want to see the episode where I go more in depth with Skull Kid as a character that will be in the end card if you want to see another video about the moon children feel free to check out vortex II gaming's episodes that link will be in the description both of us came to very similar conclusions and I do recommend a bunch of her Majora's Mask videos special thanks to all my patrons as you are
