in this video I'm going to compare the moles g200 again the moles X100 both these lights are made by June which is also the sponsor of this video if you want to know more about how sponsored reviews work that's down in the description but in short I am paid but not paid to say anything positive they don't get to tell me what to make or say they don't get to see this video until you're seeing it which is right now everything I share here is based on my own experience it's my own opinion so without further Ado let's get into it starting off with what do you get when you purchase both of these lights just a quick little note that with the X100 there are several different combo kits that you can get the one that I have is the mid-range one not the pro which is all the accessories so starting with the X100 of course you get the light you get a mini reflector you get power cables you get like a little mesh bag to hold power cables onto the light stand so that they don't just dangle you get a little lanyard thing there's a Bowens mount adapter and then finally a case for everything to go inside next up we have the g200 I did just review this like go ahead and check that video out here afterwards if you'd like to watch that what you get when you purchase this light is of course the light a Bowens Mount reflector power cables a control box and a case for everything to go inside next up let's talk about the light features I'm going to do the ones that they both share and then get into the ones that are different from each other first off both these lights are bi-color lights they both have the same range of 2700 to 6500 Kelvin they're both dimmable from zero to one hundred percent power they both are controllable via Bluetooth so there is an app that you can control all the June lights from they both also have music mode since there's a microphone on each of the units which will pick up sound and then flicker the lights according to the sound or beat that it is hearing they both have quick setting presets where if you click the buttons you'll change the power or Kelvin temperature in quick preset increments they both have an umbrella Mount however the X100 is on its bones Mount reflector it's not included on the actual unit itself the g200 has it built in and then both lights have what's called live mode or Studio mode whatever you call it June calls it live mode on the X100 this is a setting that you select within the light on the g200 it's not actually built into the light however it does have a physical on off switch and that is what's going to make it a studio mode light now to cover the individual features that each light has that the other does not on the X100 there are three different ways to power the light there is the DC cables that it does come with and then in my case it also comes with that battery bank that you can just attach to the light you can purchase these battery Banks separately they are about 120 dollars I will link that down in the description as well and then lastly you can also power the X100 via USBC for mounting the X100 there are two different ways you can mount the light there are two quarter 20 mounts on the bottom of the light and then of course there is the bones mount adapter if you get it separately or get that combo kit with it it does have its traditional light stand spigot so that you can attach it to light stands now for the g200 light what makes it a bit different is that it does have a Bone's Mount just built into the light so you won't need an adapter for this light and then it also does boast the feature of a Max mode which will boost the light from a 200 watt light up to a 300 watt light so you get added intensity and output with the g200 all right so up next we have light readings as it's super important for everybody to know how accurate and how powerful are both of these lights so I've done some readings with my second spectrometer at one meter distance with the included reflector that each light comes with as you might have noticed the X100 is not very color accurate at low power outputs you can see on all the one percents it's not very accurate in fact it's very inaccurate so I did some further testing and I found that anything under 10 power on the X100 is pretty much guaranteed to be inaccurate and specifically anything under five percent is incredibly inaccurate so keep this in mind uh that if you're planning on using the X100 below five percent or even 10 power it's not very accurate you might be getting a completely different reading for example I was testing it at 5600 Kelvin at say five percent and it was reading as like 4 300 Kelvin so either this is an issue with the unit that I received or this is a common issue so do some research obviously if you plan on using this light at low power output on the g200 it's clear that it's very accurate everything there is looking great it's a very nice and powerful light next up I think it's important to mention fan noise and heat both of these lights get extremely warm as I mentioned in the g200 video about how hot that one gets and some issues I encountered make sure you check out that video but when it comes to the X100 it also does get really warm in fact that light came with a million labels warning you about how hot it is in comparison to each other at the light head itself they both get really warm if you touch it your hand will definitely feel the heat more so specifically at the front of the light if you put your hand an object or something too close to that it is very much likely to either melt burn after for some period of time so be really careful what you're putting in front of these lights with the g200 there are fans in the light head and the control box this is so that it keeps as much heat out of the light head as possible that being said fan noise is going to obviously be a concern for some people depending on what you plan on using these lights for the g200 as I mentioned in the review is Extremely Loud especially in Max mode it's like having a small cooling fan on it's very noticeable within 10 feet we're being in the same room as the light on the X100 the fans sound incredibly great they're really quiet even at 100 output for a period of time it doesn't really ramp up and if it does ramp up you can really barely notice it two more things I want to note is light roll off so let me just show you real quick with the reflector and without the reflector on both of these lights just so you can see that the X100 does have a bit of a hot spot issue the g200 is much better less hot spotting and when it comes to the X100 specifically it does have that battery and I want to just talk real quick about hot swapping because some people might be interested in doing that so if you have the power cables plugged into the unit and you want to put the battery on and then have it just continue being used maybe some for some reason you wanted to swap like that it does not work as soon as you pull that power plug out the light will just turn off however if you run off of battery and then you put the power cable into the light then it actually will work so I thought this would be useful for someone to know now when it comes to using these lights and who I see using these lights and for what these are definitely designed for filmmakers creators anybody that needs really good lighting for the X100 filmmakers are going to be using this both indoors and Outdoors on the go or wherever it's super portable has a small footprint and has three different ways to power it this just makes it super attractive to rig it up into hard reach places Chuck it in your bag and be ready to go wherever you go the g200 on the other hand it's really not designed as much to be on the go so it's more of a studio light only this is great for photographers this is great for product filmmakers commercial socials things of that nature interviews whatever it is you're up to when it comes to using these lights I use both of them in the studio and then I took both of them out with me into the forest the g200 I have a power bank that I can take the wall outlet and plug into so that was how I was able to power that one out and about as my key light then I used the X100 with the battery grip as my Edge light and because it's so small handheld and portable I just had my friend hold it up for me because I forgot a light stand so so it goes to show you how useful that X100 is on the go for sure I'm actually using the X100 right now to create those fake blinds on the wall using a gobo and it's running off of battery and it's been running for quite some time so it does really great now real quick I want to mention just a few cons that I've encountered with both lights as could be useful for people on the g200 the cons that I've found is that the cables for the light is just a little bit short they're not very long I would like to see them a bit longer especially since due to its low profile of a light you're going to Boom this up and probably stick it somewhere Out Of Reach so you you definitely want a little bit more length so that you can still reach the light box or at least just plug it into an outlet probably the biggest con the g200 has is that there's no battery option it is just the power cables that's it no v-mount no option for v-mount no USBC nothing so I think this is pretty frustrating for a lot of people who are hoping that this light could be more versatile and be taken out and about you still can you just have to have a power system that does take a wall plug so now for the cons on the X100 obviously I think one of the bigger ones is that inaccuracy under 10 power with pretty much any Kelvin temperature on the light it's a bit of a con but it's possible it could be fixed at some point but this is pretty common to find and buy color lights it's just at low power they're not able to do that because the mixing technology is just so I don't know sensitive basically the light is intended to to be more accurate the more power you're giving it I would say the other con that the X100 has is that it only hot swaps one way not both ways it would have been nice to see that you could just hot swap it really easily I think for some people another con of the X100 is that it is a proprietary amount if you want bones Mount you have to use the adapter however I don't find that to be a super big con because I actually sometimes like when things just have small little reflector dishes so that I can just pop in my bag take it on the go because it works just as good sometimes so I'm not unhappy with it but other people might be for the g200 what I like about this light is its form factor this is one of the greater things about this light because most 200 or even 300 watt lights are definitely not this small at the light head so this is just really helpful to get it in hard to reach places it makes it a little bit more versatile I also like that you have that boost mode making it about a 300 watt light disguised as a 200 watt light obviously the fan noise it's not ideal but hey it's there great if you need it I also like that it's a really color accurate light pretty powerful and that it's priced really competitively to other lights of its similar power output so all together it's not a bad light I think it's pretty decent it's definitely not for everybody I think there are totally fine options out there that might be cheaper and still do some of the same things if if not better so you know keep in mind that it's a great light but maybe it's not always for everyone now for the X100 this light I really like the form factor on it it's super thin super lightweight I like that it has two quarter 20 mounts on it you can also use the bones Mount as a way to mount it up but those quarter 20 mounts are really great for me because I like rigging my stuff up in weird ways so I'll use magic arms I'll use monopods or just other things that I have lying around to get something in a hard to reach place and this light really really checks those boxes basically it's really versatile it's also super portable because you can just take it you don't have to use it inside of the case it comes with you could just Chuck it inside your camera bag because it's not taking up much space I like that there's so many different ways to power it as well I think this is one of the most attractive things about this light USBC you got the battery grip which you know doesn't last forever that battery grip I think they rate it at like you get 30 minutes if you run the thing at 100 power the whole time but you know it's not bad for just on the go and most of the time I'm gonna use it at like 50 and maybe maybe even less if it's just a hard light source so really I think it's a it's a really useful light I like the benefits that it has to offer of course its disadvantages that is inaccurate at low output so really it's not meant to be you know put out at 10 power it's unfortunate I think at that point you're looking at the G60 which I did review on so maybe I should do a formal comparison between the G60 and the X100 from June let me know in the comments if that's something that you'd be interested in it's just my comparison on those two lights as I now have all of these lights now if there are questions you have that I wasn't able to answer in this video go ahead and put them down in the comments I'll do my best to answer them if I can or feel free to just say hello always like seeing everybody who frequently watches all the videos on the channel speaking of which there are some really exciting videos coming out so make sure you browse around watch some old ones if you haven't already and I will see you in the next video boom shakalaka foreign
