[Music] out of all the dragon ball z games i've played i think budokai 3 and tenkaichi 3 are the gold standard of dbz games if you've watched my tenkaichi series you'll know where i stand on these two games while both of these games are based on the same franchise and are both fighting games they play rather differently and have their own set of strengths and weaknesses [Music] tenkeichi iii has the advantage in terms of sheer graphical power as it was launched three years after budokai 3 and is available on more powerful hardware however the hd re-release of buddha k3 can help offset this they both share the cell shading style and both are stunning in their own right the models in tenkaichi iii are more refined and of higher quality they also take battle damage during a fight which contributes significantly to the overall impact of the battles budokai 3's models in my view have better lighting they're more vibrant and intense when transformed and powered up both games key blasts look beautiful but tenkaichi 3s are undoubtedly a step up in terms of effects lighting and dynamic camera movements you are awesome i can't wait to see what you'll do next time later [Music] i hope you'll come back someday see you later [Music] budokai 3's hud and ui are far stronger the hud is intended to symbolize a scouter and it communicates information in a more simple format the character select screen is considerably easier to use and it shows you exactly how your character will appear in the match tank g3 has a significant disadvantage when it comes to character select due to its large roster while it is an improvement over previous 10khz games it can still be difficult to locate the character you seek the main thing i don't like about the character select is that they don't show the character's model and if you choose an alternate outfit you don't even get to see what it looks like until you enter a battle it's only a number that you choose from and you must remember which number corresponds to the outfit that you want the hud is a bit generic i do actually really like it as it's clear and easy to read while fighting but i prefer budokai 3s mainly for the excellent theming but graphics aren't the only factor when it comes to a game's presentation there's also the music and budokai three just blows tenkaichi iii out of the water when it comes to this aspect and sure i do realize that many of the tracks in budokai 3 were discovered to be plagiarized but that doesn't change how amazing everything sounds it's ironically incredibly distinctive and the opening theme is simply unforgettable when it comes to the openings budokai's 3s is fantastic the lovely 2d animation looks beautiful and is well synchronized with the music track it gets you pumped up for the game it also fits perfectly with the game's overall aesthetic the style complements the menus and the 3d assets do their best to preserve the anime style i never skip this opening i really dislike the style they chose to go with in tenkaichi 3's opening it doesn't match the overall style of the game at all and the animation is quite stiff the characters just look off and have freaky expressions the music is fine i guess but this opening is just completely outclassed [Music] while both of these games are fighting games they play extremely differently budokai 3's side on perspective more closely resembles a more traditional fighting game with its behind the camera perspective and more free roaming movement tenkaichi 3 takes a radically different approach these systems are so different in terms of how they feel to play that it's difficult to compare them and it's entirely up to the player preference as to which is more enjoyable budokai 3 is far more beginner friendly with less complicated movement and more intuitive controls this however means that your movement options are limited while budokai 3 is easier to learn it does require a higher level of technical skill and understanding of the combo system 10k3 is significantly more open you have more freedom to roam around and approach a flight from almost any angle however the learning curve is very steep as the controls can take quite a bit of getting used to tank he 3's gameplay is more fast paced while budokai 3 plays a bit slower the timing for dodges is very strict in tenkaichi 3 and can lead to a lot of interruptions when trying to perform certain moves while the freedom of movement is fantastic in many ways it can sometimes get in the way of combat the way skills function in budokai 3 is a bit cumbersome you must use the capsule system to attach skills and transformations to characters but there are only a limited number of slots available so if you want to turn into a super saiyan 3 you'll need to use a lot of the skill slots because you'll also require all previous transformations this leaves little room for special moves in 10k3 it's much better as there are different moves for different forms built into the characters so there is no need to juggle skill slots like i said before whether you enjoy one style of gameplay or the other it's completely up to player preference while tk3 does a better job of replicating what it's like to be a z fighter i prefer budokai 3's gameplay for its pure enjoyment aspect it's easy to learn and play but it can also get quite technical if you want to delve deeper into the game's mechanics [Music] 3 features far more characters to play with than budokai 3. yet many of them feel eerily identical there are also a lot of characters where you're sort of like uh whatever budokai 3's smaller cast allows the characters to stand out from one another more even with that in mind tenkaichi 3's roster is significantly more diverse with each character managing to add their own flare to a fight when it comes to the campaigns of these games i wish budokai 3 and tenkaichi 3 would have a baby together tenkaichi 3's presentation of the story fights is a lot better and more dynamic but budokai 3 story mode as a whole is more engaging it has an oval world you can fly around and explore and while the plot is mostly delivered through still images of the characters the voice acting and pacing are far better and they delve into a lot more detail if they merge these two story modes together i think it would be amazing they kind of tried doing this with tenkaichi 2 but they ended up backpedaling for 10k3 and it never reached its true potential [Music] budokai 3 gives me a lot of nostalgia i used to play it a lot as a kid and it has a special place in my heart tenkaichi 3 on the other hand is the polar opposite i only recently played this game after being turned off by the tenkaichi series as a kid so that is my bias when it comes to this topic even though i believe 10kg3 outperforms budokai 3 in many aspects i still believe budokai 3 is the superior game as gameplay is more enjoyable and the story mode has me engrossed for hours budokai 3 is a better game while tenkaichi 3 is a better dragon ball z game [Music] you
