Gold is not where you find it everyone on earth will tell you it is but simply not I found enough gold to know that it isn't people tell you that because they don't understand where gold is or because they don't want you to understand where gold is and sometimes both gold miners are notoriously secretive for obvious reasons and a lot of time people don't grasp just how heavy Gold is gold is 19 times heavier than water it's five times heavier than black sand which itself is heavier than any of these other rocks in the creek a piece of gold this size you could not pick up with one hand seriously it's incredibly heavy finding out what accumulates is important because the two types of gold is found you find gold that accumulates you find gold it just dropped out last year now if you're walking river banks place it in flood zones most of the time you just can be walking last year's gold so when it rained last here washed gold down out of the mountains the finer gold got washed up into the river came up here and settle on these big banks along side of the river and dropped out there in the top inch or two so you can walk a whole bunch of that there and you'll find some fine gold but I want to walk out accumulations of gold have been piling up for 20 or 30 years and the problem with walking last year's gold is by next year when water flows over this bank again it's going to settle down - that will go deposited on top and then it's settled down next year it keeps going down until it hits something it can't go through usually that's bedrock in some places or the type of clay that form the sort of pseudo bedrock and in some places it's a compacted dirt that's just so hard that nothing passes through it which is also called pseudo bedrock either way you've got to go down to the gold stops moving and then you have this year's gold year before that near before that year before that going back to however long it spins and somebody actually walked that spot all in one place and so you can find hundreds of times what you might find up there on the bank if you get down in one of these crevices in the river because this is bedrock that I'm standing on here and all this across here is bedrock that's exposed so when you get down in these crevices they act like a sluice water flows over here when the river is you know this high in the springtime and winter it comes over here gold rolls up over drops down here and there's no current pull it out of here Oh so it settles on the rocks works its way underneath them because it's heavier than they are and eventually after a few years it's going to find itself in the bottom where it's going to join up with whatever other goal is settled there for the past few years now most of these rivers would have been gold found have been dredged and that's a big suction gadget just goes through and kind of vacuums up the entire river rocks and all processes that the gold and spits it out well some places that's illegal now and some places would dissipated get a dredge into it so they never they got it right and a lot of times dredges are just lazy here they got this pile that was a good spot I didn't get this little corner right here and so those are kind of looking for places where gold would have accumulated over the years and the best place to do it is in bedrock so that gives us the basic we're going to find gold vertically in other words it won't be up here or it's going to be down here every time now it's possible that a giant gold nugget rolled up on that bank and got stuck there theoretically but odds are it's going to be in the bottom of this crevice many more times it's going to be up there because gold is heavy instance it's not likely to have rolled up it takes a lot of weird circumstances that you have happened it's possible a gold nugget rolled down here at 40 miles an hour is flood one time hit a rock ricocheted off and landed up in that tree not very likely it's not what's going up there to look for it and that's what we're dealing with here probabilities gold is not likely to be up on top of that tree and it's not likely to have very much of it up on that Bank you're most likely to find it in the bedrock now you can't always get to bedrock that's a problem some rivers red bedrock is 40 or 50 or 200 feet deep so you got kind of got to get bedrock up there and go with what you can deal with we're going to cover that in time now there are several types of gold prospecting that we're going to cover in the next series one of them is crevasses that's where you go down into very small crevices down to like a paper thin thickness and pull gold out of the crack up to four or five feet wide like these cracks here might be this is all kind of covered under crevices and that's one of the favorite types of prospecting because it's very profitable in terms of how much gold you find compared to how much dirt you had to move to get to it another kind is where you don't have bedrock exposed and so you have to go through a creek and find out where it would be behind a rock or behind a tree things like that we'll cover that too another kind is walking the bank - sometimes in certain conditions there's a pretty good accumulation of gold settling every year up on that bank and it's worth working it sometimes is what's called high banking which is where you go up out of the river someplace where the river used to flow only flows sometimes dig down over there and get gold then there's metal detecting which is places where there's not much water or places where you just can walk a lot of area that's looking for nuggets that's not a lot of fun sometimes then there's dry washes in dry washes you don't have water so the tools that you've learned here what will help you much because you can't use a sluice because there's no water to run through it you can't pan because of no water to run to the pan now it is possible to dry pan and we'll cover that in time as well but this is just to give you an idea the very types of gold anything that you can do so that's it we've covered where to find gold vertically now you talk about where to find gold horizontally when water comes down this river it follows a certain course now most goals and be carried in that course where where something happens to interrupt that course either a big rock the wall I have to flow around it that creates a high pressure area behind the rock and a low pressure area in front of the rock so say this is the big rock in the middle of a river water flows down like this it has to flow around it that means very high pressure here or it's going to wash out under the rock gold isn't likely to settle here when it comes around here the water kind of swirls like this if you ever watch a rock in the creek you'll notice is happening water comes around like this on both sides where that happens it's actually sucking dirt in behind the rock particularly the heavier dirt which is going to be like the settle there like gold and so if you're going to go to a river that doesn't have bedrock you're going to want to come and find a big rock in the middle of the river where gold is blowing past it comes around and drops underneath on the downhill side of the river so dig back under here and that's we likely find gold behind a rock the same holds true of trees in the middle of the river the other important thing is the actual sneaking of the river all rivers tend to go back and forth a lot around he'll do that valleys and so on when a river goes into a curve you'll more likely find it on the leading edge of the curve than the trailing edge of the curve so you're looking down theme in the river right now and if you look around the corner you see the river kind of flows in that direction round right like that you're going to be likely to find gold leading into that corner because the water goes down here carrying the gold it washes up onto that Bank and settles there oh well then it washes around the outside and the outside corners going faster and so it doesn't tend to settle so that it's going to wash away and we likely find very much on the other side of this Bank but the next time you go into a curve it's going to be on the leading into the curve again so that's we can be likely to find gold which slows down and where it finds a place to drop it here is a great spot for finding gold because you got Rapids right there and as soon as Rapids come down here it stops it kind of levels out a lot that means it goes from narrow channels that are moving very quickly to carry gold through them and then down here settles out a lot which mean gold can have a chance to settle into the dirt and will persuade down to the bedrock I spent several weeks walking this area here and it's yielded over a half an ounce of gold so this is a really good spot but another place to walk would be a rock like that down there that's got a nice crevice in it and behind it and so you would not walk on this side of it because again your high pressure you're going to wash it out go to the back side of it your low pressure is going to catch the gold behind it and then these are general principles that apply to most of the gold the problem with it is that everyone knows these basic principles if you hunt gold at all you're likely to already know them and that means is that that's what everyone goes to dig and so sometimes a lot of the times if you're in a popular area you're much better off going to replace the aerial things as a horrible spot because no one else has worked there then you are going to a theoretically good spot which would have been good if you've got any 150 years ago before it got sucked and dredged down a whole bunch of times and people like you came along and walks in all the good spots so now the unlikely spots actually sometimes have more gold in them and I'm fortunate that something you just going to know by testing and sampling so
