what's in my tool bag well today i'm going to answer that hey welcome back to the handy manual your spot for tips on tools work vehicle optimization and how to be more efficient on the job today i'm going to take you on a tour of my tool bag setup and show you the evolution of how i got to the one i currently use it's been a fun process to see what works for me over time if you're just starting out as a handyman or trades person hopefully this gives you a good idea of how to load up your tool bag so let's jump right into the tour so right off the bat you can see the tool bag is rectangular i found this works best for me you can store big tools in there like your hammer pry bars i got my drill so we'll go right in here and i'll show you what the contents in the bag currently right now so as you saw i got my drill it's in milwaukee it's the surge really powerful drill i just got some nail filler dries really quickly you can paint and patch in one day just got a sanding block with a medium grit and fine grit my carpenter square i really only use this if i'm framing this isn't an everyday use type of thing but it's really nice to have these notches so you can just run clean lines all the way down the piece of wood you're cutting so here i got my magnetic wristband this thing comes in handy so much um just if you're going up and down a ladder you can just keep all your screws nails on your person so continuing on here let me show you my organization system for small parts so i recently had this recently got this and this has been pretty good let me show you what i got here these are my go-to anchors they're easy anchors you can get them at home deeper lows these ones hold 75 pounds per anchor i recently was walking through and i saw that they make a new anchor that holds up to like 200 pounds so these are really all that you need for for drywall i use them for any size you know hanging pictures all the way up to heavy mirrors so these come in handy i get some smaller anchors here these are good for like if you're installing a towel bar and you get a drill through tile you can just pop these little guys in and they get pretty good hold just got some random nuts and washers here a couple of small screws but that's about it this is basically all i need to to get the job done in a customer's home all right so continuing on inside the tool bag here i got some 3m low adhesive tape this stuff is really good if you're using on a painted wall or something there's a low risk of this tape peeling off the paint but i use this for caulking around tubs different things like that i've got my hammer nothing special just a husky hammer all right i get a couple viewtainers here these just hold some extra large hex bits and this one holds my other drill bits i got a bunch of different things in here get some countersink bits i have a metal step bit i got a magnetic uh bit to hold screws say if you're on a ladder or something and just some odds and ends i got the tile bits so this view tanner is really great to keep all these items in one spot instead of having it splayed out all over your tool bag all right so around the perimeter inside here i just got a nylon brush this is good if you accidentally spill some paint on a floor mat or a rug you can just use some say goof off and just scrub that right out got my vice grips here these are great i also have right next to a smaller kind of needle nose vice grip use these a lot pliers here needle nose got some tin snips sometimes you gotta fabricate some aluminum one time i made a rain diverter and these came in handy uh over it on this side i got just a small little kit of pry bars these are good for removing trim whatnot don't use these too much but they come in handy every once in a while if if i have to utilize like a zip tie these can just cut them right off i got a few chisels woodworking chisels i've got a cold chisel for masonry yeah i just got a couple putty knifes just got a quick clamp here this is good for holding pieces of wood if you're gluing now this is my tape measure it's a fast cap tape measure this comes in handy if you need to draw dimensions out here super helpful so this is where i keep my marking tools from hanging pictures just got a torpedo level got my stud finder another stud finder that's just a magnetic piece that you run around along the wall see drywall screws got a long drill bit got a flashlight some super glue this is just a prying tool here that i use to get out rotted wood got my knife the wall some spare blades here and i've got a can opener paint so so over here i just have some combination wrenches here this is where i keep all my screwdrivers uh i just got have some different bits in this guy here i've also got a small just a small screwdriver to get in tight spaces my marking tools get a black and red milwaukee marker i recently got this new pencil it's a carpenter pencil but it's like kind of a mechanical pencil always stay sharp pencil that's what it's called so you just literally pop that out voila there you go new tip so with this i use in combination with this to erase my marks just keep some allen wrenches i got metric and sae and here this is just a truck that works with my impact driver so turns it into a drill so on the sides i just got my drill bits keep some extra drill bits here a little messy go to clean that up and the other side keep some drill bits basic milwaukee i like that the hex style bit being able to just pop these quick in my impact driver like that instead of carrying around a separate drill just makes things easier unless i'm screwing in a bunch of screws and then in that case i'll have a second drill handy while i've got my driver in this one so i've been through a lot of different style bags tool buckets things like that and i found that this tool bag works great i love the shape of it low profile it fits in the van nicely and it just works for me like i said inside you could fit longer tools like a hammer and you know pry bars things like that it's kind of a catch-all in there and then i can clean it out say every other week but it works well with this handle it's got a bunch of different size pockets to fit everything i've been through a few different systems i had a big tool bag that was circular but it's kind of an awkward shape to carry around uh once i had a tool bucket and man i filled that thing to the brim it was super heavy probably 50 60 pounds i'd carry that everywhere on my job i'll show you a picture of it here you can see it's just a five gallon bucket and i put this piece of wood on the bottom and i installed casters on it so that i could literally walk it to the job site i installed a strap on it so i could carry it upstairs i had a rubber handle that fit over the existing typical five gallon bucket handle and i used that for a while but it really didn't work again it was circular so it was kind of an awkward shape and it was just too heavy i carried too many things in it then this was the next stage here and what i love about this is that it's cheap cost wise but it doesn't sacrifice the quality of the build uh i think the previous one i had in this lasted me about two years so it held up you know it lasted two years before the pockets started to rip a little bit but for the for the price i think this is like between 12 and 15 bucks you can pick it up on amazon i'll leave a link in the description and uh it's just an all-around good tool bag i haven't had any issues it also has these kind of rubber feet on the bottom so that the bottom doesn't get torn up too badly and i just really like it hey thanks so much for watching i hope that gives you an idea of how to construct your tool bag and to realize that it's a process that evolved over time if you got some value out of that i'd love it if you could hit the like button also comment below to let me know what you'd like to see on future videos until next time be well
