- I've gotten a lot of requests for this kind of video. This is not a guide for what you should have in your bag. It's just what I happen to carry with me whenever I leave the house. It's not exactly the best stuff. It's not the cheapest stuff. It's just what I have. Maybe you can relate or maybe there's some things here that you could take away. Or maybe you just wanna judge me. Leave a comment, I don't care at all. It helps with the algorithm anyway. This video is sponsored by Skill Share. This is the year, man. You've got time. I know you've got the time. It's time to get working on that skill you've been trying to hone in on. Can't put filmmaker in your Twitter bio if you're not working on any film. Just saying. Get yourself moving with Skill Share. It's an online learning community designed for real life so you can grow your skills at your own time and at your own pace so you don't have to put the rest of your life on hold. This is a true story. I first used Skill Share all the way back in 2013 where I took Danielle Gonzalez's storyboarding class and these are the actual storyboards from that. I don't remember this at all. I don't know what the hell I was working on. I love Skill Share because it's a quick and easy way to get industry insight from real working professionals for cheap and on your own time so there's no excuse not to hone in on that skill you've been putting off. It's usually just a little bit under 10 dollars a month but for you people, the first 1000 of you to click the link in the description below, you will get a free two month premium membership. That's free learning. You won't even be getting any calls from Sally Mae. So go on, get going. There's like a billion art, design, filmmaking, music, even marketing classes on there so click the link in the description below and go flex your creative muscles. We can start with the bag itself. This is probably the most frequent question that I get whenever this bag shows up in a video. I'm sorry that the answer isn't very satisfying. This is a Herschel Supply Company bag. I got it off of Amazon in 2016 for 55 bucks. It's called the survey and I don't think it exists on Amazon anymore. It's also very basic. There is just one big pocket on the inside and one zipper. Two compartments. That's it. It kind of makes it a little bit of a pain in the ass when I have to bring my camera around but not having the padding of additional pockets actually gives me more room. The buckles on the front look nice but they're just magnets so it's easy to get in and out. It's not the best backpack in the world but it's very minimal and I like the way it looks. Also, this backpack exists in Animal Crossing. That's pretty cool. There are like a billion other backpacks out there with all different types of features. I'm sure you can find one that is perfect for you. For example, maybe you might like the PDP Nintendo Switch backpack with all sorts of compartments like, for example, a compartment specifically for a Nintendo Switch and also a compartment specifically for a laptop so you don't have to worry about having a case for either of those. I gave that backpack to my brother. I just like the simplicity of this backpack way too much. You also might see a trend here. I don't treat all of my things that great. I kind of like just throwing things in one big compartment and that's it. I don't really care if things clank together. All my stuff has a lived in feel I guess you could say. Since I just kind of throw my Switch into my bag, I put it in a case first, don't worry, I currently use this WaterField Designs case that I got a really long time ago. It's very nice and fancy. It's real leather. Has those nice magnetic clasps. If I were to just carry my Switch around like this, it would look like a clutch bag. It's got very thick, soft padding. It has three-ish compartments on the inside and one big zipper on the back. You can kind of cram an 8BitDo controller in there. Obviously the light would fit the best. I really only keep a very small USBC to USBC cable in there. The one that I use is the one that came with my Anker portable battery. I cannot in good conscience recommend this case to anybody because it is 80 dollars. That's what good leather will do for you. The only reason I have it is because it was sent to me. So only get it if you have the money and you really like leather. Or maybe you just need a new clutch bag. Again, I only use it because it was given to me and it's worth 80 (clanking) dollars. I also really like this Animal Crossing case that I got straight from the Nintendo Store here in New York. It's just the right kind of minimal. It's a slightly lower profile. Protects the Switch just enough and has a really nice design. It looks like it might be hard to get right now but it's the same design as some of the Nintendo's other official cases and there's plenty of very similar ones that are just as low profile and cheap. The ones I like are made by HORI, PowerA, and PDP makes good ones too. You may have noticed that I have a regular old Nintendo Switch in my bag and not a Switch Lite. For a while I was rocking a Switch Lite in my bag but Nintendo did not make it easy to bounce back and forth between the two devices. Or I would be worried that my save file would conflict with the one on my main switch or I would accidentally play an older save file or something. It just wasn't worth the hassle. Plus now with Animal Crossing, my island is only on my normal Switch and cannot be transferred so the Switch Lite has more or less retired. Doomed to a life of only being a YouTube thumbnail model. Whenever I say that I don't use something anymore, people in the comments inevitably ask if they can have it. First of all, no. I don't know you. Second, I frequently reach back into the archive for new videos whenever there's maybe an update, a new version, or maybe an accessory that goes along with one of these old devices so get your own. I always have this Anker portable battery with me. It's become a permanent resident of my bag. Honestly, it's mostly there for my phone. I hardly ever run out of phone battery but it's good to know that I've got a back up in the event that I do. This particular one is the 13400 milliamp hour one. It's smaller and packs way more than enough juice. It claims it can charge the Switch 1.7 times on a full charge. I feel like I've charged my phone way more than that on one charge. I've also used this to charge my laptop in a pinch. It has a USBC and a USBA port and you can charge two devices at the same time. Obviously, that will drain the battery faster and I haven't actually tested this on this battery but it usually charges both devices slower. Now I personally use the Nintendo Switch branded one because I don't trust any other portable battery's power delivery but if your portable battery is USBPD compliant or it has at least an IQ or an iSmart port, then it's probably fine. Just don't plug your portable battery into your dock like a big old idiot. That's just asking for trouble. It's gonna fry everything. Another device that usually lives in my bag is the 8BitDo SM30 Pro. Not the plus. I use the plus in my home setup and I love it but I like the regular version for its smaller overall form factor. So it's way more portable. Even when I don't have my Switch with me, this is good to have around because it's also a fantastic controller for my MacBook. When I do have my Switch with me, it makes for a good controller in tabletop mode or even a second player if I wanna be able to use split joy con. If you want something with an even smaller form factor, there's the regular SM30. It's cheaper and doesn't have thumb sticks so it's a lower profile. It also doesn't have a home button, share button, or L2 and R2 buttons so there's a bit of compromise. It's a good controller for most 2D games 'cause you don't need all that stuff but obviously, having those extra buttons would be more ideal. The 8BitDo Lite is the most low profile controller if you really wanna save room but it's not nearly as comfortable as having something that feels like an actual Super Nintendo controller and the thumb sticks of the Pro Plus makes it way more versatile for all different types of games, it's way easier to play 3D games or games that require both thumb sticks. It's also a great idea to have an extra Nintendo Switch charger in your bag. Personally, I almost never bring a Nintendo Switch charger because I almost never run out of battery on my Switch and if I ever do, I know it's not ideal but if I'm in a pinch, I can always just use my MacBook charger to charge my Switch. I know, I'm sorry. I'm willing to accept the risk if anything were to happen to my Switch but it's always good to have an additional charger anyway so you don't have to unhook it from your desk setup if you need it and I strictly advise against getting any third party option. If I do feel the need to carry a dock with me, then I will definitely have a charger on me but the dock that I choose to take is the one that I have inside this BASSTOP enclosure. It's a regular Switch dock. I think it's actually a refurbished one. I just place it inside this cheap plastic shell to make it way smaller. It can even fit inside of some Switch cases. This saved my ass at PAX East this year when the streaming booth did not have a Switch dock for me. Luckily, I had my own. Now this is a lot of little stuff to just be throwing in my bag that has zero compartments so I use one of these gritted things that my brother gave me like a really long time ago. The straps are very random so it's a little awkward to get everything to fit perfectly. I kind of wish it were just a regular checkerboard grid but it serves its purpose. Basically everything but the Switch itself fits in this grid. My 8BitDo controller and battery bank basically live in here. There's also a zipper pocket on the back that I've filled with a bunch of business cards and pens and junk and some really small cables. This makes my big void of a backpack way more organized. It also splits my backpack into sections. My laptop slides right behind it and my Switch slides right in front of it. When I'm traveling, my grid typically looks like this. That's a magic mouse, otherwise known as the worst mouse ever created. I only use it because it connects to my MacBook easily and it's super low profile and the battery lasts like forever. There's also a moleskin sketchbook in here. I used to sketch a lot more than I do now. It's basically just a pocket for more business cards. I always try my best not to throw out the twisty ties whenever I get a new cable. I always just try to tie them on to the ends when I'm using them and then tie them off when I'm not using them but another good idea is to get yourself a roll of Velcro tape. If you plan on unraveling a cable frequently, Velcro tape is the way to go. Or if your twisty ties break. I also usually keep a portable emulator machine in my bag 'cause they're just so small and the batteries usually last a while. It used to be BittBoy or a Pocket Go but I have since upgraded to the RG350-M. It's a little big but sometimes this makes it into my bag instead of my Switch. This actually makes it into my jacket pocket way more than it makes it into my bag but it's the summer now. Us boys just don't get to carry anything with us anymore. We're just walking around. Unless maybe I should start carrying a clutch with me. I almost forgot. My headphones. I'm not with the times so I still use wired headphones. But I use these for everything. I use these every single time I stream and these typically come with me every single time I leave the house. Gotta throw a little lightning adaptor on the end 'cause Apple sucks. I also have a very short six inch extension cable on the end. I know this is weird but six inches gives me exactly enough slack to be able to comfortably plug these into my speakers when I'm streaming. I frequently leave the extension cable on even though I don't need it when I'm just going on the subway or something which makes the cable look comically long. It's really weird to be on the subway and feel like a retrophile when everybody else is wearing Air Pods and you're over there with wired ear buds but I just love the simplicity and the ease of use of plugging things in wired. Wired headphones never really get in my way. I also prefer ear buds because over the ear headphones kind of get uncomfortable for me. Sometimes they push in on the top of your head which feels weird and also when my ears are completely encased, sometimes I get this like weird sort of dizzy feeling especially if they're noise canceling. So I just rock ear buds and I love ear buds. These are great. I only got them because they're the newer versions of the ones that I used to use as in-ear monitors when I used to play the drums. Also, they have a microphone and a controller on them so they're great for using with your phone and they're also great for plugging into your Switch and they work with any game that has built in voice chat on the Switch. But these aren't as good as the old ones. There's newer ones that seem like they're probably way better, the SE215-CL, but they're 90 dollars and do not have a mic so a little less practical. These look way closer to the in-ears that I used to have back in the day though. I might just have to pick up a pair to leave on my desktop setup and then these can live forever in my bag. I also always have a cheapo backup pair of headphones in my bag. I have the ones that came with my iPhone that have the little lightning adaptor at the bottom and I also have a cheapo pair of Skull Candy's or something that have the 3.5 millimeter plug at the bottom for my laptop or my Switch or anything else because nothing is worse than forgetting your headphones at home. Although you know what it is worse? People who play their music or watch a video at full blast in public. I've always wanted to get like a brand new pair of those cheapo Skull Candy's and then leave them in my bag and whenever I hear someone playing loud music or something like that, I just reach over and hand them a brand new pair of headphones and not say anything but you know that they're not gonna use them and they're gonna be mad about it for some reason. I've never heard somebody kindly ask somebody else to turn their phone down or just put on headphones and the other person go okay, I'm sorry. Never happens. They're always pissed for some reason. But that's pretty much everything that I carry with me in my bag wherever I go almost daily. Mostly Nintendo Switch related but I threw in a bunch of stuff that's not at all Nintendo Switch related. Not sorry. You would've asked me about it in the comments anyway if I didn't. Again, it's not the best stuff. Most of the stuff was chosen for its small-ish form factor or its versatility but I like what I've been working with for the past few years. I never feel like I'm missing something. I can get all my work done and more importantly, I can get my gaming done without taking up too much space. So anyway, what do you guys think about all of the stuff that I have in my Switch bag? Is there anything that you wanna take away from this? Is there anything you'd recommend that I should have? Is there anything that I left out? Leave it in the comments below. At me on Twitter, any and all of this other social media garbage. A friend who has Switch and maybe is going somewhere. Who's going anywhere? Stay home. Not worth it. It's not worth going out right now. But if you are and maybe you travel and maybe they might wanna see this video. Thank you very much.
