hey there Jay Johnson windowpurchase.com and if you're on my YouTube channel you can go directly to windowpurchase.com and see a whole list of videos so you can just go to the videos you want to watch instead of looking all over YouTube trying to find videos you may or may not want to watch and if you want to know anything about my history or background there's plenty of videos in the introductory or my consulting services that go through that with you so the video I want to do right now has to do with what do I look for if I walk into a showroom because I talk to a lot of clients say oh we drove around to four different showrooms great you spend a lot of time going to showrooms what did you do when you got there um here's what I do don't get caught up in the ambiance because a lot of companies that's why they have nice showrooms they get caught up in the ambiance I walk in the first thing I'm asking for is I want to see a copy of the warranty I'll sit down and read the warranty in the showroom if I don't like it I get up and leave or I'll ask them what's up with this warranty why is there so many exclusions they don't like that that's the last place they want you to go is straight to warranty you come in they start showing you while we're talking about Windows crank this up that colors all that but if you can't live with the warranty you're not going to buy the Windows start with warranties walk into a showroom ask them can I see a copy of your warranty sit down and read that sucker or not waste your time the other thing is when I see a window style that I'm looking for I'll let them demo the window for me show me how it works but then I want to play with it get back move out of the way coming in I want to play with the window because if a window is difficult to use they're going to make it look easy that's what they do you need to play with that window because once it's installed you're the one going up or down or cranking out or figuring out how to clean it you need to play with that window yourself so it's fine if they demo it for you once you're twice up front then get them out of the way and then you do it and see how easy it is or isn't and keep in mind when you go into most showrooms the windows don't typically have blinds hanging in front of them like in your home and that could be an issue with tilting them into clean or crank them out or whatever because it's not a real life situation because you don't have real things in the way that may or may not fit so you got to be aware of that too so I want to demo that window after they're done demoing it I want to see does it really go up and not that easy does it really crank out that easy does it really tilt in that easy stuff like that the other thing is I want to see a corner cut of that window I want to see a bottom corner cut of that window in addition to the whole window most companies don't show you a bottom corner cut and even some of them that do it doesn't mean it's a good window frame but they'll still show you a bottom corner cut but a lot of companies don't really want to show you what's going on on the inside of the window and even if you see the inside of the window unless you know what I know you really don't know what you're looking at you're just making assumptions on whether it's good bad or indifferent stuff like that um those are some of the things I look for when I walk into a showroom I want to see a copy of the warranty if they already tell me we don't have a copy here first red flag well you know we don't really give you a copy till the guy comes out second red flag go and ask of the warranty sit down and read it if you can live with it move on from there throughout the showroom start looking at stuff if you can't live with it get up and leave stop wasting your time you can ask a lot of questions in the showroom you can go over colors and different styles and patterns and grid configurations and stuff like that but the other thing I would find out is what's their lead time if their lead time is well beyond what you're willing to wait for you may have to suck it up and wait anyway or if you're doing a Fix and Flip and you need them in four weeks and their lead time is 22. get out of the showroom stop wasting your time get out move on but don't put it on the company you know if you wait to the last second to make a decision and all of a sudden well we can't use you you guys have too long of a late time all right no you waited too long to start your process that's on you you know when you're starting you know when you need to finish don't put it on the company if they don't meet your timeline so that's another thing I'd want to know what's the lead time and you can ask stuff like you know do you guys have liability insurance you can have them show you or prove to you what their Better Business Bureau rating is and whether or not they're accredited because if you go into a showroom and say hey show me your BBB rating they're not going to want to show you if it's enough and then if they do you're sitting there saying they're enough I would leave if they're not even accredited watch my video on the BBB and what it takes to be accredited which is your willingness to resolve complaints if they have enough writing they're not even accredited what are you doing in the showroom get out go spend your time elsewhere get out of that showroom these are the things I Target as soon as I walk in I don't get caught up on the cosmetics and the Ambiance and the Aesthetics and oh that's a cool Plant over there and wow look at that door I want to go right to the warranty the other thing I want to know is I want to talk about some of the nfrc ratings I want to know the efficiency ratings on the window if I'm looking for a specific rating and I walk in and they can't meet that rating I'm out I don't care what the window looks like I can find another window that looks just as good that's going to meet the ratings that I'm looking for to make sure it's compatible for my climate so warranty efficiency ratings liability insurance who gets the permits Better Business Bureau ratings are they accredited you know stuff like that stuff that actually matters because when the windows come out and they're putting those holes in the wall because all that window or door is doing is filling up a hole in the wall that's it it never gets a break laws of physics is never going to change and you can't fool Mother Nature so that product is either built to the best of its ability using the best engineering the best parts the best components or it's not and it comes with a great warranty where it doesn't and they have liability insurance so they don't or they have a great rating on the BBB or they don't or they're credited or they don't they want to show you a warranty because of how good it is or they don't this isn't rocket science people go right for the throat the companies have nothing to worry about they're going to bring all this stuff they're going to go through it with you but the companies that have a lot to worry about they're going to try to avoid bringing these things up and showing you these things so they're going to Hope from the time you walk in God I hope this guide is not asking for a copy of the warranty I hope he does not want me to take them to the BBB website and show them what our rating is stuff like that that's how I navigate a showroom so I can find more out in five minutes in the showroom than you spending an hour there because I know what to ask and I know what to look for and a lot of window people that don't sell very good windows really don't like me because I'm I'm a threat to them and I'm teaching people how to be the same threat and remember you're only a threat if you got something to hide so Jay johnsonwindowpurchase.com thank you so much for watching my Channel or being on my website if you need further assistance pick up a copy of my
