What makes a makeup modern and here's how to achieve it | ALI ANDREEA

some of us are stuck in Old trends that do not service anymore so let me show you how to create a modern 2023 makeup look hi everyone welcome back to my channel I'm Andre Ali I'm a professional makeup artist based in Paris and in today's video I'm going to show you how to create the modern look what is the modern look what exactly are the steps that makes the makeup look very trendy right now and here's the thing we are so busy doing so many things in life and I'm sure that this is the last thing that you've had on your mind but this is my job and if you want to know about new products or new techniques or everything that's new in makeup or demystify makeup together that's what I'm here for I just want you to know that these tips might not work for everyone as usual so please don't feel offended or feel like you've been left out or or I don't know ashamed the last thing that I want is for you to leave my channel feeling worse than you came if anything I want everyone to have a good time to learn something new maybe to engage with this community so please take everything with a grain of salt now let's get into it try to get the hair out of the way it's going to look a little bit weird sorry guys we're going to start with some kind of skin brightener and I'm usually using the Charlotte Tilbury one but this is a new product from say I think it's very pretty it's not as metallic as Charlotte Tilbury you will see in a second can you get closer please it looks like this that's the consistency very very lightweight a lot lighter than Charlotte Tilbury and has more like a gel texture now I think back in the days if you would use this type of product you wouldn't show that much because the base was so thick that it was like what's the point of applying a very luminous base if you're gonna come with you know a very thick full coverage Foundation but things have changed right so definitely you want to start with a luminous base Contour before anything else because it's going to look a lot softer so I'm using my voice Contour stick and the shade truffle a little bit here same with lip contouring and then I'm going to apply the foundation and I've talked about this foundation and why this is so amazing I love this foundation for the Luminosity the brightness that it has without being extra dewy it's like the perfect foundation for today's look that is like semi matte let's take it with this brush I have this brush from Persona Cosmetics so it has one side for foundation the other side for concealer I'm using the color Punjab for my Foundation I could use Punjab where I could use Fiji and first I'm going to apply Punjab a little bit in the places where I haven't applied anything and then with what is left on the brush I blend the Contour and the reason why it's softer is because it Blends literally with the Contour I like this brush a lot actually okay you want to Contour where it serves you you don't want to Contour just because everyone Contours in that particular place if it does not serve you then don't apply Contour in that area so for me I kind of use the Contour on my forehead as a bronzer it's not as much to Contour my small forehead it's more to warm up the skin and then you know what for my nose I'll take this other brush this is also from persona take this brush okay all right so having the Contour before your foundation creates this very soft look and like I said 2023 it's all about a soft looking makeup base but obviously it's very worked um in in French they say meaning you know you've worked to have that result next product is going to be concealer and because my concealer is slightly lighter I will use it to also brighten certain parts of the face where I don't necessarily need coverage but I just want that brightness I'm going to take the other side of this brush and you see when you apply your concealer in an angle under your eyes just pulls the eyes like so creates a more elongated effect so you have to understand that these small things really make a difference so if back in the days you would apply your concealer only here or you remember there was like that triangle that people would apply under their eyes now it's all about having that concealer right here that's two words your hairline like I said small things but they make the whole difference and what I've noticed if you leave your concealer on your skin for a couple of minutes it kind of dries a little bit on your face and it almost feels like it has more coverage so for example for the nose I'm gonna I'm not gonna blend it right away for me this is going to be a very transformative kind of makeup okay I'm gonna blend this and now I'm gonna use the foundation brush to really blend the edges and only now I will blend the nose Contour blush there was a period of time when nobody used blush because you would connect the blush with the 80s and that would have been a dated look now blush it's all about the blush and colors like this would have been like what nobody would use this now the brighter the better and again the placement of blush used to be different I think that we used to apply blush everyone used to apply blush more like on the apples of the cheeks but now everyone kind of applies blush like this it's all about youth I just realized this now we're all trying to look incredibly youthful back in the days the makeup was more focused on you know enhance your natural beauty correct and conceal where you can hide you know your imperfections and emphasize like enhance your qualities now everything is about a more lifted jaw lifted eyes juicy High cheeks it's all about youth we're living in a society that's literally obsessed with youth which which is crazy it's crazy right I'm not here to judge what we all chose to promote I'm here just to show you what is modern okay so we're not gonna debate so I'm not gonna debate that okay I I I'm not that's not why I'm here for it I take this magnificent blush Tower 28 love this guy in the color happy hour makes me happy and like I said I'm gonna apply this in this shape very close to the eye I personally think I look ridiculous if I apply too much blush um I don't care how modern it is there are some people that applies a crazy amount of blush and they look absolutely fantastic it's not my case because also depends on your on your face shape on your bone structure so because I have um I mean I've got dark circles but also I've got that crevice here I cannot go too high with my blush if I wouldn't have had it then I could eventually go higher so that's pretty much the max that my face can take when it comes to blush and now I feel like the edges are a little bit harsh so I go with my concealer brush to make sure everything is nice and smooth yes baking I think it's part of the past now it's all about baby baking and let me show you what baby baking is um it's basically using a smaller accessory to do your baking now I'm joking actually these are very very practical especially for makeup artists I got these from Huda Beauty I'm going to use this powder from Givenchy I've talked about how this powder is so good for modern makeup and how it can you know replace some of your old favorites let's make sure that the concealer is nicely spread under the eyes this is how much powder I've added on the Powder Puff and I press it here sort of where this crevice is because applying your powder like this it will also brighten your under eyes and it will make the nose look more narrow that's why people apply you see because you add more light here so a little bit of powder this is literally baby baking same with this area we're gonna Baby bake around the nose and around the mouth this is not really baking because with baking means is you apply the powder and you let it sit you let It Bake for a couple of minutes but with this technique I'm not applying an excess of powder so basically I take the powder look this is the amount I take and then I press it in the Powder Puff the micro Powder Puff you don't need this if you if you have a powder puff that's perfectly fine and then you press it and there is no excess powder that you need to brush off I still prefer a matte forehead I don't like when my forehead is too oily plus I know my skin so well it it will get a little bit oily in the T-Zone in a second so that's why I'm applying a little bit of powder there powder in between my eyebrows I've always done this even if maybe I haven't showed in every one of my videos if I don't apply powder in between my eyebrows my skin will melt whatever eyebrow product I'm gonna use and this is the baby baking I dare you to try this technique it might not work if you're in your 70s or you might be surprised you gotta try it makeup is all about try to see if it's working for you obviously these tips might not work for everyone but you might just take things that are working for you let's just take eyebrows for example if you have very very thin eyebrows I think that the you know boyish eyebrow that's very thick and sort of undone and a little bit like wild that's not going to be for you however if you do have eyebrow material and if you want to create a more natural looking eyebrow I dare you to try uh tinted eyebrow gel now because I've done the lamination so eyebrow elimination is a process where they apply some kind of product that will soften your eyebrows and then they are behaving so literally all I need to do is brush my eyebrows upwards and they are staying like this all day long not in a million years my eyebrows would have been able to stay like this with such a soft eyebrow product back in the days I would have to use soap brows and you know brow freeze and all these uh other products to have my eyebrows behave but because I did the eyebrow elimination it just cuts the process into literally a few seconds while I apply an eyebrow gel I do not care if my eyebrows are not identical I'm trying to do my best I do my eyebrow lamination at Lucia from full-time glam you guys have seen her on my channel she's this beautiful girl very very talented a very modern product but I think it's not easy to use would be glossy brow flake this probably came out about five years ago it wasn't as popular when it came out but I think that now it's it's even more popular so this is the type of product that will create hair like Strokes literally definitely I need a little bit of filling right here if you used to apply five different eyeshadows that belongs to the Past because it's all about very neutral eye very much like simple eye with not too many colors involved in your makeup look it's all about changing more the shape of your eye than adding color if it makes any sense and I was filming this part before but unfortunately there was no sound and I was using the color fluid from hindash so basically this is what I have on my eyelids I was using this brush to blend it right this is one fantastic product color fluid you know what I'm just gonna apply one more layer just to show you this is the color right and you can apply this on your eyelids and leave it just like that or this could be the base for another eyeshadow that you plan to use but in my opinion this is so beautiful as it is that it doesn't even need anything else on top creates this beautiful Shadow and the way I've applied it so it's everywhere on my eyelid but then you see this lifted effect basically how I've created this um I've applied it and then taken my concealer brush I didn't add any more concealer just make sure that this place under the eyebrow and this angled shape it's nicely clean because if you go with the Shadow with this Shadow if you go lower it will make your eyes drop and look very weird especially if it's not nicely straight it doesn't have to be too straight you don't have to apply concealer with a flat brush that's a very dated look in my opinion so this line right here must be kind of softer I would say and now here's a trick about contouring your eye like I said it's all about the very elongated shape it's all about lifting the eyes to the Gods it's all about the Bella Hadid effect basically how you achieve that is by imagine you have a circle imagine your drawing and you have a circle how do you create from a circle a more almond shape you add on the sides you add shadow on the sides right that's exactly what you're going to do with the eye I I have pretty brown eyes so when you're doing your pencil or eyeliner because this is what I'm going to apply I imagine I basically want to from here till here and then all of the space from here to the end of my eye has to be filled in order to lift the eyes basically this point of the eye with this point of the eye has to be at the same level doesn't make any sense what I'm saying so now I proceed to do that so like I said I need to fill in this space make sure that there's no skin peeking through here I'm trying to make it super super soft and thin you don't want to add more volume here on the center that's not going to serve you okay you want to make it as thin as possible right here and then the thicker at the end and then from here I'm lifting the eye by repositioning my eye Contour this eyeliner that we do it's basically a fake shape of your eye you reposition your eye basically with with the help of makeup foreign that's pretty much it you don't want to go too far with this and then I take a small brush and blend you still want to make this kind of soft some people like to use eye shadow instead of a pencil I'm comfortable with a pencil and I think for my eye and the color of my hair I need something that's slightly darker in order to really fake a different eye shape right so that's done and then a little bit of Darkness right here because this is what gives that feline eyes now the inner corner is positioned a little bit lower which gives the illusion that this side of the eye is higher it doesn't make any sense it does right make sure mascara plays a huge role I think that we used to apply like people you would see on social media applying thick eyelashes it's not about that anymore it's all about enhancing making your lashes look bigger using serums and all this type of products to actually make your own lashes look good I'm gonna lift the lashes a little bit with with the eyelash curler from Laura Mercier and this is lash Clash fantastic fantastic mascara mascara on the lower lashes that's going to make the look very modern I'm gonna Open the Eyes okay and we're done with the eyes the only thing that I would maybe add would be a little bit of satin eyeshadow I think glittery eyeshadow it's very like outdated obviously depends where what you're doing the makeup for but I'm talking day to day right so let me show you an eye shadow that I think it's just so beautiful to apply on top of this so this is the type of eye shadow I would use let me show you on top of my eye shadow it's very soft it's very delicate but hey that's just you know that's just my opinion I'm going to take it with this flat brush we'll add that soft luminosity only on the center nothing crazy when it comes to lipstick I think the biggest shift that has happened um the past few years is the lip liner everyone is over lining their lips I mean not everyone you get the point right I mean if you're watching this and like I don't overlap my lips I understand but I mean in the modern look it's all about brownish lip liners lip liners like this one hip and happy I don't even use anymore when I go to a client right now and I've got you know different kind of clients I've got my private clients and I have the celebrities in both categories they are all asking me the they say oh I want that very natural lip but a little bit over line and they already know that they want the brownish lip liner I have a lot of favorites but right now I have a huge love for deep taupe this is such a perfect realistic color to overline the lips and then you could apply a variety of lipsticks on top of it so I have made a video about how to over line your lips what five years ago go check out that video maybe I'm gonna link it in here it's still amazing even if it's very old I don't want to brag but I have always had this thing where I would be able to predict something that will go super big like I remember that five years ago I was Consulting for Brands and I would tell everyone do cream blushes cream blushes are going to be amazing that is before Fenty Beauty launched their cream blushes because I think after that a lot of Brands started to do it and some you know some Brands listen to me some didn't but I was right same with the lip liner and the over lined lips I've always said this is going to be a huge huge Trend I said this many years ago and it became but back to the lips this is how you want to over line the lips you want to over line just the Cupid's bow so imagine I am drawing a heart right you see same thing on the lower lip I go a little bit over only in the middle this is going to be easier that's why I'm doing all these crazy drawings now you want to follow the natural lip line and I rest my pinky on my chin after I've done the lip you can literally apply I could apply this color I could apply this color with the same lip liner color I could apply this I could apply this everything would work this because you're only applying it in the inner part of the lip and you leave the outside with this beautiful Shadow it's basically you create more contrast on your lips that's very modern right now contrast on the lips the color that I chose today I mean no wonder I always use this type of color this is uh oh I thought it's like the all the other colors but no this is super pretty it's a lot lighter than I thought there are new lipsticks from clay Depot if you're in Europe just so you know these are not available yet if you're in the US you could buy these right now I'll make sure to put them in the description another thing that I believe it's very modern is a very comfortable very thin lipstick whether you are creating the very thin lipstick from application or the formula of your lipstick is already very thin doesn't matter I think that the very thick formulas that make your lips very dry and then they crack throughout the day it belongs to the Past now it's all about comfortable sort of sheer but still having color this is a very modern lip maybe even a little bit more glossy I will add this gloss this is gorgeous also from clay Depot brand new they just came out with these and it has a little bit of that golden color to it and I'm going to take it with my finger only on the center of the lip yes I believe that highlighter is definitely having a comeback now but 2022 was all about Kareem highlighters personally I think that powder highlighters are still not going to be my favorite I mean I love them I use them I love the the new one from rare Beauties very pretty but I still prefer and I still think that the cream highlighter is a lot more modern looking pictures or real life and by far the queen of highlighter and everything's shiny and glamorous is Charlotte Tilbury and I love love love love this product as you can see I have that beautiful glow from this product because I've applied this under my foundation and I told you already that this Foundation is so beautiful and hydrating so if this is enough for you I think this is super pretty if you want to go just a little bit stronger I suggest you this so I've applied it right here and then I take it with the fingers because I want to get a very very natural look so I press it into the skin give it the very wet look and then you want to apply highlighter I mean I I like to apply highlighter right here you don't have to then highlighter on the bridge of the nose never on the tip for me last but not least bronzer and someone commented in my last video that it's ridiculous how expensive this bronzer is that they could buy like five regular ones so I want you to know this is a refill this is not the original bronzer like the original packaging the original packaging is 200 Euros and that I agree with you you don't have to buy that one unless you actually wear that as a bag but the refill is fine this is I've talked about this bronzer so many times I am even a little bit like I bought this myself the brand Valentino never sends me anything not that there's a problem with that but you just want to emphasize how much I love this bronzer so you can tell that this is not matte and it's all about luminous bronzer it's all about applying products that mimic sort of the natural skin texture and I'm gonna do a touch of bronzer with this Misa zero one brush sides of the forehead now if you look at the skin even here it's not fully Mad right there's not even one place except under my eyes where the skin is fully matte and I think it's all about that it's all about creating a very very natural looking skin natural looking because we know the amount of products that
