when it comes to iconic restaurants in New York City Peter Luger Steakhouse here in Williamsburg Brooklyn is definitely one that comes to mind but recently there has been some debate over whether it can still be considered one of the best steaks in Brooklyn so we are going to try it for ourselves to find out whether it's truly a classic or if it's past its prime [Music] thank you hi editor will jumping in quick this was the most uncomfortable we felt filming yet they seated us upstairs which was packed but extremely quiet so we really didn't film a lot but a few people have already asked us about this video so I am just going to tell you how it went the outside has a beautiful historic charm you walk in past the bar and check in at the counter we waited about 15 minutes before we were seated and I've heard this is actually very common I believe it's to give you a chance to buy a drink at the bar while you're waiting but we spent the time entertaining ourselves by reading their awards that line the walls here is the menu with prices as of February 2023 some things to note the burger is only available until 4 pm and there is a five dollar charge if you'd like to split a single portion for two people first they brought us their bread and famous sauce the bread was decent but the sauce really pluses everything the sauce to me is kind of like a combination of cocktail sauce and A1 and is surprisingly good then the main course came for sides we got the french fried potatoes for one which are like oversized steak fries and were great actually and Kristen insisted we tried the sliced tomatoes and onions which at 10.95 has to be the most ridiculous and overpriced thing I have ever ordered steak for two which came out perfectly cooked and sizzling porterhouse [Music] the steak for two is basically the same thing as the steak for one but with a few pieces of filet mignon even though seventy dollars for three pieces of filet is pretty brutal this might be the best piece of steak I've ever had in my entire life the sirloin was excellent as well but we made the mistake of ordering it medium when literally everyone else we could see ordered it medium rare so I'm just gonna blame us for the sirloin not being even better for dessert we were told we had to get the Holy Cow ice cream sundae all of their desserts come with their homemade whipped cream that they call schlag which was awesome and very very plentiful is so we actually filmed this rant about our experience after we left and I think we were a little bit too harsh on it in the moment it's been a few days now and we've had more time to gather our thoughts first I just want to say that I really wanted to love this restaurant as a New Yorker I hate when good restaurants are dragged on social media for seemingly insignificant reasons but I can completely understand why people from the city tend to avoid this restaurant it's pretty clear we are not the Target demographic and that's totally fine but despite our meal being pretty good the actual experience was bad enough to not want to make us recommend it to anyone a lot of people complain about the food and the prices we thought everything we ate was fantastic except maybe the tomatoes and onions but what do we really expect our issues were all with the staff and management our waiter was great but there were two girls sitting behind us who got a severely undercooked steak and when they brought it to the attention of their waiter he told them that they were wrong it was cooked correctly and unless they wanted to pay for a new one this was what they were going to get after a while of back and forth our waiter finally intervened and handled it for them most people know about Peter Luger's Infamous cash only policy and we definitely did I had one of those Visa debit cards lying around that I wanted to pay with but I was so nervous about it that I luckily took cash out at the last minute they say they take debit cards by the way so I thought this would be totally fine but it turned into a whole thing I asked our waiter and he said we had to go downstairs to do it at the front desk the girl working at the front desk was just terrible she said no before even listening to our waiter and made a whole big thing literally ridiculing us in front of the entire restaurant for not knowing that they were cash only we tried to convince her it was a debit card and to try it anyway which she said she did but we were standing right there and she clearly didn't actually try it and said that it was a credit card and it wasn't gonna work meanwhile it literally says debit right on it I know people who defend them say oh it's no big deal just take cash out how hard is that but come on you can pay for literally anything from a two dollar coffee to a meal at 11 Madison Park with a credit card so why should Peter lugers be so special not to mention I was literally trying to pay with the debit card you'd think since you're going to a high-end restaurant that they would really go above and beyond for their customers but that is just clearly not the case if you've heard all the hype and really want to try it be prepared to spend a lot obviously but I personally don't think you'll be disappointed with the food just make sure you're very much by the book and you'll probably have a pretty good experience if you've heard all the negative reviews and that's the side of Peter lugers that you'd like to see I'd highly recommend trying to pay with a credit card and watching the chaos unfold around you sorry to be negative we always try to be positive on this channel but I just think the management that Peter lugars needs to come down off their high horse a bit and get with the times I know this was a weird video but hopefully you guys enjoy it we will see you in the next one foreign [Music]
