Nintendo has a lot of different franchises series and spin-offs but arguably none of them are in as weird of a position as Mario Maker originally created on the Nintendo Wii U Mario Maker was destined to fail right I mean it was a level Creator on a console no one bought well marrying those two weird ideas together actually ended up working really well as Super Mario Maker was a breakout success on Nintendo's dying console after getting a subcar port to the 3DS how do you follow up a level editor well Nintendo found out how with Super Mario Maker 2. they added almost everything you could possibly think of new themes new game Styles new items they added stuff that never even existed in the first place into Mario Maker 2 and capped it all off by adding in a world maker allowing players to make their own games stringing their levels together to create your own cohesive Mario title so then how would Nintendo follow that up in this video we're going to talk about a potential Mario Maker 3 or if Nintendo takes the maker fan franchise in a different direction entirely we're going to talk about when this potential next game could come out what we'd like to see in it and so much more so strap in because this video is going to get crazy this is the future of Mario maker so the problem with following up a level editor is that there's only so much you can do of course Nintendo can just add in new stuff I mean there's plenty of items that weren't in Super Mario Maker one or two that already exist within the Mario universe that we'd love to see added Nintendo could add in tons of new power ups like the acorn the penguin suit or interactables like baby Yoshi's or more technically they could just do that they could even add this brand new item called the Subscribe button which basically would just be a power up to where when you hit the Subscribe button because the majority of our viewers aren't subscribed you in return get the power up of awesome Nintendo videos sent to your sub box every week and you make me happy so if you hit it that would be awesome there's also tons of potential ideas that have never existed in Mario before which is totally something they can add now as they've been doing that with Mario Maker 2. first of all the entire Super Mario 3D World style didn't already exist at least in the second dimension which is obviously how it's played here but there's even stuff like the Koopa Troopa car stuff that just never quite existed before and Nintendo added it in and is kind of now beloved within the Mario Maker community so yeah Nintendo definitely could just make a Mario Maker 3. add in a bunch new stuff and call it a day but I don't think they're gonna do that because they already essentially did that that's basically what Mario Maker 2 is if they just continue to make sequels to Mario maker and add in new stuff it'll eventually just get boring I mean the stuff they could add in now is cool but I can't think of anything that would change the game and be as influential as stuff like slopes or putting your levels on a world map wasn't Super Mario Maker 2 which is why I want to bring up the idea of a Super Mario 3D maker now I know what you're thinking making 3D Mario levels and we'll get to that but first let's look at the idea of just adding in 3D Mario styles to Mario maker I mean we did get that with Super Mario 3D World but that kind of makes sense because 3D world is a very linear version of a 3D Mario game in fact many people don't like 3D world because they find it too similar to the 2D Mario games that we've gotten too often in the past I'm the biggest 3D World Fan there is and even I can admit they're similar to 2D Mario games I don't think that's a bad thing in fact that's why I like 3D World you don't have to explore to find the platforming the platforming is right there right in front of you all the time but elements like the timer in the top right corner the fact that every level ends in a flagpole the fact that you never really have to question where you're going you just go to the right or you know whatever Direction the level prompts you those types of things are kind of why 3D World works so well in the Mario Maker format and that's why it wasn't too surprising to see it added in but if Nintendo were to add in different art styles for other 3D Mario games and allow us to get really creative here that would be insane imagine playing a 2d Mario level themed after Galaxy you run over and then spin jump up into a launch star which you then shake the remote and it launches you all the way to another part of the level or maybe as you're committing to tight platforming jumps you have to use the gyro or the right analog stick to throw precise Star Bits this would allow for so many new levels to be added because Nintendo could take the gimmicks that made 3D Mario levels so unique and add them in given that by and large besides changing a power up here and there and obviously the visual style changing between the core Mario levels now doesn't really change too much like if I'm playing in Super Mario World or Super Mario Bros 1 it again it changes some small mechanics but overall it still feels like you're playing a 2d Mario game even though these levels would be in 2D they could feel completely different from anything we've ever experienced before imagine jetpacking around with flood growing out and then jumping on Cappy or again performing spin jumps like in Mario Galaxy this could be so crazy so cool and would be incredible to see added it would make a third Mario Maker actually feel like a worthy sequel but a 3D version of Mario Maker now that would be something truly unique and truly special just gonna be honest of course it'll be a little janky a bunch of the levels will be super weird just you know amalgamations of different blocks everywhere but to be fair we kind of have that already but just in 2D I think currently in Mario Maker you could say maybe I don't know maybe I'm being generous here but maybe 80 of the levels are utter trash but then 20 of them are actually really good genuinely fun levels and those are the ones most people play because they're the ones that get most upvoted and blah blah in a 3D Mario Maker it would be harder to make interesting levels sure because you're dealing with an extra Dimension there so maybe it's 90 to 95 percent of the levels are terrible and then only five or ten percent of them are good but still those are gonna be the levels that are uploaded the most they're going to be the ones that most people play even if there's only five percent of the levels that's still thousands and thousands and thousands of unique custom 3D Mario levels to play through that could either harness Mario's moveset from Super Mario 64. Sunshine Galaxy Odyssey or just keep the most basic 3D Mario move style which in my opinion is 3D World it doesn't really matter because just adding in this extra Dimension would mean so much to so many people because not only would we be able to make cool 3D Mario platforming challenges but we could make sandbox open world levels within this hypothetical tool set yeah this would be something really neat and something I would love to see but will Nintendo ever make that quite possibly not again giving people the ability to make their own three-dimensional levels just seems so much more involved in depth and difficult to pull off rather than just giving us the keys to the castle in the 2D style because the 2D style is well just a lot simpler you're dealing with one entire less Dimension that's why I think it's very possible that we don't see another Mario maker at least for a while maybe you give Nintendo a couple of systems to just not you know release a Mario Maker they go off make their own new 2D Marios they're super crazy and creative and everyone loves them and instead the maker title is passed on to another franchise [Music] I've made a bunch of different concept trailers of franchises that I'd love to see get the maker treatment I'll shout out a couple of my favorite now I think Kirby would definitely be very interesting it's another 2D platformer but it's just a whole nother plethora of stuff to mess with different types of enemies different types of assets different art styles different controls everything would be a little bit different and still interesting enough to where some great levels could be made but that's not as creative as we could get here let's talk about now the Legend of Zelda we kind of got a 2d Zelda maker within the lynx Awakening remake as you could go make your own dungeons except not really you couldn't actually make your own dungeon rooms you could take the preset rooms that Nintendo has already made and then organize them in a different layout which in my opinion is a complete waste of time it doesn't add anything to the game it would be the same thing as if I don't know you played new Super Mario Bros U but then the levels were slightly out of order like it's still the same game you're just playing it in a different you know in a different order it's just not it's not like a true creative process which hopefully we would get with a Zelda maker where you can make your own Overworld make your own dungeons place the enemies and terrain down wherever you want you can place items down Place NPCs that can sell you different items you can choose how much they would charge or what items they would sell a 2d Zelda maker would be insane and then being able to translate that into the different art styles like the original NES art style and then hop to 16-bit with the SNES and A Link to the Past then we could jump all the way up to the 3DS with A Link Between Worlds and then finally the insanely realistic kind of toy box diorama Parallax tilt shift aesthetic that we got with the lynx Awakening remake being able to have all those art styles at our disposal would be insane and people would create massive massive campaigns that would be so much fun to play same thing goes with Pokemon oh man a Pokemon maker would be wild in this concept trailer I made I envisioned it being so you could place down you know tall grass and then when you shake the tall grass like how you know how when you shake different Assets in Mario Maker you get to either you know change them a little bit or put stuff inside them whatever when you shake the Tall Grass you place down it opens up a sub menu which will allow you to choose any Pokemon that you want to inhibit tall grass that will give the player or I guess in this case the developer quote-unquote I'm using air quotes there you can't really tell that would give the developer the ability to choose which Pokemon people have at which point in their journey of course making a whole Pokemon region or city or root or whatever would be a lot more involved than just a 2d Mario level but the potential here is what really gets me excited the fact that it's that much more involved means that the potential payoff could be so much greater it's something I would absolutely love to see and something that I don't think we're ever gonna get yeah if we Reign back in the hype in the wild speculation here and just talk about what really could happen I think Nintendo has two realistic paths here Nintendo either abandons the Mario Maker franchise at least for now and goes back to making their own 2D Marios without having the Restriction of a level editor or alternatively they continued down the path they're currently on of just making sequels to Mario Maker that are good and crazy and adding new stuff but nothing Paradigm shifting like a Legend of Zelda maker would be or a Pokemon maker would be or a 3D Mario Maker would be because to be honest those ideas just seem a little bit too ambitious in my opinion but let me know down in the comments below if you agree or disagree if you enjoyed this video hit the like button subscribe if
