What is it like to be a Peace Corps Volunteer? Day and the Life Peace Corps Guatemala

[Music] this is my training site it has a lot of mountainous areas and beautiful scenery for three months in the peace corps we have our training on culture language technical things that we'll be doing in our different fields field-based training which is where you go into the field and you meet with another volunteer that's currently in the field and see what they do and how they're doing their job [Music] in this practicum we did a charla that we trained the teachers so it's in the format of train the trainer [Music] what this woman is doing in this frame is sewing together a peel which is the shirt that she is wearing the next woman is grinding up some coffee [Music] and lastly this is what a mayan ceremony looks like they'll put candles all around they'll be chunks of chocolate sugar and alcohol thrown all in there and they'll set it on fire so in my sight right when i got there there was a month-long feria which is a fair celebrating the patron saint [Music] so they have convites which is where they dance in suits such as such as those shown they have amusement park rides fireworks so right now carry the patron saint into the church they just have a lot of fun let's get into some activities that i've done in my site this is just a different tool to explain assets they hate us [Applause] [Music] hey so these are made out of colorful sawdust that they put together and then the people come with symbol of christ and they walk through those alphabets okay [Music] here i have more nutrition charlas that i'm working on um i've been working on it in a sustainable format so i train my teachers how to do these trials and answer any questions that they have and then they go and teach their students in a way that best fits the needs of their audience [Music] um uh [Music] [Music] my [Music] foreign [Music] i also had the opportunity to work with middle schoolers i usually work with elementary school teachers and elementary school students to teach these middle schoolers about sti prevention i'll be going into a day in the life of what it's like to be in my sight so i hope you enjoyed [Music] area that i was [Music] foreign [Music] okay so today i'm going to show you around where i live so there's a lot of stray dogs it's kind of cool because sometimes they just let them walk around inside buildings and um just do whatever you want this is one of the white churches now let's go over here to another church [Music] so here is a church and they keep this little area smoking all the time [Music] wow [Music] so [Music] i'm at one of the bus stops for one of my schools and here [Music] [Music] is [Music] [Music] go go [Music] today i am at one of my schools and we're going to review how the kitchen looks and estoy aqui coming [Music] and so we're going to go to the school and check out what the kitchen looks like so you'll get to see that process today [Music] okay so today we have this salusi tude application which is a budget for a project that we're doing okay so this is what the direction looks like it's um like the principal's office but for this school the principal is also one of the teachers let's see what the outside looks like so there's classrooms all around as you can see each classroom houses a different grade and then they have this basketball court [Applause] that's why we're doing a reminder i want you to be happier when the morning comes [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] is [Music] is i want you to be happier i want you to be happier
