What if COLUMBO and DOCTOR WHO had a crossover?

what if Columbo and Doctor Who had a crossover why would they do this how could it happen let's find out Columbo was a homicide detective his crime drama television series ran from 1968 to 1978 there were also additional episodes that aired from 1989 to 2003 the doctor was an alien from the planet galif Fray who explored the universe in a time traveling spaceship His science fiction television series ran from 1963 to 1989 there have been additional episodes from 2005 to the present why would there be a crossover Columbo was an American show and Doctor Who was British of course nothing like this ever happened it was probably very unlikely that the studios would have had an international collaboration way back in the 1960s or 7s on the other hand I think Columbo and Doctor Who compliment each other very well Wikipedia describes Columbo as a shrewd but inelegant Blue Collar detective whose trademarks include his shambling manner an off-putting Relentless investigative approach whenever anyone asked what his first name was he jokingly said Lieutenant similarly the doctor never revealed his personal name for reasons that I'll talk about in just a moment I think the fourth doctor would be the perfect incarnation for this hypothetical crossover he overlapped with Columbo from 1974 to 1978 and he's generally regarded as one of the most recognizable and popular versions of the doctor Wikipedia describes him as a Whimsical and sometimes brooding individual whose enormous personal warmth is at times tempered by his capacity for righteous anger Columbo was known for his humble raincoat and the fourth doctor was known for his long scarf and Bohemian style Columbo drove a distinctive vehicle it was a French 1959 pjo 403 Cabriolet the doctor traveled through time and space in a ship called the Tardis Columbo had a basset hound named dog the doctor had K9 a robot dog from the year 5000 Columbo visited London in his 1972 episode dagger of the mind this was during the third doctor's Exile on Earth so it could have worked as a setting if so our story would have taken place after the Doctor Who serial the time monster from June 1972 it would also be right before the three doctors which aired in December 1972 this might have been the closest physically that production of the two shows ever was only certain location shots were actually filmed in Britain but Columbo actor Peter Faulk definitely visited England could have been an interesting Dynamic since the third doctor was so formal and Polished and Columbo was a contrast for that for my concept though I wanted to use the fourth doctor it would have to have been after 1974's robot to give him some time to recover from regeneration but having one of his traditional companions would just complicate things in my opinion I think all of the story time would best be served by Columbo the doctor and the villain anyone else would be a distraction and take time away from the stars of the episode the only time the fourth doctor did not have a companion would be during the serial The Deadly Assassin that AED in November 1976 so our story would have to be after that but before he meets Leela in January 1977's the face of evil so correspondingly for Columbo this would be between old-fashioned murder which aired in November 1976 and the byebye sky high IQ murder case from May 1977 the story would have to take place in Columbo's Journey jurisdiction because it would be much more plausible for the doctor to visit California than for Columbo to make a second trip to the UK I looked on Wikipedia to see if anything significant happened in Los Angeles in December 1976 sure enough there was something that would have attracted their attention the TV show The $6 million man was filming an episode called Carnival of spies while moving a mannequin in the carnival its arm broke off and it was discovered to be a real corpse the body belonged to a bank robber named Elmer mcer who died in Oklahoma in 1911 with no family since the body was unclaimed and The Undertaker wanted to get paid he embalmed mcer and charged people a nickel to see him the body was on display for decades transferred to various owners and eventually ended up hanging in a fun house at the Pike an amusement Zone in Long Beach California incidentally the pike was previously used as a shooting location for the 1975 Columbo episode identity crisis this kind of event is exactly the sort of bizarre thing that the doctor would investigate since Columbo was a homicide detective it's conceivable to think that he could have been on the scene as well since the doctor was involved there would have to be some alien involvement some sort of bigger conspiracy here I made some art for this hypothetical crossover Columbo had a lot of Pulp style posters to promote his episodes so I wanted to come up with something similar what you see here is a mockup I did of a poster in procreate I wanted to get the fonts right to make it look authentic for the period I also put the Production Studio logos there for the BBC and Universal the title I came up with for the episode was this old man it has three meanings Columbo used to Whistle the song This old man it was a trademark mannerism M and sort of an unofficial theme song for him the fourth doctor was supposed to be over 700 years old so there's an old man and then the other old man would have been the embalmed corpse found at the carnival the tagline on the poster is the only Clues were a Jelly Baby and a bowl of chili the fourth doctor he was always eating jelly babies and offering them to people Columbo would frequently order a bowl of chili to eat while working on a case in the background I had drops of something it could have been from a crime scene which is what it looks like but I like to think they were probably just chili stains I put these leaning rectangles in the background which Echo the shape of the Taris and give a sense of movement I opted to just Trace the general lines for the characters from some screenshots and then I extended them beyond what was in the camera frame and added some cross-hatching since this is only going to be done for my own amusement and since my research had taken up so much time I decided to move on to other projects instead of spending more time studying the actor's likenesses well that's all for my
