recently I had a question how often does the NFL team crowned the regular season Champion win it all having the top record in the regular season obviously doesn't automatically win you the Super Bowl but it does matter considering the guarantee of a bye week in the first round of the playoffs and home field advantage until the Super Bowl and now especially with seven teams in each conference making the playoffs the one seed is the only team that gets a bye week but quite often these teams don't win at all [Music] [Applause] who has it down at the charger 32 the Patriots have it in today's video we will take a look at how every regular season Champion since 2000 has done in the playoffs right after a word from today's sponsor sea geek cgeek takes tickets from all across the web and puts them into one area making buying simple they have everything from football baseball basketball concerts festivals or more sigi rates every ticket from 0 to 10 to make sure that you're getting a good 2000 with plenty of Stack teams in the regular season the Tennessee Titans came out on top after losing the previous year's Super Bowl and heartbreaking fashion this team matched their prior season's record 13-3 this included two statement shutouts to end the regular season this team was highlighted by their defense which was nasty with the likes of chiffon curse and Samari roll and they ranked second only behind the 2000 Ravens offensively Steve McNair got the job done under center with the help of All-Pro running back Eddie George however in the playoffs in a game that only saw opposing quarterback trenddale for a complete five total passes the 2000 Ravens absolutely stifled the Titans highlighted by this blocked field goal return for a touchdown and with that the Titans were a one and done 2001 in an ERA with ruthlessly tough defenses no one could quite figure out how to stop the St Louis Rams who turned every game they played into a track meet Kurt Warner was slinging it to Isaac Bruce and Tori Holt and took home MVP and no one could slow down Marshall Faulk who put up another 2 000 yards in total offense and he took second in the MVP race to his own teammate but this offense wasn't new the huge Improvement in this team was by their defense who went from dead last and points aloud the previous year to seventh in 2001. in the playoffs they dropped a 45 bomb versus Green Bay then held on versus the mcnabblet Eagles But ultimately their offense stalled in the Super Bowl and despite tying it up with two touchdowns in the fourth they lost to the Patriots 2002 a three-way tie in the NFC resulted in the Eagles taking the crown due to tiebreaker rules this team was stacked top to bottom the coaching staff alone had many future NFL head coaches offensively they were a top five unit with a well-balanced run and pass attack defensively they were scary with pro bowlers everywhere highlighted by All Pro Brian Dawkins team struggled to score on them and they made players fumble more than anybody in the playoffs they held the Falcons to only two field goals as they went on to win in the divisional but it all ended once they played the Bucks in the NFC Championship who possessed an even better defense than them and with this Pick 6 by Ronde Barber the Eagles fate was sealed 2003 Tom Brady was no longer the surprise rookie who led his team on a Cinderella run he was in his third year as the starter leading the Juggernaut that was the Patriots offensively Tom Brady put up modest numbers and the real backbone of this team was their tenacious defense who ranked number one in points aloud passing touchdowns allowed and they forced the most interceptions in the league going into the playoffs the Patriots were riding an 11-game win streak that featured three shutouts in the divisional round they grinded out a close one versus the Titans then put the mani-led Colts in check and top it off the Patriots came out Victorious with another Super Bowl winning field goal looks good 2004 seemingly out of nowhere the Pittsburgh Steelers went on a legendary run after going 6-10 in 2003 they popped off an incredible 15-1 regular season in 2004. this included going 13-0 with rookie Big Bend like many before this the defense was at the top of the league ranking first in multiple categories and they possessed pro bowlers in all three levels of the defense with that unit being so strong the Steelers backfilled led by Jerome Bettis and Deuce Staley pummeled opponents their Russian offense ranked first in attempts and second in yards in the playoffs after a scary close call versus the Jets that went into overtime Jeff Reed hit a field goal to win but they ended up getting their butts whooped the following week by a much more experienced Patriots Squad in the AFC Championship this was a brutal one that saw the Patriots up three touchdowns in the fourth but at the very least the Steelers knew that they were a contender for the foreseeable future 2005 Peyton Manning was well into his Prime and with the likes of edger and James Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne this offense ranked second in the league in scoring but like I mentioned earlier about the Rams this was not new they had been Elite for years where this team really found their groove was defensively going from 19th to second in points loud they were highlighted by guys like Cato June Bob Sanders and Dwight Freeney after a 13-0 start the Colts finished 14-2 and looked to bring Peyton his first Super Bowl title however in the playoffs they were tested right away Pittsburgh's defense was ruthless ultimately the Colts had to settle for a field goal attempt to tie it and they missed not even close 2006 the Chargers took the regular season throne with a 14-2 record nobody had any answers when it came to stopping running back LaDainian Tomlinson who put up the most insane running back season possibly of all time he had over 1800 yards and 28 rushing touchdowns which is still a record add to that 56 catches and another 500 yards and three receiving touchdowns oh yeah Andy threw two touchdowns that year overall with LT leading the way and a young Philip Rivers under Center the Chargers possessed the top offense in the NFL and defensively they ranked seventh in points allowed with guys like Quentin Jammer and Sean Merriman but right away they were taken out by who else the Patriots in the divisional round this was highlighted by that brutal interception then Bumble sequence that kept the Patriots alive with six minutes to go it was a true Heartbreaker 2007 among all those dominant Patriots teams in the 2000s this was their God Squad they went 16-0 and they won those games by an average of 20 points Brady put together a 50 touchdown campaign with the comeback season of a lifetime for Randy Moss who caught 23 of those touchdowns and their defense was amazing possessing pro bowlers in all three levels of the defense and ranking fourth in points aloud but of course we all know what happened in the playoffs they managed to reach the Super Bowl only for the Giants to upset them in dramatic fashion man there's been some good Super Bowls 2008 the Titans re-emerge at the top again with Jeff Fisher in charge and this time journeyman Carrie Collins was in a career Renaissance making his first Pro Bowl in 13 years I don't know another guy who went that long between Pro Bowls the real bread and butter of this offense was their deadly combo of Chris Johnson and lendell white out of the backfield a classic thunder and lightning running back Duo but what made this team great was how stingy their defense was led by all Pros Cortland Finnegan and Albert Haynesworth they only allowed 14 points a game but like the 06 Chargers the 08 Titans were stumped in their opening playoff game in an ugly 13-10 loss the Ravens led by rookie Joe Flacco only put up 211 yards and nine first downs but turnovers ultimately cost the Titans and who was the guy that picked off Carrie Collins the former Titan himself Samari roll which just so happened to be the last interception of his career 2009 with a few years removed from their Super Bowl title the Colts were back on top with a 14-0 start to the season Manning put together another MVP performance passing to his favorite targets at the time Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark defensively Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney LED one of the scariest pass rushes in the league and overall this team looked destined to reach their second Super Bowl in the playoffs they shut down the Ravens then after getting down early rallied back to beat the Jets in the AFC Championship and in the Super Bowl they faced off against the other side's Juggernog the Saints who had started the year out 13-0 themselves ultimately a gutsy onside kick by the Saints to start the second half and they pick six by Tracy Porter sealed the game the Colts would walk away disappointed 2010 the Patriots are back with a somewhat new looking offense this squad saw some new faces offensively including the duo of young tight ends Rob Gronkowski and the late Aaron Hernandez once again they topped the league and points scored with ridiculous efficiency numbers Brady through 36 touchdowns to only four interceptions and it wouldn't be a Bill Belichick LED Squad without that top 10 defense as well new faces Gerard Mayo Patrick Chung and Devin McCourty led the way for this unit but in the playoffs like they had done to a few teams earlier in this video the Patriots were upsetted in the divisional round not only were they beaten at home but they lost to rookie Mark Sanchez it was also the Revenge game for LaDainian Tomlinson for that 2006 loss 2011 it was official Aaron Rodgers was incredible after leading Green Bay to a Super Bowl win the previous year the 2011 Squad seemed destined to repeat after starting the year 13-0 A-Rod put up 45 touchdowns to only six interceptions taking home MVP and as of today this offense sits fourth all time in points per game at 35 with an average defense this offense was the best that we had seen since the 2007 Patriots Aaron Rodgers top targets were Jordy Nelson gray Jennings Andrew Michael Finley but in the playoffs the Packers got their butts whooped by the Giants losing by 17 at home to Eli Manning and Company after so much joy and hope for the future from the previous year's Super Bowl this was the beginning of a decade-long frustration for Packers fans in the playoffs 2012 the Falcons and Broncos possessed the same record however the Falcons did beat the Broncos in the regular season so they took the throne Matt Ryan had come into his own as a top 10 quarterback in the league earning his second Pro Bowl nod throwing to guys like young Julio Jones old man Tony Gonzalez and Roddy White this offense as a whole ranked seventh in scoring and their defense was a beast of a unit ranking top five in many categories including points allowed and turnovers forced Thomas the cowd William Moore and Asante Samuel combined for 15 interceptions in the playoffs this divisional game's ending was wild the Falcons were on upset alert down by one and with 25 seconds to go Matt Ryan made two clutch passes downfield to set up the game-wing field goal but then the following week after getting up by 10 on the 49ers they would blow that lead and lose man Matt Ryan has had some brutal defeats in his career 2013 because of being in separate conferences and no head-to-head matchup in the regular season the Broncos and Seahawks shared the regular season crowned together which was actually perfect because the Broncos possessed the greatest offense possibly in NFL history and the Seahawks had one of the best defenses of all time Manning's video game-like numbers saw four different pass catchers with 10 or more receiving touchdowns that is absurd I don't see that happening again for a long time the Seahawks legion of boom was as intimidating to play against as any modern defense they made you pay for every mistake they forced more turnovers than anybody and allowed less yards than all the other teams poetically these two teams won out and played in the Super Bowl and if there's ever been a game that felt like it was over after the first play it was this one it's snapped over the head of Peyton Manning a flag is gone and the ball's out of the back of the end zone such a bizarre way to start a game and the Seahawks went on to blow out the Broncos 43-8 2014 with five teams finishing 12-4 tiebreakers came down to the Patriots and the Seahawks the Seahawks defensively were still out of this world ranking first in many categories and their offense led by Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch possessed the best Rush attack in the NFL the Patriots were built like every great Belichick Squad he'd fished an offense that didn't turn over the ball led by Tom Brady and his random cast of weapons outside of Gronk and Edelman their defense was again a top 10 unit and at this point their biggest Advantage was their playoff experience and second half adjustments like the previous year both of these squads met in the Super Bowl but unlike that blowout this was actually a good game the Seahawks looked destined to win up by 10 in the fourth but the Patriots came storming back and ultimately we all know how this one ended 2015 after years of up and down play Cam Newton broke out as a superstar in Carolina we had seen amazing quarterback Seasons but nothing quite like this with a 13-0 star cam was mostly unbeatable through the air he had 35 touchdowns to 10 interceptions and then he tacked on another 10 touchdowns on the ground overall this offense leather league in points and cam won MVP to add to that their defense was Stout with the likes of Luke Kuechly and Josh Norman they forced more turnovers than anybody in the playoffs the Panthers bested the Seahawks preventing them from reaching their third Super Bowl in a row and then they went on to dominate the Cardinals in the NFC Championship only to face off first the Broncos who got the best of them in the Super Bowl 2016 shockingly a team that we hadn't seen to this point took the regular season crown just kidding the Patriots did it again among all their solid defenses throughout the decade this was the best that they had had in quite some time ranking first in points aloud Brady as always was solid and this was the surprising year that legera blunt broke out with a massive 18 touchdown season on the ground in the playoffs they walked right over the Texans and Steelers making yet another Super Bowl then in that game it seemed all but over ever seen Brady throw that pick six and the Patriots seeing themselves down 28-3 but the football Gods shine down on this game either for the love of Tom Brady or their disgust for Matt Ryan and the Patriots stormed all the way back to win in improbable fashion I got a question for all you watching which is worse blowing a 28-3 lead in the Super Bowl or the Russell Wilson goal line interception let me know in the comments 2017 the Eagles and Patriots shared the honor as the League's top teams in the regular season like usual the Patriots out side of Gronk and Brady was mostly a new cast of characters and both units ranked out in the top five for the Eagles coming off a 7-9 season the year before Wenz had gone berserk their offense ranked first in touchdown passes and third overall and their defense was led by guys like Malcolm Jenkins and Fletcher Cox they were a top five unit and had the best Rush defense in the NFL the unfortunate part as it appeared at the time was that Carson Wentz got injured at the end of the regular season leaving the fate of their offense in the hands of backup Nick Foles following the trend that we saw in 2013 and 2014 both teams ended up in the Super Bowl and this game was wild it became the highest scoring Super Bowl of all time Brady threw over 500 yards Nick Foles himself through for 370 and caught that iconic touchdown pass and ultimately the Eagles came out the victors 2018 coming down to tiebreakers the Saints took the regular season Crown their offense led by veteran Drew Brees had some insane performances this included putting up over 40 points on six separate occasions Drew Brees Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas all had excellent Seasons as this offense ranked third in scoring their defense was pretty much average but they did possess Some solid players like Demario Davis and Cameron Jordan in the playoffs the Saints prevented Nick Foles and the Eagles for making another run and then in the NFC championship in a game that saw a crazy fourth quarter is all remembered for one play The Mist pass interference it was a place so controversial that it changed the NFL rule book the following year the saints went on to lose to the Rams in overtime 2019 is Lamar going to be good in the NFL hell yeah he is 36 passing touchdowns and 1200 rushing yards highlighted an MBP campaign for the NFL's most electrifying Talent overall this offense seemed impossible to stop with their rpo-based pistol attack and their defense was tenacious with playmakers all over the secondary this raven Squad ended the regular season on a 12-game win streak but in the playoffs their offense would be shut down by the Titans who pummeled the Ravens 28-12 it was all highlighted by that Derrick Henry stiff arm honoral Thomas 2020 after taking the league by storm a couple Seasons prior the standards for passing offense had been set by Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs who in 2020 did what they did best they led the league in yards with stars Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelsey and they had enough Playmakers defensively to make other offenses pay coming off their Super Bowl win the previous year this Chiefs team looked destined to repeat in the playoffs after a scared him at Holmes who left the game early they beat Cleveland then with back took charge against the bills to advance to the Super Bowl for the second straight year but unfortunately for them the Bucks led by Tom Brady came to play In All Phases and they dominated the Chiefs it wasn't even close Mahomes finished with a 52 passer rating and no touchdowns and finally 2021 the Packers went on to win their regular season Crown via tiebreaker they had been sold for years to this point under Matt LaFleur and Aaron Rodgers took home a second MVP in a row it was truly a treat to watch him and Devonte Adams go to work I would argue that they were the best quarterback receiver combo the league had seen in quite some time compared to some of the other teams in this video the 2021 Packers were nothing special outside of that Rogers Adams combo they were efficient offensively and slightly above average defensively unfortunately in the playoffs their first game saw them suffer a brutal defeat to the 49ers highlighted by this play engine it's blocked up into the air and spinning inside the 10. picked up and a touchdown so overall I covered 22 years of regular season champions in this video and amongst those 22 years only five of them ended up winning it all three of those were from the years where two tiebreaker teams faced off in the Super Bowl ultimately as the top team you still got to go out and win three tough games in a row in the playoffs which is a lot to ask for anybody as for 2022 it appears that the Eagles Bar in a collapse will be the quote unquote regular season Champs they have been amazing all year but do they have what it takes to win it all only time will tell around the edge and bends it back down [Applause] [Music] Philadelphia second of the night for Hertz [Music]
