hello once again it's me negative legend you're licensed card game twink it even says so right here I got a license just [Music] prior to 2008 Spin Master the company people think made beyblade but actually didn't was given concept art for these weird toys they were supposed to be simple transforming marbles based on popular characters and creatures the designs were simplistic and had to be open to mechanically then spin masters stopped and thought we can do better and so they began production of what we know today as bakugan the small transforming marbles activated by a magnet placed inside of it complete with a cartoon that aired on Cartoon Network in teletoon bakugan is the franchise that really made Spin Master the company that it is today and when I saw advertisements for the show I was immediately hooked now some of you may be wondering why I'm doing this video again when I've already done this video like two years ago well that video kind of kicked off this channel into what it is today and it really sucks I mean that was back when I was still using my avatar and then I realized it's easier to edit videos if I just record myself regardless of how self-conscious I am and it's kind of embarrassing how much stuff I excluded from that video so as a special for this channel I want to do it again and do it right or at least better I could never really do it right now with you guys a lot of you judge me I'm sorry I try my best when I was in middle school I saw advertisements for Bakugan everywhere and I wanted to watch it so bad but my bedtime it was at nine o'clock and for some reason Bakugan decided to air it pretty late in the night and so what I did was I didn't have a TV in my room but my parents had a crappy small TV and they had it on they had it to where I could hide mixing their bed crouching down and hat still have a view of the TV just from far away so I turned it on to that switched it to Bakugan and then watched it from there and stayed up past my bedtime I eventually got caught but I managed to watch the first episode and just like most everyone else my age I thought it was the coolest thing in the world and it was clear I wasn't the only one Bakugan quickly took off from there my friends were collecting Bakugan the teachers were confiscating Bakugan kids were trading Bakugan on the playground it was Bakugan everywhere I looked the thing that made Bakugan so unique was taking the appeal of Pokemon with all the different designs of monsters that you can collect and combining with the transformational aspect of transformers where you have to figure out how to close the Bakugan after it have been opened and they made it pop open via a magnet which by itself is pretty frickin cool the show that air to follow Dan a super cool kid that found a talking Bakugan named Drago together with the rest of their friends they went on an adventure to stop Naga masquerade and hal-g from obtaining the silent core and attaining ultimate power and after I rewatched it for the sake of this video it's hard for me to say that it's aged well it has a diverse in quirky cast of characters along with an interesting overarching story that really drove the plot the world that they created with the Bakugan was unique and catches the interest of the audience but the downside is that the battles weren't very interesting or action-packed or even strategically stimulating I actually started skipping all the battles because they just weren't interesting and didn't add anything to the plot the characters were flat and they didn't really have much of a character arc if any at all I mean Julie is adorable Alice is a cinnamon that we must protect dan is so really cool runo is annoying marucho is annoying but lovable and the shun is a complete jerk with no redeeming qualities thankfully the show didn't stop there next was new vestroia and this is where things got weird fast this is where they introduced Bakugan traps which you literally just slap on to the card there's no rolling required you only got to use one of them in the game and you basically use the never change the attribute of your Bakugan so yeah it's pretty neat gun and alien invaders was where they introduced battle gear where you equip it to your Bakugan make them chunkier and honestly it makes them look pretty freaking cool macdanial surge had a lot this is when they started adding metal to the Bakugan and they feel absolutely amazing they also had baku fusion mechtogan x' the bakugan versus marvel series I have Wolverine right here I'm very proud of having it I'm no I don't I don't know I thought it was I thought it was a ripoff to fake when I first got it and mobile assault and that's not even all of them they released several games the most popular was the first one where you created your own character in brawled against the main characters of the show and I also did an entire playthrough of that so if you want to check that out and you can there was also an MMORPG called bakugan dimensions that never really got the traction it needed to be successful and around this time of 2012 Bakugan was losing a lot of popularity and if you ask me I think there's two reasons why one is that as the show progressed the plot slowly got bigger and bigger and bigger and they tried to get to a more you know address the more space vestroia ultimate power alien kind of aspect to it and if you took a break from Bakugan like a lot of people did and then you jump back and you're like oh god what the hell happened the audience feels like that they missed too much and it's off-putting to them and they don't like that then they think oh now I have to catch up that's going to take time and we don't have YouTube right now at least not a good one for at least illegal streaming services to where we can rip this stuff and so most people just quit they quit watching they said nope I'm good the second is because as the game progressed they added a lot of let's say gimmicks and it kind of bogged the game down not only that but the original game wasn't really that good anyway I mean it was still competing with Pokemon and yugioh and Magic the Gathering and though the game was fun on its own it just wasn't as appealing to a core audience and it was heavily focused on the toys so competitive players said this kind of sucks I'm gonna play a game that's actually mentally stimulating and not covered in gimmicks and not ultra confusing with all the different kinds of Bakugan and the new meta with toys and it's just kind of what so the players stopped playing in Japan a series called Baku Tech was making its rounds and it managed to last for about two years before also falling by the wayside the toys that were created are considered to be there's a fly what is this what's coming on okay the toys that were created are considered to be more interesting in terms of their designs but are japanese-exclusive and the only way to get them is through the secondary market unless you lived in Japan and so Bakugan fell off the grid Spin Master had more important projects to work on patrol and so Bakugan was forgotten but then 2018 came behind the scenes Spin Master had been working on rebooting Bakugan for its tenth anniversary they got TMS entertainment to make a new television series they made new designs for the toys they hired Justin Geary to revamp the whole game and make it to where it can actually compete on a strategic level they even went so far as to fly several youtubers y'alls truly included to Spin Master headquarters in California to give them a sneak peek at all the new product before anyone in the world and if you want to see the vlogs I did of the event there will be a link to the playlist at the end screen the show is back on Cartoon Network and titled bakugan battle planet and they changed basically everything a lot of all the fans have a hard time digesting the show since the world of cartoons has changed so much and spinmaster decided that the show should be directed towards a new audience rather than nostalgic fans and the show is fun i watch it from time to time but I can see why classic fans are a bit upset they touch on the bigger aspect of the world about vestroia and the bakugan homeworld but they don't really do anything with it at least nothing that really captures the imagination of the audience the same way the classic show did and I have no doubt they're trying to keep the show on earth where it could be more relatable and grounded for newer audiences in order to avoid the ostracizing larger-than-life plot the originals strove for and it focuses more on being funny around there than having a serious plot and that's really where I think the show gets a lot of flack it is fun to watch and I'm not saying that because spinmaster flew me out to California twice but the direction of the show is more casual and that's really how you need to approach it when you're watching it the toys changed a bit too now on the Bakugan are slightly larger so that it's easier to identify them and because they didn't design the game to be compatible with the old power levels of the previous toys and because they had copyright issues because certain company behind the scene things change but I won't get into that because it's boring the way you play is different as well you set up a grid of magnetic cores and both players roll their Bakugan at the same time your life is your deck and if you run out of cards and take one extra hit you lose if you want an it more in-depth explanation of how the game is played I made a video about how to play the new version of Bakugan if you ask me I would JIT Emilia game I think it is fun and super easy to pick up and some people will argue that does or doesn't give a certain level of strategic depth to the game I say it does my methyl s whether you think it's adds depth at all it's still really satisfying to roll the toys like actual marbles and see them pop open there are some problems though right now you can only find the toys in Walmart and Target major retailers also game stuff a little bit of Barnes and Nobles but whatever and here's the problem with that we can't play the game at those stores and for some reason the distribution channels haven't really gotten it to where there's a good product that's easily accessible to local game stores where we can actually play the game the Bakugan team I have no doubt fully understands this and they also have to deal with head honcho Big Daddy Spin Master which are probably more focused on selling the toys and getting the profit from the toys the Bakugan team convincing Spin Master and the stockholders about the importance of fostering a good and a healthy game is very freakin difficult I want this series to succeed but it kind of seems like they're going to repeat the same mistakes they did in the past Spin Master let me let me just let me just be a hundred percent clear with you yugioh makes a hunt and makes it makes eleven billion dollars off of the trading card sales alone there is money to be made if you just if you just give the team what they need to make a good game just I guarantee you there is money and there is money please please make good can't please get please to make a distribution channel to local game stores I am but that's everything I have for this video let me know what your favorite Bakugan is if you say Drago yeah basic if you would be super nice can you share the video because ad rates have really sucked recently well also share the video in order to help spread the word of the new bakugan game and series whether or not you like the cartoon or not the game is to legitimately fun and the only way we can really convince spinmaster to foster the game as if they make money off of it so spread the good word I also have a patreon I have a Twitter links in the description I hope you enjoyed this video stay beautiful and keep playing [Music]
