so what does the parable of the talents really mean I'm excited because as I was reading through you know this past week was Matthew 22 through mark 14 and I felt like the Lord showed me some good things about the parable of the talents and I was reading in the New Living Translation and it talks about silver bags or I'll read it to you in a minute but it was so good because I was like we use this parable for talents like our talents our giftings or whatever it can apply that way and sometimes we use it as money because he's literally talking about money and investing it but I think there's something deeper that Jesus is wanting to convey and I've missed it guys until this week so I want to read that to you Matthew 25 because this is Grace Bible studies so I'm just going to read the passage and then I want to comment on it so Matthew 25 verse 14 Jesus is talking about the kingdom of heaven now keep in mind this is like two chapters before he is crucified okay so Jesus is like dude I want to convey some things before I die and get raised again to life I want to convey some things about the kingdom because the kingdom is what he's about to usher in with his death and resurrection so Matthew 25 verse 14 says again the kingdom of heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip okay Jesus is about to go on a long trip he's in heaven right now and he sent the Holy Spirit to be with us right he called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone so Jesus is gone and he's entrusted something to us he gave five bags of silver to one two bags a silver to another and one bag of silver to the last dividing it in proportion to their abilities and then he left on his trip okay so my translation I like this translation it's the New Living Translation but the King James and the NIV and all that it actually says Talent and so a talent is a bag of silver or sometimes it could be a talent of gold in this case they're saying silver which I like the best sober 16 says the servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more have you heard this story before the servant with the two bags also went to work and earn two more but the servant who received the one bag of silver he dug a hole he dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money so after a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money okay so I believe where we are at today is Jesus is on his long trip right now now if you're a believer you have relationship with them but he is a way and he has entrusted the kingdom of God to who he's entrusted the kingdom of God to us his children okay so the servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more today look I've earned you high more I'm going to paraphrase here the second one said hey you gave me two and I earned you two more and then the master said well done good and faithful servant you've been faithful and handling this small amount now I give you many more responsibilities let's celebrate together then the servant with the one bag came and said master I knew you were a harsh man harvesting crops you didn't plant and gathering crops he didn't cultivate first of all I think this guy like I think he had a wrong perception of who God was who the father was in fact I'm just thinking about this right now there's a lot of people who were under the bondage of religion that think that God is a harsh God and he's and when we think he is an angry and harsh God we're probably not going to produce much fruit we're probably going to be scared of him okay that's just a little side note I just thought about anyway I'll meditate on that later so I was afraid he said I would lose your money so I hid it in the earth here here's your money back so he didn't like make any money and the master replied you wicked and lazy servant if you knew I harvested crops that I didn't plant and gathered that I didn't cultivate why wouldn't you at least deposit my money in a bank account I could have gotten some interest on it so the master ordered take the money from this servant and give it to the one with the ten bags of silver to those who use well what they are given even more will be given and they will have an abundance but from those who do nothing even what little they have will be taken away I've typically read this and thought of it as literal money okay I need to be a good steward of my buddy I'm learning how to be a good steward of my money right I think many of us are but you know when Jesus talks in parables if you've noticed they are not always like exactly so for instance when he said beware of the leaven of the Pharisees was he talking about leaven and bread in fact the disciples were like oh is he we didn't bring enough bread is he you know and Jesus is like no I'm not talking about bread I'm not talking about bread and I was reading this I was like is he really talking about money and then I got a quicken in my spirit and I felt like the Holy Spirit said the talents of silver are people they're people because what is more valuable than people nothing there's nothing more valuable than people created in God's image and so I felt like he said that and I was like well okay but I really would like some confirmation so where did I go I went to Google it's like what a silver represent in the bye so I google it silver represents Redemption what Jesus is saying here is I'm going on a long trip and I've entrusted to you the kingdom would you invest in people so that they would multiply for the kingdom would you invest in two people would you invest in five people and then in return they're going to invest in more people and in the kingdom of God will be multiplied how I mean is that not the kingdom of heaven isn't that what Jesus is talking about is investing in other people in Redemption we witness to people and we invest in them - we're not just get them born again not just okay you prayed the prayer of salvation but actually disciple them to where they grow up in maturity and to can invest in other people and disciple them not just getting people born again on the street guys I'm talking about mothering and fathering people in Christ so that we are investing in them in our investment multiplies how much better is that then okay like invest your talent okay I have a singing talent if I don't sing then Jesus gonna be angry with me now like who cares about the talent I mean we ought talents and we care about them but what matters most is people and redemption the redemption of souls on earth to multiply the kingdom because he said the kingdom if you read in the scriptures it's like a mustard seed you plant it in the greatest of all trees grows and birds come and perch on it and so the kingdom of God that's what he wants is it to grow and flourish and he's entrusted that to us while he's away which is why I believe the church is so important for us to come together and encourage each other Brandon and I feel like the call of God on our life is to invest in people and equip the Saints to do the work of the ministry we can multiply disciples in the kingdom of God [Music]
