What does my American Family think of Japan? (Culture Shocks)

hey everyone we're Tanner Rissa Willa and Noah  we're a little American Family living our dream   of Life abroad and documenting our experiences  along the way a few months ago we moved to   Japan and currently live about an hour south of  Tokyo if you've been following along you'll know   we recently left Germany after spending nearly 3  years traveling working and thriving in Europe our   farewell was difficult but we made the most of our  time there and made some of our favorite memories   that opened our hearts and Minds since arriving  in Japan we've begun exploring our local area as   well as the largest city in the world Tokyo in  today's video we're finally taking it further   in Japan we go on a weekl long road trip to  explore Mount Haruna a beautiful shaped volcanic   Mountain then drive over to Niko National Park  explore fukara Falls one of the most beautiful   waterfalls in Japan and do a day trip to coastal  towns Zushi and Kamakura where we get a beautiful   view of Mount Fuji this is going to be our home  for the next two nights when we drove in it was   dark so we're very excited to see what it looks  like in the morning we're right next to a large   volcano and a lake if you watch our latest video  we have just been having a blast exploring Tokyo   and going to Tokyo at Disney sea Disneyland but  now we're ready to just relax go to the onson   and stay here at a traditional Japanese house so  not only that but we're about to take it to Nico   National Park and just enjoy some of Japanese  nature will what are you finding um watch this one whoa what do you think that is these are the  things that we use this is a fam thing that we   never been tried before and these are so  good but we never tried them how do you   know they're so good but that's why I know  cuz that's why you know and did we mentioned   my American parents are in town we're going to  go over and see what their room looks like I'm   guessing it's about the same but let's hear their  thoughts on it what do you think of your room   very unique not bad though I've never done the  uh roll out your beding and sleep on the floor   be a fun time I'll tell you what I think tomorrow  there you go okay now we're going to get our robes   who what one do you guess is the one you should  take I don't have a clue me either is this the   small or is this the large that's the big what do  you think of your room um it's very interesting we   get sleep on the floor so that's nice do makeup in  we got to go make our bed huh let's go this oh no   no no girl hold it out it and this one is already  made this already made we don't even have to do it   oh my gosh look at this the inside of the pillow  it has like a spot for your head to go there's   like not the cushion inside there you go that's  exactly how your head supposed to go lying down for ice ice you found an [Music] icicle oh  that's helpful he roll you up roll you up where's here you go no [Music] [Music] [Music]   no by now it's afternoon here in Lake Haruna  we're going to be here for two nights this   morning we woke up to have a nice big Japanese  buffet breakfast one thing that we haven't   acquired our taste to yet is some of their soft  boiled eggs it's really interesting because the   whites around it are very runny but somehow the  yolk inside is more cooked so we haven't quite   figured out how they're doing that I don't  know when I think of like soft boiled it's   more of the yolk that's more soft and then the  white is more firm but then the scrambled eggs   were a little like softer and rennier as well  now I'm enjoying some ice cream kind of like a   waffle cone like texture on the outside and  then the ice cream's inside but between the   two food experiences I've had so far we went and  walked around the area there's a cable car on Lake   karuna unfortunately right now it's closed for  maintenance so that was a big bummer now we're   just going to enjoy the onen relaxing we've  been very busy as you guys have seen so we're   excited to just like play some games relax and  my family's going to have their first Japanese   onset experience here at this location they're  separated male versus female there is no clothing   allowed so it's a naked sauna naked Onsen these  are the little belts and it was cool they're uh   folded into little stars I'm excited to go and  just take a few minutes and enjoy just getting   in some nice humid moist air it's been really  dry this winter more than we've been used to in   Germany and a lot like what was in Utah Mount  Haruna where we're staying is actually in like   the lake is in a Caldera or basically like the  Basin of a old volcano the mount tuna the most   prominent of the Peaks here that has the cable car  is a dormant volcano so it's very popular place   to come here camping in the summer and actually  was one of the filming sites for one of the anime [Music] we've drove another hour and a half or so  to the mountains again we're going to be   exploring the mountains in and around NCO  National Park a very popular destination   just a few hours away from Tokyo we're going to  go and explore our first stop here to a little   waterfall and then we'll be continuing our  way into Nico and excited to see what we can [Music] find St silly facee this [Music] nice well we made it to  the town of Ni it's snowing and   so we decided before we head up to the  mountain we're going to get some food   we're at a Chinese restaurant  this place comes highly rated look at like so good me up that restaurant was  a good success lots of delicious food fried   rice guoa amazing now we're going to make our  way to this uh pudding store that actually has   lots of fun dairy products including some soft  serve ice cream which we have been searching for it is beyond freezing right now I'm wearing  Converse with which was definitely the wrong   type of shoes my toes are icicles we went to go  and look at one of the most famous waterfalls   here which was beautiful but we were still  cold that we were like let's just get it to   the gift shop and while we were in the gift  shop we saw lemon ice cream that is a very   rare thing I don't even know if I've ever  had that before and none of us could pass   it up so we ordered one guoa croquet and then  we ordered five lemon ice creams and the lady   at the stand was like five she kept repeating  it like three times like you really want five   we're crazy but it was really good we've made  our way over to the bathrooms near the lake and   we noticed that there is like a volcano looking  mountain right close to the lake we couldn't see   it very clearly so we could be wrong on that  but um we just can't see very well because   it's snowing and so it's kind of impairing our  um view we already know we have plans to come   back in the summer so we're going to enjoy more  of it when we come back when it's a little warmer Well normally I would say that I'm adventurous  enough to jump in waters like this but with the   wind the way that it is right now it's -6° C  there's ice formed on top of this tree and the   Rocks off of the lake I definitely going to be  passing and it's freezing absolutely freezing   out here this is a very popular place for like  Fall Foliage obviously right now with no leaves   it's not as uh picturesque but it is really still  beautiful with all of the snow that's here we've   seen a couple of deer as we've driven up here as  well for the night we're staying in Nico City this   is at a rettin state and rettin is something that  we knew about in the States but it's very popular   here and this is an accommodation that my mom  found on booking.com and it's nice because it's   contactless and we'll give you a little tour comes  with like a fulls size kitchen cabinet recycling   here is the bathroom shower you got to unlock  it oh you guys it is kind of like a little onson   artificial hot spring wow and there is a Dyson  toilet and I think we're getting really comfy Co no look there's supposed to be M so  there's enough for people all to come   and sleep on the ground a projector  On The Wall YouTube they [Music]   I got three Savory fish sandwiches here with  cheese and meat I think and maybe one with   eggs so there's not fish in them no but they're  like the fish shaped bread ones that are usually   usually sweet what do you yeah what do you think  good I was just saying how I wish we had one of   these nearby our house in yosa because there's  one close by but it's the sweet ones and these   by far are so much better so we drove about 2  and 1/2 hours to this next spot here which is   close by where we're going to be sleeping for  the night we made it here to this suspension   bridge that spans across this Valley and  it's really fun because there are people   bungee jumping off of this and it makes R and I  think back to when we were in New Zealand and we   jumped off of one of the bridges there such an  adrenaline fi day probably not going to do that   today but still really fun hyping you up yeah  she's like it's a little loose but you'll still   be safe it's good I'll be with you we'll be safe  oh here we go here you go mom don't a Mone to guys hey oh yeah you just go by the h [Music]   deepest blue open the window and let it through  the day is waiting for me and you and we will do anything open Rose take my hand and we  don't need a reason we just and we will go anywhere this is our we're feeling so light the  Stars a all ignite for you and I this is our time wildest dreams with you  they all seem Within Reach when   together walking away with little ice cream I'm  so sorry Noah I know pumpkin I gave you some of   the pizza fish the very first time we tried ice  cream here in Japan like blew me away I feel like   I describe it as it tastes like it just came like  out of the udder like I don't know what it is and   how they make it differently I should look that  up but it just tastes more creamy creamy Dairy   like that's not a good description but tastes  more like out but it's really really [Music] good feeling so light the Stars  say all ignite for you and I this   is our time together we wild and  this is where we're me to be I all righty W this is way better than I thought W this is big you see really good I was thinking the   mango one was the best one but that  one is like blueberry yogurt oh so good hi hi [Music] [Music]   look at the pretty tree [Music] take him for the uncle's plate the big one hi hi fish well we're back here in Tokyo  the city we're all started with with   my parents we're going to head home and  enjoy a couple fun days so the video's   not over yet but we made a stop to see the  Statue of Liberty actually that's not true   we made a stop to eat at a good breakfast  restaurant and there's the Statue of Liberty here so this area is here in Oda and not only is  there the Statue of Liberty there's a beautiful   view of the Rainbow Bridge it's called that  because at night time it lights up in rainbow   colors and it was a really pretty view even  from the restaurant that we ate at which I   would highly recommend being here is really fun  to see the water and just a beautiful view of   the Bay of Tokyo it is always astonishing to  us how many buildings there are and driving   through Tokyo has been really fun it gives us a  different view than we're used to being on the   train so I've really enjoyed that here nearby  you can also hop on a boat and they do like a   scenic boat tour ride one of them looked kind  of like a spaceship like boat it was kind of   so definitely some things to look at I've even  seen a tour group here so I do think it's kind   of a popular area probably because of the view and  there's a lot of shopping to do here in this area   you got Pap yeah that's such a big smile today's  a really special day because it's Noah's birthday   so to celebrate we're actually exploring our  local area with our family we're going to be   going on a little boat tour here in yosa and  then after we're going to celebrate our little   Noah I cannot believe it's been one year wow it's  really cool having my mom here because she was in   Germany during her birth so we celebrated Noah's  first birthday of her being born happy birthday   to you now we're going to celebrate it again so  it's just fun and actually one of the reasons   why my parents chose this time to come today is  clear sunny skies so it's going to be a and we're  very excited about it because we've made a   stop here in between hayama and Zushi we  are looking at a beautiful view of Fuji   so I'm going to turn this camera around it's  amazing I'm so happy because my dad's a really   outdoor person and has been looking forward  to seeing a good view of Fuji and we got it I'm not going to take you Auntie yeah you having fun see [Music] what look at me honey  hold I didn't even get my thing on yet you want to hold it n oh look at the here you going to be able to hold it we're doing   it oh you got one right on top  of you oh it's a friendly one hi know what what do you think so  cute hi oh look how cute hi you kind of like it you say Hi and  then it oinks and then we don't like that get oh you cool wow [Music] oh woohoo good job yay [Music] we made it here to the famous big gura and this  place is quite crowded I honestly am surprised   at how many people are here exploring Kamakura  and here in these historic sites we had heard   that there were a popular tourist spots but  we actually made a stop to the Buddhist temple   close by here on New Year's Eve we were there  at like 10:00 p.m. and things felt really dead   see we're on the early stages the spring so  there's unfortunately not any spring blossoms   here but you can go up into the statue which I  think is cool it was 50 n [Music] and [Music] [Music] written the day is ending out here in in Kamakura  we're about to watch the sunset here at the coast   while my parents are at an Onsen we actually  gifted them a little private onson experience   they're supposed to have a view of Fuji but the  haaste has set in so we're really happy we got a   good view this morning it seems like by evening  time it's pretty hazy and you can't see too far   but right now we're not alone and enjoying the  sunset we're getting a quite a bit of different   couples here 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 here on these beautiful  like rocks and it's just fun it's been a perfect   day the weather's been great we've had amazing  food we've been able to explore new places and   just happy to have family here emry do you want to  come give your final last thoughts about Japan I   would say it's a beautiful country okay like last  state but yeah country do you have you loved it   so far it's awesome yeah it's been so fun I'd say  my parents would agree to they're really enjoying   it and
