hello everybody welcome to number 27 from me and from the tomato now i am going today to see uh richard or uh otherwise known as jack black or kitch or whatever you want to say he's the guy who helped me do the campbell on the tomato and he happens to sort of be the i don't know if it's the secretary or basically he runs the bx register um so he knows these cars really really well and he is going to give me his opinion on what the tomato is worth so that's awesome i'm also in this episode going to tell you exactly how much i've spent i've totted it all up [Music] so there's a couple of things that i really wanted to talk to rich about and one is that i don't think that the tomato is working quite right in terms of suspension the back end is quite stiff now i may be making trouble for myself really because it's perfectly drivable and i have someone who's interested in getting it um but the someone who's interested in getting it also happens to be a friend so i don't really want to hand something over when i'm not totally happy with it um so we'll see what rich says but i mean there's a couple of possibilities for that either the spheres maybe there's something wrong with those new spheres that i got or it does ride like this or perhaps on the rear suspension where it hangs on that bar that the citroen and peugeots all use maybe the bearings on that are a little bit worn but normally for that to happen you would also have other issues so god i can't see anything it's misty and sunny anyway yeah normally you would have a you would have you would have more issues you'd have noise from the back end i'm not getting any of that so hopefully it's not the rear beam which would be a bit of a pain in the backside to sort out a couple of little things i want to mention about this guy that i absolutely love first of all the speedo that used to vibrate madly has fixed itself it still does around sort of 15 miles an hour but above that it's now just started to work pretty well which is something that's amazing also if you leave the lights on the tomato makes like a siren type noise which is just so particular to this car and something else i've noticed that again i really like is that the switch gear it's all whether you do the indicator or whether you press like the rear wiper it's all just really short travel switches and i know it's a small thing but it just you know it gives you something and um i really like it and you know i have grown really fond of the tomato i have to say it's just the little quirks you just you know and it's been brilliant for moving house it's just been the perfect car for doing that um something else which is quite interesting is the fuel the fuel gauge well it stays on full four-fourths of a tank for 130 miles then in the next 20 miles it goes down to three-quarters of a tank and then another sort of 30 miles after that it goes down to close to one half of a tank so it's just doesn't nothing 430 miles and then in the next sort of 80 miles it loses a half a tank and we'll see what it does after that but um so far yeah i'm trying to work out fuel economy i'll be able to tell you that as well at the end of the video how are you buddy it's only just stopped it was absolutely throwing it down just now are you not like pretty blown away by what the magnificent yeah the little jewel the den the little don't oh yeah sorry the jewel that is the tomato have you polished it it's a little jewel no i've washed it for the first time this morning just before i drove it through all this crap for rain and everything else i basically stopped and got them to wash it because obviously i wanted them to wash it yeah yeah i stopped at a place i didn't have time i've been well yes yeah this is my youtube team and uh and basically yeah we just um yeah it's the first time it's been washed actually it's much redder like it because you know it's obviously there's a slightly different color panel i had noticed that before but yeah no it's it's looking pretty good and i love it it's great i'm just looking at it next to yours and actually the ride height doesn't look that one's not right either oh okay do you want to see a spoiler for one of my future ones oh my god what's going on there someone's fitted xanthia hydroactive regulator spheres which aren't to go on the wheels at all to the wheels on the front of this no way but the back's got genuine 16 atmospheres on it so that's as stiff as it should be mine's stiffer than that try it oh no that's broken that's about right front about right okay it's not the bearings the bearings just yeah because it's not noisy there's no noise no that's the spheres okay well that's good well that's good because it might have bought you once yeah but someone else's fault i can return them i thought i'd done something wrong or something else was broken that's not how you've done something wrong hey show me your um so um rich has got an amazing sm that i've been wanting to see for ages is it accessible can we quickly see it yeah yeah it's uh that's very harsh buggy i've got two actually there's one yeah so uh which is main stuff is actually tvrs um that's what he does uh bx's is more of a sideline and a sort of a personal passion yeah that's the hobby tbr's no i do like tv oh there it is man oh my god that is amazing there it is oh my god i absolutely love that i mean it's just if i saw a pristine one of these of course i'd love it but you know i love i love something that like you you know where you can sort of see a story yeah i to be honest with you i am i'm normally the same yeah but with the sm to me it's like it's just such a design exercise that you gotta do it justice by having it as the designer wanted it apart from the headlights he wouldn't have wanted those problems no those are the american market headlights that is a shame it is but that is this car and i should love it she's such an unbelievably like i can't believe how complex this whole thing looks so to get the engine as far forward as possible they've got the gearbox coming this way i don't even think it was that and i think to get something with that much power yeah um [Music] to make it front wheel drive you had to just do what they've been doing with the ds and the traction which was just to take out an inline engine and gearbox just turn it around and put it back in again just basically like a 911. so the idea for today from my side anyway um is that as one of the uk's foremost bx expert i think that's a fairly select club yeah no one's in it you have a look at the tomato drive it and we have a look at it underneath and stuff and you just give me some well give me a bit of a run down on the car itself but also give me a value because everyone will want to know that and i have someone who's potentially interested in buying it okay yeah well i have to be careful because i'm selling one of those as well so obviously so obviously so i think it's worth a lot more you can hear it going up you can hear it though climbing basically the back end definitely feels solid right yeah it wasn't just my imagination and we checked so and we're pretty sure it spheres but we'll have a look when we bring it up yeah the engine feels quite sweet isn't it yeah it feels it's so tractable i know they're not grunty at low revs but they just pull from tick over yeah you know they don't have a lot of revs but they'll offer it all yeah so yeah it feels it feels better than i thought it was good well no not bet than when i'd watched the tv program yeah since you've had it i thought well maybe it didn't too bad i've been to that farm since yeah and there were cars in the in bushes that were two stories high yeah that will still be there now i think it's just a place bx is going to die yeah this one got away is that a what's it called a release of life yeah it wasn't second chance the opposite of a rapture sort of thing it's like it's found its way yeah so yeah it's cool it's cool story for it as well yeah obviously i follow bx's because i'm a nerd yeah and this one dropped off the radar for a good couple of years and i was writing in the column in the bx mag anyone know where that car is yeah and then suddenly some fella up north popped up with it he said oh i bought that and i think he paid less than they did for it or something like that after all yeah no it feels zingy so it's not quite as quick as you don't think it feels quite as quick as you're definitely know the problem you've got is that when you first drove it on your video you weren't sure you were like oh yeah and they are like that you don't know they don't pin you back in the seat right like a modern car would yeah but it gets around the revs quick enough yeah sounds happy yeah it probably is it probably it probably is there or there abouts it's um it pulls quite nice it's got a lovely note change you know the timing is right yeah because the timing was wrong you wouldn't get that it was quite flat right across a couple of other things i think when we were driving earlier that you mentioned let's just summarize it all so the the gear change is uh could do with having some bushes put in right and then it will sharpen it up which is nice to hear they're never gonna be like a honda but they're better than that but they're better the gear knob yeah is really really tidy that's a selling feature on that car honestly they don't normally they're like normally in bits by now so do you reckon this is supposed to be just under the seventy sixty six thousand miles um on the on the program they said basically the guys who who sold it and the farms said it was one owner car and it's has it really done sixty five thousand miles it's a one-owner car sixty-five thousand from you yeah right giving you my edge obviously there isn't much paperwork but there's i think it looks pretty much like that doesn't it yeah i reckon it is i don't think it's genuine they're normally you see you still got the texture on the wheel there yeah that's normally gone yeah um the gear knob yeah yeah i'd say it's genuine [Music] [Music] what that's really good it is good isn't it yeah no it really is yeah you won't you won't find much better than that yeah not from you know for something that's been used yeah original fuel pump video oh wow yeah they are amazing aren't they the seals i was looking at them going out as well yeah yeah no yeah this is it's better than mine my magazine featured on tv and everything well this one's been on tv yeah this is uh and it's generally it it's yeah right yeah sounds like a bit of a bit of spanner yeah i saw that and that was really annoying and you can be better off leaving that as it is at the moment yeah um yeah once a little bit there maybe a little bit touch up but yeah yeah man that's really good yeah i know i'm really chuffed with it it's not even bent here these are all stoves in where people try jacking them up where's the um you know you mentioned the gear change bits are they under here or where's the bit that goes a lot of play in that for a start so you see um you probably can't see there's a ball joint up there yeah hang on it's almost out of the ball joint well how's that possible oh chris you've got no bush in it how was that working then well my red one my mark one so this wouldn't work now the gear change now that you're going so literally you got enough of a bump wow it's just been gravity that's held it on okay um my um my mark one has done the same thing and i've had to modify it and put it in through it wow that's pretty good as well yeah it's good enough it really is it's got the original arch liner and yeah it's got a clip missing someone's put okay yeah me oh that cable tight on yeah oh well it's got the original metal yeah i've got both of them yeah yeah this is definitely low mark this is the mileage is genuine yeah 100 i bet my life on it yeah um okay so nothing wrong with that so it's definitely the spheres isn't it yeah 30 bar bx16 valve and we actually got the spec written on them we don't normally have that yeah this is the donor car that rich is using for his sm project as you can see it's quite far gone but it's going to give him the bits that he needs by the way yeah i think you probably have seen in the other video but um have a look at his channel up and down so up and then end and then down i've got hold of the guy who i bought my spheres from but amazingly rich has got some that we can use to replace and that's going to do a few things really first of all it will show if it's definitely the spheres which we're pretty sure it is and secondly it will make it it'll make it ride like it should which would be amazing it's only very slightly different basically yeah wow what's happening there oh hello hey there you go there's your problem oh so they are definitely folded ruptured yeah it's ruptured it gets nitrogen coming out so you can see it's just bubbling there still so as they were ruptured okay but it feels completely different to before i have to say um this is the proper sort of citroen hydro experience yeah it feels a bit more composed as well that's brilliant now the key question what do you think it's worth you know how much i paid 100 quid it's one of those for me that's worth a fair bit more than other people might think yeah because most people look at the car and how shiny it is yeah whereas to me the bodywork is like you can see that it's honest yeah you know what that needs underneath that is really good yeah that is that's really the shell on that car the body shell the seals yeah yeah it's you won't find much better to be honest you you might find one that's as good but you won't find one better i don't think not unless it's not been driven so that's awesome i reckon there's probably three and a half four yeah yeah all right wow all right so yeah because it depends who wants it but if someone wants if someone's serious yeah and they want a good one and it's got a bit of history to it that i'm pretty sure that mileage is genuine yeah yeah i know you weren't you know because you've not got the paperwork but you can feel it you can see it underneath yeah the way it is i genuinely think that my mark one that's done twenty thousand has no paperwork but you can tell so i yeah i think you could i think you could ask that much thanks buddy that's all right now we appreciate it so great news then on the valuation um it's three five to four thousand i think that's more of an asking price really um so i think really it's probably three three and a half but anyway let's see how much i have actually spent on the tomato so first of all uh the repairs that panel that i got from vani thanks buddy uh i think he charged me 60 pounds for that um so that was fixing that door hinge obviously no time or materials apart from the actual panel itself were included in that then the cam belt parts i think were 185 or 195 um the spheres were 200 pounds the petrol cap various bits that i ended up having to buy so another petrol cap that was about 40 pounds then all the other bits that i had to get with some other bits there as well there that was about 80 pounds and the exhaust was pretty cheap that was for 65 pounds then i had to pay anton to do that wishbone and so on and the other couple of bits that we did together that was a hundred and sixty um fixing the leaks at the rear so those boots and then the washer sort of the little washer bit that was 85 pounds the mot was 55 and the belt so the rear seat belt that had to be replaced because it failed the mot got second home one of those and a surround panel for the front spotlights that was 35 altogether um the wishbone and a couple of other bits that was 60 pounds at the paint that i bought obviously to refinish the bit on the door and everything else the paint and other bits there that was 45 pounds oil because they did a change was 45 the fluid that i bought for the suspension was 45 and lastly to transport the tomato back here that was another 200 pounds so all in all that comes to 1 360 pounds which is way more than i thought i was going to have to spend on this um but it is a great car so with the purchase price of 1550 basically that brings me this owes me 2 860 pounds and i think i have agreed on a deal um with a friend for exactly that price so as usual i'm making absolutely nothing on this car which is ridiculous but anyway that's not why i'm doing this so you know all fine and good the last thing to leave you with is so far the average miles to the gallon that the tomato has done and that's a complete mix of everything driving it hard driving it slow driving it in town driving it around has been um 30 miles to the gallon so pretty good i would say actually so really pleased with this whole thing um let's keep our eyes open and see what happens and uh yeah i look forward to seeing you for the next one i've got some really surprising cars coming up very soon that i've bought
