What did they Hide? Guy Bought a New Car and Was Scammed! A day in the life of a Mechanic.

Korean welcome back to the Roadside Rescue YouTube channel I'm Ernest and on this episode I'm going to do my best to help out an old buddy who's in a bit of trouble right now so I met my friend about five years ago we used to live in the same neighborhood and this buddy was one of my very first customers when I started my business they moved out in Utah for several years and they've been moving around and throughout the time they've been buying several different cars and I guess some of them just go bad they're really old used cars and I help them out as much as I can fixing up their old cars for them well they recently just had to buy a new one and and unfortunately I got a text from my friend the other night that said he was ripped off when he bought a new car so we'll hop out the truck here real quick the van's already here we'll take a look at it and I'll talk about what's going on but basically my buddy bought a new van and on the way home the check engine light came on and it's definitely something they knew about their family's in a pretty tough place right now so I'm just gonna donate this labor they actually showed up with the new part I was just gonna clean the old part for them and try and save as much money as possible but I'm definitely not going to charge him anything to fix this I'm going to see if I can just get out there and fix it real quick and the come and swap happen sooner you can donate as well oh man it is way too bright out here okay here's this van let's just walk around and take a look at it it's actually got some pretty nice rims on it I mean just some Universal Rims but nice little upgrade a little bit of a lift on it almost it looks like it's probably stock but maybe those tires are skinny I'm gonna go ahead and get them some new windshield wipers as well he was saying that on the way here the rubber on the windshield wipers busted and it's really hard to see because the roads are terrible with all the snow foreign pull this into the driveway so I can just use the tools in the big truck and we'll take a look at that part they brought as well and the code that's popping up [Music] all right so here's the new part as you can see it's in EGR valve and the code popping up is p0401 the customer showed up with this new EGR valve here so hopefully I can swap this out pretty simply it looks like it's a not too hard to get to it also looks like it's kind of dirty in there Dusty maybe like dirty dirty see how that other one looks if it's some real obvious signs if there's a real obvious piece of carbon in there or something and that's all it is but I don't think it's going to be worth uh cleaning the old one anyways because I think they said that part was pretty cheap and uh they just kind of want to put that new one in so maybe we'll investigate cleaning the old one but where we're gonna put that new one in I don't actually know where it's at yet so hopefully it's easy to switch out but I'm going to do what it takes to help them out regardless oh yeah it's right there don't even have to look around for it oh my goodness oh my goodness that's I guarantee you the issue what is that glue that is Gorilla Glue looking stuff oh my god dude I cannot believe this that's probably the issue that almost looks new like somebody replaced it but they did not use the right kind of gasket material there and that may have just clogged it up or whatever hopefully uh it's just something real obvious again thank you so hopefully it's something obvious I'm gonna have to take this off and check it out then uh [Applause] [Applause] oh what the [ __ ] you what is that the heck kind of gasket is that what the heck is that that's the issue right there this is the worst gasket I've ever seen that's not even that can't not even be a gasket there's no way that's the issue right there that almost doesn't look the same though definitely not the same good news is though I should be able to fabricate a gasket for that with some gasket paper I don't have any gasket paper with me but I already have to go to the parts store to get some windshield wipers so this is going to be an easy two for one run of the parts store after lunch here I'll just go get some lunch with my brother real quick it's his birthday so leave a happy birthday comment to my brother in the comments down below I'm gonna take him out to lunch real quick and then we'll come back and get this gasket fixed and this car doesn't need to be picked up until tonight so we've got plenty of time all right I just got back with these wipers and that gasket stuff so I'm gonna go ahead and replace the wipers first since that's easier to do should take just a second boom there you go brand new windshield wipers that'll be nice foreign here's that gasket paper all right save that for later this should be all I need to make the gasket for that we'll cut that down in just a second when I get back out let's put this up okay now what you can do is just put your gasket paper on line it up with an edge or two whatever you can and then you just push around the outside like this increase it all right coming in when you pull it off you can see the crease you need to cut around there same thing there for the inside and while I have this open I'll clean it up anyways now I've got to do is just poke a hole through these with a screwdriver or something so I can get the scissors in there all right there's my beautifully finished gasket there it ain't pretty but it's gonna work with the inside a little bit okay so let's go ahead and put this on and hopefully that'll fix the problem [Music] but at least uh we're not going to be able to replace this EGR valve is the the new one's not the right one all right [Music] [Music] foreign let's go ahead and just give this a test drive and make sure that light doesn't come back on all right so that code's cleared we've got a system lean code which doesn't surprise me since that would have caused the vacuum leak and my buddy was also complaining about a weird Idol which that would have caused as well that looks like it's idling fine so I'm gonna go ahead and drive it for a couple miles so that's a job well done I'm super excited to give this back to the customer I'm not sure if I'll actually be here when they come back to get the keys or not if they are then I'll film his reaction but I'm super excited that was less than twenty dollars in Parts alone and hopefully this thing will be good to go for years to come right after this I had to head across town for an emergency call out somebody's vehicle won't start and they have to move out in the morning so I've got to get this running today and real quick shout out to these brunt boots I've been wearing would say this so my friend says I'm your worst customer ever I'm sure of it to which I responded you're not a customer you're my friend I always take care of you so that's a classic way for a friend
