Sheba's tires have been around for long enough now that most people know that benefits for most mountain bikers their performance and reliability over the old tire and tube setup they're really known for yeah but what about tie inserts well actually they've been found at downhill World Cups I need oh yes a lot but they're even starting to creep in and exhaling so who are they for well thanks to cush core where ride in different bikes today and we're gonna find out [Music] but what are tire inserts well these are basically made out of foam it gives you another layer of protection a lot of punctures are caused by hitting an obstacle really hard and what I call dreaming out you can feel a obstacle hit your rim so even with tubeless you can rip the tire old-school to use a snake bite the same thing even with tires you can rip them and this is going to add another layer of protection to stop that from pinching these obviously then also help protect your rims so that it's important from stopping aluminium ring rims getting dinged but also on car rims a Kesava getting damaged also these letters F will run lower pressure and that means that you're gonna get less chatter so the really hard tire basically just pings off everything so softer pressures me more grip but also actually interesting enough less rolling resistance of course you are adding rotating mass to your bike so it will make it feel heavier but there's a good chance might be able to offset that with a lighter tire because you're not a need quite such a tough tire anymore or even lighter rims of course if you'll ride in really smooth trails these might seem like a bit of overkill but if you're riding rougher more aggressive trails then who knows right to the trails I weigh 78 kilos and this is my trail bike where I'm running trail tires front and rear so 140 mil travel on the rear I have got 28 psi on the front I'm 25 and I'm running the cush cord 27.5 pro I'm 80 kilos on my heart ale I'm running 28 psi up back 25 up front and I've got the XE inserts in our way 72 kilograms my bike has got 180 min of travel I've got 26 PS on the rear 24 up front I'm running the cush court 29er Pro and I'm running trail tires not enduro ones so I'm 89 kilos this is 150 ml travel a mountain bike 29 inch downhill tires front and rear pumped up at 30 psi and I'm running the cush core pro 29 alright you've all seen it where people shroud manacle on a slow motion while also tires gonna come off sometimes we've all pretty chunky tyres suffer you rich highs affair yeah these are these could be interesting around those turns and I want to see you 12th at [Music] tire inserts give you more sidewall stability and less chance of birth pin so basically push the bead of the tire and the sidewall out so the beam sits nicer in the rims less likely to lose it sort of contact with the rim and burp any pressure right so what I'm gonna do now is actually lower my tire pressures just two or three psi see if I find a bit more grip and try again [Music] sliding the bike around and shroud bin is good if the tire doesn't come off but stability will be faster it's possible to run lower pressures with inserts and find more grip it's time to see who has the most traction I start with a stop in tests two against two I reckon let's go EB vs cross-country boys this could be interesting right on that each other so you could stop the quickest the winner will go off against a trail bike or injury bot let's go Oh quite fast yeah [Applause] I think I just pimp you a fun you ready I killed you Wow I don't stand a chance against that Neil has just won against Blake's enduro bike took that one and that means he's against me or I'm against him and judging by our quickie stops well I don't fancy me chances I'll be honest my money is on Neil because he's got crazy grippy tires his bikes long wheelbase and his brakes are amazing and it's Neil [Applause] no yeah Wow I'll be on it's the two nobility that's key here for the grip because you're replacing some of the air volume with a foam damper so that's why you can start running slightly lower pressures and get more tire on the ground still have some stability in the sidewall and you can really see that with my big sort of tread on my trail stroking Giro tires it really helped me out when I was coming to stop [Music] on the other end of the scale compared to Neal's enduro tires my lightweight cross-country tires actually benefit from the cush goal because I can run them at a lower pressure for great attraction on the uphills but not worry about dinging a rim tire inserts a design smooth out the ride by taking away some of the impact forces and controlling the rebound and that's going to improve the suspension even on Rich's cross-country bike or big impacts the insert it's going to protect the rim and help prevent flat three [Music] enduro bike here solved the home of the tyrant er and it feels like I'm running lower pressures than all these words definitely two or three pierside lower than normal and it felt like I could thrash them pretty hard still what about you guys for me I run really hard type pressures but now I've got these inserts I've kind of brought the tire pressure down a lot more so I can get a little bit more grip it's quite a low profile tie on the back you you're a bit of a wrecker normally you go for chunky time oh I did go to a point where the tire pressure was probably a little bit too low in the rough stuff I could feel it's squirreling all over the place but I was confident because I know that that tires gonna stay on which is good rich you know we talked about mass or weight on bikes cross countries don't love it rotational mass especially what you think about using one cross country boy it's interesting actually so if you're willing to negate the weight penalty of using them on a cross-country bike and that rotational mass once you're up to speed actually they're really good you feel more confident especially on the downhills that you're not going to smash through that tire or those lightweight cross-country wheels that most people are running oh think the bead light wave riders it maybe won't feel necessary but if you're quite an aggressive Rider riding across country boy agreed yet if you're a thorough you know racer thoroughbred you might think twice about that weight penalty but today but yeah actually saved you going through that rough stuff oh yeah if I didn't have the inserts there'd be many punches going on if you want to see our POV runs for a matte track then head over to our Instagram no just before you ask mine isn't in slow-mo isn't it if you want to check out a little bit more ebike action head over to EMB n make sure we check some the vids out over there
