bold from an early age it was clear that McKenna was not just another face in the crowd she was just 6 years old when she started playing piano and by 12 she had ventured into singing but it was during her teenage years that McKenna's Talent really began to flourish at the age of 16 she joined the Cinematic pop Orchestra a group known for its breathtaking Renditions of popular songs infused with classical Arrangements McKenna stood out not only for her Angelic voice but for her profound ability to connect with the music and the audience in 2015 she received Global recognition for her viral performance of Hallelujah which was featured in various videos and news stories composing Hallelujah hallelu McKenna's transition from a local talent to a national sensation wasn't overnight it was a journey marked by auditions performances and moments that tested her resolve among these her audition for America's Got talents stands as a testament to her courage and dedication with with the Cinematic pop Orchestra and choir she presented a performance that won the hearts of judges and viewers alike earning EST Standing Ovation and unanimous [Music] [Applause] approval yet true to the unpredictable nature of the music industry cinematic pop faced logistical challenges that led them to make the difficult decision to withdraw from the competition this moment potentially disheartening instead revealed McKenna's resilience the experience was not an end but a beginning propelling her into New Opportunities and allowing her to touch more lives with her music Beyond her singing career McKenna also serves as a flight operations support specialist her responsibilities include both pre and post-flight preparations securing pilots in plane uploading GoPro footage from flights and assisting pilots and her team with any needs she refers to her job as the coolest job ever in a video she posted to her Instagram account she showcases her daring side attempting an extreme aerobatic maneuver she also used Instagram to announce she auditioned for American Idol saying I finally made the decision to try out for this next season of American Idol this has been a dream of mine for a long time and I am proud of how far I have come I am beyond grateful for the opportunity I was given to be able to even audition McKenna now 25 walked into the audition room to meet judges Katie Perry Luke briyan and Lionel Richie when asked if mus Gran and her family she shared her story of being adopted and only recently coming into contact with her birth family for as long as she can remember McKenna has known that she was adopted but it wasn't until 3 years ago when she asked to learn more about her biological family that she discovered the origins of her musical talents McKenna told the American Idol judges that she had discovered that her birth mother was a singer named Amy Ross Lopez it was a closed adoption so McKenna wasn't able to find out any information on her birth mother until after her 21st birthday once she turned 21 McKenna learned her birth mother had recently passed away systemic lupus claimed the life of Amy Ross Lopez in October of 2013 she was 40 years old Amy was a gifted musician who was known for her exceptional piano skills and captivating singing voice in her 20s she married Derek Ross and together they launched their musical careers performing as a husband and wife Duo under the name no W man and a whiskey girl less than 24 hours after her death Amy's husband overcome with grief took his own life a documentary titled nowhere man and a whiskey girl the story of Amy and Derek sheds light on the couple's lives and untimely deaths during her audition for the Idol judges McKenna shared that she had connected with her birth family last summer although their interactions had been limited to FaceTime she revealed plans to meet them in person just 3 weeks after her audition what McKenna didn't know however was that several members of her birth family waited to meet her on the opposite side of the door for her audition she delivered a heartfelt rendition of there was Jesus a Grammy winning duet by Christian artist Zach Williams and country music icon dolly [Music] pardon McKenna explained she chose the song because she felt a deep connection to the lyrics judge Katy Perry praised McKenna's signature raspy voice saying the audition was beautiful judge Lionel Richie chimed in telling McKenna I love exactly what you did and I love the sound of your voice when judges asked McKenna to bring her family inside the audition room to hear her results she thought she would be retrieving her adoptive family to her surprise when she opened the door her birth family was also there adding an emotional twist to the moment as the newly United Family cherished the moment they noticed Katie Perry who had recently announced that this season would likely be her last as a judge was also moved no I'm not cry crying you are Katie remarked as she shifted the focus and wiped away her tears when Katy Perry asked McKenna is she knew any of her mother's songs McKenna confirmed she did she then played the piano and sang a song called Tumbleweed moving her grandmother to tears during the performance deep in [Music] the following her touching performance and emotional reunion the judges unanimously voted to send McKenna to Hollywood advancing her to the next stage of the competition McKenna's emotional audition resonated with viewers and even caught the attention of the original artists of the song Zack Williams one of the song's original performers was so moved that he shared McKenna's audition video with Dolly Parton during a studio session capturing Parton's reaction Williams posted the video on Instagram where both artists expressed admiration for McKenna's rendition and offered messages of encouragement during Hollywood week McKenna showcased her vocal range with a performance of Adele's When We Were Young
