[Music] hi hello how's it going it's elena welcome back to my channel today i'm bringing you guys another episode of buzzed in which is basically a new york city apartment tour series where i show off people's different apartments throughout new york and kind of highlight their decor the way they decorate small apartments and also give you guys some insight on the neighborhood in case you want to learn a little bit more today we're heading to nomad to go meet chelsea and i actually found chelsea on instagram she is an expert when it comes to decorating small rental spaces she even literally wrote a book on it which is so badass and her place is stunning so i'm so excited to go check it out in person and as usual before heading over let's learn a little bit of history about nomads so the name nomad came into the use around 1999 and actually stands for north of madison square park nomad is bound from 25th to 30th street as well as the avenue of the americas and lexington avenue so around the mid 19th century new yorkers began establishing residents around the park you find stunning brownstones there notable figures like franklin d roosevelt and grover cleveland once lived since then it's transitioned from a more residential area to an area with a lot of commercial businesses in the earliest 20th century so you can find places like italy to dine at many stores for shopping and luxury boutique hotels so on that note let's head up town to nomad and go meet chelsea hello everyone my name is chelsea brown i am the author of rental style and the founder of the vlog city chic decor we are taking a tour of my new york city studio apartment today in nomad my apartment is 3 200 net effective so the kitchen is kind of what i gave up on when choosing this apartment i didn't want a kitchen in an entryway yet the kitchen and the entryway is what i got it's very small there's not a lot of counter space to glam this up i added contact paper this is all contact paper i have a little coffee bar here and then i have all my cabinets which i'm not going to open because they are an absolute disaster what i did to add extra storage because i live in a very small space is i added baskets on top with labels so i know what belongs in each bin this is the infamous closet i liked this apartment because it had a walk-in closet yes i know i wear a lot of black it's all black that's the dream though and this is the bathroom which i'm not going to show too much of because it is not that interesting and then we have another coat closet here and we have a washer dryer here which is another reason why i chose this apartment i gave up the kitchen for washer and dryer in new york city you always have to give up something all right so we're going to go into the bedroom living room dining area you name it it isn't here so here we have my layered mirrors not only are they super cute but they're also functional i actually have storage behind these mirrors i keep a bunch of pieces of artwork behind here and my dog's baby gate don't underestimate the value of like a few inches of space because you're gonna need all that if you move into a space as small as mine move over two feet this is my living [Music] area [Music] this is very small but also very functional i have this media console here so much storage inside of it i invested in the samsung frame tv so it looks like a piece of art when you're not using it i have this neon sign probably my favorite aspect of this apartment i actually had it custom made it says remember when you prayed for what you have now remember all those years ago when you prayed for what you have now when you wanted what you have now a lot of people underestimate how far they've come when you live in a smaller space you have to look at an item before you buy it and then can be used for more than one purpose so for example this ottoman great to kick your feet up on great for extra seating and also versus a coffee table this floor lamp is my baby i got this from a vintage reseller and there's my dog trying to wait that's a really cute shirt i have this issue with finding things on facebook marketplace and just knowing i don't have the space for it but still buying it when i was home in virginia visiting my parents i saw this pedestal on facebook marketplace and i was like i have nowhere to put it i need that bought it off of someone on facebook please put it in my car i brought it up to new york like it's like bordering on the line of like maybe being a little bit too cluttered but i don't care because i love it shell i got from a thrift shop in virginia i personally don't love real florals and i know people are going to hate on me for that but i think that they are expensive and you have to keep going out and buying new flowers every single week i say don't do that rent michaels buy florals that look real create your own arrangement and you have it forever he is um giving you a preview of how comfortable the sofa is he loves it i love it this is from crate barrel it is stain resistant very easy to clean you can pop off the cover and throw it into the washer and dryer which is absolutely fantastic and it's the perfect size for a really small apartment i wanted something that i could nap on relax on work on and this fit the bill this is the infamous gallery [Music] not only do i have layered pieces of art on here which i will get to in a second i will teach you how to do it i also have art on the ceiling i always try and come up with ways my own home that i can create just interesting ways of expressing yourself through pieces of decor furniture so how i did this gallery wall is it's all cardboard frames with heavy duty command strips that's all it is you try this out in your own home make sure it's cardboard do not use any real frames on your ceiling you don't want those frames falling and hitting someone and then these layer frames literally all it is is just different size nails so for the ones that are attached to the wall shorter nails the ones that are layered even longer nails i try and find as many ways as possible to display my favorite art that i buy at dirt shops or flea markets and by the way all the art that i have in my home 99 of it is thrifted including the frames i also have art hanging on my divider right here because i had nowhere else to put it this is an extension of my kitchen because i didn't have a lot of storage in the kitchen so i keep a bunch of pots and pans in here and i also use the surface space to prepare food if there's just like too much stuff going on in my kitchen [Music] because i live in a studio i wanted a way to separate my living area from my bed area and i got this divider this is the bed area if it's a queen-size bed and two nightstands i really wanted a feature statement in this area which is why i took a beautiful wallpaper from animal decor they are one of my favorite places to purchase female instinct wallpaper that works for renters super easy to apply super easy to remove okay what about this man is there any stories it's just a thrift find i got this dude from the flea market a few weeks ago and for some reason i liked him i liked his vibe so i got him my parents when they come visit my apartment they're like this looks like hogwarts you know with all like stalking portraits [Applause] [Music] this is my dresser i got it from a vintage reseller when i first moved into this apartment this mirror there's a tutorial for it on my blog i diy this myself which is a jigsaw and a cheap mirror from home depot this is one of my favorite favorite favorite tips for smaller spaces when it comes to storing your jewelry instead of just keeping your jewelry in a drawer where everything gets tangled up take some chic faces i found these at h m i just layered a bunch of necklaces on top also a feature statement too so not only is it functional but it's also really cute one of my favorite items in my home is my console table behind my sofa it's pretty beaten up but it's because i use it all the time again when you live in a smaller space you have to think will this item serve for more than one purpose this console table serves as my desk as my dining table as place to do some diys you live in a smaller space and you have a floating sofa i highly recommend you incorporate this into your own home they also have two stools underneath that have storage in them another fun fact unrelated that if you live in a smaller space i highly recommend you float your sofa to create division in your space [Music] my platform is all about how to decorate small rental spaces from my instagram to my tick tock you are a renter or you live in a small apartment this brand is probably perfect for you and this book is probably perfect for you it has all the information you need from moving into your first rental apartment from moving out toasting in your apartment to decorating it [Music] i would say a good definition of my style would be parisian meets postmodern meets eclectic it's very unique to myself and it's very unique to my own character and i think that's what everyone's home should represent for themselves [Music] one of my favorite decorating tips when it comes to decorating small rental spaces is to keep your bases neutral so what do i mean by bases i mean your large pieces of furniture like your sofa your bed a large area rug keep those neutral colored right so ivories whites beiges tans so you can add in pops of color through the accents and decor one of my favorite diy projects is applying wall paneling in your home now normally wall paneling is this very heavy duty project but i created a way to hack this project to make it work for renters by using lightweight wall paneling and velcro strip i also have this tutorial in my book rental style [Music] so i love nomad nomad is actually a subsection of chelsea they're so essential to everything you have every single train you could possibly want near you the demographic is very young too i am in my late 20s and and everyone's pretty much around the same age around here the store you want you name it it is probably in nomad another thing about nomad is that you get high-rise buildings which you don't get in the village i really wanted that amazing manhattan skyline view you can't go wrong with this [Music] just
