all right let's do this put the battery on all right leaving the gym this is about a 12.2 mile ride home on the e-bike and a small smidget of highway which i have to do right now but it's like less than a mile there we go [Music] all right but today i want to talk to you guys bypass there we go all right but today about e-bike kits because of course this is a custom e-bike i talk about it basically exclusively on this channel and i want to talk about kits because you can save a lot of money by doing what i do so when it comes to e-bike kits there's a whole sea of options out there and to be honest they're kind of exactly the same i'm sure like one or two factories makes all of the hub motors because at the end of the day a hub motor is just a basic brushless ooh electric scooter like i was saying a hub motor is just a brushless electric motor like it's super simple so there's only a few factories that make them and they're all essentially identical so that's important to understand the biggest differentiator between the brands is going to be the rim attached to the hub motor and of course the controller because that comes with the hub motor so like the amperage that's rated for as well as the battery and whether or not it's compatible with 52 volts 72 volts all that kind of stuff so when it comes to my kit i believe the the brand name so to speak it's just a chinese no name is nb power i see they sell on amazon but i went directly to alibaba i'm sure aliexpress is the same thing but the shipping is going to be way longer it's like a month shipping but i got it for like half the price i actually had to buy things like the throttle myself on amazon it's okay they all use the same like three wire connection so it's very simple and it's actually better that way so you can choose exactly what throttle and different accessories you actually want oh yeah and of course the bike the bike is very important i wouldn't put a 2 000 watt motor on a 20 year old bike that you found in your basement this bike i bought specifically to do this conversion it was 400 it's a mongoose bike so it's budget but this bike itself i'll leave it linked down below i think you can only buy it from walmart this came out in august of 2021. like right when i made this build and bought this bike it was like brand new and the advantage of that is this is like a new generation bike so for only being 400 bucks it's a full suspension mountain bike now the suspension components were really low quality but the point is the frame had potential and that's the whole thing when you're buying an e-bike kit and making this whole diy essentially electric motorcycle you're going to be changing out all the parts so like the suspension i already fully changed out and now it's very high quality but the bike frame is what allowed me to do that i'm just going to run this red light no big deal so you're going to need a solid bike frame i would recommend full suspension if you're going to be going high powered because hitting a pothole at 30 miles an hour is really uncomfortable there's some pretty solid fat tire e-bikes on amazon that do not have full suspension and that's probably the second best choice because the fat tires act as suspension they absorb a lot of the bumps so that could also be a solid way to go the only issue or it's not an issue but point of concern that i have with this bike is the dropouts that hold the hub motor in place because this is an aluminum frame and it has to hold on to that powerful axle of the 2000 watt motor so that's why i have two steel torque arms and that's probably good enough but i think i'm going to modify it in the future just to really hold it in place because aluminum is a weak metal so the axle could break free out of the dropout and that's just what i want to avoid in the future so far there's no evidence of that happening but it's just something to note okay by touching on price now as i mentioned i got this off of alibaba and the hub motor kit with the controller was around 250 bucks and the same thing off of amazon is around 500 and it's literally the exact same product you do have advantages with amazon because it's like fast two day shipping and you can return it within 30 days but if you're building a custom bike to save money go straight to the supplier alibaba and you can get it for a much cheaper price and the 72 volt 20 amp hour battery i got off of alibaba again for i think five six hundred bucks and this is a solid battery i think the same thing on amazon is closer to eight hundred to a thousand dollars so all in my e-bike kit along with the battery was about 800 850 bucks i had to wait a month for shipping and the bike frame was 400 because of course i bought the bike brand new but i did end up spending more money because when it comes to a custom diy e-bike you're constantly going to be changing things out on it and that's one of the things i like about a custom ebike is how modular it is so the brakes for example i had to buy these these were about 60 bucks the suspension as i mentioned i upgraded and that was about 200 i'm going to be changing the tires soon so that's about 50 60 i bought a new seat that's very comfortable that was about 30 bucks i had to get a new heavy duty kickstand that was about another 20 dollars so there is other stuff that adds up when you make a custom diy e-bike and if you're currently deciding between a 52 volt and a 72 volt system i have to say i have been extremely pleased with the 72 volt system i know it's more expensive but again you can save money if you go to the supplier on alibaba instead of the huge markup on amazon and the 72 volt nature just makes the bike so much more peppy and fun and that's kind of the whole point of an electric bike the instant torque and power and a lot of that comes from the high voltageness of the battery i have to get over yeah so i definitely recommend a 72 volt system if you're looking to do a diy e-bike because there's kind of no point of making a low-powered diy e-bike if you're going to do this you got to go all out yeah so i'll go ahead and leave most of the parts that i use and upgraded and bought for this bike link down below so you guys can check it out and they're not going to be affiliate links by any means they're just going to be the major parts that i use like the shock in the back i'll leave the bike itself linked down below the the motor the battery if my brakes the handlebars even that was like 30 bucks so there is a lot of stuff you spend money on and i'll leave links to all of them down below so you can get a feel for the kind of stuff that you might want to be upgrading this is what it's all about this is why we have an e-bike moments like this and i'm not spending money on gas that's that's huge gas is approaching like four dollars a gallon absolutely insane and this is just so much more efficient man i might still get an uh saron eventually maybe next spring maybe try to sell this bike as i mentioned i do love this bike and i've been upgrading it and it's almost perfect and by the time i go to sell it it will be perfect but uh it's just so much fun i want to try more bikes because i've never had a pre-built system i just had my diy so i think it'll be pretty fun to use and i mean the one downside of this bike the the mongoose frame bike is that it is full suspension but the rear suspension the shock only has 35 millimeters of travel now that equates to more like 100 millimeters of travel when it comes to total suspension travel because of the geometry of the bike what the you doing chill bra geez but uh yeah the sauron in comparison i love the suspension on it the front and back have eight inches of travel and even this 100 millimeters of travel makes a huge difference versus a hard tail no suspension bike so i feel like the surround is going to be just a pleasure to ride the only thing with the suron is that it's a 60 volt system my custom e-bike is 72 volts so it's actually going to be a downgrade but you know it's not all about the voltage i will admit that what the hell is that you think i can catch up to that three-wheeled monstrosity let's try to catch up to it what the hell is it and we're gonna do a slow drive-by oh gosh whoo if you guys have any more questions on uh e-bikes and custom builds and just want to pick my brain a little bit after making this build leave a comment and i will see the comment and i will reply to the comment so yeah i'm pretty passionate about this i think this is a movement this is the future of personal transportation a believer it's a big deal but if you guys still watching enjoyed the video like subscribe on that youtube stuff i greatly appreciate it okay bruh do you see me okay he sees me but uh yeah i'm gonna go now see you [Music] you
