WF-1000XM4 = INCREDIBLE | Only 2 Problems....

hey i'm tom uh you're watching sony 365. these are the wf-1000xm4s not to be confused with the wh-1000 mx4s which are the overhead models these are brand new and my goodness they are very very very tasty if you love sony make sure you hit subscribe and why not smash the like button and the notification bell and all that stuff as well i'm going to tell you why i think these are worth your time and money i don't know why i said time i mean just what i'm trying to say is buy them and i'll tell you why now if you want really really beautifully executed videos well rehearsed perfectly scripted without any mistakes marcus brownies got you covered what i'm going to do is give you a bit of heart on the sleeve stuff and tell you why these are really worth getting excited about and i want to start off by talking about the music the sound quality this brings the music alive for you've got to bear in mind obviously these are true wireless it would be unfair to compare them to um the very best kind of audio fire wired stuff but these my goodness they pack a mighty punch to put it into some context yes design wise this is a big improvement over in my opinion over the xm3s they're more felt in fact every single thing that we had in our the three videos we did in the run-up to the launch of these um every single aspect we had pretty much bang on about these um every key area there's an improvement here over the previous generation including the way they look and the way they sound in terms of the way they sound i want to manage expectations if you're coming from xm3s they're slightly better i wouldn't want to go further than that but they genuinely are in terms of noise cancelling i think they're even more aggressive than the predecessors that we've got here in the studio yeah i mean they are they they are it's impressive they've done that but the battery life is still absolutely sound as a pound um eight hours per you know single use of charge and you get another 16 hours from the casey the case they've managed to bring the size down so much um you know i've always been on the go especially the last well until kovid where i was stuck in the jungle more or less uh in panama uh where i've been pretty much until i got to uh until to miami for someone like me who lives out of a rucksack a lot of the time these are just incredible they're so small and so svelte and the case the whole package now is so compact but without sacrificing any quality increasing the quality yeah you can probably hear the enthusiasm in my voice this is this is one of the best products i think sony's ever made and i'm absolutely thrilled to have these uh these are gonna stay with me a very very long time it's actually difficult to think how um sony can improve these dramatically but they're not perfect there is one key way and i've seen this actually in the build up to these products until this coming out there's one key thing missing and that's multi-point bluetooth which i'm not sure why it's been omitted and i i i suppose if i i have to be critical here i don't just want to say good things about this although i mean living with these has been a pleasure and i'll go into a bit more detail in a second and there's just one more thing i would say in terms of the earphones that have fit me most snugly over the years i get the best fit from a bose it's those wings the way they're designed there it twists in and i feel confident i haven't managed to shake these out of my ears at any point over the last what's it been now uh nine ten days i haven't managed to shake them out equally you can't really i mean i'm this is concrete so but yeah the lid's gonna break this is beautifully engineered but i wish i had that feeling of just perfect fit confidence that i i get with the bows i prefer the noise cancelling on these i prefer the sound quality on these it's just those two things would make it perfect in my opinion but now let's go into a little bit more detail on some of the individual aspects at play here i obviously want to say the ipx4 um water there resistance is for me that was one of the key things missing so before had the xm3s and then the 700 can't remember the names for the gym now i just need these guys i couldn't be happier about that again traveling around the world is easier when you can minimalize like that so yes while it was just a psychological thing i thought you know are these definitely definitely definitely in they didn't fall out as i say but sony's app really does help you get the perfect fit uh in in a huge amount of detail actually i wasn't expecting to have my ears scanned quite the way that they were but yes there's two ways of cancelling out the noise there's the active very very clever you know v1 powered um super smart stuff happening there inside but there's also the quality of these new foam tips but you've got to get the seal absolutely right and if you do then you have the best of both happening and then you are absolutely in that sweet spot of yeah you're going to enjoy using these the other thing is that compared with the xm3s the cool quality we thought this would be a big improvement and it is a big improvement with igor's airpods pros i think it's fair to say they are on a level now with the airpods airpod pros is that am i saying that right uh we've cleared that up chord quality is excellent um no one is thinking at the other end of the phone hey what you know what happened to the sound there are you talking to me on headphones no they sound absolutely great call quality is improved sound quality is improved it's difficult to find fault with these i think where what it comes down to here is are these the last word in sound quality for true wireless in-ear buds no they get very close so close in fact that i mean it's the law of diminishing returns isn't it sure you have to spend a lot more money to get the ultimate ultimate sound um and there are other sacrifices that you have to make whether it's in terms of battery quality support the quality of the app that accompanies the hardware and when you think about all of those things holistically and then factor in the value i mean these are about 50 bucks more than last year's models model but it's worth that extra in my opinion because the battery life is solid the sound is super super super good without okay maybe not stratospheric but way past competent and impressive that's for sure the levels of noise cancellation you know in terms of moving it to ambient full noise cancellation yeah it just works incredibly well i've enjoyed testing it out on the streets of miami and have been shocked at how precise and how aggressive the the cancellation is there of the noise it's the first time you go out and try these it is going to be a little bit like wow yeah when you factor in the app as well the setup uh how fast these connect with your device i mean put it this way i'm going to sum up by saying this if you're lucky enough to have these in your life and the new xperia one mark iii which i may or may not have yeah and of course maybe one of these i mean you know if if this was running english and i didn't have to kind of translate everything from japanese and i had this and the one mark iii had those three things together i would feel like one of the luckiest people on earth actually yeah this is this is actually a good time to be a sony fan an xperia fan sony doesn't get everything right but when they smash it out the part like this we can all feel good about it so well done sony these are definitely sony 365 recommended i'm not going to show compare these with everything out there but i did want to show you the comparison between these two because the er 700 um it's a similar overall design which is what we knew way back when we first saw the leaks of visa you know quite a few months ago now but it's amazing how they've engineered these to be so small this is like a shrunken down super elegant version of these and i have to obviously these are 10 times more expensive as well or whatever i don't know five my math is bad but it's impressive the engineering that's taken place here ah i'm into these products very much i love the fact that the the gestures the taps there everything works basically 100 of the time they're customizable as well yeah it this is all shaping up very very nicely also 360 reality audio um it's a fine line isn't it between gimmick and really really useful i i get that kind of criticism that's been out there also the criticism that there isn't a lot of content out there that is in that format that will obviously improve as time goes on but i have to say the first time you give it a proper trial it will impress you i mean it well it certainly impressed me decent quality music it works very very well unsurprisingly if you're using the best possible stuff title whatever yeah incredible absolutely as you'd expect all this tech works flawlessly but interestingly enough i think the the most interesting thing here interesting interesting interesting interestingly enough if you were to play some let me just think of something that um like this italian romance thing which i recommend if you're having a romantic dinner uh with your girlfriend uh boyfriend any friend you know anyway enough of that just play this italian music here it's fantastic it's not the highest quality but that's where dse ultimate kicks in and levels up uh the audio quality very convincingly actually there's a lot of very smart technology at play here and i i don't really like going into that too much because that's the specs tell you what it is the question is is it good or not and the answer is an overwhelming yes god these are really good to live with and i think the people who demand the absolute best of the best of the best will quite rightly be able to say ah but you know master and dynamic are bowers yeah of course there are going to be if you just hone in on that one thing but you're going to sacrifice in the other areas and because the gains are minimal in my humble opinion anyway it's not worth making those sacrifices for the tiny amount of gain in audio quality because i don't want to lose the app all the things that bring this together and make it work it's too convincing a package when you look at it holistically so yeah this is a win we don't do five stars we don't do star systems at all i don't know if we should should we do that eagle on the yeah maybe if we did star systems and stuff this would be a five star [Music] product i've put this together in miami um because i'm on my way back to the united kingdom uh i will be there by the time you see this a little bit held out there because uh the um the cover jab set me back a few days there had a bit of a wobble there um but i'm feeling good and the the one mark iii stuff i expect will be coming to you from london but the game plan here if you're
