this was a complete and total surprise [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] huh [Music] so [Music] so i actually just realized that i have not showed you guys our chicken tractor and it is a almost finished product the only thing that i think i'm gonna do is we might put some type of hydraulic lift on the door or my husband is thinking about actually making it a slide door versus a lift drawer uh i think it's going to be a lot easier it's definitely a hefty chicken tractor the total size is a 10 by 12 and as of right now we took joel salatin's design and then obviously kind of made it a little bit more custom for what we decided to do with it we made it a little hardier mainly because we do have predator here and if i were to also move it into our pasture where we keep our livestock i don't have to worry too much about our livestock messing up the chicken tractor and possibly damaging it so this is our first go-around using it and it's been pretty good we got our chickens from mcmurray hatchery and they are definitely some hearty birds they are loving the grass we're moving our chickens once a day and they are definitely gaining some weight i got to show you guys these piglets they are getting so big come on [Music] come [Music] our piglets are growing like weeds we did go ahead and start the process of separating just to give mom a little bit of a break she has 10 piglets that's a lot of piglets and she is nursing all of them and doing a really good job so we are giving her a break and starting to see and make sure all the piglets are gaining weight appropriately eating food on their own drinking on their own and this is kind of our task to make sure everybody is good to go but here in the next couple of weeks we are gonna start advertising uh some of our piglets to see if anybody in our area might be interested in a few i know that i am i'm actually gonna keep uh two girls as of right now to put back into our breeding they look good they are hearty and who doesn't love a piglet i mean but they're do you hear them they are so stinking cute [Music] now we have them separated out into a little pin right now which i am anticipating getting ready to rotate some of our other pigs into our big wooded larger pasture area mama is getting ready to be moved over as well we just wanted to make sure that she is good to go before we go ahead and put her back in with the other big pigs i don't want to add her into the big pigs quite yet because i want her to have a good couple of months probably a good couple of months before we actually let her breed again but that really depends on her body and how well she thickens up i don't want to put any stress on her that's not needed [Music] okay okay so i know that i've kind of strung you guys along and did a whole farm mini tour just to kind of show you our normal routine that we do every day here on the farm but there's something that we just can't believe happen i'm still trying to figure out how is this possible but without further ado i'm just i'm gonna show you i don't even know how to explain it come on let's go see [Music] hey so so that was not planned at all and was a complete and total surprise and because we're transparent and we do youtube i there's a story that we gotta share with you guys so let's start with yesterday i was in the house cleaning and yeah i was outside doing the animals i was driving liam wall the side of the side over to go feed the animals with the um cattle buckets and stuff and i look over and i just see like this little brown thing that looks like one of our goats and i'm like oh that's weird the goats awfully following that one cow wait the goat's over there though who is that and then i was like oh shoot that's a baby cow sorry i'm going and i'm like mom there's a baby cow i didn't believe him i literally was like shush you know like stop messing with me okay cause like i was not prepared at all and i thought he was joking i was like you're joking you know i'm trying to get the house clean i got dinner to cook like no first off how is that even possible okay we don't have a bowl that is old enough no we don't have a bowl that's old enough one two she wasn't supposed to be bred and three did somebody sneak a baby cow in our field or did a bull get into our field that didn't belong so i'm sitting here like i'm i'm at this point i like throw on his shoes which are like six times too big for me i am hauling butt into this field to be like what the heck are you talking about so i come running in and sure enough there's this sweet little baby face that is right next to mama mama just cast this baby like literally just kept this baby maybe like two hours not even i mean not even and so it dawns on me that she she had the baby so i'm looking at my husband and i'm like okay this is not possible we look back at our our notes we actually purchased this longhorn cow with her calf back in march the calf was only about three or four months old and we're we're trying to do the math in our head and i didn't we're trying to do the math in our head and then we realized that she had that calf like december her first half december so she must have been bred like right after like the month after like january because that would put her due date to right now so as a very responsible cow owner i have to say that she did not show any signs at all nothing she didn't look like she had a big fat belly no she didn't look like nothing she didn't have an utter baby she didn't oh my gosh so she didn't have an otter she didn't show anything the only thing that i could say was last like over the weekend i looked at her and i was like oh you know her backside's you know maybe she's coming into heat sure enough baby cow we were not expecting that at all but on the good note um everything went well she obviously didn't need any of our assistance which is like thank goodness because i feel a little bit irresponsible that i didn't know she was not supposed to be bred again we purchased her with her calf already her steer her steer calf already and that was a total surprise surprise surprise baby cow baby cow surprise yeah never really had that before we never had a baby goat surprise yeah we've had baby goat surprise not like not not a baby cow and i'm pretty good like i was telling my friend amy fuel um that you know i am like normally to the tea like i know when our animals are you know when we breed them when they're due i know i make sure that they get all the nutrients our pastures are really full of rich nutritious grass not only that we we did just start giving them hay just to kind of you know have that in there as a supplement and then we do offer minerals and mineral blocks that are here on hand they have shelter they have green grass i mean they literally have the best life that we could possibly give them i don't think we told them what it was yet let's go look oh yeah [Music] and the part to top it all off that makes it even more special it's a girl so we have a brand new baby girl added to her pastor and i am pretty positive that we are actually going to keep her so if you guys have any name ideas go ahead and just let me know down in the comment below we're gonna let her chill out and be with her baby and i gotta go take care of the rest of the animals thank you guys for watching and as always don't be afraid to get your hands dirty and learn something old [Music] you
