We Made Three Commercials in 48 Hours

we brag about being the most flexible F production company in Oslo Norway but is that true to see how effective we really are we decide to split our crew into three different teams each with a task to create the best possible commercial for a brand new merch in only 48 hours but here's the catch each team has to pick certain amount of gear will it go for the best cameras the best lights or does money help if you don't have a good story well let's figure out in this video this has been a tough shoot he7 yes okay they're cheating we need to call someone now it's tomorrow yeah there's no way to predict what they're going to make I'm overthinking here now they're going to be stressed out I think I might have slightly misjudged how long time it would take let the games [Music] begin the teams can choose between six different categories for the cameras we have the Canon C300 Mark III the Sony A1 and oh the GH4 cool GH4 for lenses we have the Fantastic Cinema Prime package with d o vit primes the legendary Sigma 18 to35 mm lens and oh a wild card the laba 100 mm macro lens how can you even yeah okay well next category for lights we have today's star of the show the small rig RC 60b small rig is sponsoring the video with these flexible lights that can output 60 FL light in a small and light form Factory we already used this lamp for some shoots and they work great it has a built-in battery but it can also be powered by PD Power Banks and vmount batteries through USBC they are by color and produce natural colors for lighting we have three different choices from small rig again each team can only pick one item or package from each category when something is picked it cannot be picked by another team for camera rigs we have the tripod small rig free Blazer heavy duty carbon fiber tripod the other choice is the small rig free rower tripod or you can choose a shoulder rig then we have the Michel Angeles M Michelangelo oh sorry miscellaneous sorry we are Norwegians so some words are a bit hard then we have miscellaneous where you can choose Emma the studio aan smoke machine small HD monitor or the zoom H5 sound recorder each team can choose two of these during the show and last but not least each team will get a budget which they can spend on anything regarding their shoots that's the money yeah c00 lots of money okay then we're good they can't use their own money so this might be crucial if they want actors crew use some travel expenses candy and such okay let's start the teams randomly picked who was going to start we got two okay so we are first Kim only the first thing we talked about we both agreed lights lights yes we are Arch by accident we knew that lights is something we both care a lot of especially since we went to film school together we KN know that light is important so light is everything I feel like um definitely should we do camera first yeah for us it's no it's no yeah we're definitely getting the C300 we are the merch monkey no okay sorry I was we are merch monkeys I think our commercial is going to be the best because our style is pretty cool and I think we're going to have a fun vibe to it yeah yeah we want to go for a camera too maybe mhm we are team eiders I love the A1 cameras it can shoot both photos and videos and yeah it's a great to on camera so I think that's a really good choice for us oh did G4 I know I I said on the YouTube channel that GH4 is the best the footage is amazing was it good or is it still good that's the question though but I believe it should be still good it's all about story we need if if you can find out a good story for video no one will think about the quality of the video what if you don't choose to jge for now because we're going to get it either way we go for the another one yes I was thinking about either the money m i mean yes no yeah reverse psychology I don't know no but money so when went straight for the money and then we could have the best lights and the best actor I just really wanted the highest amount of money yeah I mean we have to go for the money as well money yeah yeah nice I'm thinking about the lenses [Music] okay do you agree with the [Music] lens okay let's I can't believe we got the macro lens you think you can work with that no no no there's no way but let's do something else um we were thinking about Emma yeah they the monitor monitor G4 does not have image stabilizer we need a triod let's do the [Music] vent this is like Christmas e yeah can I guess we take to the [Music] lens and here is the final equipment list for each team are you satisfied yeah I think we did some good choices let the games begin let the games begin right go go [Music] go let's look at actors yeah we need an actor we have the most money we can actually hire an actor we need to call someone now it's tomorrow I'll callia from uh the Distance movie H she will me now in 10 minutes I think it's super stupid because it's going to take so much time it's going to take a lot of editing as well yeah I think our project is is quite ambitious so it can be really bad or it can it be really good so M and I actually designed this merch we really need to make sure that our commercial is the best and you guys can actually buy it right now it's on our website we have T-shirts we have sweaters everything make sure you check it out I can't believe we got the macro lens but I don't know if that's allowed but we do have the money so what if we just rent a different lens yeah we could go for this one 1835 dco yeah I'll book it here okay so I got the key for the van Y and now we should just hurry up to get the like the cool product shots in the forest be done with that today so we can focus on uh shooting people tomorrow tomorrow yeah yeah boom y okay oh the gas come on it's on red Martin did that on purpose he's sabotaging us we have to use our budget to fill use our gold coins to fill gas I guess come on oh that sucks okay guess we just have to do it [Music] y I think art by accident they're going to fall in a trap of like trying to tell a story knowing on N there's probably going to be a storyline involved what if the four icons represent each season what about the story is that we follow an actress what if this is happening in her head you could represent chaos in the background we see a lot of Lance and is chaos and then we use this as the abstract world with icons or maybe she gets the sweater on sets this this sounds boring this may be friendship maybe discipline progress goal goal yeah what did they say in the beginning we have to hurry up okay let's go yeah I like this we also have the nice tree to like hang the the wire in yeah it's a high paced fashion film with some odd quirky moments yeah vintage Vibes it's a little bit windy good [Music] fight what else come about man good that looks very [Music] crazy okay so it's getting really dark we really have to just push through this has been a tough shoot we got some cool stuff I think so uh yeah we'll see day one done I think it turned out I think we got we got lots of different shots which is good cuz we need variety all right let's go back and plan day two [Music] yeah so after the pre-production on the first day I was just so sick my head was exploding just not feeling very well okay it's getting late we're shooting tomorrow I'm overthinking here now what if the four icons represent each season you could represent chaos or maybe she gets the sweater onet I'm I'm I have mixed feelings tomorrow I I'm not sure if I've been like thinking too much about this today that I'm just confused it's getting late now I had to go to bed so I woke up with just a terrible migraine Morton was already sick in them I'm feeling bad and this is going to be a long day my so I had this idea of doing like a match cut video with the logo at the center I think that' be cool but I think it's also a very stupid idea because going to take a long time and for a 48 hour challenge it's probably a really stupid idea yeah this is the opening scene it's video and then we're going into the match cut right from this position so right now we're trying to use the small HD monitor to take some screenshots that we can overlay so that we can shot match properly we need to spend a lot of time taking a lot of photos and it's just going to be like 2 seconds of final video so not that good of an idea when you're on a time limits so after an hour or so looking at a photos I can see that they were slightly out of focus so we decided to steal our behind the scene cameraman's uh lens so we used about half our budget on that [Music] lens yeah it's surprisingly a lot of light in this little guy maybe just 1% yeah and at 1% this light can stand like this m with the internal battery for 6 hours oh so we are in no hurry I think we have [Music] it hi good to hi we're so happy you could join I'm so happy to be here yeah okay uh let's just quickly go through the idea so our story or concept that the symbols represent different aspects of someone creating something we want to go from character being a little bit un motivated turn into being motivated and I think that's the story we had to kind of find a way to explain all this she was a bit confused in this at the beginning okay and it's like aimed at creative people it's not like very serious like oh my husband's left me it's more I don't know what to do with this project right yes okay yeah yeah okay it looked better than I thought the sweater it's just it's just because of the model you know let's go t merch monkeys merch monkeys ready you have everything let's go merch monkeys I think they're both very thorough in all they do it's going to be interesting to see if they're actually going to finish on time M Matas and marus they would be so focused on detail yeah they're going to be so picky on everything they're going to be stressed out I think I think they're a strong team if they're able to pull it off I think they might be the favorites everything looks cool with this lens maybe you can sit down in the shop cuz then we have some more act yeah like that that's cool and let's go so today we're doing some outside shots but we really don't have anything planned we're just going to [Music] wait okay oh that's [Music] really okay Kim you can use this small rig 450d outside shooting in we try to create some shapes with it it's nice with the haste and stuff [Music] yeah I was a little bit nervous about the GH4 and I didn't even even know it was still working so but we turned it on and and I was positively surprised when we shot with the j4 and we put up the lights and we we put up the camera and everything was ready I was like oh yes this is actually going to look quite good I can shoot with C like d it's like a really low contrast it's easier to color grade but I can't see how it looks with the L I think I'm going to shoot with a standard picture profile because and I can see it looks good on camera and we don't need to colorate it too much I think that's quite good we just need some Haze or [Music] V just look straight into the camera okay I think we're getting some cool stuff [Music] man look at [Music] that how many smoke CLS do you have in your home I did not realize we had smoke alarms in every room even in inside the Shelf there was a so we had to use some time running around finding all of them it was absolutely freezing oh it was so cold I had four layers of clothes the wind just pierced [Music] through I I don't think I've ever been that cold in my life I was fine in my bit jacket but I'm so glad I didn't have to take it out let's go for the next shot basement shot trying to shake the lights good toilet paper flag that's it yeah good stuff works low budget this is low budget we just use what we have so I just found things in the basement like my rope and stuff to to kind of create shapes with the light it's just it's just giving the light some structure it looks a bit silly as long as you don't have a client on set use whatever you have like toilet paper and stuff and then uh we have a little bit of kick uh backlight from the small rig RC 60b there's something interesting about it just keeping it as it is but using the lights to to make us focus on certain [Music] areas great good job I can't hear anymore we're all very cold so we were thinking about buying hot chocolate $4 yeah so this is the love budget lunch it's quite nice at this we have hot chocolate hot chocolate [Applause] there oh it was so nice Donuts hot chocolate with lots of cream perfect lunch [Music] yeah so now we're out round two now we're going to be shooting in the city it's about 1:00 p.m. right now we had the idea of uh doing uh like a zooming with lens so we zoomed in and did the focusing at the same time on this small little [Music] screen now we're at the last location which is in downtown Oslo we only have like half an hour left of daylight so we need to hurry up [Music] you think we have enough of the day shots now yeah we should probably get back and start editing maybe uh yeah before the night shoot so we have some things we don't have to sit all night editing yeah let's do it y it's a w very good job thank you so much oh a [Music] oh yeah good I think that's a refers it's a ref now it's just to go back and edit everything yeah I have a sinus infection and Maria has a migraine yeah great I tried to get some work done I looked at the video footage that we shot and found some music I felt really bad leaving Morton all by himself so early I I was just so dead just having some gaps that we need to fill not quite knowing what to fill with why why do technical problems this is so frustrating yeah so I was starting to wonder about the merch monkeys like when are they going to edit this I don't understand how they will finish this on [Music] time so we didn't have too much money left but I asked SRE if he was available for a couple of hours but luckily since he's a good friend he said yes to do it within our [Music] budget it's now 1:00 a.m. I might have slightly misjudged how long time it would take to fix all this I can't quit now yeah 12 hours to go until the deadline eating some painkillers here and just trying to keep going because it's going to be a long [Music] night the hours were flying by my head was exploding but I was determined to finish all the stabilizing before I went [Music] home we are almost finished we're doing the grading now I think we'll be all right some just playing around just testing out stuff sometimes again art by accident we just test out stuff and suddenly you see something that works I think we're getting close now we have so much footage in so many locations like I don't know how we're going to finish this on time 30 minutes left will we make it I know why I hope so I hope so it might not be perfect though we are all set the deadline is closing in so they better hurry up Kim and I we wanted the cinema yeah you didn't have to manually stabilize 1,500 images went to bed at 10:00 yesterday wake up late well Morton and I we put our Blood Sweat and Tears into this commercial we didn't have time to go to the cinema just a few minutes now oh they're coming we did it done finally done 2 minutes before the deadline now we can also show who's the best filmmakers here uhoh uhoh not going to end well for you guys [Music] hi hi Engish yeah we are AR by accident so we have a have a video that is uh it is a bit abstract but there's also something going on in it you feel there's something happening it's a slow kind of slow paced uh video I feel like yeah which uh we like bright flashing by the street lights keep waiting till you've arve let it [Music] un let it [Music] unfall give me a reason to feel right I keep waiting for the Morning Light I let let him fall let him fall you need to give me something I can't hold on [Music] to I sleep through the night after [Music] all [Music] [Music] so here's our film hopefully you enjoy it it's a high paced fashion film little bit fun little bit quirky hope you enjoy it challenge all the three videos were great I'm I'm impressed to see what we can do in 48 hours it's crazy it was a lot of fun uh and interesting to see how different uh people approach the same task
