We Love Orangutans - "Babysitter Coordinator, Sri Rahayu"

My name is Sri Rahayu. I am from Central Borneo. I am babysitter coordinator, I organize my friends and the orangutans. Let's go, Adil! I currently manage 80 orangutans that are in the cages at the clinic. Please be patient. Every day I help the babysitters open the cages so the orangutans can go to forest school. Then I help escort the older orangutans. Faridah! Let's go! Where’s that wrench I had earlier? Now we will escort group 1 and 2 to the forest school. Here, we help them learn how to essentially be orangutans. To be independent, collect wild fruit, be aware of their surroundings, and recognize threats… Ouch! You’re biting me… threats, such as snakes. We do this to help them understand that the fruit is up in the trees. They learn to find the fruit themselves up in the trees and that way become less dependent on the fruit that we provide. Go on! This way! Juliet is an active orangutan. Sometimes she climbs very high and makes a nest. Even though her nests still need some work, she is trying very hard already. I take great pleasure in seeing that the orangutans that we raise can be released back to where they belong.
