Water is life for the animals of Zimbabwe's Hwange National Park

[Music] hello everybody greetings from the iconic wangan national park the largest protected area in zimbabwe covering some 1.4 million hectares it is world renowned for its huge elephant population and other bridge biodiversity that is important for zimbabwe and the region at large [Music] we find our conservation activities from tourism related activities and it has been affected heavily we were forced to close for the better part of the year due to covert 19. proving 19 has really affected the work supporting this iconic biodiversity about 2020 has been a very productive year in a number of conservation efforts and i'm excited with the progress and the milestones that we achieved in the last year through our partnership with zinpax from a strategic perspective we decided to enhance general game water management within the park there's a big demand for water resources because rankin national park is no natural water supply we find animals struggling to drink especially in the dry season over time the impacts of climate change is a real concern it's the dry season in zimbabwe but park officials say this year it's much hotter and drier than usual more than 200 have perished so far in this unprecedented drought so it has been a challenge to provide water for the animals most of the gay mothers that we supplied is true artificial bombing we don't know whether the pumping regime is depleting the natural water so it is of concern to us [Music] [Applause] [Music] a catching point is yamato of penn yamanov ben is one of the attractive centers in terms of tourism where people always come to view animals [Music] but over time the pain has suited up full of mud this has significantly reduced the water holding capacity hence the need to remove the mud [Music] a pen is last been a scoop 25 to 30 years ago [Music] we are looking forward to have the dam scooped this will reduce the cost in terms of plumbing and also increase the water holding capacity for the pen to sustain it throughout the dry season as we implement the project we make sure that the contractors are employing local people from the communities so that they become part of the development of the park it is a pleasure to see ifo working with zoom parks trying to fix our pain having lots of water it will be good for the animals and also for the tourists to have a good viewing safari so enhancing the park product building some form of sustainable finance mechanism for the park from tourism [Music] is just one in many of his pens and we'll be looking at other innovative ways to enhance game water management within the park the judo looking after our animals needs a lot of people on board this partnership to us means a lot it was like what the doctor has ordered i'm excited with the future of our mission in zimbabwe and i think it will go a long way in securing this iconic park this iconic wildlife that are so dear to us and i look forward to this continued partnership and delivering on the work that is close to our hearts and close to the passion that we all share for the good of animals and the people [Music] [Applause] [Music]
