[Music] today we have five of the most popular trim levels on the Toyota Tacoma and in this video we're going to talk about the differences between them and which one you should probably buy toward the lower end of the spectrum we have this Tacoma SR5 this is not the very most based model which is the SR but it is toward the bottom of what most people are going to spec and on this you do have a lot of options of how you want to configure the truck you can either get an extra cab or a double cab and you can get a five or a 6ft bed this truck also comes standard two wheel drive but for $3,200 you can spec it with four-wheel drive as well and under the hood we have the 2.4 L inline 4-cylinder turbo making 278 horsepower and 317 lb feet of torque because this isn't the very most base model you do get a few extras over the Sr namely you get coil springs in the rear as opposed to Leafs which is a nice upgrade as you would expect the interior on this SR5 is fairly basic so we have cloth seats we have not a ton of features although you can spec a few things with this truck's interior so ours right here has heated seats which is nice to have we have autoclimate control we even have a heated steering wheel and we have a JBL audio system which includes the flex speaker here in the dash that you can pull out and you can use when you're out and about to bring your tunes outside of the truck so this is not the most basic version of an SR5 you get and it does show some of the options that you can configure this truck with but that's going to cost you a couple thousand doar if you go down that road so if you want to keep it as basic as possible you can do without some of those [Music] options moving up through the lineup we have this TRD sport now if you don't know this is the more Street version of this TRD Tacoma so it's not the TRD off-road that we'll look at in a second but it has some extra styling elements added to it like this hood scoop but we still have this chin here at the bottom of the bumper for aerodynamics and these trucks are still going to start as two wheel drive vehicle so again 3200 bucks if you want to opt for four-wheel drive on one of these TRD Sports and this truck is only going to give you the double cab option so there's no extra cab leg you can get on some of the more base models but you can still choose between a five and a 6t bed and on these trucks you can also pick quite a few more options on the interior items such as a six-speed manual transmission this bigger 14-in screen in the center and the sunroof above me are all things that you can spec out on this higher trim level vehicle as well as the leather type seats that you see here but this interior is still relatively basic although we do have a lot of the amenities that were spec on the SR5 we were just looking at so we still have heated seats we still have a heated steering wheel but this truck also has ventilated seats as well as of course a lot more technology like the TRD sport you can tell a TRD Offroad by some of its special styling cues so the TRD sport has special TRD Wheels well so does this TR off-road and it's also got these BFG allterrain tires that are a little bit more aggressive unlike the TRD sport though we don't have the chin on this model because it is more off-road focused and four-wheel drive is standard on the TRD off-road as you would expect both the TRD Sport and the TRD off-road can be had with a premium package that is $8,800 it's hugely expensive and if you opt for that package you get basically all of the options now our truck that we owned as a company did not have that package which saved us a bunch of money but it meant we had a pretty basic interior this one's interior is much nicer so we have nicer seat materials we have a lot more features the bigger screen that we saw before again heated and ventilated seats and heated steering wheel a lot more technology so if you do opt to select that package you are going to get a lot more amenities a lot more features but you got to be willing to pay for it you also get some extra off-road goodies along the interior including this rear locker and you also have crawl control which are both really nice to have and you can spec a sway bar disconnect you do also get a few extra Hardware goodies underneath including a small skid under the fuel tank and one under the oil pan and this TR off-road has its own special [Music] shocks moving up now into the upper end of the Tacoma lineup we have the limited which as Andre calls it is the Lexus of Toyota Tacomas and these you can get with either the standard gas motor or you can get it with a hybrid powertrain kind of like the TRD off-road as well and all of these are going to be four-wheel drive if you get the hybrid you can also get a full-time four-wheel drive system which is a really nice feature to have although if you want to do some serious crawling you're going to notice once again we do have one of these chin spoilers so you want to pull that off if you do want to go run some Trails but if you want a more premium looking truck this is going to be that because we've got a lot more bright work and this is just a generally more dressed up vehicle this being a luxury trim there aren't nearly as many optional things on this interior because they're mostly already here but there is one option that you in fact don't get a choice over and that's the fact that you can't spec this with a 6ft bed but this being just a standard limited not a hybrid we have still a part-time four-wheel drive system and because it's not an off-road model we don't have that sway bar disconnect or a rear locker but it is a more premium interior here and if that's what you want this is going to be the model to get one option you can spec on these limited trims is an Adaptive suspension system which adjusts the compression on the shocks based on the road surface that you driving over now I haven't had a chance to test that myself but Andre has and he said he didn't notice a ton of difference there but one other thing that you can get with this limited is this retractable step so if that is a consideration for you then maybe one of these limiteds is the way to [Music] go and now to the very top of the line This is the TRD Pro the big bad flag ship of the Tacoma lineup and this is using the iForce Max Hybrid powertrain so 326 horsepower 465 lbet of torque and yes you can spec this powertrain with a TR sport or TRD off-road or limited and you can also get it on the very cool new Trail Hunter trim but it is standard on this TRD Pro and these are all short beds all automatic and of course all four-wheel drive of course you also get a lot of off-road Hardware with the TRD Pro including these Goodyear Wrangler tires you've got special 18-in TRD Wheels you have aluminum upper control arms that are red and they're TRD branded you have Fox 2.5 in shocks you've got a more substantial front skid plate and of course a skid plate over the fuel tank so pretty serious gear on this and that's not even all from the inside you can see two of arguably the most important pieces of off-road gear we've got our sway bar disconnect and our rear Locker I do wish this truck offered a front Locker like the Jeep Gladiator or like the ranger Raptor some of the other really capable trucks in this category but Al last these are still good things to have we also have crawl control and then this interior of the five trucks that are sat here feels the most special by far even compared to the limited we have a lot of TRD branding here on the steering wheel here on the seat here on the shifter even on the start button so quite a bit that makes this interior feel unique including something that we have to look at on the back of these seats if you've been looking at the TRD Pro Tacoma you know very well what these are these are the isod dnamic seats that Toyota has put in place to give this truck a more comfortable ride on and Offroad and there's a lot of adjustment that you can make in these seats there's even some gauges here on the back there's different settings that you can put these seats into and these nozzles where you can fill up or let out some air but here's the thing the Tacoma and this I'm I have to beat this dead horse but the Tacoma already has a small back seat not a ton of leg room and that seat is where I would put it at 5' 10 so not that tall and trying to sit behind myself my feet can't really slide underneath the seat my knees are up against the back of the seat and you can tell obviously why there's a lot of vehicles that have small back seat areas but they kind of make up for it by scalloping the back of the seat to make as much out of the leg room as there possibly can be this seat look how thick from front to back it is so there goes the inches of leg room that you would have had so it's a sacrifice that you have to consider if you're going to get a model like this me personally if I was shopping for the Tacoma lineup I would actually lean toward one of the trail Hunter models which is ALS so just 1,000 bucks less expensive than this TRD Pro now I said at the beginning of this video that I would tell you which one of these trucks I would recommend for buying and for me it is the TRD off-road the same truck that we got for ourselves as a company because there's a lot of options that you can select on this truck if you want them or not you can get it with the hybrid but you don't have to and that hybrid system will pick you up a couple extra MPGs in the city more so than on the highway but really the main advantage of getting that system is getting the extra power and the extra torque also with this tierd off-road you can choose if you want to keep it a pretty basic interior if you want to have a manual transmission if you want to have a long bed or if you want to go a little bit more in the luxury direction and you want to have the nicer seats and the nicer stereo in the bigger screen so there's really a lot of options that you can pick with this truck and this is just a more affordable model because that TRD Pro it does bring a lot of extra features versus the previous generation TRD Pro but it's also quite a bit more expensive and that's also a consideration when you're driving a vehicle Offroad if it costs a lot of money you might not want to drive it as hard off-road this one I would have an easier time with my conscience taking this on some gnarlier trails so let me know what you all think down in the comments below which one of these models or one of the models that's not even here would you pick for your own Tacoma and that's all for this video we'll see you in the next
