[Music] hello and welcome to another video in our little things we love about series much of our channel is about small ship luxury cruising but don't let that lead you to believe we don't like the larger ships too in fact many of our most memorable cruisers have been on these giants and many have been with princess cruises the second largest cruise line by revenue in the world prior to the coveted pandemic of 2020 princess had a fleet of 18 ships upon resumption of sailing in 2021 that fleet had been reduced to just 13 with five ships being sold or transferred out of the company there are however three more brand new ships due to be launched over the next three years so it's not all bad news in fact it's very good news so why do we like princess cruises so much well here's 10 to miss it thank you princess love a party in fact they just about look for any excuse to have one especially in the piazza the ship's central atrium central to one of princess's signature evening do's is the champagne waterfall now you would think that champagne saucer pyramid was a conveniently glued together lump of glass that they wheeled out of a cupboard but it's not it's actually hand built every time with actual individual glasses um i wonder how many times an overexcited guest or an errant child has bumped into it rather too vigorously and well you know guests can opt to have a photo taken pouring the sparkly stuff over the fountain or like us choose instead to enjoy the complimentary champagne and mimosas that flow generously courtesy of the captain i'm sure he doesn't actually pay the barbell from these evenings [Music] [Applause] the champagne waterfall is almost as renowned as the other princess regular party favorite the balloon drop which although was enormous fun has now been shelved for environmental reasons and we heartily applaud princess for taking this step there's enough plastic waste in the oceans after all we generally believe that princess has outclassed almost every competitor with this next innovation their ocean medallion technology this fancy little disc shaped gadget is your key to unlocking much more than your stateroom door it unlocks a world of features and conveniences never before seen on any cruise line all by way of a clever track and trace system that was designed way before the horrific pandemic of the last year had any need for one princess have intricately hardwired a network of hundreds of sensors built into the ceilings throughout the ship that can identify where you are and when you were there sounds like a privacy nightmare only if you have something to hide darling features include being able to find other members of your family wherever they are on the ship which is really handy if you've got errant teenagers who are constantly late to family rendezvous you can order drinks and food via the medallions companion phone app and have them brought to you exactly where you are sitting and you can unlock your stateroom door as you approach without your hands and much much more no doubt in this post-covered world this brilliant tech will be absolutely invaluable in ways even princess haven't even thought of yet or perhaps they have one of the highlights of any cruise for helen and i is this speciality dining we like to try every single venue in fact we love them so much we video review princess ship the very top dining experience you can enjoy is the chef's table lumiere yes it's expensive but double yes it's an evening you'll not forget ever starting with a tour of the kitchen accompanied by some exquisitely crafted canapes and glass or two of champagne your evening just gets even better as you're seated around this beautiful table before the magical drapes draw around you enclosing you in an exclusive private cocoon the theater doesn't stop there as the head chef and the chief sommelier entertain you with the best dishes and wines you'll have all voyage served with a generous dash of flair if you've got the budget for it book it and don't forget to lay off the afternoon snacks beforehand you'll want to be hungry and your taste buds want to be raring to go we all know that entertainment is a subjective thing some people like comedians others find them as funny as a hernia some like jazz while others think it's no more than a random musical mess played by ex-art students one person's vivaldi is another person's vomit that's why then we love princesses entertainment it's just so varied there's something for absolutely everyone where on earth can you listen to a string quartet a beatles tribute act a broadway quality production and a jazz trio all in a single day and all for free [Music] to be perfectly honest we've yet to find another cruise line with such varied and talented artists our tip keep an eagle eye on the princess patter daily guide or you'll miss out on some of the best eagle eye see what i did there i'll get my goat [Applause] [Music] the princess fleet might have shrunk a bit due to the pandemic see my opening comment but that means an opportunity for modernization of the fleet and their current class of ships is the most impressive yet by the time they're finished princess will have six royal class ships in their fleet the first being royal princess launched in 2013 and the final one being discovery princess due to be launched later in 2021 give or take the odd details all royal class ships are essentially the same all royal class ships from sky princess onwards are medallion class which means the medallion technology is integral to their design and build in fact all princess ships since the 2021 restart are now medallion class after the rest of the fleet were retrofitted with the tech the design of the ships are easy on the eye are logically laid out and hold up to 3600 passengers which by today's standards is not overly huge despite this many people the ships never feel overcrowded and there are enough quiet areas to satisfy even the most introverted among us the princess dna is most definitely evident in these new ships with the familiar colour schemes of light woods cream floors accentuated with subtle flecks of colour from the light fittings and of course no princess ship would be complete without more gold flourishes than c-3po's spare parts wardrobe there are so many venues on board that will satisfy almost all your daily food cravings fancy ice cream sure craving some cake i'll direct you pizza well we'll come to that shortly but there's nothing quite like a proper cup of coffee if you love coffee that is i'm a dreadful coffee snob i simply won't drink week cheap or instant coffee unless my life depended on it and even then i'd probably pretend and pour it somewhere inconspicuous the international cafe is therefore a life saver many times a day it sells no it's not complimentary i'm afraid decent coffee and if you buy one using the prepaid coffee card you get a specialty tea thrown in hella much prefers tea in addition the food they offer here is not only free but changes during the day and it's all incredibly delicious back at breakfast on the go treat yourself to elevensies or a lunch panini succumb to an afternoon snack or three or satisfy those post-evening entertainment munchies the international cafe is a comfy oasis of caffeine and calories conveniently situated in the piazza so not only is it central to everything it's a great place to people-watch go on admit it you do that too don't you [Music] as far as entertainment goes it's not all live action singing dancing and instrument playing you know there's a stonking great screen situated slap bang in the middle of the ship up on deck and one of the most fun things you could do on a voyage if the weather's good is grab a bag of popcorn and lay on a sun bed that's been sympathetically converted with a head pillow and blanket and watch a big budget blockbuster film with a loved one and a beer or two honestly it sounds simple because it is simple but it's utterly heavenly is there nothing better if you're craving something savory and hunger satisfying than a slice of pizza no good job then that alfredo's is one specialty venue on the ship you don't have to pay for which means you can enjoy delicious authentically made pizzas every day if you want to without bashing your room account on top of that there's slice a pizza takeaway situated right in the middle of the two of the largest pools on the sundecks this was a very bad idea princess just how many pounds do you want me to put on over the course of my voyage this doesn't help mint doesn't help at all and i won't mention the ice cream kiosk opposite slice hmm can we sue for consistent and willful breach of willpower [Applause] okay i've singled out alfredo's and i've gushed over the chef's table lumiere but really when it all comes down to it there's just so much choice on board for speciality dining you'll agree with us the choice is wide and the food always hits the level up button in terms of quality and satisfaction we've never been disappointed and we've never thought of any of the premium venues as bad value there's far too much for me to say here but i believe we've put it perfectly in the dining guide i'll put a link to it at the end too finally there's one thing that princess is not short of and that's pools and hot tubs there's a pool to suit every mood from the playful family pools in the center of the ship where you can even watch the huge screen while wallowing to the small but perfectly demure wake pool at the back to the adult-only retreat pool towards the front for those quiet moments as for hot tubs these seem to be everywhere in the royal glass ships you'll always find a quiet one to have to yourself for the purposes of this video i tried all of them on sky princess and as you can see i even found a rather convenient way of teleporting myself from one to the
