husky volleyball fans have waited 647 days for this the return to heck edmondson pavilion of course these washington huskies played throughout this spring here in seattle but they were unable to welcome a full attendance of fans and finally the dog pack gets to come back to alaska airlines arena thanks for joining us on gohuskies.com and pack 12 plus i'm jason doro the 7th ranked huskies welcome the montana state bobcats to alaska airlines arena for this matinee affair washington enters five and one on the season montana state meanwhile four and five the huskies coached by seventh year head coach keegan cook coming off a spring season in which they went 20 and four won the pac-12 conference with a 17-3 mark the third pac-12 title during cook's tenure and here we go lma powell gets things started keira thompson with the first swing for the bobcats and it's a kill for the sophomore outstanding from parker colorado thompson comes in leading the bobcats and kills percent with three she was named mvp of the boise state tournament a couple of weekends ago and expect her to have a busy morning for montana state powell has to dive to save this one another chance for montana state early and a nice swing from hannah scott thompson and scott will be those two lethal weapons for montana state today they were the two names that keegan cook mentioned in my conversation with him yesterday that he thought could be really effective at the pins sophie summers up the middle kept alive bumped over by audrey hofer another chance for u-dub block the far pin ensley cross court with a roll shot dug out by hofer scott now into the block here's scott again but first a whistle and a double contact and a point called against montana state so in that conversation with coach huskies number four yesterday they're expecting a lot of crossing patterns from this montana state team they have a handful of players who can play middle or outside as well as players who can hit off one or two feet just a ton of versatility and they could stress out the dogs in terms of the complexities that they bring to the court that one just barely stays in and it's a 3-1 edge for the bobcats they will serve specifically when talking about thompson and scott cook said that they can be streaky and dangerous mention jordan klein's name as well the freshman outside as someone who can make big plays sophie summers up the middle for the kill sophie summers point summers in the starting lineup today for washington and serving as shannon you're on a quick set from ella powell she takes care of it summers a red shirt freshman from portland oregon and without lauren sanders available for washington today summer's among those starters on the right side jordan radek freshman middle from bozeman montana radick was another name that coach cook called out saying that she can be really tough to beat up the middle just a true freshman yet third in the big sky in blocks per set so far this year imani bush blocks and then an easy kill for hannah scott that ball just hovers above the middle of the net off the ricochet and then scott finishes it off the second kill for scott here's bush off speed drexel pounds it down but a great save draxler with another chance here's bush a little long and no touch so montana state out to a hot start a team that entered at four and five on the season they have won two true road contests well they haven't won a match at home yet this year so they fared well away from bozeman drexel into the block and it finds a gaping hole on the husky side and coach cook will use a timeout so the bobcats leap out to a set samantha drexel coming off a first team all-america season calais bump sets it over to bush able to flick it over the block here's hannah scott just barely got a touch at the net three kills already for scott she was named second team all big sky in the spring was ninth in the conference in kills per cent had two games with 20 plus kills averaging almost three kills per set this season lma powell over on two and the other first team all-american for washington this spring with a clever play here off a nice serve reception from shannon crenshaw powell was the first washington setter since 2006 to earn all-america first-team honors and that serve reception is botched and overpass pounded down by marin grote grota junior from burbank california earned a starting role this spring which led to all pac-12 honorable mention status in avca all region husky lineup just loaded with recognitions in the spring maddie ensley another one of those dogs who had a fantastic spring season ensley was the avca pacific north region freshman of the year in the spring as well as an all-region honorable mention still listed as a freshman as everyone got an extra year of eligibility after the spring pandemic season but ensley's due for another big workload in her second season with uw so a service error for washington montana state up by three after leading by as much as five in this first set and that lead is back to four after an ace for macy absur i'm sure a freshman defensive specialist from bellevue florida holds the bellevue high school career record for diggs with more than 1 300 and now a double contact called against eleme powell so the bobcats push that lead back to five a laser at lauren baze bump set by powell ensley has to go off speed klein blocked and then the rejection from grote just barely stays in the first block of the match for washington take another look the first stuff and now a second one groat was all over it sienna houghton serves for washington up the middle thompson blocked ensley on the tip drill and lynch can't get there for the pancake keegan cook talked about maddie ensley diversifying her game going into the second season for her you said they had a really specific role last year that she thrived in but now they're trying to improve her as a server a defender and a receiver and a kill for emma pence sophomore middle from carson city nevada [Music] pence to the bench audrey hoffer comes back in o for just a freshman from helena montana the first ever under armour first team all-american to sign with montana state summers had to take something off floated over ensley drexel back row and that's precision from drexel she didn't need to pack a big punch there just the right amount of oomph on that roll shot three-point margin the dig from crenshaw powell bump sets it for ensley she winds up a great dig from macy abshir a little tip from jordan radic and it gets to the floor braddock only a true freshman a lot of young players on this montana state squad 13 freshmen and sophomores a ton of underclassmen no juniors four seniors outside drexel hammers it off of klein and down surely we'll see drexel get a steady diet here is washington tries to claw out of this deficit now an ace for ensley [Applause] the first ace of the match for uw and they're back within two they've trailed by as much as five uh two separate points in this opening set they were down both seven two and eleven to six crenshaw bump sets for bush cross court dug out by thompson radic up the middle denied sophie summers on the stuff one more look summers one on one with radic and with washington back within one in this first set daniel jones uses a timeout blast that one off the block scott with four kills already on eight swings as well as one dig and one block a solid start for the senior outside from hawthorne california and an overpass but a net violation against jordan radek and to wait for a second to see if she got a piece of the net or if it was just the ball there as she tried to drill it down it is indeed a net violation one point margin radic off the block saved by grot drexel block two bush packs a big punch on that swing the first kill of the morning for imani bush the freshman from campbell river british columbia bush had played in just eight sets so far this season averaging almost two kills percent hitting a bit shy of 100. draxel stuffed both radick and scott combine at the near pin and the bobcats retake the lead montana state won two of three last weekend at the north texas invite they fell against abilene christian before beating both north north texas and jackson state bush winds up then that one sprays into the stands now imani bush is getting going keegan cook said they're trying to get her as many opportunities as possible called her a sponge soaking up as much as she can and quickly learning the system cook even said at times she reminds him of karabagima in her younger years with how physically talented she is down the line avery turnage turner j sophomore from idaho falls played in eight matches 25 sets as a true freshman in the spring and she's got some solid run so far here in the fall lma powell using the little backhanded flip on a serve reception that was going to sail over the net positioned well all square at 16 each ensley back in calais to the bench bush to serve and she sends it long that'll bring lauren baze back in bayes was in the starting lineup today for washington a true freshman from orange county california who is ranked as the fifth best liberal and 41st best recruit in the country by prep volleyball.com free ball for montana state they got options here and that one's just a little long almost nip the back corner daniel jones the fifth year head coach for montana state is up from the bench talking with the down raft on the far side and no challenge here will play on groat serves long three service errors for washington in this opening set none for montana state and now the bobcats return the favor all square at 18 each and keegan cook said he knew they'd get some hungry teams into alaska airlines arena this weekend i knew montana state fresno state would come feisty and put up a fight the dogs have got exactly that in that first set but a nice kill here from sam drexel the fourth kill of the opening set for drexel to lead all huskies powell serves thompson off the block crenshaw with a diving save ensley off speed covered by hofer thompson through the wickets tied again at 19's montana state led by as much as five earlier in this set they were up seven to two and 11 to six lauren baze pops it up drexel steps into this one a great cover by scott and then a rejection for the huskies drexel and summers combine up the middle and easy tap down for sam the third block of set number one for uw and the bottom drops out of that serve from maddie ensley of the 2021 fall season but there's the fourth service error for washington in this first set so they've served aggressively and paid for it at times libby christensen served short crenshaw dives to save it drexel right side popped up by audrey hoffer a nice off-speed swing from jordan klein that's a crafty player rather avery turnage there at the far pin and the sophomore just barely slips that one over the block drops it in we're even at 21 a piece christensen's short again powell to summers who pounds it down sophie summers gets the nod in the starting lineup this morning and she's already tallied a couple of kills in a couple of blocks crenshaw serves for uw and it's an ace three aces for washington in the opening set and shannon crenshaw has put the huskies up by two libero serves again and the response from montana state again it's avery turnage turnage played in just eight matches in the spring now is a sophomore having a big impact in this match three kills on three attacks powell right back to drexel stuffed [Music] emma pence on the rejection tied at 23s tied at 21s earlier and at 18s at its and at 17s they've been trading blows for a while now bush blocked popped up by crenshaw bush with another chance did she get a touch she indeed did at the end and for the first time in almost two years the crowd rises at alaska airlines arena with dubs up montana state won't give it to uw just yet good work by emma pence on the slide and once again we're tied powell puts it high up there for bush thompson off speed and the overpass drops out of bounds fives [Applause] powell has picked her spots and when she's got a serve receive like that one and it sprays toward the net with some acceleration she's just dumped it right over thompson winds up she got a touch set point number two for montana state the bobcats just four and five on the season powell tees it up for grot grote with the kill a marathon first set here [Applause] and if they were to pull the upset the bobcats badly need this opening set thompson denied another chance for montana state thompson swings again and blows that one through the wickets set point number three for the bobcats they're hitting 316 in this opening set and they've committed just one service error compared to four for uw bayes to powell out to ensley blocked they'll try ensley again off speed off the tape lands out of play and montana state has stunned two of three down at north texas last weekend and here they are in seattle up one set to none against the number seven team in the country set number two underway powell out to bush overpass bush into the block bush will try it again another dig for absurd and a nice swing from the back row a kill for hannah scott scott had a busy first set and now has five kills hitting 455. the bobcats hit above 300 in the opening set but they didn't commit many of those only one service error in the opening set they already have here one in set two drexel serving and that's the fifth service error for the huskies a key difference between these two squads in that first set they each had three blocks the digs column was pretty close but the service heirs signed a margin of four to one and montana state has quickly racked up a couple of errors at the service line here in set two [Music] here's imani bush an overpass ensley gets up and sends a bullet to the deck and keegan cook said about maddie ensley that she couldn't have done much more in a freshman year this spring season she did everything that they asked of her scott with that swing a little bit long getting back to ensley though cook said they always thought she'd be a player that would give u-dub that last bit of point scoring to put the huskies over the edge and some of their goals and she certainly did that and going into this year it's about rounding out her game with the serving as well as her passing lauren baze comes back in after that point for montana state with bush to the bench and jordan klein ready to serve freshman outside from ennis montana and she paints that back stripe for an ace keegan cook grabs the green card and he will challenge this we'll take another look to see if that one did indeed the point stays with montana state keegan cook maybe just wanting a breather there and a quick timeout early in the second set by challenging that ace for the bobcats marin grote on the slide clean as could be uw back up in set number two keegan cook said that grot had been waiting for her moment and last season she did not miss it she was determined to make her mark after a couple of seasons of development and she did precisely then what stands out to cook about marin is how good she was in big moments in the tournament she was often best in the fifth sets another block for u-dub their fourth of the match powell and summers there [Music] after falling behind by five points seven to two in the first set uw trying to set the tone here in the second but montana state continues to battle and after that block sprays out of bounds they're back within one lynch and pence come back in for montana state and lynch will serve the senior setter from bozeman that one's well in or rather it's out of bounds excuse me so a service error from montana state two point lead for uw pence on the slide dug out by powell drexel has to step over to this one off the arms of pence and eventually it pinballs to the floor look at the adjustment here from drexel having to slide across the 10-foot line and she turns it into a kill chased down by thompson here's drexel again cross court cutting it at a tight angle a little wide both teams heading right around 290 at this point montana state with the one set to none advantage after taking the first 28-26 ensley with the kill and that one was predicated on the great serve reception from lauren bayes baze popping it right to lma powell that's a three-point pass and then ensley takes care of the rest keegan cook said that bay's serve reception level is higher than most freshmen that you'll see that's where she really excels and if she can take over more serve receive responsibilities it could free up uw's hitters especially sam drexel and drexel is the one here with the block solo at the near pin that one's averaged 2 000 plus here at heckenmanson pavilion for quite some time they led the pac-12 in attendance in 13 of the last 16 seasons prior to the pandemic and seeing the students the fans back here at heck ed is a thrilling experience washington up 11-6 a lead that montana state held in the opening set and the huskies hoping to flip the script here in set two but the service error from ensley hands it back to the bobcats six service errors for the huskies so far bush steps into this one dials up a little something extra and off a ricochet montana state takes the point and keegan cook can probably chalk that one up to some bad luck after a phenomenal swing from imani bush that one's misplayed by calais in the back row three straight points for the bobcats out of the timeout they've closed the gap to two powell with options here tees it up for summers kept up by absurd a free ball for the huskies powell to summers again did she keep it in yes there was also a net violation committed by the bobcats here as they tried to block summers so uw sides out after the 3-0 montana state scoring run thompson with the left hand flicks it over callahan to dig it bush through a seam [Applause] imani bush picking out her spot here and she had a big alley way to drive this one through bush second on the team today with four kills hitting 250. thompson turning that one to the far side and it's indeed a kill for thompson now this montana state team has been competitive under fifth year head coach daniel jones they've strung together four consecutive seasons with double digit wins they had not strung three such seasons together since 2003 to 2005. bush goes off speed this time she brought the laser on her last swing and that opens up the off-speed game finds that hole in the middle of the court with a nice serve thompson rising punched up by calais a couple of nice plays from her bush blocks radic on the denial the freshman is third in the big sky in blocks percent a health and human performance major from bozeman powell out to grow on the slide and montana state can't clean it up [Applause] klein with an all-out effort trying to save that one but growth had just the right amount of pressure on it big swing from klein just a little wide [Applause] keegan cook emphasized that montana state has some streaky and dangerous players at the pins he said that klein is one of those bobcats that can make big plays she just barely missed on that last swing groat cross court the huskies threading the needle in the middle of set two just like bush grope finds second in the country at the time so that was road win against a ranked foe for washington they've played a pretty stiff non-conference slate and they have two more matches here at home today with montana state and fresno state groat she's been great on the slide and she drills that one too [Applause] and keegan cook said that marin had been waiting for her moment and last season was the year that she blossomed into a star a pac-12 honorable mention and avca all region honoree in the spring that one won't quite stay in montana state sides out down by seven you look at the progression of marin groat's career as a freshman in 2018 she started four matches while lauren sanders was out with an injury played a total of 34 sets in 2019 she played 27 sets and then last year is when she really took on that bigger role alongside sanders and it has paid dividends there's groat again expanding the washington lead to eight she hit 3 31 in the spring the fifth best in the pack and she was second on the team in blocks with one percent she hits the bench here as washington tries to pull away in this second set then a dagger from jordan raddick a true freshman at the far pin with a missile that brings the bobcats back within seven ensley far pinned dung out by abshir pence at the net poking it over summer is up the middle did it get over just barely [Applause] so the last handful of points have gone back and forth after a five-nothing washington run free ball from scott powell backsets it for drexel and drexel just carves up the montana state defense sam drexel can provide so many different shots a versatile attacker and she showed it off and there like growth sam drexel took on a much bigger role last year there's a six rotation opposite and she took advantage of that opportunity becoming a first-team all-american ensley off the block and that one's blocked out of bounds back-to-back points for the bobcats [Music] so the door just barely creaking open for daniel jones squad late in set two that serve is out though the fifth service error for montana state after they committed just one in the opening set and uw is a couple of points away from drawing even but the huskies returned the favor that's eight service errors for them so far this morning almost noon here pacific time part of a doubleheader the huskies will play again tonight against fresno state 7 p.m first serve at alaska airlines arena thompson off the block kept up by calais calais with some hustle plays here in set two scott paints that back line hannah scott has been a key contributor for four full seasons at montana state she was second team all big sky in the spring top ten in the conference with just under 3 kills per set draxel hammers that one down one more look at drexel winding up and bringing the fastball dubs up at heckhead pence on the slide misfires [Applause] and washington draws even a dominant second set that the huskies take 25-17 and were even edible marin growth hitting 857 six kills on seven attacks no errors bush hitting 200 ensley 300 summers at almost 400. five digs as well for emma calais four for the libero shannon crenshaw and one for true freshman lauren bayes establishing yourself early has been key in our first two sets both teams held five point advantages early in sets one and two montana stayed up 11-6 in the first then u-dub up 11-6 in the second and they each prevailed in those respective sets after setting the tone a block for emma pence to start this second or third set excuse me pence was first team all big sky in the spring hit 315 the fourth best mark in the conference and she was second in the big sky in blocks per set 1.36 a mark that was 25th best in the country powell tees it up for drexel off the tape dug out by ali lynch here's thompson through the block calais chases it down bush cross court a little wide now we've learned from sets one and two that these are crucial points as you try to take control at the start of the set there's a missile from hannah scott and she gets a little help from the tape leading to the fourth ace of the match for montana state and a three-nothing advantage in the third that one's into the net montana state's coming off a solid season two just like washington the bobcats were 10-4 in the spring finished third in the big sky and they've been consistent in recent years 2018 they qualified for the big sky tourney for the first time since 2012. as washington gets an ace of their own to get back within one but montana state has etched themselves back in some of their program record books under daniel jones now in his fifth season that 2018 campaign also brought them to the big sky attorney for just the second time since 2005. they got their first tourney win since 2005. the following year in 2019 so they've been getting more and more competitive and they're showing the depth of talent that they have here in seattle today thompson cross court got under it so a couple of miscues for both squads here early and sent three bush is ready to serve bush was named the british columbia girls player of the year during her high school days in 2020 but a service error from her she also played for team canada in the 2019 u18 world championships so keegan cook and the husky coaching staff with high expectations for her after she enrolled early in january and was with the team but only practicing during the spring season couldn't compete in actual matches growth on the slide flicks it over and off the block and down it's kyra thompson [Music] thompson's seventh excuse me you got two fingers up from the upref perhaps a double contact here daniel jones is speaking with the official on the far side arguing against the ball handling violation but the call will stick and it's 5-4 so sophie summers back in siana houghton returns as well and hoden serves sophomore from menlo park california thompson from behind the 10-foot line and that one did not get over the tape tied at fives houghton's still serving she played in just 10 sets as a freshman in 2019 but appeared in 59 sets this spring primarily as a serving seven her role continues to expand here comes a free ball for washington houdin the one to play it powell lobs it out to ensley blocked baze covers ensley with another chance did she get a touch yes [Applause] three straight points for uw [Music] odin with a rocket dumped over on two bays and hodan are there free ball for the bobcats now a little bit long off the hand of jordan klein four straight for washington with houghton at the service line odin's sister jessica played at cal they grew up in menlo park a short drive from stanford very familiar with pac-12 country and another attack flies long from montana state daniel jones content to let his bobcats battle through this struggling stretch early in set three can the bobcats get out of a rut thompson's usually the go-to when they need it and she delivers here so montana state finally sides out after the 5-0 run for the huskies ensley winds up abser can't handle it [Applause] the rocket from maddie ensley and washington's back up three and ensley really cranks this one baze with a dive but can't keep it in lauren bay's going full extension after that ball in front of keegan cook montana state back within two u-dub leads the all-time series between these two 17-7 the huskies also won the last meeting between washington and montana state on august 29 of 2008 and that was a sweep for the huskies and more than 13 years later here they are facing off again in seattle [Music] off speed from radic keeping uw on their heels this one bounced around but not high enough [Music] crenshaw with the serve reception bush outside too wide so now the bobcats on a three to one run that's a very young team for daniel jones he has 13 underclassmen just four upperclassmen they're all seniors no juniors drexel just pummels that one into the block and it follows to the deck just punching this one into two bobcats crenshaw misfires on the serve keegan cook said that it'd be hard to prep for this montana state team because of all the crossing patterns they run they have a ton of versatile players you can hit off one or two feet they bring some complexities that washington's not used to seeing the first set certainly confounded uw but they adjusted took set number two 25-17 and they have a slight edge here in the third 12 to 10. thompson that one just barely spills over the net pushed over by powell options here for montana state and a nice block imani bush and marin grote are there a sixth block for uw washington has been out blocking their opponents this year by a pretty solid margin averaging over two blocks per set while only giving up one and a half percent drexel from the back row and left it low washington's also hitting almost 300 this year while their opposition is hitting 210. they fared well against a couple of big ten teams in iowa and illinois looked good last weekend against cal poly and pepperdine and getting tested today by montana state washington's lead back to three with ensley returning calais to the bench and bush serving bush from campbell river british columbia out on vancouver island about a six or seven hour trek from seattle including the ferry ride ensley backpedaling still gets a great swing off powell out to grote this time the dig from lynch sent back to the bobcats a free ball now for u-dub powell flips it over on two another nice save by lynch far side thompson denied ensley and groat form a roof at the far pine washington surges out to a four point lead and montana state calls timeout midway through set three prior to the t.o called by daniel jones now we'll see what the bobcats can muster here in set three all the momentum with washington after taking the second set 25-17 and jumping out to a lead here in set three hampshire with a great save off a laser from grot now she'll bumps at it for thompson and thompson got under that attack houghton and summer's return crenshaw to the bench as well as grot last time houghton was here at the service line washington went on a significant run it won't happen this time jordan radek on the slide with a kill and that true freshman from bozeman has made a big impact ranek electing to stay close to home play her collegiate ball in bozeman as well bump set for ensley ensley rifles it long so montana state chipping away at the margin and we'll see if keegan cook dips in into his pocket to use a timeout here soon with the lead slimming now a service error into the bottom of the net now the huskies can try to start a run with lma powell powell the pac-12 setter of the year in the spring set uw to a 253 hitting percentage on the season a diving save from crenshaw will the dogs take advantage of the hustle play ensley wide oh there's a touch [Applause] both coaches seem a little confused by the last play daniel jones is up he's got the green card and we might be taking another look at this one after the challenge from daniel jones the call is reversed there is no touch at the net and the attack from ensley is wide and instead of being down four the bobcats are within two here in set number three so a crucial point is flipped and libby christensen ready to serve played by crenshaw summers on the flick scott into the block and out of play montana state now on a 4-1 run the huskies led 16-12 just moments ago and a brief discussion between both head coaches and the side wrath and now we'll resume christensen short sent over and popped down by hannah scott [Music] a 5-1 land slide for the bobcats and they've drawn even here in set three christensen the senior from vodkaville california serves finished the spring season as montana state starting libero now playing a big role at the service line but we have a net violation on the bobcats and that 5-1 burst comes to an end the huskies sign out and bring in emma calais to serve calais is senior defensive specialist from villa park california played 94 sets in the spring more than the previous three seasons combined for her and she finished fourth on the team in diggs scott down the middle there was a touch at the net again at 18 all the first set saw a total of 10 ties a whole bunch of lead changes after montana state led early 7-2 and 11-6 eventually the bobcats prevailed in the opening set 28-26 drexel is roofed scott and pence with a tag team at the near pin and a service error now is the first lead for montana state in this set since they were up five to three so they've clawed back into the third turnage off the block and down turnage has been super efficient today six kills on nine swings two errors she's hitting 444. bobcats back in command grot up the middle misses wide and now keegan cook will use one of those timeouts here at heck edmondson pavilion late in set 3. montana state leads 21-19 all even at one set a piece calais dives for the serve reception drexel right side off the block point washington huskies back within one the bobcats took the first three points in this set and they led five to four but they didn't lead again until taking a 19 to 18 advantage just moments ago drexel missed fires on the serve washington controlled the middle of this set they led by as much as fort 15 to 11 and 16 to 12 but that lead slipped away as the bobcats went on a 5-1 run to go up 19-18 and now here they are up 22-20 draxel back row miss timed her jump just a bit had to take something off drexel jumps in overpass another kill for montana state jordan klein powers down the overpass and the bobcats are a couple of points away from taking a two sets to one lead powell over to bush the dig from scott in the back row she sends a free ball over pushed up by crenshaw bush with another opportunity this time absurd with the save powell to grow on the slide flips it to the middle a joust at the net grot won it but the point's not over grot pushes it up powell over on two a timely dump from the reigning pac-12 setter of the year now with montana state shirley fatigued from a very long rally powell is able to beat them to that campfire ensley winding up and the block stays in pens and klein at the far pin they'd ricocheted a long way off the block and just barely stayed in the near strain set point number one for montana state it took some extra points for them to win the first set 28-26 washington took the second 25-17 what happens here in the third grot not done yet [Applause] groats eighth kill and now she'll be serving as montana state gets set point number two thompson with the dagger kyra thompson delivers montana state takes set number three 25-22 on this montana state squad one of just four seniors has been a key contributor for four full seasons she's posted two plus kills per set every year earned first team all big sky status in 2019 and then the second team this past spring drexel cross court nice dig from lynch a chance for pence at the net and the huskies back on their heels as pence smashes that one to the deck [Music] keep in mind that washington missing a couple of key pieces today lauren sanders their four-time pac-12 honorable mention middle blocker is out and claire hoffman while dressed to play has not seen before yet this morning sophie summers with the kill brings us even at two apiece as you see summers getting on top of that one using all over six foot three frame summers with five kills today on ten swings one error she's hitting 400 and now an ace for uw [Applause] the sixth ace [Music] for the huskies today in the second as well for shannon crenshaw a block up the middle marin grove rises and then rejects the attack from turnage [Applause] washington closing in on their 10th block of the match lynch sets it pence with the swing too long [Applause] lynch had to run well outside the boundary to set that one she really only had one good option off a tough pass this one's a three-point pass cross court from turnage and calais and drexel spill into the cheerleaders trying to track that one down the bobcats side out they're back within two look at drexel here laying out knowing that every point matters serve long from macy amster both teams with 10 plus service errors at this point [Applause] as the huskies get tested in their home opener drexel popped up by thompson back row attack for scott off the tape dug out by calais bush drops it just in front of the back row but scott keeps it alive thompson off the block pushed up again by calais here's bush again lynch out to thompson over the block and [Applause] montana state looking far from fatigue now sticking with that point unlike the huskies montana state only plays one match today they'll face off with fresno state tomorrow originally portland was supposed to join this thursday friday tournament but portland was unable to travel up to seattle this weekend due to some injury issues so it's just the three teams and the huskies are the only ones playing a double header keegan cook said he's keeping that in mind as he figures out his rotation today [Music] [Applause] lauren baze kept up by thompson thompson swings two off the block groat right into the middle of the court whips that one through the defense off a perfect set from lma powell [Applause] keegan cooks today has a lot of confidence in their depth as lauren pays one of those players providing tip comes through with an ace a 9-4 lead for washington in the fourth set with the huskies trailing two sets to one [Applause] they had a firm grasp on the second set 25-17 but both of the tight ones have gone the way of the bobcats 28-26 and 25-22 set wins and sets one and three respectively [Applause] with a kill and the lead for uw balloons further [Applause] a 4-0 run for the huskies radek blocked up the middle right side thompson misses cross court it's a five-nothing burst for washington [Applause] warren bayes the freshman ds from orange county serves it up an ace for bays make it a six nothing avalanche for uw here in set number four [Applause] bayes with a couple of aces and a couple of digs in this match [Music] radic ends the uw run state has a couple of options that they go to when they need to terminate a run radek and thompson have been those individuals [Applause] out of system set for ensley ensley got a touch [Music] for ensley she's into double digits now with 10 kills tied for a team high with sam drexel hannah scott has a game-high 13 for montana state [Applause] radic just barely over the tape it's a generous hop off the net another point for the bobcats turnage returns libby christensen comes in as well christensen is back to serve she's currently eighth in the big sky and digs percent at 3.3 ensley right through christensen when maddie ensley is able to wind up and really pack a punch there's nothing you can do ensley now leading the way for washington with 11 kills tracked down by hofer long set to the back row for thompson powell has more options and washington is just looking crisp in this four set they're purely in system and that makes this easy work for sophie summers up the middle braddock unable to close the block nine point lead for the huskies hannah scott with the response scott's only five foot 11 but she can really elevate [Music] and she's shown some serious stamina today even here midway through the fourth set [Applause] [Music] able to rise then clobber that last attack scott is 12th in career kills at montana st a family financial planning major and that's four touches against uw [Music] the officials provide some confirmation for the scorers table there [Applause] and we resume powell up for ensley and has to take something off but it still works ensley with the mini rainbow here gets the fingertips under it and it's hard to slide a ball in just a couple feet away from [Music] midcourt that one was a good six or seven feet from the 10-foot straight scott flicks it into the block popped up by lynch thompson back row off speed here's summers now flicks it through the bobcat defense summers with a couple of smart plays she shows off the power when it plays to her advantage but when she can make a clever play like that she knows how to do that too scott with the hammer blocked by bush one on one of the four pin and bush wins the matchup [Music] [Applause] nine blocks for the huskies calais at scott scott swinging here too and she got a touch [Music] so that ends the 3-0 scoring run for the huskies and shayla weber comes in to serve weber a sophomore defensive specialist from joliet montana 5'4 played in 20 sets as a true freshman in the spring and she's already topped that mark here in the fall summers whistles that one to the deck [Applause] her last kill was off speed just a smart play seeing a vacancy this time she's going to wind up and hammer it down no lauren sanders today no problem when sophie summers can step up and play like this service error from shannon crenshaw making it 1910 and keegan cook said that going into this season he thought that they'd be usually utilizing all three middles a lot they're all very capable they all have three plus years of experience sophie's got a lot of meaningful playing time now and she's done what they expected her to do [Applause] bush with another kill she's heating up in the fourth set and while the margin is pretty large at 10 points daniel jones will use a timeout to give his team a breather in this four set and they took the second 25-17 both dominant performances but sets one and flush with her eighth kill one of five huskies with eight kills or more today ensley drexel grope bush and summer is included on that list remember no sanders or hoffman in the lineup for washington today as bayes takes her third ace of the afternoon [Applause] nine aces for washington compared to just four for montana state and that aggressive approach at the service line is paying off for uw now attack error as that one spills out of bounds and washington's two points away from sending us to a fifth base serves short radic on the slide again that one's off the hands of ensley but it also caught the antenna so that's another hitting error and it's set point for u-dub lauren baze goes short again [Applause] thompson blocked and the dogs record their 10th block as they win set number lines arena ella powell the pac-12 setter of the year this spring and a first-team all-american serves it up [Applause] a quick kill to start off set number five provided by jordan klein klein with only four kills today on 12 swings she's hitting just above one or just below 100 rather and she serves here for the bobcats powell over to summers a little tip across scott back the other way off of summers and down two quick points for montana steam [Applause] how much is left in the legs of these bobcats and daniel jones switched things up a bit and that fourth set giving some of his top players a little rest before the fifth and ensley miss fires leaving that one short dents to one of their foe that's ohio state the buckeyes beat the huskies back on august 28th uw has given up two sets to montana state this afternoon and here in the fifth the bobcats have claimed a four-nothing advantage [Applause] [Music] and trying to propel themselves toward a big upset and an ace to make it five-nothing in the fifth faze and crenshaw thought that one was long but it stays in for jordan klein [Applause] so a chance for the huskies to reset after signing out emma calais comes in so does imani bush ensley and baze sit [Applause] the huskies have been without lauren sanders and claire hoffman today so they're trying to replace a couple of very talented players powell with the dig crenshaw sets it up for bush cross court off the arms of absent into the seats hannah scott joins a couple of fans in the front row trying to chase it down here's bush smashing it cross court hampshire couldn't handle it calais finds the corner for a days after the 5-0 burst to start this set from montana state washington's taking three straight points calais going short hofer out to ranic drexel right side blocked radick on the stuff [Music] pence comes back in for montana state so does ali lynch hofer and radic sit the bobcats four and five this season they won two out of three last weekend at the north texas invite for both teams their final tune-up before conference action bush rejected [Applause] pensen turnage with this block [Applause] ten blocks for each side now [Applause] the bobcat lead back to four [Applause] [Music] calais slides for the save bush imani bush [Music] [Applause] in her first season as a husky after she had to only practice in the spring since she enrolled early in january and she is playing in crunch time here for washington as they try to fend off an upset bid kept up by crenshaw free ball for the bobcats lynch has options off speed dug out by powell crenshaw bump set for bush off the block [Applause] another chance for montana state here's scott through the block the dig from calais bush denied [Applause] some big blocks from the bobcats here in set five 11 for them in the contest they've hit just 182 today but they've taken the crucial points powell out to drexel drexel with an easy kill the accuracy of drexel here finding a seam in the back row makes it a three-point [Applause] in margin very crisp attack from avery turnage there [Music] for the season turning his average 1.6 kills per set she's come through with eight kills today hitting 333 a great clip powell over on two lynch is there thompson off the block and down the energy growing on the bobcat bench and keegan cuts will bring his troops over to his bench time-out huskies down 10-5 in the fifth since this spring's season opener january 22nd of 2021 and they're trying to keep that streak going but they're down 10-5 in the fifth this one's popped over off the big swing from imani bush and the huskies are within four [Music] good work there to stay with it and then drexel delivers what awareness from sophie summers it was hit right into her block and as it pinballed between her and the net she stayed on top of it punched it out and gave drexel the opportunity to win the point dogs within two timeout bobcats 11-9 in the fifth [Music] in the fifth set every other set that has come down to the wire would end up in montana state's hands and the dogs win a nail biter this time the rally continues for uw the scramble situation for montana state that they can't clean up [Applause] and washington's now on a 5-1 run they trailed 10-5 just moments ago right side thompson has moved sophie summers on another big block a 6-1 surge for washington we're all square at 11 apiece [Music] odin with the line drive serve flying hit it off the block radic up the middle goes off speed powell digs it faze sets it ensley ends it on a 7-1 avalanche after this kill from ensley montana state calls timeout as the huskies take their first lead in set number five back at alaska airlines airlines arena for the first time in almost 650 days is pulling for the dogs at the end of set five here radic terminates 12 on [Applause] so montana state gets a badly needed point [Applause] after the timeout [Music] they led 10-5 earlier in this set an overpass but montana state can't finish it off and now washington gets a free ball ensley pops it up and gets it [Music] [Applause] earlier in this fifth set and you see all the shoes backpedaling as ensley gets up there she goes off speed huskies up one [Applause] [Music] powell serves short into the net tied up at 13-13 montana state has won the close sets today they took the first one by two 28-26 they won the third by three 25-22 washington's margin of victory in the second and fourth sets were eight in 14 respectively powell out to drexel flicks it down match point for washington coming up [Applause] washington trying to stave off this upset bid [Applause] without two key cogs and lauren sanders and claire hoffman can they seal the deal calais serves [Music] scott with a rocket we're not done yet 14 [Applause] [Music] washington did have a set point in the first set that they couldn't finish off they were up 24-23 montana state would take it 28-26 powell drexel washington drexel with 14 kills time for the team lead with ensley the dubs come back up match point number two for the huskies [Music] crenshaw and it's an ace to finish off the win for washington the huskies stave off the upset
