It's very tall grass hey? Perfect for a lion ambush Zambezi, ZAMBIA Season 7 - Eps.89 Good morning Internet it is 7:30  in the morning and welcome back to the channel   Welcome here in Zambia. I'm staying in a town called Zambezi right at the Zambezi river And I'm getting ready for another day. I'm really looking forward to my first real ride in Zambia   And when I crossed the border in the last video, the guy at immigration I asked him about the road conditions. I was like, how is the road? And to where I'm going today he said it's all dirt   But he did say it was good dirt. I was like, it.. it was it like as bad as like, on the Angola side to here He's like no, no, no it will be good dirt. So it's 350 kilometers, so even 350 kilometers of good dirt It will take me a while, so that's why I was like, I better get going So I almost packed Alaska already, I just need to get the rest of my gear and I'll get the map out to show you where I'm going The plan, the plan, let me see. I am now right over here and oh, it's actually on the map I want to ride to Kaoma today, which is over here but I'll probably have to take this route around Because this right here, I'm not even sure if it's a proper road and I think it goes straight through some I don't know wetland or something. So I think I'll have to take the longer road Um and that means that it will be 350 kilometers all the way to Kaoma This on my wrist by the way is a sunburn. Turns out there was a little bit of space between my glove And my shirt and now I have beautiful sunburn Okay Off I go Let's see something of Zambia I do need to fill up, if I fill up my main tank and my rear tank Then.. I'll have enough to uh.. Tacoma.. um.. Tacoma.. Kaoma Kaoma ha ha ha.. Sorry it's still early, it's still early. Trying to wake up Also 'cause there's a 1 hour time difference between Angola and Zambia So the clock went 1 hour ahead, so.. Basically I got up at quarter past 5 this morning In Angolan time so it's uh.. early enough Oh by the way my tablet came back to life That's good news. Uh..I rebooted it and now it's working again so.. I'm happy with that, that's a lot easier  than uh.. looking at the backside of the tablet I am just.. I am going to go.. left I'm not sure if there's a petrol station that way Yeah Puma Morning! Hi, how are you? This side Okay You can come this side, no problem Oh okay okay Nice moto, ha-ha-ha Thanks man It's a nice one! I think so too Uh, full please Yeah, I also have a one tank there and also one here No problem Fuel is more expensive than in Angola, no? Here it's very expensive Yeah In Angola is cheap You came from Angola, you went there? Yeah, I came yesterday from Angola Yeah yeah - Yeah Just cruising.. Yeah, they're very cheap Yeah.. here is woo.. Here, very expensive.. Yeah. Thank you Bye! Okay off I go 360 kms To go Oh Volkswagen It's interesting how the ox wagon seems to be the main type of transport here Okay hey, there's a car Just in time.. for the ferry Hi I can go? Okay Good morning - How are you? I'm fine, how are you Sorry? - You're from where? I'm from the Netherlands - Okay, with a bike? Yeah - From Netherlands with a bike? Yeah - Serious! - Yeah yeah It's far - It's far So you from Lusaka.. you have used the.. I came for West Africa. Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal through Nigeria, Angola and then here Okay, so I am super lucky because there is this expedition vehicle With John, a South African And uh.. they're actually doing a recce. So they're trying out that jungle road Remember when I showed on the map, that there's a short route and there's a long route Let me first get off and then I'll tell you what the plan is Now should go left here Okay so remember this morning, I said there's a short route and there's a long route And first I thought okay, I'll take the short route and then I thought hm.. I'm not too sure about that route But then the long route is like, 100 kilometer longer so it's really far And uh.. but I was like, okay let's do that then But now I'm taking this uh.. ferry thing and I meet John And he said, that he did that long route three weeks ago and he said it's horrible Like it's in really bad condition So he's like, I'm actually want to try this road to see, because he's going to come back here Uh, in a while with some more vehicles, so he wants to know if this route is better So he was like, you know what, why don't you go first and if I run into trouble, then at least I know that they are behind me So I was like okay, let's try it But uh yeah, I asked like but are there any villages on the way And yeah, they said not a lot a few but it's pretty remote And it goes straight through the forest. So the might be like some fallen trees or something But anyway, let's see If I can do it It would save me.. yeah, like a 100 kms so He said that long route that 100 kilometers, he says already will take you 3 or 4 hours So I was like wah, okay must be really bad then Now this is sandy It's kind of like the first expedition vehicle I've seen in a really long time I met a few overlanders two cars Uh, when I crossed from Nigeria into  Cameroon And after that I have seen no one But I suppose now that I'm getting close to like Southern and Eastern Africa it will be a bit more common There's just not so many travelers taking that western route It surely is a little bit overgrown here and there Yee hoo! Oh, this is a fun, fun track Okay, it's not super easy because it's relatively thick soft sand So it's not very easy Either I ride in a soft sandy rut or ride in the middle here Either way I'm all over the place Just going to lower my tire pressure a little bit to see if that will help 'Cause it is such a fight From my distance the track looks  fine, but it's like this soft soft sand And I have to stay in like the track Can't really right in the middle either so it's really.. it's really hard work Where is it [ Dutch ] Now I'm lowering my tire pressure is always.. I try not to do it normally 'cause it just increases my risk of a puncture And I'm never really looking forward to changing the tube So if I can I always try to keep my tire pressure as high as possible But.. of course it does help to lower it in sand Almost missed this little detour Just got it Wow, it feels like I'm riding on the savanna And where is track? Over here It's very tall grass hey? Perfect for a lion ambush Come on.. come on, Alaska! Wow It is beautiful here, right? I'm being slapped by bushes And I fell again! Here Oh man. I fell so many times today I think it's a new record but I think it's like 8 and half kilometers to go I think so.. I can do it It's just the South African is past me. They didn't see just before here I thought there was a detour, so I was like oh yeah I'm going to avoid this sandy bit but then, what is that? Oh, something is wrong again It wasn't a detour but it went just a different way So I.. And then as I was in that detour.. .. I saw them through the bushes, I saw them pass me They didn't see that I went in there So now they are ahead of me and they don't know where I am I hope they're not too worried Honestly, it's so much better to have like, open desert like in Mauritania Than having to ride in like, a soft sandy rut It's so hard.. especially, with a loaded motorbike Ah it's.. It's just not possible to get any speed and then there's bushes everywhere So I can't go so fast because of that either I have to take a pause because.. see, Alaska is overheating like mad And so am I Let's see Yes. Temperature light is off Let's quickly go It's only 6 and half kilometers so should just make it I made it, I made it! Hey! Sorry I didn't see you there Alright so, it is still dirt till Kaoma but it should be like decent dirt from now on I can't believe I made it through that Ox wagon I made it to Kaoma Lodge Yes So this is my little house for tonight, number 10 Give you a tour I have a purple nightstand And uh.. this is the bed and then.. Oh wow! This is the bathroom Very cute So a shower really does wonders, and I finally think I don't look like a red tomato anymore But what a day, what a day that 60 kilometer track took nearly 4 hours It was insane I think I dropped Alaska 10 times and I was just.. it was tough It was really, it was hardcore physical today for me But I still made it so I'm happy to be here uh, I'm super tired now So I'm going to see if I can eat something here. Because yeah, lunch was again an energy bar And that's it, so I'm pretty hungry now after this workout So I'm going to see if I can eat something but I just want to end the video. And uh, prepare myself for the next ride basically So that was it for today. I really hope you like this video If you did please give a big thumbs up.
