where they play how they play if they play those were the words spoken by Jose Mourinho after being knocked out of the Champions League at Manchester United one year after bringing European success back to the club the special one has gone on record stating how his time there was one of the most successful achievements of his career after finishing second so I thought 7 years after that Europa League win let's take a look at what even to this day is the most successful Manchester United side post f and see if Jose was right did he severely overachieve with a bunch of players destined to fail well let me tell you right now some have gone on to have the career from hell so let's find out where they play how they play if they play starting with the goalkeepers despite not starting the final David de GE proved over his many years at man united that he was a goalkeeping great a spot as a legend was seemingly set in stone after his failed move to ra Madrid thanks to a lousy fax machine however his time at United some could argue went on a couple years longer than it should have done as he became riddled with the mistakes and low confidence The Tipping Point being the only other Europa League final the club has reached since Jose's time it went all the way to De gea's spot kick who missed whilst also failing to save a single penalty himself this saw him blamed for the loss and perhaps indirectly Ole losing his job his time with tenh was short as despite a new contract to being prepared it was ultimately ripped up following another poor performance in the FA Cup Final versus Rivals Manchester City since then despite rumors of interest from the likes of Newcastle PSG Bayern Munich and Saudi Arabia David de Gea remains without a football club and is a free agent at the age of just 33 but the keeper who did start the Europa League final in 2017 of course was none other than the greatest number two in the world as fans would like to call him Sergio rero he rejected a move to bucker juniors in the January transfer window due to a fantastic Europa League season that year ultimately leading to the competition win despite being the number one for the national team at the time Romero continued to sit on United's bench before leaving the same way he joined in 2021 as a free agent nonetheless during the 61 games he played for the club he kept a clean sheet in 56% of them which is an incredibly respectable stat to hold after a year spent at vanessia he finally got the move back to Argentina he he joed bucker Junior's where he sparked a mass brawl against Fierce Rivals River Plate leading to a total of six red cards we're moving past the goalkeepers now and onto the back four because Eric baay was Jose's first United signing and he was mental he ended up in the Europa League Squad of the season the year they won it with himself looking like an extremely promising player at Center Back The Following season however he found himself injured for 100 days sparking the problem that would going on to haunt his entire career this left him feeling as per his own words helpless nonetheless the reoccurring issues the club had at Center back saw ba stay longer than he probably would have expected signing multiple contract extensions he eventually left the club under Eric tenh following a lone move to Marseilles which never turned permanent where his next club would be Bashas but that couldn't have ended any worse after just a couple months his contract was terminated to depor performances and incompatibility with the team thus in December of 2023 Eric B found himself back where his career kickstarted itself Villa Royale now up next is one of the players on this list who were not only in my opinion underrated but have gone on to have a pretty respectable career and that is of course Dy blind this versatile defensive midfielders saw himself be used more as a center back at United before Jose deployed him at left back over the out of fa Luke Shaw we'll get on to him in a minute blind started in the Europa League final against his former Club Ajax but went on to rejoin them the following year it was all going well for him as blind even recorded a hat-trick in an 8 nil win things soon went wrong though as blind was diagnosed with the heart condition in December 2019 after suffering from dizziness during a Champions League game against Valencia he returned to action in February after having a defibrator fitted regardless his aax career came to an end for a second time in 2022 as his contract was terminated however the then 32-year-old joined Bayern Munich for 6 months in 2023 before joining shock La Liga title Challengers Jona now another player that has gone on to have a respectable career is mato Darian the right back found himself on the left a few times under Jose including in the Europa League final he soon fell out of favor with him however playing Just Eight Games The Following Season many fans agreed that he probably wasn't at the level required to start week in week out for the club thus he found himself shipped back to Italy with Palmer in 2019 a year after signing for the club he went on loan to Inter Milan who ended up buying him for just under2 million which proved to be a total bargain as he found himself to be an important part of the team that sought into to find themselves in the Champions League final before losing to eventual treble winners Manchester City following the semi-final against AC Milan Darian actually spoke about his time at United and how he wouldn't be the player or person he is now without the time he spent there and thanked them for everything but moving on Timothy fosu Mena was a highly promising youngster during his time at man united touted to do incredible things unfortunately for him however his career has been in constant limbo an injury C his loan to fall him short in 2019 and after a less than impressive spell united following his return he joined by a lusen he suffered another knee ligament injury in 2021 and wouldn't play again until 320 Days Later nonetheless the now 26y old still hasn't hit the heights many thought that he would as he's still yet to play a game for lusen during their title charg this season now it feels like a long long time ago since Ser Alex Ferguson said that Phil Jones could go on to be the greatest player the club had ever seen I think by now it's probably safe to say that his career never came close to anything like that he was practically part-time during his entire United Career in 2023 though his 12-year career at United finally came to an end after many probably undeserved contract extensions however he was spotted at a man united under 18's game to get some coaching experience with him set to take the steps towards gaining his badges with no other playing opportunities presenting themselves for the brief time he was fit under Jose though he cemented a pretty solid partnership with Marcus Rocco who was another who had injury is keeping him from playing consistently and despite Ole telling Rocco that he had plans for him in his Squad he was later loaned out to his Boyhood club estudantes before then being sold to Baka juniors in 2021 where he continues with his injury concerns now one of the few on this list that have gone on to have a successful career at United is ironically probably the player that Jose barely rated Luke Shaw it's no secret that the two didn't see eye to eye with the manager claiming that Shaw could not continue to play with my my brain two years later he even questioned Shaw's training focus and ambition a move to Everton was on the cards in 2018 as Jose looked to sell the left back but the Englishman rejected such a deal now sh admitted in 2021 that their relationship wasn't the best but one thing Jose did do according to him was helping become mentally stronger Shaw admitted that he finally felt wanted in the team again once oi became the manager which was reflected in his performances as he went on to undoubtedly have the best years of his career for both Club and Country following the transfer of Alex Tes which kind of kicked Shaw into gear in spite of this whilst working as a pundit Jose continued to criticize the left back labeling Shaw as poor during the European championships with England causing the player to come out publicly and tell Jose that it's time he just moved on nonetheless the horror leg break which left him almost losing his leg in 2015 now feels like a long time ago after Shaw reinvented himself becoming one of manchest United's most important players unfortunately injury issues have found themselves creeping back into his game but there's no doubting that United are a far better team in both attack and defense when he's on the pitch nowadays now Chris smalling's career United was another that never quite lived up to the expectations unlike others though he got his opportunity to prove his worth elsewhere following a very successful move to Roma in 2019 he was then later reunited with Jose where in 2022 the two won the first ever conference League together beating fard 1-0 in the final with Smalling being named man of the match but following the Europa League success with Jose Antonio Valencia was awarded with a new contract the club Captain who saw himself give his all week in or week out eventually left the club as somewhat of a cult hero amongst a lot of the fan base he then went on to play in the Ecuadorian and Mexican League before retiring in 2021 unlike many players though who then Venture into maybe management or punditry Valencia has instead created his very own football club called av25 Club deportivo another former Winger turned fullback turned captain at man united is of course Ashley Young who is still playing football at the top level for Everton in the Premier League Young left United and joined into Milan where he went on to become only the third Englishman to ever win the Sera this saw him earn a move back to the Premier League to join former Club Aston Villa where after just one year he was released before being signed back again and being made Club captain that would be though until 2023 where he was released for real this time seeing him end up at Everton where the now 38y old still plays pretty consistently but as we move up to the Midfield we kick things off with one of the most decorated and underrated Premier League players in History Michael Carrick following the Europa League success he was crowned Club Captain however in November of that year he revealed he had to undergo a procedure for an irregular heart rhythm following dizziness during games the treatment was successful with Carrick seeing out the rest of the season before agreeing to join Jose in The Dugout as part of the coaching staff he assisted a rashford goal in his final game was given a standing evasion and even a guard of honor to thank him for his incredible success he had at United now he stuck around after Jose was sacked to continue as a coach under oiga solar before eventually replacing him in 2021 as first team manager for three games where he managed two fantastic wins over Villa roale and Arsenal as well as a draw against Chelsea after never losing a game as Manchester United interim manager middleb gave Carrick a chance to prove himself fulltime he had the best start to any manager in the club's history implementing a sense of belief that the club hadn't had for some time with his exciting style of football he even took them to the caribel semi-final for the first time since they won it in 2004 where they managed to beat Chelsea in the first leg before getting batted in the second regardless Carrick has proved that he has the capabilities to become a top level manager however one of the most iconic Manchester United players of this era was of course marowan Fellaini whilst the majority of fans wanted him sold every single summer I've got to admit he was pretty useful was see the face of the terrible boring football we played yes was it his fault no to this day I have never seen anyone with better chest control in the history of football you could launch the ball towards him at like the speed of sound and he would just cushion it like it was nothing he was shipped off to China in 2019 marking the end of a 5 and a half year career with the Red Devils before eventually retiring 5 years later in 20124 however one of the more favored players by the fan base during this time was Ander Herrera the Spaniard solidified himself as a bit of a hero during his time at the club thanks to his desire to give his very best every single game with his passion showing that he knew more about what it truly meant to be a United player than some of his other teammates nonetheless he left in 2019 as a free agent after the club failed to meet the demands he believed he deserved thus in a flood of Tears Herrera joined PSG truth be told his career never really got going again after this he was nothing more than just a bit part player in the French Capital who eventually had his contract cut short a year early so that they could lower the wage Bill amongst the squad thus he joined back up with anesto Valverde at the club he originally left to join United athletic BAU this hasn't stopped him publicly expressing his love for the Red Devils though as he even showed support for them on Instagram during ten Hog's Reign Over the club one of the biggest letdowns however has to be Jesse lingard he was talented to be a future England star is he seemingly defied expectations surpassing being just a talented footballer and becoming a fullon celebrity be it the jings brand or his dance moves lingard's infectious Vibes had everybody talking about him Trophy winning goals Milly rocks at the Emirates and then nothing that was until he completed a lone move to West Ham where he set the Leal light once again in that one season he scored more goals than he had done in his entire man United Career up to that point banging in nine this saw him become a hot transfer Target with lingard wanting to leave United in order for more playing time both the player and Club seemed to both be set for a happy ending but then quite mysteriously United blocked all transfers for him this was despite ranik telling lingard that he could leave the club twice in January in the end he was left to just rot away until the summer where his contract expired with lingard actually then turning down a move back to West Ham to join Nottingham Forest the decision was a surprising one but made sense when you realized he would become the highest paid player he signed on a one-year deal making 17 League appearances and scoring a grand total of zero goals whilst also failing to register a single assist in that time despite getting four goal involvements in the League Cup semi-finals lingard was released the following year and after ages without a club it was announced he'd sign on a 2-year deal with South Korean team FC Soul a move which was described as the biggest signing in K league history nonetheless it's been a terrible start with the manager even questioning his work ethic stating that his name alone has no value on the pitch if he can't be bothered trying moving on to one of the players that Jose actually sold during his time at Chelsea we've got Juan Mata after the europ League success together Mata scored the all important free kick against the Juventus in the Champions League which gave us one of the most iconic marinho clips of all time good performances and Love by the fans meant that Mata was rewarded with the contract extension taking him into Ole's time at the wheel quite controversially however he got another extension in the 2122 season despite many fans thinking it was probably Time to Say Goodbye to a cult hero and look to rebuild with the future in mind after winning four trophies for United though Mata did leave for Galatasaray where he won the league before moving a year later to join J One league club visell coob for one game hey he still picked up a winners medal when they won the league so you got to give it to him I suppose but next up is a player that is synonymous with what is commonly referred to as the worst swap deal in the history of football Henrik mkhitaryan now I've got to admit I had big expectations for this lad his former Dortmund had me believe that he was said to be a top 10 player in the world but to be honest his career United under Jose wasn't all that bad to begin with there was that iconic Scorpion Kick goal after all even if it was offside and Jud scored a better one a few days later anyway then the next season mkhitaryan assisted a record equaling five goals in his first four Premier League games however he was later dropped for poor form and never got back into the squad before joining Arsenal in 201 18 in a swap for Alexis Sanchez yikes to make matters worse he later scored against United he then should have gone to the 2019 eura League final with Arsenal to face Chelsea but because he was of Armenian descent he wasn't safely allowed into aaban thus he had to stay at home and watch his team lose a lone move to Roma was then made permanent reuniting with Jose where he too won the conference League success in Italy continued after a transfer to Inter Milan where he recently extended his contract until 2026 a player that has not seen success in Italy after leaving United however is the infamous Paul Pogba possibly the largest Fall From Grace in this entire video and one of the biggest cases of failed potential in football history after Jose signed the Frenchman for a then world record fee Pogba was expected to help drag United back to the very top of world football it did not go to plan I have an entire video covering his never ending nightmare already but to sum it all up everything that could have gone wrong for Pogba did injuries kept him from hitting consistent form I perceived lack of effort stopped him from hitting consistent form and that's not to mention falling out with managers to the point where Pogba and Jose were said to not even be on speaking terms with the Frenchman being referred to as a virus for the club but even after Jose left pogba's United Future was overshadowed with a Relentless merry goor round of speculation on him wanting to leave with Pogba publicly confirming this in the end for the second time in his United Career he left to join Juventus on a free transfer claiming in his documentary that he wanted to prove United was wrong to let him go in spite of this his first season was riddled with more injuries and then the season after that he was banned from football for 4 years due to doping meaning that we may actually have already seen the end of pogba's footballing career moving up the pitch we go from a Marine virus to a Mourinho fan favorite with Zlatan Ibrahimovic the swed bagged 28 goals in his first season United but suffered a terrible knee injury towards the end unfortunately for him and the club he never quite recovered prompting him to admit that it was time to move on as he had nothing left to offer and so Zlatan joined LA Galaxy That was supposed to be the end for him but this is Zlatan we're talking about and so he soon made his way back to European football rejoining AC Milan it truly was a match made in heaven he helped AC Milan return to Champions League football after finishing as Runners up in the Sera the season didn't come without its fair share of controversy though as Zlatan picked up a fight with former United teammate romelo Lukaku calling him a donkey receiving a €40,000 fine his season was then cut short once again by injury but he saw himself break over 500 career goals earning himself another contract extension the then 40-year-old helped Milan win the Sera for the first time in 11 years after one final contract extension Zlatan became the oldest Seria goal scorer at 41 for eventually announcing his retirement however just 6 months later he'd already returned back to the club as an advisor the signing of Zlatan United however marked the beginning of the end for Anthony martial first his shirt number was stripped from him and then his game time was severely reduced leading to him believing that Jose didn't respect him his opportunities out wide also disappeared with the signing of Alexis Sanchez despite starting the season in fine form with nine goals by January making him the club's top scorer being dropped then led to even more fallouts with Jose as martial eventually lost his place in the national team due to a lack of game time things soon looked up for the Frenchman though with O's arrival earning him a new contract at the club at one point he was player of the season after finishing as the top scorer with 23 goals and 12 assists despite missing two months through injury but there's the problem injuries martial's career just never got going again due to this very reason he had to play with injuries for a long time leading to a NeverEnding dip in form and eventually an injury that kept him from playing all together by the time he did return his form was beyond saving causing the club to send him out on loan as nobody was willing to match his wages for a permanent transfer this trip to S was labeled as a total failure by the Spanish media after he managed just one goal and one assist leading to the fans booing martial even back at United The Following season in the few games he did play he was met with more disappointed fans bringing us to now where he seems dead set on leaving the club for free never reaching the heights that everyone expected him to after that debut goal I guess we won't be needing to pay that balandor Clause at least a player fans do still hope reaches glorious Heights though is Marcus rashford Jose played him more than any other player in his opening season but even after the success with Mourinho rashford continued to shine including one of the most iconic goals in the club's recent history following the dramatic comeback versus PSG in the Champions League with Ole now full-time rashford hit back-to-back Seasons where he hit 20 plus goals but a persistent shoulder injury and a missed penalty in the Euros final with England saw his form fall off a cliff at this point other clubs such as PSG were interested in signing him but rashford backed himself to succeed at United and that he did The Following Season he became the first player since Rooney to hit 100 goals for the club and even after being dropped for being late to a meeting against wolves rashford still came off the bench to wow and win the game he was voted soat Busby Player of the Year and Club Player of the Year bagging 30 goals in the 2223 season he truly was one of the most inform players on the planet but it all went wrong again the next year despite signing a deal which saw him earn £325,000 per week rashford has entered possibly his worst form in a United shirt with some even questioning his commitment to the club nonetheless it's obvious that United value markers as their future and have no plans to change that anytime soon regardless of his form this season a player whose career rashford would be dreaming to emulate is of course Wayne Rooney now Rooney's final years at United were spent under Jose where he eventually became the club's pop goal scorer he then returned to Everton on a free where he scored from the halfway line similar to how he had done for United years prior then in 2018 he left England and joined DC United where again he scored from the halfway line he was named DC's MVP and Golden Boot winner but his time in the MLS came to an end pretty quickly as he returned to England to become a player coach for Derby County after a poor string of results manager Philip koku was sacked and soon after Rooney became the manager of the club retiring from professional football things went well but soon turned sour again resulting in a 21o reduction Rooney did all he could to try and keep Darby up but failed and ended up resigning from his role he rejoined DC United as manager before once again agreeing to to leave the club which saw him end up at Birmingham where it's safe to say things didn't go well as he was sacked after getting just two wins in 15 games now if you enjoyed this video then you'll probably enjoy the one on your
