hey what's going on guys i'm fab star welcome back to my cottage in today's video i'm going to be going after some fall walleye now i've got some beginner tips and tricks to get you guys started with walleye fishing if you stick around till the end of the video i'll share a super simple amazing pan-fried walleye recipe with you guys and we'll cook it up right here on my outdoor grill welcome to lake life [Music] good morning guys perfect fall day out here perfect day for some fall fishing now i thought i'd shoot a fishing tutorial aimed at the beginner basically to get some of you guys started with walleye fishing now i know a visit to your local fishing supply store can be pretty overwhelming and to be honest there's simply just a barrage of products out there that we don't really need now the goal today is going to be to keep things super simple we don't need down imaging we don't need side imaging we just need a fishing rod reel jig and a minnow and we're going to work the shoreline points and possibly an underwater hump so let's head down to the dock and i'll show you guys my setup [Music] all right guys for today we're going pretty much a plain vanilla rig so i've got a six foot medium flex rod and just a very basic spinning reel i've had this set up probably for 10 years it's all we really need this line's getting a little bit old so we're going to swap that out today and i'm going to try some braided line now it's supposed to have less stretch to it give you a little bit more feel so we'll test that out and try it today to install the line i'll open the bail then run the line through the eyes of the rod [Music] to secure the line to the spool tie an arbor knot by tying an overhand knot around the main line then a second overhand knot to prevent the line from slipping [Music] through [Music] tie on a swivel to prevent line twist add a jig and a minnow and you're good to go all right so that's our setup pretty basic i'm just gonna grab one more thing that i'm gonna need and i'll see you guys out on the water [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] all right guys now targeting these walleyes is obviously a really broad topic and it's going to vary from lake to lake now as a general rule in the north american mid-sized walleye lakes you'll find them somewhere between a depth of 10 and 40 feet they'll be in shallower water in the spring and fall and deeper mid-summer now they also require some sort of underwater structure for shelter and shade and access to nearby bait fish now you can find this underwater structure along shorelines points of land that extend into the lake and create underwater shelves and underwater humps i'm going to start by patrolling this shoreline at around 20 feet of water depth and see if we can get some action now i'll be bouncing this jig right off bottom ready to set the hook if i get a bite all right guys i'm in about 23 feet of water i'm feeling a tap here oh okay fish on i think he's small [Music] little guy it's a little guy we're gonna let him go okay i got this one another small one i think [Music] putting up a good fight though [Music] all right we got a perch here [Music] little lake of the woods perch we're gonna throw him back [Music] okay hook set another perch all right he's gonna go back [Music] that's what we're catching today all right guys another fish on [Music] this is nuts the perch are hitting today big time that's what i'm getting all day out here [Music] all right guys another fish on perch again getting some real nice decent sized perch today [Music] what in the heck is this this is the kind of stuff i'm getting today holy cow how could i have possibly hooked him like that and he is tiny just perch coming up today guys [Music] i may have to move to get away from these perch all right guys there's a lot of perch here i got a couple small walleyes so we're gonna move on we're gonna try a point maybe try some shallower water we'll see how that works out for us [Music] so [Music] so [Music] all right guys i'm going to use my trolling motor and just maneuver around this point i'm going to try a little bit shallower around 10 to 12 feet of water the water temps pretty cold right now so i'm guessing maybe they've moved up a little bit higher so we'll try that and see how it works out for us fish on guys nice one this one's a real fighter whoa nice walleye [Music] nice little leader [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] so [Applause] all right guys so we got exactly what we came for we got four perfect eater walleyes we're gonna head back to camp clean them up and cook them over the open grill [Music] [Applause] [Applause] so [Music] [Music] [Music] all right guys our top secret ingredient for our recipe plain old salt and vinegar chips can crunch them right up in the bag and we'll use the bag to mix the fish in [Music] let's see how it tastes [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] fantastic all right guys i'm gonna sign off i've got more fish to cook if you guys enjoyed this episode leave a like down below and subscribe over here for more videos thanks for watching and i'll see you guys on
