Walk Through Optimized Idle and Parksmart

hey guys this video is what is optimize idle and what is park smart so optimize idle that is a system within the freightliner cascadia where the truck can turn itself on and off automatically depending on the inputs that you put into the truck and then a park smart system is a factory battery-powered apu that is an option to be equipped on the freightliner cascadia i'm going to go into how to use these and how they both work together to keep your truck warm or cold depending on what you need for the night all right so we're inside a cascadia here and to turn on optimize idle which is recommended for use both with and without the park smart you're going to hit this button on the steering wheel twice so once twice this brings you to the optimized idle screen and then you'll hit ok on the steering wheel here one time it's going to ask you if you want the interior comfort mode off or on and to change through that you just hit the the button on the steering wheel here beside okay you'll see that switches to on or off i can cycle through now you would typically want the interior comfort mode off if you have a park smart that will fire up the engine only when the batteries are low so your park smart is running out of power it'll charge itself for approximately two hours before shutting down again so you continue to have a maintained cabin temperature if you do not have a park smart more often than not it's recommended to use this interior comfort mode as on and that way the truck will idle when needed to keep the cabin temperature where you need it to be to actually engage if once you've chosen if you want to have the interior comfort mode on or off so i'm going to choose off because this truck is equipped with a park smart i'll hit ok then you'll see this the engine brake light is on there in the bottom left that means that the optimized idle system is engaged and working also it says on the screen here standby mode engine may start and stop automatically so i've jumped in the back in the bunk here of the cascadia so this truck is equipped with park smart but this will apply to both trucks with and without park smart so the fan here must be at least one setting so it won't operate properly if you're off here you have to have the fan on to some level there and it's also important to know that this gauge is acting as a thermometer so typically you want it about right here which is about room temperature if you're using a park smart system having it all the way down to the bottom here is going to force the truck to try and keep itself a little bit too cold and typically the apu doesn't like that so you want to have that right around here is usually where you'd like it and to engage the park smart system just click the button one time there and you can hear the park smart has just turned itself on and the cabin temperature will maintain itself that's it for the operation of optimized idle and the park smart system really is pretty easy but if you have any questions you can always feel free to call us here at first truck center whatever your local location may be
