it's February 2024 and there is a lot new in GitHub co-pilot let's see we've got hey code not yet inline chat live mode context variables and a whole lot more this is everything new for GitHub co-pilot as of February 2024 let's go first off you can now change the font for inline suggestions with the inline suggest font family setting and by the way here's an interesting font called monocraft based on the Minecraft font Link in the video description but this changes the font in your ghost text as you can see and in the spirit of responsible usage of AI there is a new setting that will ask you to confirm before saving code that was generated by co-pilot this is on by default and applies when you have a file with suggestions that you haven't yet accepted you can now trigger co-pilot with the hey code verbal command to so wake GitHub co-pilot with the keyword activation setting in accessibility and you can change how it interacts with copilot here and if saying Hey to computers to interact with them is really not your thing you can also just trigger The Voice interaction by holding down command or control and I and speaking and then letting go of the I will also end the conversation and as a quick reminder all of the speech functionality that you see here does require the free V code speech extension inline chat has a new streaming experience called live which we encourage you to try out to enable it change the inline chat setting to live knowing what context copilot has is critical so we've added some context variables that you can use to really hone your prompts there's a new file variable that will let you include a specific file in your chat prompt co-pilot tries to send the the whole file when you do that but if it's too big it'll send an outline of the functions and descriptions but without the implementations and last but not least in the previous versions of co-pilot chat we would automatically include the editor space as context for your prompt but we found that this could lead to some confusion when you're asking a general question that has nothing at all to do with the code in the editor space so we've made that a context variable now too so use the editor variable to include all the code in the editor space here and that's everything that's new for GitHub co-pilot as of February 2024 check back next month for more updates and as always happy smart [Music] coding
