a lot of people will say since adele's surgery she's kind of lost her edge she can't hit the nose she can hit let's find out [Music] this is a live performance which i'm a huge fan of in this river [Music] i know there is hope in these waters but i can't bring myself [Music] adele is masterful at registerical change when she changes from chest to head back from head to chest and she does this constantly by the way throughout her songs especially in this one there ain't no gold in the first line before she even takes a breath right and then i loved how she did silence baby lemmy she's also really smart at using closed mouth vowels to be that catalyst and that jumping point from where she changes from chest to head or from head back down to chest [Music] i love this chorus by the way however when she did it in the recording it was a little different here she's pausing the first part's the same again chest ahead it's like a yodel or like a complete vocal break there intentionally really beautifully done and again she's going from that open mouth vowel in the o to a closed mouth e which makes it a perfect climate to change by the way so but then she's cutting off the e on the easy to take a quick catch breath separate the sound and change from that head voice tooth chest i think she's doing this because it's probably easier for her to repeat this and sustain this in a live performance versus a recording because in the recording she did easy on me here she's going easy babe neither are wrong i always wonder when artists do something different live if it's because in the recording there was some sort of comping or some sort of like vocal magic or tuning or whatever they did to make that sound really cool but it's recorded so it doesn't necessarily have to be sustainable and then when they go to live they kind of change stuff up so i wonder if it's a stylistic choice here or if it's because of a functionality or sustainability issue [Music] beautiful change there [Music] see now there it was just like the recording world feed me she did not pause between the word the and the word world she just went straight into the head to chest change let's keep going [Music] h there very poppy she's just so classy so poised to styled love her there you know very deep [Music] there notice there how she did both so deeply stuck in in a ways singing through n's and m's those semi-phonatable consonants that's a terrorism are very very hallmark pop style choices okay and she is such a queen of doing this she's also masterful at getting into the very pocket the very center of that rhythm it's so in the center that you just can't help but move from side to side and feel the beat yourself and she's kind of doing it herself even in the second verse you see her kind of doing this getting into the beat into the groove a little bit more as she's kind of warmed up into the song [Music] a lot of people will say since adele's surgery she's kind of lost her edge she can't hit the notes she can hit i will say this adele's voice has always been heavy but that's part of what makes her so great that big beefy heavy sound that billowing sound is what makes notes like you can't deny that that heftiness to her voice is part of what makes her adele people so that heaviness also lends itself to having a hard time hitting really high notes and sustaining really high notes because there's a lot of heft and a lot of weight to it unlike a singer like more set who has a naturally higher pitched voice and a higher pitched speaking voice adele is a true alto she can hit higher notes outside of alto range but she's an alto i know because it takes one to no one but this heft is not a bad thing and it's not because of her surgery it's not because she's losing her edge it's just because that's the kind of singer that she is and praise god for it there's [Music] beautiful [Music] okay so right there when she went what i chose to do singers can use this for style sake because adele clearly didn't use it to check her pitch's sake but you can use this as a singer to check your pitch this is a great live performance trick where people will not notice when you're checking your pitch you go on a closed semiphonatable constant like an m or an n or even sometimes a b and you sing the pitch of the open mouth vowel in that semiphonatable consonant so what i chose to do instead of what i chose to do and it just gives you this one little small second where you can tune your note before you sing your phrase and it almost guarantees 100 success every single time it's a trick that i use with my students all the time and it never fails [Music] [Laughter] [Music] let's see here okay now the only thing only thing i'm being so nitpicky here i just wish she really nailed that top she kind of just tapped the top note i wish she would have gone just get it girl you know you can i just wish she could give me a little bit more aggression on that top note and then kind of gone into the good which is the head voice part of it [Music] that's amazing placement see that note that's one note below the eye note okay she could totally hit it again this is live performance you kind of get what you get and you don't get upset right you hope for the best and you plan in your body to get it out but sometimes it doesn't come out exactly the way we intended i don't know i'm not adele if she intended to just tap that top but i do know she certainly made up for it and this part right there it's proof that she does have the range she does have the power and the control and when she expands the vowel while singing the show that to me is just like vocal magic there because that's hard to do it takes a lot of vocal control and it shows on the show note that i can move and i can morph and i can kind of bend the quality of that note while maintaining the integrity of the pitch that's not easy to do [Music] [Music] i don't know why i love that so much [Music] again love that breath there on the me what poise look at her she's just standing there because she's adele i don't have to sing another note i already did my job heck yeah dell amazing if you like this video you've got to see this one next
