Vivek Ramaswamy: I’m not another ‘super PAC puppet’

hello from Fox News in Washington just one month from now the Republican candidates for presidents are set to face off for the first time in Milwaukee but first they have to get to the debate stage polling is just one part of the rnc's criteria and today new polls from Fox Business lay out where the GOP race for the White House stands in two key States so let's get straight to it first to Iowa and the first in the nation caucuses in a survey of Iowa Republicans former president Trump leads by 30 points among likely caucus scores followed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis at 16 percent and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott at 11 percent and in South Carolina the former president leads by more than 30 points with the state's former Governor at 14 percent Nikki Haley governor DeSantis at 13 percent in the state's current Senator Tim Scott at 10 percent of course A lot can happen between now and the debates and certainly between now and the first primary contest has 24. so we're tracking every detail for you and joining us now is one of the contenders Republican presidential candidate Vivek ramaswamy the vague welcome back to Fox News Sunday it's good to be on Shannon okay so let's start with these polls first of all we've got Iowa you are in fourth place there but trailing the president by 40 points the former president um and behind former president Trump by that amount and still in single digits let's move to Iowa there you are in sixth place 45 points behind president Trump's single digits rival campaigns say that these early States show that you can't really take off that you're not connecting with people one of the Rival campaigns gives this quote Vivek is like the fajitas that go by you at the restaurant they make noise look exciting and come on the fun plate but if you order it it's too much too annoying to assemble and you wish you had just ordered tacos the article goes on to quote another rival campaign saying that you've barely raised any money outside what you've given to yourself they don't think you have a long-term play do you absolutely Shannon we are on the rise to win this election and I am the one candidate in this race who's actually leading us to something to our vision of what it means to be an American that is resonating with voters across the country I began in March at 0.0 in the polls look at the national polling averages now I'm consistently polling at third nationally and that's ahead of even the first debate when many people of this in this country haven't yet gotten to know who I am so I think we're on the same trajectory or ahead of where Donald Trump was in 2015 I'm nationally polling against a head of a former vice president numerous Governors and U.S senators and I think we're just getting warmed up as the Grassroots across this country are absolutely responding to our message and on the fundraising side Shannon I'll tell you this one thing that is different about me is that I'm not a Super PAC puppet you're right that a lot of the other candidates have advertisements already spreading across TV funded by their super Pacs what what's lifting us up is the small dollar donors we're approaching 70 000 unique small dollar donors that have lifted this campaign up in addition to the large sizable personal Investments that I've made and now my my whole point is we don't want a Super PAC puppet we want an independent voice and a patriot who actually speaks the truth that's what I'm bringing to the race okay let's talk about there's King direct shots at him that you're not you're not running against him you've talked about that you think that you could possibly pardon him should you have become president he's potentially facing another round of federal charges in connection with January 6th here's some of what you said just a week after that actually happened in real time one of your tweets you said what Trump did last week was wrong downright abhorrent plain and simple you've referred to the disgraceful Capital Riot and Trump's egregious behavior in one of your books you went on to say that he lost then wrongfully claimed he didn't lose the election that it was stolen and then raised millions of dollars off of his supporters so why are you and the other candidates now so quick to defend him are you worried about the punch back you would take for him if you're actually critical of that behavior now to the contrary Shannon I've been consistent all along that I would have made different judgments than Donald Trump made that is why I am running in this race for the presidency the same race that he's in because I would have made different and I believe better judgments for the country but a bad judgment is not the same thing as a crime and when we conflate the two that sets a dangerous precedent for this country I don't want to see us become some Banana Republic where the party in power uses police force to arrest its political opponents now that I'm third in the National polls self-interestedly it would be much easier for me to win this election if Trump were not the front-runner if Trump were eliminated by the federal administrative police state but that's not the right thing for the country to my critics Shannon I think they're right about one thing I am not running against anyone in this race I'm not running against my fellow GOP Primary contenders I'm not even strictly running against Biden I am running for this cut country and I think that's something we've long missed in our conservative movement too long we have been running from something I am leading us to something but the reality two-hour vision of what it means to be American I think that'll be successful the reality of a primary is that you do have to convince people to pick you over over these other candidates so we'll see I know that you're feeling confident about making the debate stage but that's where some of these dust ups are going to have to happen as you guys try to differentiate from each other I want to talk about foreign policy you've made a lot of headlines there but let's start with China here's what former president Trump said about President XI just days ago but think of President XI Central Casting brilliant guy you know when I say is brilliant everyone says oh that's terrible you call it well he runs 1.4 billion people with an iron fist smart brilliant everything perfect there's nobody in Hollywood like this guy you've enormous threat you think China is especially coupled with Russia but that description of him as brilliant and an iron fist I mean this is a man that most of the world consider considers a dictator how would you describe president G like President Trump does Xi Jinping is a dictator and China is the top threat that the United States faces I think I'm the clearest candidate Shannon in offering a clear path to declaring economic independence from China that's the first step in our policies if that had been a Russian spy balloon flying over half this country we would have shot it down immediately and ratcheted up sanctions the reason we didn't do it for the Chinese spy balloon is that fundamentally we're afraid of our own economic dependence on them so I've offered a clear plan I would re-enter trade relationships elsewhere in the Pacific that is different from Trump's strategy and that would put me in a position to lead our declaration of independence from China I've also said that I would end the Ukraine war on terms that require Putin to exit his military alliance with Xi Jinping that Russia China Alliance is a military threat and off I've offered a clear path of how to pull them apart you're right I have qualified for the debate stage and this is one of the areas where I'm deaf from every one of the other candidates in the field and I think it is good for us to have this debate about National Security this is what affects American interests China's the top threat and I see my foreign policy through that lens and you you mentioned the interaction between China and Russia they have this no limits friendship you've warned that that partnership together is uh potentially devastating to the rest of the world and you mentioned your plan for Ukraine here's how the Washington Post describes it Russia would have to agree to end its military alliance with China as you mentioned withdraw nuclear weapons and systems from surrounding areas rejoin the non-proliferation start Accord in exchange the agreement would seed most of the donbos region in eastern Ukraine to Russia and it would end any efforts to have Ukraine join NATO so first of all it's not our land to give away that's something that they would have to negotiate but why reward this murderous behavior of Vladimir Putin by giving him what he wants on a couple of fronts that land that's not rightfully his and keeping him out of keeping Ukraine out of NATO which is one of the things he was most objecting to and said that was one of the reasons behind this completely illegitimate land grab Shannon with due respect NATO was created to deter the USSR the USSR does not exist anymore yet NATO has expanded more after the fall of the USSR than it ever did during the ussr's existence so I think we have to ask the question of what advances American interests and to me the top American interest is pulling apart the russia-china alliance that ends the Ukraine war that stops us from having to fund another hundreds of billions of dollars to protect somebody else's border that we could be using to protect our own border and more importantly this is also how we deter Xi Jinping from going after Taiwan XI jinping's bet is that the U.S will not want to go to war with two Allied nuclear superpowers Russia and China at the same time but if Russia is no longer in XI jinping's Camp then China will have to think twice before going after Taiwan that is how we deter the invasion of Taiwan while avoiding going to war accomplishes both goals if president XI sees that Putin went and took land and that the West agreed to give him chunks of land that are not his how does that deter ji from then not going after Taiwan this is where I differ from the consensus in both the Republican party and the Biden Administration Xi Jinping does not reason based on analogy he reasons based on hard power right now Russia has the largest nuclear stockpile in the world I worry that we're going closer to nuclear war with Russia they also have Hypersonic missile capabilities ahead of that of the U.S combine that with China's Naval capacity more naval ships than the U.S in addition to our economic independence on China that puts China in a strong position however if Russia is no longer allied with China that actually weakens XI jinping's position that is how we both end the Ukraine war and address the Taiwan situation while avoiding war in one Fell Swoop and it is shocking to me Shannon that nobody in either political party is talking about it which gives me greater confidence and I have a deep understanding of the geopolitics here this gives me a greater conviction that it will take an outsider to get that deal done and to affect actively negotiate a deal yes in a good deal everyone has to get something out of the trade Putin will get something out of it but America will get far more in return that's how we secure our national security interests all right very quickly before you go I got to ask you about my favorite topic which is the Supreme Court you have released another page out of President Trump's book a list of Supreme Court nominees and also federal court judges it's not just the Supreme Court but lower level as well New York Times magazine or New York Magazine and the Intelligencer describes it this way if you're a lower court judge who's gotten notice for attention grabbing extremist rulings on hot button issues even if they were overturned on appeal you've got a good shot at appearing on ramaswami's list you know how divisive these confirmation battles have gotten what do you make of the assessment of your nominees I think that that assessment from The New York Times or New York Magazine is probably the appropriate assessment if we're picking the right judges as I believe we have I think the Supreme Court has done an outstanding job over the last two years I do think that was President Trump's one of his Great accomplishments what I've done is one of my top objectives Shannon is to restore the Integrity of our constitutional republic with three co-equal branches of government I'm going in as U.S president to shut down the Deep State the administrative State and so what we've done here with these judges is found judges who share my originalist understanding of the Constitution who share my views on the unconstitutionality of the deep State the administrative state but who at the same time understand the unique threats to Liberty in the 21st century so I've led the way in this race already I'm the only candidate who has identified specific judges both for appellate courts as well as the Supreme Courts and I think that's what's driving our recent surge in polling across the country Shannon is the specifics that I'm offering not just on policy but increasingly on personnel as well and that transparency I think is going to
