Visiting VUKOVAR, a city of HEROES in CROATIA!

so we're just packing everything up now and we are going to be on our way in just a few minutes to bukobar which is our next destination in our slavonian adventure so we're just packing up everything now loading it all into the car and off we go to Google [Music] all right now we are ready to go uh we had really really really nice Airbnb hosts and had a really great apartment here in jacoville those people are really nice and the apartment is amazing they gave us wine they get chocolates we'll leave a link in the description below if you want to check this out because I think this is seriously the best uh Airbnb you guys where are we going we're going to the West adjustable um North South East our very favorite part of traveling is packing and unpacking and packing and unpacking isn't it we just have a thousand things when you travel with small kids obviously so just packing and unpacking is our least favorite part of traveling we parked and now I think we're just gonna go take a little walk by the river this is the Danube River in front of me kids found the park so we're gonna let them just get there stretch their legs it's so hot here today I don't think we expected it to be so hot we're just heading over to the water tower now that'll be our first stop in bukovar so we're gonna climb up to the top um they have a nice Lookout Point and there's a lot of history with that water tower [Music] here we go guys I can see everything oh my God the tower was built over five years from 1963 to 1968 and it's 50 meters tall so we took the elevator up but you can also do the stairs if you want a bit of an extra workout here is the memorial floor the first um floor that you can go on to so it just shows what happened here through the Croatian War of Independence foreign was under siege these two men kept climbing up this Tower time and time again to replace the creation flag that kept being destroyed from all the shelling and through this extremely dangerous time they kept replacing it with a fresh undamaged one and this really gave the people a vukovar hope and strength through this truly horrific time Unfortunately they did not survive the war but they've become Croatian Heroes and Legends thank you definitely an emotional Museum just detailing everything that happened here during the creation war of independence definitely a really well done Memorial center really shows what happened here just for it to be in this building so um symbolic to book about in Croatia it's really moving that's about all we have time for today we now saw the water tower I think we're just gonna grab some lunch and have a rest afternoon and then tomorrow we'll start fresh in the morning and explore more um we'll see you all tomorrow good morning everybody we are now day two in volkovar this morning our first stop isesta which is a tank graveyard we are going to see now a real pan yeah real tank guys it has a long nose here is the exhibit for the tank here and this road actually is where Yugoslavian Army was trying to take over this city they were coming down this road Croatian Army was able to destroy over 400 tanks and urban Vehicles along this road so here they have this Memorial set up or the brave soldiers that defended and Croatia in front of me here is a statue of La gozadro he was the commander of defense for the Croatian Army and he is a war hero in Croatian history okay we're now walking over to a place of memory here the memorial hospital there is a memorial exhibit down in the basement showing the conditions that patients and doctors were in throughout the siege even though this hospital was clearly marked as a hospital constantly hit by missiles so everybody had to go to the basement including the wounded and Hospital staff one of the hospital beds they used oh one day one of the world yeah yeah and then also this Yep this is different stuff like oxygen and look at them all lined up like this in the hallway you guys this is so sad oh my gosh these like doctors and nurses were so brave it says here that about 70 to 80 grenades per day Fell in This Hospital [Music] oh holy moly that's where I guess it got hit foreign [Music] ER it was born to it was born a little bit early and so it had to be in the incubator to help it a little bit oh you couldn't be with this Mommy uh his mommy was there oh my gosh this is crazy so they were sleeping guys you know that on all these beds this is a safer spot for them to be just showing how they you know were here all together and trying to support each other and care for each other maybe yeah maybe Yep this is a shelter so they close these big doors because then they'd be protected they would close those and it would be a really secure shelter that must have been so traumatic I just cannot even begin to imagine what those people were going through they had to do a makeshift setup in a bomb shelter just really gives you like a a realistic picture of how things were and just how unbelievably sad it all was so we're now back in town we're going to walk through The Pedestrian uh Zone here to get to the river where there's a bridge there's the river that runs through here that actually separates slavonia and seriem two different parts of Croatia the bridge is dedicated to Jean-Michel Nicole John Michelle came to volkovar to help fight against the Injustice that was going on he was actually wounded and he was brought to the hospital where we just were he was only 25 years old at the time he actually didn't even have any creation Roots he just saw what was going on here and he thought that it was awful and he wanted to do some bit to help he was taken from the vocabot hospital where we just were along with over 200 other people and they were horrifically killed there are just so many tragic stories in bukobar this this and I hit every bar at the right time you should be able to hear the national anthem so I'm going to try to do it and let's see if we can do it here we go did I do it right I think that I passed the test behind me here is a representation of a figure that was found that's actually from 3000 BC which makes it 5 000 years old this is obviously a big replica of it but the actual original small figurine located in vertical and we're gonna go there a little later on this afternoon they actually don't even keep the original anymore they keep it in Zagreb so it's a little more protected I guess so we're hoping to make it to Virtual this afternoon so we can go to their Museum when one of the grenades fell I guess it didn't explode and it just kind of stuck in the ground so they made it into a kind of a showcase as you could see porvo is a famous shoe company that comes from vocaba and they have these special shoes these really famous shoes called starters they're a famous Croatian brand so we're gonna go see if they have some for the whole family we'll see these ones do you like those ones I like these these ones pronounced wow thank you mine and Ollie's are almost the same I just don't have the sparkle that all he has Unfortunately they didn't have a sparkle for adults just for kids are made in Croatia I think they were originally made for table tennis and they just became kind of popular uh with the style all got ourselves a pair of sarthas and we're all gonna rock them for the rest of the day you should say something about borosana this was legendary people from my childhood Adam Supreme [Music] left right left [Music] after the Turkish rule German counts else bought a large portion of bukobar and then building of the castle started in 1749. today it's one of the most impressive buildings of the Baroque Period in all of Croatia the castle was the first building to be bummed by air in the Croatian war of independence and it was completely destroyed throughout the war but they renovated and all of the Reconstruction was finished in 2011. today the else Castle holds the Museum of the city of bukobar foreign and they don't even keep it here anymore because they're too scared that somebody's gonna steal it so they keep it in Zagreb now boxing shoes huh Olivia and I are exploring this really cool virtual culture Museum there are so many artifacts here different settlements all the way back I think 6000 BC here they're showing what like a buchadoska Kucha would look like like a house in Wichita [Music] [Music] this Crosshair was made with Stone from Branch Island and from istria it was a gift from the Croatian National Navy just to commemorate all of the soldiers who lost their lives in the creation war for independence we just came down here to enjoy a little Sunset over the Danube River and this is just where the Danube meets with the Bucca River so we just thought we'd walk down by the water and have a little sunset on the Danube tonight foreign [Music] foreign
