hey everyone it's ryan marge from disney files magazine and i'm heading over to my friend ashley eckstein's house if you're a star wars fan you probably know ashley is the voice of ahsoka tano you may also know that she is a great author and fashion designer and entrepreneur and philanthropist and recently became the owner of a new home where she's creating some really cool disney inspired living spaces that i think you're gonna dig now she did ask me before we arrived to tell you that everything we're about to see today is in the very early stages of design and development so i assured her that we would come back for a later episode when all the work is completed you will also meet her husband david eckstein who happens to be one of my all-time favorite major league baseball players not sure how big a vote he got in all this design work but we'll ask him when we get there and there is one other guest a surprise guest that you will meet at ashley's house all right see you there [Music] hey david how's it going thank you hi ryan this is this chair is just a normal sized chair a little known fact about ashley in real life she's only 18 inches tall things are getting really curious around here or should i say curiouser and curiouser welcome to wonderland my favorite disney movie is alice in wonderland and i have always wanted to be alice so i have a very amazing husband and he has allowed me to turn our home and this wasn't your first choice furnishings but this was this was non-negotiable the whole vision for downstairs is the english countryside so think the scene in the beginning with alice in wonderland where she sings the song in a world of my own um and in alice's world everything is nonsense so downstairs is the english countryside with hints of nonsense so eventually we'll have some furniture here i have a massive tea collection and alice collection i constantly change this out with my favorite things that's been fun picking out each of the mismatched chairs too i love it we did and nothing is uh is accident so um i had the best time working on the house because my childhood best friend my friend meredith actually is uh i'm so proud of her i'm a proud friend she is a big-time interior designer now and um she works on homes you know in our neighborhood and um so we actually did this we designed the home together this wall over here will eventually be covered in mismatched clocks and art and pictures we're actually going to have a white rabbit running you know down the wall and it's going to be mary blair's art because i love mary blair okay so this doesn't look like much now but as you go up the stairs you are leaving the english countryside and now you are entering wonderland of course or i guess i should say you're falling down the rabbit hole into wonderland because right here is going to be the door to wonderland so we have the knob and everything um so you come upstairs [Music] and the only thing is it's mostly wonderland but my favorite disney princess is cinderella so i do have a nod to cinderella up here and i actually have a friend that you know because um this friend introduced us um i actually have brett iwin the official voice of mickey mouse up here doing some concept art for me for upstairs hey brad hello sir hello how are you good i'm just sitting here in my little corner she's she keeps you chained to that desk tonight brett is taking photos of the room and then drawing what it's going to look like on top of it yeah it's it's one of the best ways i've figured out to you know help visualize a concept okay so now we're going to leave cinderella's castle and we're gonna go back into wonderland this will eventually look like the painting the rose has read the queen of hearts uh scene from the movie and i'm excited about this area because there's gonna be it's gonna be lined with faux hedges so actual faux hedges i like that they're actual faux hedges because faux faux hedges no good well okay so david david's not here so there's currently a negotiation in place um i would like to have a croquet set here again it's be negotiated can i get a little time here i would love to have the opportunity ryan to show you what i actually got to get in this house i was very fortunate very fortunate to get this nice little corner let's go david really gotta talk about the croquet set thing in here ash was so gracious to give me the mud room that we have turned into it's gonna be actually ash has called it david's corner and okay so this is inspired by casey's corner and as i mentioned i love casey's corner um you know i what can i say after going to probably a thousand baseball games in eight seasons when david played um i love hot dogs i do mickey mouse's first words by the way hot so here you go david's corner yeah which is definitely i mean i loved doing this sketch because i love turn-of-the-century design and that's main street right so it was kind of fun to think of how to incorporate some ballpark things we were so excited to show you the before and i'm even more excited to show you the after we'll be back all right thank you thanks for watching hey there ryan how are you i'm back how are you hey ryan back in your chair i imagine this is where you are all the time help you down from your perch yes so excited to see this well welcome to wonderland um we have added quite a few details since you last came and this is my gallery wall which will be constantly changing because i have a ton of alice in wonderland art oh let me show you this over here um i've added a lot of my personal collection so this is my prized possession i have a first print edition of alice's adventures in wonderland i actually got this i think when i was five or six years old my mom bought it on main street usa at walt disney world so that was back when they had one-of-a-kind pieces and this is an actual bone china set um that i've kept all these years you didn't break it as a child congratulations there's a few broken pieces all right ryan we're going into the casita and instantly you go through the looking glass and then into wonderland but this is a more sophisticated wonderland this is a very inspired by wonderland but i didn't know how to do that so i'm a very special guest to introduce you to because this is one of my best friends in the entire world this is meredith carey and she's my interior designer we've known each other since fifth grade and i'm so lucky that meredith designed my home so nice to meet you so nice to meet you your work is beautiful thank you so much it was a pleasure to work with ashley it was a dream come true it was when she called me about her house and me being able to work on it with her it was amazing i was ecstatic to help her make her dreams come true i've been hearing about alice and alice in wonderland our whole life so it was awesome to get to work together on this project i knew i wanted to use this side table this is my grandmother's side table from her old bed set i really wanted this to be a pop of color and then to finish off the room since this is our guest suite i wanted to make something that brought together what all of my friends and family have given me and they all give me alice in wonderland t-shirts so i made a t-shirt quilt it says follow me to wonderland so let's go to wonderland [Music] okay ryan so as i said this is the english countryside but when you go upstairs you're going into wonderland and as promised here is the little door i love that and then at the top of the wall you'll see mary blair singing flowers so but let's go now we're going to go down the rabbit hole but up the stairs to wonderland that makes sense all right so this room looks a little different since the last time you saw it so this is our queen of hearts painting the roses red room so we have our queen of hearts bed just as brett drew it up exactly it looks great exactly it really came to life we have our headboard inspired by the tokyo disneyland hotel which is a favorite of mine and then we have our bunk room which my nieces and nephews are obsessed with so they can't wait for a sleepover and then of course this is my favorite i mean we have the playing cards peeking over the hedges we also have a cloud chandelier which is actually activated to your voice so ryan as you see i had a bit of a negotiation last time with david about a croquet set and as you can see i won i don't think you win many of these negotiations around here do you you see the house come on man you gotta admit this is pretty cool it's actually really cool you want to play of course [Music] the only time i'll ever be david eckstein at anything now ryan if you remember not every room is inspired by wonderland ashley this is beautiful thank you amazing this is our cinderella royal suite this is inspired by cinderella sweet in the castle i have my childhood rocking chair and then one of my favorite parts is our quilt now my mom made us this quilt this is actually our aisle runner from our wedding oh i have to show you this this is one of my prized possessions i actually had the honor and privilege of staying in the castle david and i got to spend the night in cinderella's castle and they give you this glass slipper when you spend the night in the castle it actually has my name on it but my favorite part and the whole room is the thinking corner now as you can see from the rest of the house i love mary blair like i just am obsessed with mary blair so this is a piece of concept art um from mary blair of the fairy godmother but then when you sit in the chair i have my favorite quote from the rogers and hammerstein musical where it says in my own little corner in my own little chair i can be whatever i want to be this came out just so beautifully just perfect thank you so much now speaking of corners we have one more corner in the house to show you david's real estate yes david's corner let's go dave can you believe this i've been waiting all all day to see this oh my gosh yes so this is my she gave me a little bit of space and this was created by brett this was all brett's idea and he brought it to life and i think he did a fantastic job this is actually um my world series bat from 06 that i got the majority of hits with but in game five i actually broke it and so but was able to get it and put it in the case this is what you really resonate with it's a lifelong angels fan ryan angel fan so actually my glove from the 2002 world series so it yeah that is that yeah i gotta tell you so lifelong baseball fan and angel fan something i shared with my dad who i lost recently and one of my favorite memories with my dad was watching this moment of you hosting that trophy he would just think this is so cool that i'm standing here today it was an honor the fans there are outstanding so yeah well this space is just thank you so great much like you and your career may not be the biggest but certainly certainly among the best i know my place i know my place again i can't thank you both enough for letting us invade your space this is just amazing i came in with really high expectations based on my first visit and this truly blew me away it's amazing and next time i come back i want to take out one of those gloves and go have a catch definitely now ryan i'm so glad that you could drop in and see the final design see what you did there you
