this video is kindly brought to you by Squarespace the all-in-one platform to create a beautiful online presence [Music] hi my name is Janelle and welcome back to Rosary apparel today I'm headed to my favorite suburb of Tokyo shimakita zawa to do a little bit of thrifting and I'm of course going to be bringing you with me so I can show you just how incredible this area of Tokyo is and why I love it so much the last few times I've gone to shimakitazawa I have felt a little bit overwhelmed just because there's so many beautiful things and so many interesting vintage shops to look through and I often Come Away with absolutely nothing so today I'm going to try and take my time with it and just go through the shops nice and slowly so I can hopefully Come Away with a few gems today [Music] is just a quick 10 minute train ride away from Shibuya station and is a suburb of Tokyo that is jam-packed with used clothing stores and vintage boutiques each store is so beautifully curated and filled to the brim and you easily need at least a full day to explore them all [Music] the prices of each store is varying with the vintage boutiques being a little bit on the expensive side but they are absolute treasure troves and filled with so many beautiful pieces if I was to find just one item from any of these stores back in the thrift stores at home I would absolutely need to purchase it but because everything here is so beautiful it's really easy to get completely overwhelmed with decision fatigue and Come Away with absolutely nothing but this time I am determined to not let that happen [Music] thank you [Music] now let me show you some of my must go to shops while in shimakita zawa first up is shimakita Pucci cushion I'm not sure if that's exactly how you pronounce it but it's just a small sliver of a shop that is completely overflowing with vintage clothing and is definitely the most dreamy shop in the area foreign place that I think used to be called shimakita garage but it's now just called Toyo department store which is basically a warehouse type space filled with multiple different vintage Sellers and handmade artists I could honestly spend hours in here there is just so much to look at [Music] this next shop is one that I'd actually never been in before mainly because it's not a vintage shop and I have a one track mind for vintage when I'm in shimakitazawa it has a coffee shop on the bottom floor but as you go up the stairs you find these lovely pop-up spaces and this particular space was a pop-up of a handmade clothing designer called popo Coco and it was just such a beautiful find I'm so glad I stumbled upon it and the clothing was definitely very much my style foreign [Music] vintage shops there's also a fabric shop that I always stop into when I'm in shimakita called momenia Makino and oh my goodness this shop they have just filled it to the brim with so many beautiful Fabrics again that I could easily spend hours looking through everything even though the shop itself is absolutely tiny I of course had to pick up some fabric while I was there [Music] thank you [Music] foreign and another favorite of mine is New York Joe exchange and this particular New York Joe is located in an old public bath house building and remnants of the bath house can still be found throughout the store which I just love so much something else I love about New York Joe exchange is that the prices are very reasonable and you can find a range of used clothing and also some vintage pieces as well you can also swap your old clothes for New pieces but I've not actually tried that before so I'm not exactly sure how it works and my final tip for vintage shopping in shimikidazawa is if you are able to go up some stairs as many of the more affordable vintage shops are situated on the upper floors of a lot of the buildings and lastly if you've been to shimakita zawa before please let me know what your favorite shops are so I can go and check them out while I'm here so it's a few days later now and before I get in and show you everything I found while shopping in shimakitazawa let's just take a quick break to talk about the sponsor of this video this and let me show you what I found [Music] so just as I expected I was completely overwhelmed as soon as I got to shimakita zawa it had definitely changed a lot since I was there last but it was still just as incredible but yeah because you're so overwhelmed it's hard to focus on anything because everything is just so pretty and your eyes are just like darting all over the place so definitely didn't find as much as I was expecting but I'm also glad about that because the few items I did pick up I am very happy with and it also meant I didn't spend as much money which is good in saying that I did still spend quite a bit because yeah they're not cheap those vintage shops I'll try to pop the prices on the screen so you can get a bit of an idea of what the different items cost um there's a bit of a varying range but yeah without further Ado let me get in and let me show you what I found this first item here is just a really cute very simple blouse I was instantly drawn to the print and fabric of this one it's just got a really lovely golden floral print I'll also try to put some cutaway shots of me wearing all the pieces which I'm not gonna lie it's going to be pretty tricky in this tiny Tokyo apartment I don't really have anything in my wardrobe that is just a simple shirt blouse like this I love the fact that it has just short sleeves it's super casual nothing too fancy um the only thing I don't love about it is it doesn't have a top button so I'm pretty sure I'm going to add a button to the top here just so I can do it up all the way to the collar because I just personally like how that looks more I haven't actually tried it on yet so I might change my mind on that um we'll just see once I've dried it on but this piece here cost 3 900 Yen which is roughly a little over 40 Australian I think so yeah not exactly cheap but it is very cute it's also like a really nice material it definitely feels breathable and Airy which I think is going to be great for the Japan summer that we're going into next you would have seen I went to this cute little fabric shop it's actually one of my favorite fabric shops in Tokyo I go to it every single time I'm in shimakita zawa it's just such a small shop and it is completely jam-packed with all different types of fabrics and even though it is so full to the brim it is still so neat and tidy and super organized and I just love going in there and I always pick up a fabric when I go in there as well because it honestly is one of my all-time favorite fabric shops in the world so what I picked up you would have seen is this really cute cream floral cotton fabric it's just got the tiniest little floral polka dot print on it I thought it was so adorable and I ended up getting just under three meters next I found this super simple t-shirt and as soon as I saw it I had to have it because it's in my favorite the orange color I don't actually have a t-shirt in this color so I was really happy to pick it up and it was only 500 yen which is an absolute bargain and yeah I think it is going to be a great addition to my wardrobe this next piece is definitely the most expensive item I picked up while in shimiketazawa and that is this denim midi skirt basically a few weeks ago I went into this Boutique in Shibuya and I found this amazing denim midi skirt that I kind of fell in love with it wasn't quite exactly my style and it was quite expensive so I didn't get it but ever since finding that skirt I decided I wanted to either have a go at making something similar or yeah see if I could find something a little bit cheaper that was similar and then I saw this good um so I decided to try it on and as soon as I tried it on I fell in love with it it's definitely different to the one that I saw in Shibuya but I think I like this one even more what I love about it is it's got buttons all the way down the front it's also got some really lovely Deep Pockets in the side here like they're really deep which I just very much appreciate and it also has an elasticated waistband at the back and it's just at the back which means the whole overall look of the skirt doesn't look like it's elasticated but it still has the comfortableness that an elasticated skirt has it's also a really nice length as well like it's definitely a longer midi length which is kind of my preferred length at the moment it feels like an over exaggerated length I'm not sure if that makes sense at all but I really really love it and yeah this piece cost me do I still have the tag on they took the tag off but I still got the receipt so I'll put it on the screen now I think it was like 75 100 yen so a little over 80 Australian I'm pretty sure um so yeah not cheap but like I said I was after uh midi denim skirt like this and I'm just really glad that I found one that is vintage and the last item I have to show you is a bit of a bonus item because I didn't actually find it when I was shopping in shimakitazawa but instead found it in a vintage shop in Harajuku and that is this incredible dress oh it is just my dream dress like the fabric of it is everything I love in a fabric it's floral it's got those really burnt orange and brown tones in the colors and it's also got this beautiful pleated midi skirt which I am just obsessed with and I also really like how it comes with a matching belt too in the same fabric I just think that is so cute and I'll definitely be wearing it with the belt because I don't know just is the most adorable thing ever I can't remember exactly how much I paid for this but I think it was around 4 500 yen the tag is still on this dress it almost feels like this dress is handmade actually so it could be from a small designer I don't know I need to like research the label a little bit but the original price tag is 190 000 Yen so well over 200 Australian um so yeah 50 bucks for this dress I'm pretty happy with that actually so yeah that is everything I found while shopping in shimakitasawa I just am I most happy and most inspired when I'm in chemeketazawa it is by far my favorite suburb of Tokyo there's just something about it it's just a very dreamy very beautiful and there's so much going on so many different cafes to check out as well and oh I just had the greatest day mooching and shopping and just soaking up all the amazing inspiration that shimakitazawa has to offer I really hope that it came through in the video just how incredible it is there and if you are ever in Tokyo I 100 recommend you go check it out um it is just such a fun little suburb to explore so yeah I hope you enjoyed coming vintage shopping with me and if you did enjoy this video it would really mean a lot to me if you could give it a like and yeah don't forget to go and check out Squarespace the sponsor of this video and lastly I did just want to say a massive thank you to Matt who came shopping with me and filmed a lot of this video as well thank you so much for watching this video until the very end and I'll see you in the next one [Music] thank you [Music]
