we need to know aria is that the veggie bun me so that's no that's not vengeance so what's it made out of as you guys may know the podcast format is blowing up right now so we're gonna sit down with two comedians who run the biggest Asian focus comedy podcast in America might can fool me from Asian odd Asians I guess you could say we're hitting up Asian hipster food spots with Asian hipsters actually I don't even know if that's completely true but whatever I know this is crazy so I look in there and we found a doppelganger of Mik Mik recommending that we film at this spot in mixed doppelganger is in there right now I've never been I have very strong feelings about Vietnamese food we all are that I harvest and phoom phoom your mic from the Asian or Asian podcast it is the hottest Asian podcast in New York City let's go check it I'm sorry get some Brooklyn points today all right first up we're hitting up five spice in Brooklyn where we're getting bun meat tacos Mike is beat amis and originally from Orange County so apparently he's super picky and critical about his being in these food let's get his hot takes these are becoming more hipster we're in right now I'll say that we did a really good PR move with the foie and the Vietnamese talking I got to give credit to the Bund me I think that is like that's the new sandwich now in 2019 it is the sandwich I feel I'm mixed feelings it's like seeing your child grow up and like aren't you guys the food has arrived here at five spice these tacos in but when you look at this photo immediately are you like oh no oh no I you know think so you can make banks out you could be a god because bank sounds really difficult to like kind of control so the fact that they made it into a taco is like I got to give you props just for the attempt but we want you to represent for your entire room of course okay I do like I do like it took a minute for you to process it's sort of like you ever like do a VR headset and you're like you know you feel like you're you're seeing that you're on a roller coaster when you're not on a roller coaster you're not really sure what I think it looks like my mind in like this is a taco but then inside my mouth is psyche on so like it's like what's happening you know yo it's crazy that they're able to make a fun sale shell which is usually really crispy and crackles and shattered but it's flexible like a tortilla and it has that chew too now I'm going to try the broccoli Charlie got one here I have one here what yo fish sauce is a key ingredient in Vietnamese eating Bowl o'clock with actually some mango papaya salad on the side of the bowl o'clock this is a very popular dish these cubes are huge soon there these are definitely bigger than the average Bowl oh yeah they're very good if you're real Vietnamese you get you're gonna love this meat this grey one here it's called Sol LeWitt dalawa right is that the head cheese it is no it is a it is a pork roll it comes in the roll like the to get right it is like a it's like Vietnamese salami we got the bread here all right we got the pickled vegetables we got this looks like straight-up ham which is a little unusual but that's fine and then we got down low right here and then we got all the oh we got the mayonnaise that's really important I do like it and then also everybody knows this smart right here is the best part is where all the juices and everything I've gotten all at the bottom of the bread is to click the sandwich burger I have the veggie Bundy this is uh this is like veggie meat so there's not real meat although it looks like pork it's soy protein guys people a lot of many people are Buddhist and they don't eat meat so the meat thing is kind of like I don't want say it's new but it's not necessarily like you have to have meat and everything one thing I will say about soy protein is sometimes it has more flavor than the actual meat because you're able to pass more flavor into it I mean if this is not real meat and I will never have to kill a pig ever again because this is outstanding this is really good this tastes just like pork so that's no that's no so what's it made out of he's been amazing you cannot convince a very Vietnamese move to sell baby meat with this regular meaning but this is outstanding it's very good I'm really impressed we have a chocolate bar and this is a special is the spicy it has short rib in it it looks like bubble playoff when it comes to be Tamizh food I'm very right-wing okay I'm very like purity okay now keeping the culture clean but if you honor the culture because I feel this is like an extension of it what I look for with with BA is like is the broth pretty clear is there not a lot of like a little small oil bubbles on tops if you don't want too much to that you want the oil to be really clean okay rob is good that's usually the first thing I want to always be able to feel like I could just straight up drink this broth in a cup like just by itself and that would be good Wow yep yep I like it got its got the that five-spice taste all these yeah I can barely eat it alright we're wrapping it up here at five-spice a modern Vietnamese restaurant now we got to go to a modern Japanese restaurant but guys first make sure to hit the like button on this video let's go all right pinion on the following people I'm just gonna name a name Ali won't know so dope you know what people that kind of don't also don't talk about is that uh she really brings a bay area this kind of humor to the world like PBX like obviously her movie always be my maybe hat was set in the Bay Area so there's a lot of like really cool Bay Area think she's really reppin that people don't know about there's a lot of Bay Area jokes in it that you don't we wouldn't pick up on unless you came from that particular occasion Aziz Ansari that's like a gotcha moment Gillis and then Aziza oh my gosh I know no comment Russell Peters the reason I mentioned Aziz and Russell Peters next to each other because they're so different they're very different Russell Peters is man add and Aziz is Brooke the man Russell Peters he's got this kind of humor that's very broad and like a lot of you can't understand what he's doing not to say he's doing hacky stuff but just it's it's easier to get yeah but as he's like making his little joke he's he's the one he's gonna make a bet with you do you agree that those are two literally opposing styles nah man I mean I think it's like if you like comedy like I think you can like a lot of stuff that's the best I feel like is the Miss like interpretation of comedy sometimes people think like oh if you like her you don't you can't like this other person right it's like I think if you're a true comedy fan you want to laugh and you can find a lot of things funny and I think that's what I like about Russell and as these because they're like completely different and I guess you can both consider them under like the Indian or brown category but they're so different they live different lifestyle you know what I think that is a very true artists opinion we almost all have to have two reigns versus like I guess like white people only have to have to create a brain and they don't need to worry about them activism social justice that's the that's we sometimes strong with that because like sometimes we're just trying to be funny and you know we always say like we identify as being comedian before identifying as being Asian and like that's one of the most liberating things about comedy and then when people hit us with like that oh I don't like what you said about this or this commuter like why aren't you speaking at this day one of Andrew yet on your podcast it's like dude I'm just showing me funny but why can't I do that it always goes back to the title of the podcast agent not agent find out Spotify and iTunes and it's always just there are things that you or your both things at the same time it doesn't make sense but you're both Asian and not Asian at the same time that's like a very I feel American experience even now like I'm meeting fun but like I don't speak Vietnamese right so it's like I'm both of those things at the same time and I think we're just trying to figure out where do we fit in America where like where does where do we where do people even want to hear us about us and I think that's what we're trying to do we are grabbing Japanese food because we didn't have time to do the Asian and Asian podcast and go to Dom Bowl so Dom ball even though we walk there pass all the ground stones in Brooklyn we're just gonna take the ramen into the podcast room so there's like a couple fries in this building right because there's food here yeah and they were all over the fake food yeah yeah that's weird what were they were they maybe they were fake flies so after this we're on their channel we're gonna be on their Asia not Asian podcast it's an honor to be here but watch the episode Bumi why don't you roll us oh yeah and I know what I haven't yet because I'm with the person who's born in Japan that's how and this is super Joe is like it's our version of like kimchi I guess it's like our fermented thing every country I go from endlessly it's fermented soybeans it's Matt sticky it smells a little bit I admit I didn't really like it that much when I was younger I definitely start eating it probably like in the middle score high school it's like it's called like beards like an acquired taste like your rounds a lot of the owners do not like it you guys you call us barbarians my god this was a Japanese trap sort of I think that's dude this is like you guys experiencing each other's yeah like over here kind of like the bridge between yeah it's all right I knew you wouldn't get it though it's like salmon roe you got the benefit out of this relation here yeah good yeah yeah why feed me people up fish needs all fish sauce I heard ramen in Japan is not treated with the same like reverence that Shu shus name so do you have more liberties like it's like comparing McDonald's to like steak Peter lubbers like sushi is like it's expensive right it's it's a delicacy ramen is like it's like peasant food so it's nice it's like the newest version of a Adamas is it funny how it much it's been dressed up in America yeah I mean is it funny I mean I think it's like exotic to people here so charged 15 bucks for a bowl of noodles quote like five bucks analyze it cuz ramen is actually from China and sushis from us we used to call ramen Shu ghusl ma sucah like it didn't real quickly talk about this is still in my mouth in my mouth okay this is this is real what I eat this at home I have to go to the sink and then rub my mouth with water because it gets just like you touch the the pie you gotta judge the ramen bout let's just push past this before you instant version enough like a good ramen cuz we got it out here which is a curl B right which is like the instant food version of the food oh oh this is tonkotsu ramen uncle to remain is from the western region of Japan like the Kansai there's like consoles no Kansai area and it's pork broth which is not very popular where I'm from in like Chiba we just need like you know miso basement or miso like this mama so it's not my popular cuz it's very heavy and some people say is a little stinky I mean it's pretty good considering it's like the fast-food version of it you know the noodles get a little soggy but but but if it'll make snow noodles so I will say in Japan they always say ramen is supposed to be made quickly and eaten quickly so it is kind of like a fast-food yeah I think everything at Canal Street Market is good I think this is a solid four I think this is a solid four this is a negative five no that is the lowest rating ever I get lemon the rice was alright natto is is interesting thank you so much for watching that episode of gross food with
