this is going to be is no hype no bs no sponsorships just a genuine truth 180 days in review this is my 2020 vexus avx 1880 powered by suzuki 115 ss [Music] so i did about six months of research before i pulled the trigger on this boat there was about five things that was a non-negotiable that the boat absolutely had to have and the first thing was uh had to be brand new starting a business i couldn't have you know any kind of surprises i needed that warranty number two had to be suzuki the reason for that is a it's very reliable b fuel efficient and c they have a six year warranty i realize mercury's have a really nice warranty too it's just what i chose so um the fourth thing is it had to have a minn kota ultrix or some other kind of trolling motor that had spot lock on it that was a must and uh you know the fifth thing is is it had to be tough uh had to be tough and it had to be under 35 000 that was my budget so really five or six things um so that was my criteria so i felt that based on my research the vexus was the best bang for all of that criteria another thing that made me ultimately decide on vexus was their history even though they were a new company the ceo and some of the other executives were heavily involved with ranger you know before the buy out of johnny morris and all that so i knew they had the history of building good boats so that made me feel pretty confident that i was going to be buying a solid investment and something i could rely on to start my business with not going to get into how the boats are manufactured and you know their welds and the aluminum process and all that stuff because there's tons of videos there's factory videos there's all that you can find for yourself on youtube but what this is going to be is no hype no bs no sponsorships just a genuine truth 180 days in review so it will tell you 100 percent of what to expect what i've experienced with the boat it's not a hate video it's just a hundred percent this is what to expect out of this boat so we'll start with the pros and uh we'll go through what i like about the boat and then we'll go through the cons and the stuff that i've had go wrong with the boat so far so the pros about this boat is it's built very well uh it's handmade all the welds are great the aluminum is real tough it's real thick uh it's a heavy boat so you know you can attest to the quality of it you know i wanted something that was going to be tough being out here like seminole there's stumps everywhere and i didn't want to run the risk of getting whole you know or anything like that happening so it is very tough boot um the another good thing about it is it looks very well it's very pleasing on the ice i get a lot of customers to compliment um you know how attractive the boat is uh it looks like a glass boat so i actually have to point the welds out to people and let them know it is an aluminum boat so that's really neat it's got a cool design it doesn't look like your typical aluminum boat another really good thing about this boat is our vexas overall is their customer service is second to none i'm five hours away from the nearest dealer and they take care of me personally they send me parts that i need and no other company really does that in my experience so that's a huge plus with them no questions asked no problems they sent me multiple props trying to get my speeds right they sent me you know parts when they go bad and i just return them right back to them it's a really good deal with them highly recommend them for the customer service aspect another good thing about this vexus is for an 18 foot 10 inch boat it's actually very stable and it's pretty spacious i usually carry two customers plus me so uh three people total fish another official customer on the front deck and i fish another one on the back and there's plenty of room um so that was another big thing i needed something stable for my customers i want them to feel safe and it definitely offers that another really nice thing about these vexes boats is even the standard package is pretty nice like four tricks the trailer has the boat buckles um you get remote drain plug you know stuff like that comes standard on these boats where any other kind of aluminum boat you're going to get an edge trolling motor or something you know base level which this boat comes pretty well stocked for a standard boat without having to add a whole bunch of extra things to it you know that's uh that's pretty much my pros on the boat you know i like this boat it's it's a good boat but there are a bunch of cons for a boat at this price point so i i'm just going to be real honest about what's been going on so this boat was 32 500 second i bought the boat i started noticing errors with the fit and finish so that's the first con that i'm going to talk about is the fit and finish for a boat of this price point is not where you'd expect it to be so little things like the carpet phrase in certain areas i've had screws that were stripped out when i bought it so when i went to take out my front tool tray and unscrew it to clean under it one screw was already stripped out from the factory um i have screws right here on this plate that the heads are rounded off so it almost gives you the feeling like you got a monday or friday made boat like i don't want to be here or it's time to go home so that was disappointing um you know i've had the carpet falling coming down inside a couple of the compartments just little things like that you know i'm six months in i shouldn't be seeing issues like that already again with fit and finish the front deck lids are weather stripping it's not a real waterproof seal it's cut so really they have a whole bunch of it at the factory and they just cut it to size so you'll see i'll show you there's a significant gap in between my my front box weather strip here to where it's just not perfect so of course that lets water leak in and gets all my tackle plastics and stuff with more about the fit and finish the console in a heavy rain it will leak into the front box so i've always got front i've always got water in my front box when it rains there's no drains or anything in the boxes themselves to go into the hole so it just sits there and stops as with any aluminum boat you're gonna have an excessive buildup of condensation and there's nothing to address that whatsoever again thirty two thousand 000 boat no vents no nothing just plain jane boxes with carpet speaking of carpet another con about this boat for the price point is the carpet is not hookless and that drives me crazy it's 20 20. you should have if you're the baddest aluminum boat out there you should have hookless carpet um it drives me nuts every time i put my rods on the deck and the treble hook gets hooked in the carpet which is causing excessive wear on the carpet and it's going to make me do a warranty claim before i have to trade the boat because the carpet's wearing out there are some noticeable wear squads on the carpet for me going up and down on the deck you know i fish out of it almost every day whereas somebody that fishes out of it two times a week it would take them two years to notice that but like my boat buckles i'm starting to get aware on the side that's not vex's fault but it's just little things are starting to show um you know stuff's coming loose which that's to expect with any boat but um just little errors with the fit and finish uh the front pedestal seat is about impossible to get out because there's no drain hole in it so water stays in there um so when you go to put your front pole in and take it out you can't take it out without a set of vice grips just ask me how i know another thing is if you have an ultrex in this boat you need to drill two holes in that front tray that front tray has no drainage whatsoever in it and it will hold water on your electronic foot pedal and burn your power steering out so 90 days in i had to replace and get them to replace the foot pedal because of that issue i'm pretty sure that's what the issue was i i drilled three small holes in it and no the water doesn't sit in there anymore so it's little my new details like that that's starting to show up the cleats that fold down that they talk about is so great um after about six months they don't like to pop up anymore they're really hard to get up um so when you're trying to dock the boat and get those up and your cleats not it won't pop up and you have to get your pair of pliers to pop it up you know it gets quite aggravated another thing is their paint they talk about their hard case paint it's awesome paint it can't be scratched that's completely false it's very easy to scratch actually if you rub against a stump out there in the stump field it will scratch the boat and if you rub up against a dock wood dock just trying to to tie up it'll scratch the boat so that's quite frustrating you know the research that i did they showed them taking a key and rubbing it on there that didn't scratch that's just not the case with my boat i've already the boat is six months old i got scratches all over the place um you know i'm not reckless with it i take care of my stuff but just going through stumps and rubbing up and down on stumps and stuff it's it's scratched so um they definitely need to work on their paint if if you let you know if your lake doesn't have a bunch of stumps you don't have anything to worry about you know i definitely recommend getting some bumpers and having to carry bumpers on a bass boat to me it's just crazy but any kind of rubbing up against the dock or if you've got uh pleasure boaters out there and there's weight pushing you against a dock that you're knocked out you're going to scratch the boat to death it's just what happens ask me how i know because it's happened to me you know it's it's kind of frustrating that it's so easy to scratch it makes you want to put a wrap on the boat but a wrap costs anywhere from 1500 to 3 000 who's got that kind of money right now not me um some other quite annoying things about um this badass to the bone boat is the trailer the trailer is not that great of quality um i mean it's got nice features like it's got brakes and surge brakes on and it's got boat buckles and stuff but the powder coating on the trailer is very thin and the front roller shifts it's held by u-bolts it's not welded in i don't know why they didn't take the extra time to weld that in but every single body every single person has a vexus their front roller creeps the u-boats are not good enough they don't hold them down and if you loosen those bolts and you try to tap it forward with a hammer you actually crack the powder coating on it and i'm not talking about way laying the thing i'm just talking about giving it a little persuasion you'll crack the powder coating and see it's extremely thin powder coating the other thing with the trailer is the bunks get loose very easy if you're not dead straight on the trailer and that sideways turns it's going to loosen one of the bunks up i've had to tighten my bunks probably about 12 times now it's quite frustrating especially when it moves when you get it on the get the boat on the trailer and then you pull it out and the boat's not sitting flush on the bunks so the trailer definitely needs some attention they need to put bigger bolts or uh locking nuts or something on it to keep it from loosening up and to keep the front end from from pushing forward like that because that's you rely on your trailer you know and then they tell you these are awesome trailers but they have their flaws as well i mean when i bought the boat the lights didn't work so they had messed it up from the factory and i had to wait another hour for them to fix the lights and get that ready probably the most uh annoying thing about this is um it's slow so nobody warned me that this boat was going to run 46 miles an hour i bought this boat fully thinking that uh it's going to run 55 and it runs 45 46 with three people with god load it runs about 41. now a lot of that has to do with this suzuki i really don't know what it is about the suzuki's i guess it's the gear ratio in the foot they just don't have the speed a lot of the guys i've talked to have mercuries on this boat they're running 55 anywhere 53 to 57 is what i'm hearing from the mercury guys all the suzuki guys running 45 to 47 and i've put four different props on it and it doesn't matter i've got a jack plate on it i've got done just about all you can do 47 is what you're gonna get um so that's highly disappointing i also did reach out to vexus and kind of get an inside scoop as to why they're not 150 horsepower motors hung on the back of this thing y'all this boat weighs 2 200 pounds it used to be on vex's website it's not on there anymore because i know it's a real heavy boat a 2200 pound boat needs 150 horsepower there was some kind of design flaw to where they could not get this boat to pass the u.s coast guard's course to certify the hole for a specific horsepower motor that's not my opinion that's straight from vexus they told me that 135 horsepower was the maximum they could put on it without it blowing the prop out through the course super disappointing which tells me that somebody messed up in the whole design to where you can't handle because the boat does not handle very well um my lake there's a lot of s-curve places there's a lot of real backwater stuff that you got to kind of get the boat up on its side and if you don't have the boat trimmed almost all the way down you're going to blow the prop out it's just how the hole is designed might just be the suzuki i don't really know but they don't handle that well you are constantly on the trim and you know to claim that the boat is a just about if the handle's better than a fiberglass boat it's a long shot stretch you will get your feelings hurt if you ride in your boat and then get in a glass boat and do the same course you get your feelings hurt so that's something to take into consideration if you like going fast and you think that this boat's going to handle and perform just like a glass boat it's just not going to happen they're fine they run good they're cool boats but they're not a glass boat so that's what everybody needs to take away from this it's a 32 thousand 000 aluminum boat that's overpriced and that's that's honest it's overpriced this boat should have cost about 28 000 for the fit and finish and and the stuff that's all over it it's got atwood receptacles it's got atwood switches on it you know it's marketed as a high-end boat that's got cheap cheap parts on it and that's just reality uh 32 000 boat in my opinion should at least have hook free carpet and shouldn't have at wood receptacles on it so that's what you're getting you're getting a nice boat it's heavy and stable it looks cool but it's overpriced in my opinion and underpowered so you know almost 19 this this boat is two inches shy of 19 foot it needs 150 horsepower motor on it to be competitive all the expresses have 150s on them at least you know the crestliners can handle them uh the baddest boats in the industry should have um a motor that should power the boat so that's really it that's that's a 100 honest review about it y'all i don't mean on any kind of hate on this boat you know i pay for it i work out of it it's a good boat it's a good boat for someone that doesn't fish every day that's a real real good thing there if you don't fish every single day or if you fish you know you're a weekend warrior this is a great boat because you won't see the issues that i'm seeing until about two years after ownership it really won't bother you as bad but if you're in this boat every single day it'll start to bother you some and you paid this kind of money and you know this is what you get for it it's quite frustrating even though vexus takes care of you even though all of this other stuff that i've said it's still pretty frustrating to fork out this kind of money and uh you know get kind of a mediocre boat or good boat i wanted a great boat you know vexus and all these all the hype and everything was this is the baddest boat around and it probably is the baddest aluminum as far as strength and stuff goes but it's not super fast and it doesn't handle very well and it take you have to drive this boat you are always trimming uh anywhere you go turns you're trimming going fast you're trimming up all the way you know you just have to drive it so you know great boat if you think about buying one highly recommend getting one maybe used with some warranty so you're not taking a depreciation value on it um or just look for a glass boat you know if you don't need a brand new boat buy a used glass boat but if you know main thing to take away is if you're buying one of these boats because it's been hyped that it's a fiberglass boat in an aluminum body it is not that it looks like an aluminum boat or a fiberglass boat it you know it's cool like one is but it does not handle like one and it does not have the speed like one a fitting finish isn't as great as a glass boat would be and that's just it is what it is about the only glass in the boat is the console and the live wells and the two back boxes that's it so you know they call it glass infused hybrid boat there's nothing hybrid about this is an aluminum boat it rides on pad so i hope you all enjoyed it don't hit me too hard in the comments i'm just trying to be honest about it your mercury vixes could be awesome but my suzuki vexus is mediocre um thank you all for watching hit subscribe if you want to take a trip out with me in this thing like someone know go to fishlegsseminal.com thank you all have a wonderful day
