Van Tour: Self built, Murphy Bed, Heated Floors, Shower - Perfect Beach Van Build

what's up guys as you guys can tell that I am NOT super like animated right now because me and shade in here we're actually looking at this beautiful sunset I don't but you see it I hope you guys can see it but anyways we are here at San Diego and shayden is about that head off the ball oh yeah what a life he lives huh before he left though he literally finished your van last this morning this morning he rented it out right yeah you rented it to a friend I guess or whoever yeah this rented out in three or two months and and you were gonna be gone for the just rent it out and read more and you wanted to just miss fan right there we're gonna go check it out you guys want to look at it another Murphy bed yeah Murphy bed here we go [Music] sup shade this is we're you're parked right next to ghost it's nice we're down by the beach it is it's beautiful and we are we're not gonna say what Beach it is because I kind of hang out here sometimes so but let's just say it's in San Diego ish it is absolutely stunning Jin we're gonna well kind of just kind of tell me what you got here yeah what kind of man is it and yeah I got it used by it new really I didn't know that yeah what year is it it's a 2014 it's 14 yeah gasps right not diesel gas okay yeah yeah I got a super good deal on it used and probably wouldn't been able to afford a new one right now 23 you look young man that's not fair yeah I got a good deal on it and yeah I've been building it for the past like eight months on and off start it off super strong three months of building got like everything functional took off to Burning Man and then I just didn't do anything for you you took the van The Burning Man yeah how was that incredible whoa yeah you're 23 I mean all all ages enjoy Burning Man but you know we had a little van life camp out there with mr. and mrs. adventure actually those yeah I know them yeah I met them at our festival recently yeah that was bad so we had like a little triangle and oh well isn't everything and we're doing it next year that's too many people yeah that's a lot of people for me what was your inspiration for this this bill because I think I may know yeah so the van kind of I mean basically my girlfriend was like why don't you get a little band that we can go like take on camping trips on the weekend so I started looking at eel bands then I was like you know what let's get like a hired man I was like maybe I just get a newer rise like maybe I should just live in a man and it's finally out of control and now I live in a van nice and it's a great bandage you decided to put a Murphy bed in yeah so why don't you show us all that all operations you didn't have to move your cushion your couch cushion at all when you did that and dude it's actually massive I mean I've got tons of room how tall are you ari okay so it's actually a Cal King length and a little bit narrower than a queen and you're lifting it quite easily do you have hydraulics on there or anything it actually is just lifted by this little mechanism down here you don't even have to like do anything okay just pull itself up yeah that's super nifty that's it and that's super super nice and you still have obviously plenty of room showing you down at the floor here nice you know playroom two foot two foot teeth pretty much for that six foot width so I wanted to make sure that I had a fat counter cuz like it's pretty much where I put like all my different appliances out of an induction stove up here instant pot blender toaster well now that you bring up induction how much power you got dude cuz it's not easy to run an air duct show yeah so the battery is actually have two to three hundred and sixty Empire batteries so 720 hours of lithium those are back under here a lot of storage in here so that's the electrical system we got a thirty-five hundred watt pure sine wave inverter this is the controller for the heated floors well heated floors what do you mean yeah I just like me it's a little different it's not a hydraulic system but it's still heated floors correct yeah this is actually just a wiring that goes underneath the floor it's a little bit cheaper than doing the full like hydronic radiant heat right definitely works it definitely works and works well and radiates heat to the van right so which is beautiful and honestly you're in you're in these parts a lot we're in the same aigo area a lot yeah so it's kind of just nice to wake up to a nice warm feel absolutely well you have a you have another heater source yeah that's really interesting and I was asking questions about it so yeah this is actually I went with a Chinese diesel heater one of those five kilowatt ones that's 80 bucks on eBay cuz I couldn't afford a thousand bucks for a heater and I thought that it wasn't gonna work and I probably put over 100 maybe even hundred and fifty hours on it right now and the thing is hyper-efficient doesn't use any diesel I have a little diesel tank right here doesn't smell doesn't vent inside all the combustion occurs actually outside the van a lot of people probably gonna be like I can't believe you actually have diesel fuel in your van yeah is it it's not a problem obviously the goal is definitely to put an auxilary diesel tank underneath because this is not a diesel van it's a gas van so yeah I basically did go with that diesel heater and put the diesel tank inside it's a little bit worried about that tested it I don't have any fumes inside doesn't smell at all this is an airtight seal when I do need to fill that tank I can just pull it over to the door it's an extendable hose outside fill it up make sure there's no diesel anywhere and then strap it back to the set do you just fill it up with like diesel fuel at a gas station does diesel yeah it literally uses like I used probably one tank not even the whole tank in a month running it all night every night Chinese diesel heater things incredible yeah not to you know put down s bar or Abasto but those things are expensive and if you 23 I mean I know you go actually really and you spend the money on your power pretty much yeah yeah definitely solar so I have five hundred and forty watts of solar I got those panels used I got those batteries on a good deal I got the inverter used pretty much everything in this van was in a sense used or refurbished or returned on Amazon or something like that so you built this for under 10 grand yeah so actually the van cost me 10 grand and then the whole build-out costs me under 15 grams 15 okay yeah so basically Wow 25 grand in wow that's really good deal man yeah I think of almost you know to basically check off all my boxes in terms of like having the heated floors and having electric hot water and having diesel heat all these things Murphy that without you know spending 40 50 grand and you have this skylight that I'm gonna actually pan down here and show this off he's actually pretty cool right it's now it doesn't open it's just a skylight yeah it's just a skylight I'm gonna eventually have a little insulating panel to go up in here for the winner where'd you get it yeah things awesome he just mounted up there just like he'd mount the vent fan yeah I just make sure it's sealed yeah we actually position that so that it's right above our heads when we're sleeping so we can look at the stars very very good idea yeah they do make ones that open and to be honest I was a bit worried about like if I was in the snow and like having any openings on the roof just kind of scared me yeah you have a really interesting layout too another friend of ours that has a Murphy bed but his his friend our other friend yeah doesn't have a way to get to the back yeah and you went straight out the back there yeah yeah what was your well you can I can park backwards at the beach or Park sideways and not really be missing out on anything I back here my wetsuit back here so it's super easy to come in when I'm done surfing take a hot shower get changed what's your hot water tech sorry before gallon electric hot water heater okay see now this is the thing guys everybody has to understand that Jaden has enough power to handle that electric hot water heater you have enough power to handle the electric heating pad yeah you know so all those things take up so much power but you have it you have plenty of power that's actually I mean for me I looked at it as basically I can either build an entire propane system or I can just invest heavily in the electric yeah everything electric so there's nothing in here that's not electric except that diesel heater right because that's pretty much the only thing that uses an extreme amount of power it was electric right and you don't want to you want to drink your batteries that fast right absolutely in your shower obviously you're six foot so you fit in there quite nicely a little light in here there's a little touch light it turns on and off which you're super stoked about yeah just told ya today because it's been dark in the shower and now it's not now that's now you're just a bait now you also there's really cool epoxy you know beachy vibe to your bottom there it's just pretty cool yeah I couldn't really find a shower pan that was built around the wheel well that just don't make that and all the places that are called wanted like eight hundred to two thousand dollars to fabricate a fiberglass shower plan so this was like I don't know $60 worth of epoxy and some wood and paint and just screw it I'm gonna build my own yeah built my own and I got a little creative works out pretty good I'd say how much how many sure water do you have how many gallons water so I have 48 gallons of water woah actually underneath the fridge over here it's inside yeah so it's you can go in four seasons I guess yeah that was the whole goal was to be able to not have anything burst if I go to the mountains not after winter has anything so there's really nothing that I would even have to do on this van to winterize it I can essentially drive straight to the snow and have full access to my water all the indoor heat you know and not for worried about anything eight gallons yeah that's massive can you see it from this way you can't really see it it's underneath here so it basically goes from here all the way back in this bottom chunk oh I've seen these yeah I almost got one but I was like now I'm good but holy yeah they're massive yeah and but they're so spread out they're like 50-something inches long right it's super long I mean it goes like basically this entire width it's just this entire bottom portion and the fridge sits on top of that we're gonna fridge if can you open that up oh I love these winters yeah got a freezer right here I love these windows right here that slides back in honestly I almost put this in my van yeah I love those winter fridges I'm the only kitchen here we got a little slide out to us we could sit down when you're sitting here you can pull your laptop out work right there when you're in bed you can pull it out over the bed so you can actually have like a little desk to you know put a laptop on and have food or dinner your play cards you know when we're sitting in bed stuff like that or if you were even I guess watching a movie or do you have a do you have a projector in here or so eventually that's actually the next upgrade is to add a projector that actually sits right here I was actually just kind of throwing that out there to see if you even with thought about it holy crap no this door essentially 50 inch screen yeah and I built this all so that this would be centered with that for once I can afford a projector you can get 50 bucks off Amazon but I want a really nice of course you do it I don't force you do you fancy pants cuz we have basically full Bose surround sound too so this is a sound bar up here a wireless sub under the bench of course you so the sound system is my probably my favorite part of the band to be honest Len Bias he's playing and the door is open it's just like it'll fill an entire parking lot with sound it's pretty incredible can you fit all of yours your stuff in here as well as your girlfriend's yeah yeah actually so this entire closet back here this is my closet this won't fill my shirts right here we have my peanuts true basically just your pants socks stuff like that down here this is just laundry and linens kind of like interchangeably so it's just a bunch of towels and laundry and then this is basically the extra closet slash utility closet and this sits empty most of the time I built this essentially just to store like if I had a bunch of stuff coming in and I don't want to put it all the way I can throw it in here my girlfriend's on a trip with me then this is her closet this is huge too this can fit like it's could easily fit all of her clothes so wants to move into the van walaa ukulele yeah ukulele you got a little vacuum over there and an outlet in there to try vacuum yeah that's okay I want to watch these on this on TV yeah thank you so sometimes when we're on public spaces we get week we get fans fan fans so we get that a lot by the way so sorry about the interruptions bottom the best part it is actually we we do you know in the van life community we'd like to show off our vans so shaitaan' dude thank you so much for showing us your home but I mean it's like are you uh you're gonna be heading off tomorrow is your girlfriend on with you are you just gonna myself we're going Friday morning we fly to take you oh so you guys want together cool awesome well geez man have a good time yeah man I met you randomly yeah ad in this parking lot we met ray here right in the spot I love the van I did a fantastic job how many months I would say five months of work fun most of war 3 months of doing nothing after burning man that's a long recovery time right there's a long decompression [Music] [Music]
