Just a reminder that as upbeat as this song sounds, the inspiration for it came from DLR watching a live news report on a guy who was threatening to jump off a building. It apparently led to a train if of thought where DLR came to the basic conclusion that when you decide to do something you shouldn't hesitate, you should just jump. Ultimately not a terrible message, but the original inspiration makes for interesting context.

Listened to Van Halen a little bit as a teen, but decided to listen to the whole Van Halen remastered album on Spotify recently. God damn if that ain't a masterpiece

35 year VH fan thanks for posting. 1984 was the #2 album behind Thriller. Eddie played solo on Beat It. This was a great example of early crossover where VH fans were buying MJ album. Maybe 1984 would have surpassed Thriller if Ed hadn’t done the solo? Possible. The band was out of town and pissed when they found out Ed did it. MJ offered Ed a cool MIL for the job but he declined the money Eddie said he didn’t think anyone would ever notice he played a solo for “some little black kid.” Ed also says he reworked the entire song and MJ liked his version better.

Tripping balls at an outdoor venue watching the singer from Extreme lead these guys and it ain't half bad. Most of the show I keep noticing two overweight black guys sitting on a blanket calmly enjoying what's in front of them. I kept thinking "why are they even here?" then Jump started and you woulda thought they worked on JayLo's last tour. 400lb dude did a goddam cartwheel. They came for one song and had the time of their life. I was trippin tho...

Ah the member berries. I was friends with Sammy Hagar’s kid and so was able to see VH (Van Hagar) play on the 5150 tour with great seats and back stage passes. Good times. I prefer their earlier work but I believe 1984 was VH best selling album and Jump was their only number one hit.
