please take your seats quickly ladies and gentlemen thank you hi guys and welcome to 118tennis.com in today's session I want to talk to you about some very Advanced technique on the kick serve and I want to show you two very unusual parts of alkaraz's kick serve that create amazing Spin and power one of them is unusual and one of them I think is unique to him and if you employ them in your serve then you'll get amazing Spin and power into your kick serve now ankara's might have the best kick serve in the world excluding real giants like Riley opalkaroo 6 foot 11 and he's only six foot tall which compared to the other Pros is pretty short and to have a better kick serve than anybody else he has to be doing something different now I'm sure there's other things that I haven't seen But there are two things to Al karate serve one of which is very unusual but it's not unique and then the second part that I think is truly unique I want to show you what they are and I want to show you how you can apply them to your serve to avoid having a floated gentle kick serve and to have an aggressive powerful vicious weapon now a common problem in the kick serve that loses power is to actually rotate the body and the arm together this is Perfectly Natural and it's very very important to do this in your flat serve but with the kick serve we want to stay side on and rotate the arm through the stroke before the shoulders and the body turns this gives us an angle of attack to create real Spin and if just effect on the ball but it's unnatural so what alcaraz does is his left foot is pointing in the traditional way over here but as he brings his right foot over in a pinpoint stance you can do the same thing in a platform stance as he brings the foot over he actually points the foot away from the court so instead of pointing into the court he points away from the court and this really restricts the rotation of the body and so it's unnatural then to turn too early this gives him a spin this gives him the angle of attack for the ball so this gives him the spin but the power comes from a different source and what alcaraz does is he delays the elbow turn first of all I'll show you then I explain why it works so he goes into the trophy pose here but most players immediately and smoothly go into one position and then serve but alcaraz brings such elbow over to this side here here across and swing here across and swing now I think this gives a lot of energy to his stroke because it creates what's called a stretch shortening cycle the way that muscles work is with a kind of elastic energy so if you look at bodybuilders before competitions they're out there doing like curls bicep curls and things they're not lifting heavy weights they're lifting lighter weights rapidly to create the elastic energy in the muscles and in their bodies and it's the same with alcaraz he's creating a recoil so it goes into this position here and then across and recoils back instead of a traditional way of coming here and then forcing the racket back for players like curios this doesn't matter because the movement is totally fluid and all in one but most players have a tiny pause even Federer had a tiny slowing down of the stroke right in the heart of the serve back here but alcaraz doesn't do that because he slows here ready and then pull back and go it's a little bit like pulling a catapult or a rubber band if you pull a catapult back and then release it you get power if you pull it back let it go and then release it you don't get power halfway there the last pull and go so apply these two changes to your serve make sure that your back foot points away from the court and delay the take back of the elbow and you'll find that you energize the stroke and can get harder and faster than you believe was possible if you like this idea then have a look at our latest book on Amazon the kick serve solution we provide detailed breakdown of the biomechanics and the science of the stroke and then Super Simple Solutions like the one shown today with clear illustrations to help you really make change in your game or if you want more personalized advice have a look at what we're doing with online coaching I'm helping players of over 30 countries of all ages all levels all over the world it's inexpensive and it really works for more information on this have a look at the website or email me for details so make sure that you point your back foot away from the court rotate your elbow late and that elastic energy into your serve don't over rotate and you'll have a fantastic kick serve today thanks for watching and see you next time for more unique tennis lessons that really work
