you're listening to the ones ready podcasts a team of air force special operators perched in combat with over 70 years of combined operational experience as well as a decade of selection instructor experience if you're tired of settling and you want to do something you truly believe in you're in the right place now here's your favorite CCT personality jtac extraordinaire embrace our of their ridiculous space unlike the shortest operator you'll ever meet peaches everybody welcome to the ones ready podcast you're in the team room we've got a special guest today we have Roomba and he is a tak P with us I have I personally worked with rumah for a long time so we're excited to have him on the podcast it this podcast will hopefully answer a lot of the questions that you guys have had about what are the primary differences between tak PE and combat control so we looking forward to this we've been trying to set this up for a while and we finally got it so we're excited to have you guys here and turn it in so Roomba thanks for joining us yeah right on all right so moving on to what we actually wanted to talk about with you guys the difference between TAC P and comic troll so ro but why don't you talk to us a little bit about what tech P is what it stands for some of the primary mission sets that you guys do from a conventional perspective that way we can in you know and then you can go on and I'll will kind of curate a little bit if you will just to make sure we hit everything but like TAC P what drove you to go tattoo yes uh number one tech be tactical air control party one of the biggest things that people miss is we're not a single member astre normally we have an officer and we have animalistic guy our officers being r19 Zulu and now tech be enlisted dudes being ones dilatory so to UN team air liaison officer and then the TAC P who's normally enlisted member carry state tax responsibilities their main reason why I decided to be attacked P was number one can't swim few days and cz T's are great swimmers so I'll throw it out there I'm Puerto Rican I'm good at swimming slow but don't make me swim fast don't like it alright the thousand other things to be honest with you and I came in I came in for cyber I knew about the three the three combat career fields what I really called and then I knew about salty now obviously SR but I was didn't have enough information to make my decision so I pushed into basic with a kind of open contract what their took the PT test or CCT intact P and then the first thing of the CCT guy said is like hey you ready for the swim and I was like got it attack P it is yes I knew about attack P I'd done some research on the career field and pretty much all of them and I knew the attack piece worked with the army which kind of a tricked me and it said that attack peas were one the only guy in the Air Force representative army unit so that kind of made me feel a little bit more comfortable because I figured it was gonna be a good job and I was gonna be working with the army so that was the main reason why I wouldn't act be okay and I mean obviously even you've been in for how long now I've been in for 13 and a half years now about dated 14 yeah you're in the double digits now but uh got a shallow way through now so you you wanted to work with the Army on purpose you know what they tell you that up front like initially Isaac I'm so excited and then after 13 years of hearing with the army there's a reason why I'm a Duke Field on the apps oxide that's actually pretty funny too like we always you know there's always the inter-service rivalry there's even rivalries in the career field and stuff and that tribalism it's just it's just different so when people hear us talk about that they immediately go to like oh no there's there's these guys aren't the worst I'm I already tell everybody this like I'm the oldest of four boys the other three are in the army like I'm the oldest I'm in the Air Force everybody else in the army yes we all make fun of each other constantly like it's just a thing but there are differences look what what are some of those differences when you're like yeah man it's working with the army what are some of those differences that you're what about Yemen so I'll start with like PT that army bill isn't like huge formations of people where our career fields just like your career feels like they're they kind of go off to the individual so they want to make sure like you're getting taken care of individually they have a lot of those programs but I would argue with the slices up they have is just a little bit harder additionally the chain of command is a little bit different in our teams there's definitely a chain of command but it's a lot easier for you to be able to approach you leadership and voice your opinions and talk about what you want to talk about I think and the Army's a little bit harder because of that structure and everything that they focus on and I understand the army trains a lot of people I think we're they're very number specific verses where you go with specialization so by the time of one of our Dietz gets out of training or now that's a signature yeah and that's I mean that's a lot of why people are drawn to Special Operations on their fore side because we are so small the organization is much flatter when your commander says you have an open-door policy he really means walk into my office at any time and tell me anything you want and we'll hash it out like yeah I think that's good and it's not it's not bad I'm sure the Army has a ton of good things too I just haven't figured out what those are yet I'm kidding I am kidding everybody I'm kidding everybody in the Army again I say everybody everybody likes food everybody needs to positive so there we go yeah hey Ruby you you talked about the chain of command so if your Air Force the Army has their own chain of command you have your own trainer command how does that kind of flush itself out yeah so operationally or even stateside it actually mirrors itself administrative command of like tanky and obviously our first member sits with our commander so he makes sure that every day admin sighs taking care of the actual operational employment of tak P it's kind of fifty/fifty our commander talks with the army commander marine commander whatever conventional force were supporting which would you support the army and then we've been supporting the Marines recently quite a bit they talk together about operational employment and then once we've got in our guidance in at the tactical level then we obviously work for a company commander a battalion commander brigade commander whoever we're working with at that point but we all our operational instructions by the time we go actually tactical employed okay so how long like once you got to your flight your team how long before you became a jtech and you started deploying yeah so tank P again unique to us because we come in a few more numbers I would argue than the other Special Warfare career fields I deployed initially in 2006 before I was even JSOC qualified so I would argue is actually a blessing my jet I got attacked to go support v group in Iraq and I was with him v group initially said no way we're not taking a room at but my JTAG said if you don't think the room at you're not getting the jtech just just pause right there for people that don't know what a row mat is can you spell that one out yeah for sure so just turn though you use a lot we still use it it's radio operator maintainer and driver it was pretty much a nice way of telling us we were the backpack mule and the programmer right so just like a machine gunner or somebody else on the small team has an assistant gunner you they were assistant radio dude pretty much really nice yeah but that's all they tell you get your jtech qualification you start the train up so it's not like it's a what you're going to be stuck doing this for for a long time it's more of a rite of passage kind of thing and it was you know when I was in Iraq like I said he told the team that if they didn't take me he wasn't gonna go so the team made a deal it was a 30-day deal they're like hey for 30 days he has to do whatever are we dishonest training and then he can go out with us so it actually ended up being a blessing because those who's taught me crew-served weapons ATVs my job normally was taking care of the vehicles feeding the dogs and making sure that the river was up which for me was awesome so I got to play with dogs shoot things and riding their bikes Oh funk how long had you been in the military at this point so I went through basic training schoolhouse I want to say it was like less than a year before I was in Iraq so it was very like if pipeline got too much squadron did 60 days of combat mission ready training see you more and then the flag went up and they're like hey you're going on Iraq you know like I mean perfect scenario how could that is like that's amazing yeah just a team member a year and a half in going and getting my first deployment on holy crap I'd be hooked I'd be like all right that's it I figured it out yeah so that was that was awesome came back because of the deployment and the things that we did with that team my lieutenant colonel when I came in I was still a onesie he's like hey man you did pretty good one of my homies which a lot of you guys might know timid the officer he was my first supervisor so I walked in Jimmy was like hey bro you're leaving I was like I just got back it's been ten days he's like you're gonna JTACs cool I was like and I'm out yeah so Timmy was pretty good about that semi DJ attack school came back Brandon's story was there when I came back and then when I came back story was like you're gonna get your eval I was like okay I got back from JSOC you see two days ago but sure let's send it got my Eva and then they kicked me out to Airborne School so it was a pretty fast pace thing for us which I think we're going back to now with day after you know a I just wanna squatters yeah those strike have to use man that's that's awesome a lot of times we talk and a lot of the messages that will get people talk about how long the pipeline is and how long training is after that we're always like well you know 18 to 24 months unless you hit it exactly perfectly and you're an exam exactly perfectly back to back to back in it done yeah yeah that's on that's unreal I mean you might so obviously no injuries no setbacks and and your school schedule was just hold on and just straight performance he also did that well yeah let's not take that one away from him like welcome to you know it wasn't all luck you could just crush him I'm just trying to keep him humble man that's all it is weird he talked about the no swimming thing or he got that out of the way I can go underwater the holding was when somebody told me that I had to do it fast I was like what's the deal bro I'm from Puerto Rico like we're supposed to be chill why do I have to get faster I did my swim one time and I finished it completely ignored the instructor that was you know and I need to go faster because it was a time my like nah man I'm in the pool I'm just in a swim so I can swim don't make me swim fast under oxide and probably keep up with like most dudes like the two three dudes do pull stuff and under waters and stuff like bag and kiba but they're like why slimfast I don't remember anybody swimming that pass I'll leave that to you guys jeez I well I don't worry man I'm not very fast either but yeah I guess fast enough how much how much women did you do in the pipeline like as part of the the structure of the pipeline yeah so I went through pipe one when I when it was due at Hereford whew I would argue there are still a lot of like I'm not going to say jaded instructors but instructors that probably wanted to go see CT and then attack be just kidding they're gonna find me and kill me we did it we did quite a lot a lot of cool PT obviously being at Harvard field I would argue three times a week we were in the soundside doing a lot of work on the beach so they made us swim but one thing coming out that point we were always so slow summer so it sucked but it was fun three cuz I was just like okay everybody swimming slow so I'm faster than most of the suits it wasn't bad but we definitely do it a lot now obviously when somebody's doing it right we kind of follow suit so obviously all of you guys have been doing your water trainings and now they added it to your part of the past this so now we have to do the five under meter swim and underwater we just we're not timed like the other corals are so nice well hey you got in where you could you got it where you fit in and you slid right underneath that 500 requirements so good on you they're making me do it next week we did it last week so Mike get it well that I think that's a good point because you know a lot of people that are listening may think that hey you knock out the pass test you knock out the pipeline and guess what I'm never swimming again or I'm never doing that but you have we have you know annual and 18-month requirements that we have to do yeah and I think like I said you guys have been doing it right I think PJ SR CCT you guys have been doing it right it was I think that we needed to do so here at Duke for example the guys that I'm with right off the bat we need oh we needed to keep up so we're swimming we're training we're hitting the pool and we would have passed past this I think I hate the same when people say you rise to the occasion I think you fall back to your trains if you don't train to swim you're not going to magically swim 500 meters because you hit the pool and somebody yelled at you divided so we're hitting it on that same topic you know everyone always talks about swimming for PJs and stuff but the rucking for tak P because you guys are out with the army you guys are going on like those long ruck march and stuff like that so a guy that's coming in and wants me specifically you know attack P what would you say is a goal for rucking that you would recommend you know that they try to train up to in the meantime well they're thinking about it and training up for it so I'll be honest with you and you do this trying to get Gil TAC be a ruck should be literally like water you like Iraq three times a week not with two times a week not with a lot of weight I hit the track here at Irby because I have that soft material but I'll walk out I'll log out easily I do four six and then my long runs on the weekends are ten but it let it not be mistaken if you are going to act B you're probably gonna erupt more than anybody you know because that's the army likes to walk the primary method of transportation when you talk to any army commander is two feet so if you if you want to be type II I would recommend that a ruck at 35 pounds should be the minimum and that's like your warmup weight so ruck a lot perfect and we definitely got to get you on for another episodes we can talk like just specific rooks I know there's a lot of stuff and build up to it because guys throw on a pack and they're like I'm just gonna go 90 pounds for three miles in their first ruck and then then breaking themselves because they haven't been working up to it so don't go out there and do anything ridiculous guys but it just no if you're going for tak P we're gonna be putting out another ruck episode so you guys can train safely and train up to that standard with the time that you guys have so yeah I just want to throw that out there we've got a lot of questions about that actually and I just went for a rock to days ago and posted about it and then I got again it was a recovery ruck for me you know and everybody's like what what is a recovery ruck like how is that a thing that's absolutely a thing you got to look at the right ruck gotta look at the right equipment I'm sure you guys will talk about it in the rec video but I saw a rocket out stream I have a new a lustrum the newer ones that they put out but I'm a trustworthy never fails Roomba you came to the right spot boy do we have some here we have a recommendation for you I was using that same Alice for him like I'm not gonna I'm not gonna jump into a commercial right now but man yeah I will I really stock man that's that mainframe that they got Oh golly and change your life homey I'll have to try it out do it man well hook it up I I have kind of in in previous episodes talked a little bit and I've only hit a little bit on what CCT as AJ Tech does downrange but what would what would you consider to be the primary mention set of a conventional tak P once they deploy as a JTAG yep so two environments right now you obviously have the guys outside the wire and you guys gotta have the guys at the talk at the headquarters so primarily we live by one thing it's advise assists and control if you go to the school house you're gonna hear that multiple times you're going to hear that multiple times throughout your career advise assist and control so the advising we're firepower integration experts so we have Isaac our commanders whoever the component commander is whoever we're working with um the best employment of five support when I say fire support that includes Air Force fire fire Marines naval army we're the guys that know a little bit about everything and we know how to use it the right way so then integrating we're the guys that kind of look at we can look at the battlefield both from a TOC setup or even outside the wire with your team whoever you're working with your platoon and you can assess at what time is the right time to bring the right effective there but you're integrating it all in a way that doesn't limit one thing for example if you need to shoot your artillery pieces of the army needs to fire while you're also conducting air strikes using your air assets that we know how to do it we integrate it and the last thing that our argue we do is that control piece control in the sense of you know calling in air strikes call in artillery naval gunfire whatever might be go be 10 what we teach these other schools and after that is like you can't roll off the JTAC in general the tempo the battlefield so you decide like hey this just makes sense a lot of people are gonna be going crazy and everybody's gonna be in a lot you like just drop bombs and normally that's not the first answer that you want to assess so we can control the temple to battlefield by just being the conquer like the guy assessing the battlefield I'm making the right decision that's all me yeah I always I try and equate it to hate you know your conventional taxis are amazing at large military combat operations I mean when it if you were to put me in that kind of situation where I've got large maneuver elements and tanks and that kind of stuff and I'm trying to bring fire support to the battlefield man I'll be able to do it just because of the training I did the the pretty specific training I have had thanks to attack knees I could do it but I would I would give my butt handed to me severely whereas what I have noticed just you know being at the weapons school was a lot of our combat controllers or soft tech peas would perform very well in a counterinsurgency type mission set but our conventional guys would definitely have to step their game up and learn much like I had to learn the large military combat operations you guys would have to learn how to operate in a coin environment cuz it's it's very quick very dynamic and it's almost like a sprint from you know the moment you hit the ground or you know a little bit before while you're on the helicopter till until you're off yeah how do you think about that am i accurate in that scenario 100% I didn't the biggest thing to you is the size of the people that we support which you kind of highlight it in the sounder you support Giants you're not talking about the size of individual people you're talking about the size of elements okay sorry to interrupt go on yeah no I know better if I talk about five but no so you know the average jtech your senior Airman jtac your a1c JTAC first appointment he's gonna be with 60 people he is a j-type for 60 people so when you're talking about 60 people moving and it for different manure elements and that's your first rotation it's just a lot of people to keep track of or like Special Forces they have like smaller teams specialized they go through a lot of training you have private Snuffy who made it out of basic training went to your schoolhouse he's an infantryman boom he's deployed so big sigh big maneuver elements additionally like you mentioned peaches armor I am one of the guys that hit armor first so I went with the armor you know initially and then from armor I've done infantry cavalry and done it all but like you mentioned the rate of speed that we move an armored union moves very fast infantryman slow air assault and air boy just all depends but you're always going to end up minimum with 60 dudes in the battle fit and that's always minimum that's a company level jtech 60 dudes in the battlefield - attachments so a lot of people to track a lot of fire support to track so tends to be a little bit harder in that sense but it makes you smart up like big war like we're we're really good when the big war kicks off and this little small conflicts I think you need more of a specialized force which just objects kind of come into play you know I agree and you you kind of introduced it before I could even bring it up but the different different elements that you support in terms of armored mechanized airborne and infantry and which ones have you kind of had more experience with so I've actually hit all of them I've worked with mechanized armor that was my initial bread-and-butter when I first came in then I moved to infantry and cavalry worked with Scouts I deployed with airborne dudes which people say deploy everyone dudes but they no do jumping in combat right now are not big army tell you that much right now they're airborne in combat you never opening a parachute those whose but I worked with some DS from Italy airborne and then I'm also done Air Assault so I've kind of worked with all of them out argue I had to call my bread and butter I'm definitely an armor armor expert I think that's a very complicated way of fighting war based on the rate of speed that those news fights so I still remember the ranges of all our guns which I'd need to dump that out of my head up support so there's only so many penguins on the iceberg yeah that's a crazy thing that I don't even think I fully realized like we got JTACs out there moving with armored you know armored division's cod that's got to be dynamic as crap it gets confusing dude Adrienne's max destructive range is for case if you're talking to army army commander with a armor the first thing he's going to tell you you shoot anything inside 4k he's gonna punch in the throat so do them for KS or moving target so as a JTAG if you're moving with an armored and mechanized unit and normally have some sort of armor of fascism you're shooting from 4k to 7k and they're travelling about 30 30 40 miles an hour so that 4 to 7 K goes by really fast so you're talking about trying to put a bomb somewhere quick so that way your tanks are not getting fragged or anything that's a rush and it dude absolutely ridiculous I can't even figure out time zones on one to get on like the podcast and you're talking about you're talking about literally doing rolling math to kill somebody for to seven KOA that's like the world's most badass middle school problem you're in an armored vehicle you're going 30 miles an hour where she got this boom another another armored vehicle is driving at you at 5,000 you want to kill that thing yeah that's sorry you're not the only one with time zones issues no Road but yesterday was like hey yeah yeah you know 8 o'clock central works from our up yeah eight o'clock works for me and I'm like okay well you're in central time yep yep on the sensor time wait a minute I'm good I did like that's the running joke with us is every single time like I literally have to like write it down and be like okay you're on Pacific Standard Time everybody else is on the East Coast you need to figure this out everything works great oh man so where's lots of lots of fingers involved a couple toes whatever yeah take my boots off nice room but what what advanced schools have you gotten the opportunity to attend yeah so I've been obviously you were my instructors all sorry that 111 school so weapons school obviously went there for six months I've been through Airborne School wonder survival went to Arctic survival most horrible thing in my life never want to do that again with you right there Arctic survival is the what man I went there it's like a regular dude and I was I made the mistake of being motivated worst time ever where the JTAG dude but been there got there to go through obviously a lot of students school schools went through alerce before now they kind of got together and it's are slick I used to be are slick and then loose so that way you could learn long-range reconnaissance so I went through that and then oh yeah and I went to like a calf school for like scouts with the army because I have a lot of those cool schools or knew that with them so cool thanks good well any of those that are required like for you graduate I know you had a short timeline but for those guys that are like interested in tact pee does everyone get airborne or just whenever you're attached to one of those units kind of thing and that's kind of how you figure out what advanced school is you ain't gonna end up getting yeah so a good question because there's a lot of room about that so I'll smash it so for attack B's unlike the other three bird churches that are uh that you guys are talking about so CCT SR and PJ we are not jump inherent so the difference between jump and parent and jump qualified for us is jumping here and career fields have to go to every one school jump qualify the career shows have the opportunity right now is in a word change where their qualifying everybody so the opportunity for a dude to go to every school 90% that the dudes gonna go um even at Savannah where I was before I came over over to a sock over at Duke we were getting everyone soft like non-stop because our curve was trying to like I said when dudes do it right we follow so you guys have been doing it right for a while so now we're just kind of trying to follow suit so we're starting to qualify a lot of guys through every board school the opportunity of either if a dude wants to go to everywhere school at the school house there's also opportunities to get picked up for everyone units I was supposed to go to airborne unit I had orders to Alaska I said well I'm a beach boy from Puerto Rico so not today Isis so I orders with a dude to Fort Hood somebody was like Fort Hood is gonna suck but I had multiple rotations on a Fort Hood because of the dudes that were there like I mentioned like my boy Timmy officer out of he never let me stay home he's like oh you're do all tom you still have 30 days of developing a sign this piece of paper please you're deploying again - he took care of me but yeah everyone schools easy to get Air Assault super easy to get those I would argue dose through schools or the easiest ones to get in our career field and then the rest of the schools are going to be based on your location where you're stationed at so if you're stationed with a unit that has like a Pathfinder school nearby super easy to get dudes that are near those bases literally just walk on but Pathfinder range in all schools they're not hard to get at all if you want to get them if you want to get them you're gonna have the opportunity to go I'm going to some schools here after I complete my training I'm gonna be a big boy and start jumping out of higher altitudes with you guys so yeah and then I made a dumb decision and I decided I want to go to Ranger so I'll be doing that okay so when is that so that we maybe we don't release this podcast or maybe we hook you up and we I hacked the Ranger fat guys in this and you know really hook yep a man having my buddies that I deploy with with group or something are actually instructors out there and they're all ones encouraging me to go so they're already waiting for me so oh yeah that's the worst it's like the best worst thing yeah so my whole thing is like hey if I manage to make it with you guys beating me down but I guess I really are nothing so but yeah definitely trying to go out there sometime in the summer because like I said sure we're there dude hundred ten degrees all about that weather anything beneath 72 my gravy who pjax very specifically on the road seven gray poofy jacket every that's funny to what when did you go through web the school of things I can't remember that yeah yeah okay so that was the winter class so yeah you're pretty cold thing because that elevation up there in the mountains around you around a lot yeah I'm not gonna lie highlight that some czt instructors learn to throw any names uh you know I'll talk peaches and other dudes never like to run in the moment that some people find out that good or room but doesn't like to be in the top of the mountain like oh don't know you're gonna top my we don't want to you don't want you to be cold I mean it whenever you that would be a check check and a Roger which in military terms usually means f off that's right next that noted which is also good news recently so room but what would you like as a when your home station what would a normal normal day or a normal week look like for you yeah so I'll you Savannah and then Duke right different different tempos so so I know where I was there what me on average you're obviously gonna PT a ton in the mornings you know we have the physical therapist right now that's the sports team they take care of all your PT so talking about 79 you're probably to be in doing PT after that we're obviously mirrored a lot of your stuffs and now we're broken down into teams so after that you're gonna check in with your team see what's going on I'd argue like minimum three days out of the week you're gonna be doing some sort of training out in the ranges MOA whatever you're gonna be doing controlling we have all simulators just like CC T's do so you're gonna be controlling the sim trying to hone those static skills a lot earlier than before I like I mentioned before you I I went to pipeline and everything happen to fall into place but dudes have to wait a little bit longer to go to jtac school now they're trying to qualify dudes within 18 months which is pretty quick so you're getting a lot of a1c JTACs in the career field so you'll do that one day one of the days out of the weeks you'll be under the weapons and tactics mentoring so those dudes will do some advanced training academics you're gonna get some Intel briefs we're always doing tilt briefs weekly and then on Fridays you know for those who work hard we party hard to add another week you're gonna get some sweet briefs and then you're gonna go hang out in the Heritage Room she's not worth their at it sure perfect that's it absolutely it is 100% not a bar we don't have those we have heritage rooms don't you guys I went to our unit they think otherwise but how did you they're like dude what is welcome to our heritage room there's all the Heritage so so for everybody's listen that the the backdrop behind that is the Air Force is not allowed to have bars at their units you know as in bars drinking bars right so because that would be promoting drinking and a frat boy type mentality if you will whatever so oh that would be bad that we got terrible I would never work for an organization no I wouldn't when I continue that era never work for an organization that puts such a high focus on drinking especially binge drinking and especially after work I would never do that what I would prefer is an organization that has a proud history of all the people that came before us in the same room as maybe a couple kegs that's all I'm saying with some you know III almost self-illuminated I use that phrase specifically because I remember in a brief with a 2-star that was briefing us and he was like you know you guys in this frat boy mentality and I'm like what I know what you're talking about yeah well literally you're right like what does that mean checking down the background is like Jimmy put the beer down okay remember you've you've provided quite a comprehensive you know details about tacky and what they do on a conventional side so still you know treading lightly with with talking about stuff what would you as a soft tack pee going in what are the kind of differences or changes in that mindset and that mission set yeah so I'll speak for myself and my boys a a Duke so the temple is a little bit different like I mentioned now we're working with a special law which specialized units that have a more smaller focus if that makes sense we're focused on our individual capabilities the tempo of our training is a lot more so our numbers are smaller like in the team that I'm in it there's only eight of us right now so eight dudes I'm the weapons officer so we can definitely focus on RJ tech stuff and then we're obviously on pervy which we can do a lot of training here based on the things that are here so and the south side you know talking for the dudes at the 17th or like the 2s via the two CSS CSS for my bros if I can those dues are working with more specialized units you know their their focus is on their specific mission sets and there's a lot of resources and time spent to make sure that those dues at the top of that game I will always highlight that one thing that I learned from a CCT when I was at weapon school was that a lot of dudes look at the differences and like you know our methods of transportation which it's honestly all it is like conventional moves a certain way soft moves a certain way but at the end of the day a CC TJ I can attack PG a tag go after the same thing we're trying to hone our skills we're trying to make ourselves better JTACs by being able to do things faster so that's what I would argue on the south side we're kind of focus on because we don't have such a big customer to we're about we're just more focused on honing our skills ok it really took a good point have have any of you other dudes ever worked with any conventional or set salt tech B's yeah I got them on my troop right now peaches yeah yeah we're all mixed team stuff that at the SES I work at so and I those dudes are out there getting after it I got guys going to cold weather I pulled a couple guys off one trip to go get some live cast going on so we use those those dudes a lot and I got you know speaking for the guys that you know work on my troop and those guys get after it it's been good yeah yeah my first rotation we had a soft tack be out there with uh sonic on my controller because we're out there with two teams and then at the two three yeah we're all mixed up so fair a bit of experience and you know hey when it comes down to Jay tacking I couldn't really tell the difference on the soft side you know they're both doing exactly what they're needed to do and the combat controllers just haven't some other stuff that they worried about that's a get after but it was all good yeah I've done some trainings with them prior to deployment it was just as they were trying to integrate him into our teams like he said they are now Aaron was just saying but I want to also ask one of the questions about transitioning from conventional to soft tack P was there an extra selection process in there for guys that are trying to like if they're thinking like I'm gonna go conventional and then saw like what do I some of the steps take to get there yeah so right now there's two different selections Peach's you're talking some of the movements for some units going to other units yeah I think ultimately there's going to be we're not sorry we're not trying to cover that one yeah so there's going to be there's two selections right now at some point they may be three but you definitely go through a separate selection and assessment to get picked up into a flock nothing to deter dudes from you know I went through selection and when I went through selection I was a weapons officer which I really appreciated because I was ran through the same thing that all the other conventional attack peas or dudes that hats off experience went through we all went through the same selection for the unit that I am in so they treated us all the same you can just expect like like I said if 35 pounds was a minimum with a ruck and you better bump that thing up so minimum standards I see you're all podcast and the amount of times that you guys highlight that like the minimum should not be what you should be aiming for so I think you guys hit it on the nail if you're gonna go to selection you gotta train harder you guys try to be honestly the way I've mentally kind of think about it is I gotta treat it trying to beat the guy that I was yesterday so if I'm trying to beat the guy that I was yesterday I'm always gonna be a little bit better I'm not gonna be you know worlds apart from yesterday but I definitely try to run a little bit faster review more push-ups because that's what you need a selection that's good that's a you're always in a competition whether it's with yourself or with somebody else on the team yeah awesome well I know the the intent of this podcast or this at least episode was to provide everybody with the background a seat on TAC P just because we we get constant questions about it and believe it or not that the two career fields that everybody's been been begging us to talk about are our s our and tack P that's our a so hot right now oh my goodness it's some hot fire coming off that special reconnaissance it just needs to work on his blue steel I don't yeah your blue steel is actually part your selection like s are doesn't need to do anything you just sit there and you look really good and people are like oh my god what is going on meanwhile you're sitting there just like I don't let you know in a second it's classified so don't ask so I didn't want to transition a little bit just because at least we're talking about tack being and kind of what the difference is between tap P and CCT so I remember you've done a fantastic job of covering what attack P is and I'm sure we'll still get a couple questions that we could dive in on later and probably have you on another another episode to go into those additional questions and because maybe we didn't you know pick the scab or dig deep enough in some of these but transitioning a little bit just to in your opinion what would be some of the primary differences between a tack PE and a CC T at least from the conventional side yeah so again like Trent mention tackies we're very focused on like fires integration jtac is like our bread and butter we trained to shoot move communicate but that's a method to ultimately always get to jtech right CCTV's say messin shoot move communicate jtac plus survey plus land aircraft plus you know make sure everything set up for a jump so I would argue techies of our mission set we jtech our main thing is we have multiple echelons or different types of units that we have to support whereas ECT it's a J talk to your team he also has to consider his messes a transportation but that's not his only job you know so for you guys you guys have your service stuff your Airfield stuff landing aircraft which is a huge eye-opener when we go to weapons school for attack view to even get close to doing similar stuff you have to get a co certified so you have to get like work with an air mobility officer and get all this additional training we're a CCT that's you know your air traffic control school not everything that you guys went through all that makes you guys an expert like you're pretty much air traffic control tower with two radios which is kind of scary but pretty awesome at the same time so if you think about it from that perspective like the CCT is gonna be able to do that so he's gonna be able to like you know jump ahead of the team set up an airfield let you know land aircraft on that airfield while still doing his jtac job for awesome the convention asad we are moving with the maneuver force and we are J tacking with that maneuver force the entire time we're not really separating ourselves from that maneuver force whereas ECT JTAC needs to be able to work with the team and then do it by himself with his bro Chad so yeah I think that's I think that covers it pretty well I don't know would you guys add anything else to that specifically I was sitting here going like and what else should I add to that but that's pretty good synopsis you know that's awesome and I mean that that's like the walk-off mic drop of the differences between the two um I just want to put out there like especially the way that we're moving all of those missions you know global access strike and recovery JTACs are a part all three PJ's are a part are all three CC T's part all 3 SRS part all three like we work in those small teams to make those missions happen so those global access those surveys those controlling of the airfield those forcible entry procedures every you know we're all working together at this point it's been a great thing that you know TAC team moved over you know under the Special Warfare banner and you know you guys are definitely following along faster like man that's awesome because you know you you guys are a force multiplier you know the same as CCT is just in different sort of flavors and once you start figuring out how to use those career fields correctly man you can you can be a pretty lethal force attack bees a big part of that great like you guys have been doing a good we're just following yeah I think one of the things that if you want to clear up just because I know this is probably going to be a question from dudes so you're saying that you know cease to tease and tack peas are stationed together you know doing the same kind of mission sets working together they're gonna ask you know why would they take a CCTV at AK p on a mission and I know like some of our LZ stuff and that survey stuff but if it's trip first rate jtac stuff what do you guys what do you guys think right there why would they pick one versus the other how much throw you guys both in the hot seat since I wanted to hear something a peach to the opposite of a Mexican standoff they're like no you okay so you got a you're gonna ask for a capability so when people a lot of times what happens is people ask hey I need a jtech so we have to as somebody who you know determines whether there is actually a need or requirement for it's like okay what what do you guys actually need what we need a JTAG okay well a jtech is a qualification what's the location would you anticipate this this person this jtac doing and if it turns out that it is strictly for fire support then and there's no other chance of airfields and it also depends on you know who they're supporting to if it's if it's gonna be big army then okay then we kind of know that it's going to be fire support and stuff like that that's not a guarantee but if there's going to be airfield or air drops or it's a soft team then we may lean towards acct or a soft tech p but if there's airfields at all it's going to be a CCT additionally like I'll use an example I was deployed there was me and a CCT JTAG on the same fob so there's a conventional force which is very common now there's conventional force in the south force same table literally like our talk we shared the talk so we talked to each other all the time I was a senior airman he was a senior airman so there are some that like based on the mission they're like hey man we're gonna have seven manure elements out there the soft dudes are gonna be doing their thing the conventional dudes are going to be providing support for the soft dudes where do you think we need to go where do you where do you want to put you guys I remember like me and the CCT dude who would look at each other we kind of laugh it's both of us are like senior Airmen we're both like bro let's go outside the wiring shoot everything but it took it took like a lot of maturity at that point you go I came in your team is gonna be the lead element that conventional force is just providing support to your fighting so where I'm gonna be best employed is back at the talk I'll run your stack I'll make sure that you have fire support assets like radio and cue and I'll protect kind of your outer boundary and then you handle everything in the target area and we got so good at that that I'd argue there were a lot of firefights and most people would have been like how they're gonna skin this cat but me and this cat like had that down packed like we knew what to do and then it ultimately evolved into like there were a few missions on my army commander is like no Saudis are gonna be moving forward here but we're gonna be moving forward here and we had such a good relationship on point that we are both outside the wire somebody else was running our stack but the seamless transition of assets between the two of us nobody really notices like they never knew it was me controlling all I got controlling because when it comes to Jay tackling lycra felt the same it's just like Pete just said what additional effects you need on the back back side of it and South sac peas and CC teas we give a lot of [ __ ] to each other however I would argue you really can't tell the difference if you're at a squadron like who's Jay tagging cuz they're just Jacob and they don't why don't we date it I'll tell you that from I mean from experience right now like when those two guys are getting on the mic doing like skills you cannot tell those needs train to the same standard it's awesome and peaches to hit it right on the head it's just what effects do you need is this a recovery mission are we out there doing some sort of long-range you know surveillance are we doing no kidding you know bombs on target and stuff like that like it's just different ways to get that capability out there I mean you look at the conventional side it's it's using a hammer to get stuff done versus on the soft side it's more of a scalpel right and it's our similar skill sets but they're also completely different on how you employ the air power to accomplish that mission so they're basically the same thing and I would also say like you when I went through survey school which is not part of my core skill set they would attack these in the class right so that we had nerds like me we had pack peas we have controllers we had everybody in that class so there's nothing saying you can't expand your skill set to cover down on all the mission sets that are out there and attack peas even on the conventional side that I've seen you start talking to some of the pros it's not like they get stuck where they're at if someone needs a JTAC and you're overseas and it's a soft team and you're not a soft tack pea those guys get pulled all the time to do that stuff so you always have to be ready and and I think the best thing about your story was is you know you showed a lot of maturity as as let's get the mission done and being mission focused and that's that's a theme of the day that's everything for all of us and whether we attack the combat controller or whatever you know we produce guys that are going to go out there and accomplish the mission regardless so I thought that was pretty awesome I just blacked out that was well I think we pretty much covered it we at least covered all the questions that I wanted to kind of answer and have hit so unless anybody has anything else I'm gonna wrap it up no I'm gonna remember you cool putting out you're putting out your socials you want to have them go through us how you want to handle it yeah you guys can put out my stuff out there it's JC rumba on Instagram it's easy to find but again I wanted yes sir give me an opportunity thank you for having this podcast a lot of people I do a lot of dudes I'm gonna rat him out like almost all the JTACs at Duke listen to this so but all the information that you guys put out was a huge blessing I think that you guys are out there trying to teach students how to get it done so I appreciate you guys having me on awesome man well thanks for coming on will blast you on social media but for everyone else that does out there that watching or listening thanks for tuning in rumba has is and I'm gonna call you out on it it's kind of a legend in the tack Peak career field light flex from the unit chief of staff yeah whatever right I didn't realize you've reached him as well oh man that just added right on to it I didn't even plan that yeah so yeah his rumba is well known in the community not only of tag P&C CT and Special Warfare but also the weapons officer community coming out of the weapons school so man keep doing what you're doing you're out there crushing it and even guys like me absolutely look up to you and and it's it's fantastic so keep doing what you're doing man thanks bro all right and everybody else out there thanks for tuning in we appreciate
