Urban Golflandia in Portland | Adventures In Golf Season 1

hi my name is Eric you're watching adventures in golf we're here in Portland where a passion for outdoor living combined with one of the world's most enthusiastic beer cultures has led to the adoption of a unique game I'm talking about urban golf where the lush greens are traded in for hard city streets tough game I'm gonna meet up with the founder of the urban Golf Club here see if I can beat him at his own game excuse me car it's good what area of Portland is this man this is North Portland so this is kind of like we're down below what's called the Mississippi district okay where it still really hasn't been discovered so we can urban golf so this is actually the hole yes five feet or what is it this structure as long as you touch this structure on the fly so if you like laser it in there and that's a birdie good or if it what is it apart for we don't put pars on things today I think we tried doing that at first and people felt like it was kind of intimidating I would say somewhere between 90 95 % of people that actually come out and play urban golf I've never stepped on a real golf course before that's amazing in some ways Cleveland is the perfect place for urban golf would you say that's true what happens in most places should make us is that a police presence can happen really quickly especially when they see a bunch of people with golf clubs walking around the police actually will come and look for me and if they're like we're shot it and yeah it's like okay don't break anything have fun is this a good place for me to do a practice swing holes yeah I'm gonna tee it up on this leaf here pretty excited nice all right so I'm I hit a car but it didn't hurt it no so we're headed into the belly of peace the goodwill we're going to keep it weird that I have so I got two options here a nike space in Portland right yeah and we need to find some pants there we go rip city I go wear sweats underneath them my golf bounces blue that okay so the day of urban golf has arrived and fortunately the weather is awful I'm supposed to meet my crew at the laboratory which I believe is right here Scotty what's up man while you really dress the part today you like my Portland outfit so what do we do first before we go play we got a mark some balls so here's your tennis balls game balls game balls personalise your ball I'm gonna make a pink X in hopes that I'll get a get to the hole eventually me personally I would like to put giant teeth right here I like that well you got triangles I'm just getting started good I'm immediately starting to regret my simple X that comments don't fans comment still time we've got about what a dozen people here a dozen people in the rain in October you've never played her phone well I played before yeah I actually thought I invented it I didn't know there was like an organized situation where people came and played urban golf because he used to just get golf balls and see how many who could get the fewest amount of strokes it hit like 15 blocks down the street I'm really looking forward to hitting like shots around cars that's what we used to do growing up no golf balls but I think that this is going to be way cooler because like cars moving and it's okay to hit them because they in school hey so what's the story with urban golf guys why do you play it I've never paid for a round of golf okay that's part of the urban golf you can't pay for you need part with money okay how do you pay for urban golf a week your soul I guess the balls are all painted and now we're ready to go let's do it all right cool so we're going under the overpass and then to the left all right cool here we go first hole it seems like you just want to go as fast as possible oh I can't believe we're out here in the rain doing this nice ball your shoes match the ball nice shot no one's giving track of score and no one needs to tough game you really can see how this game is fun for anybody whoa you hear that good name ah I got treed a crow do you think this will help you a real golf game your tradition yeah probably gonna help right back that might just start using a tennis cool good be good bounce you know what's funny is in Japan I have hole-in-one insurance well not here short shot for a three oh yeah what's that now we just go to the bar all right cool there we go one of the greatest things about urban golf is the camaraderie I had never met these people before and yet by the end of the day we were old friends my new pal Akbar even offered to make me a custom club cover to remember the adventure cheers to that guys cheers you can drink out of the sip together so I brought the gear from yesterday they said we could make a head cover out of it's still a little soggy from all the rain but I was thinking we could do something fun you know Scotty gave me this Portland hat yeah thinking you know this is a vans shirt but I think SoCal meets Portland that's really the vibe you know it'll be a good way to remember your experience Megan do you want to help me out with something she has a stronger opinion and more effective opinion than I do and yes your wife so look at this this is just ever since our beginnings every head cover we make is hand cut so it's because we like to get the plaids to match it seems Oh so the fact that you brought a plaid shirt is like right in our wheelhouse what did you take away from playing urban golf yesterday I took away a wet golf bag and a wet tennis ball but among other things I'm actually thinking that we're going to start playing some mandatory golf Friday in our corporate Park here because I think it was so much fun yes so let's just so she just ripped that off of your hat that's no longer useable amazing this is going to be a limited edition it's very limited look at this this is operating with soft special memory this is amazing yeah Megan did it all we just watched this is so Portland yeah thank you friends thank you thank you so much I was awesome I appreciate it yeah I'm gonna treasure this seriously that's cool that is truly a one-of-a-kind so there you have it folks Sheamus golf can make you a head cover with the shirt off your back man maybe feel a draft the best way to commemorate my time playing urban golf in Portland was to celebrate with a tasty treat at an unknown local donut shop look what they I thought he was going to the goodwill to pick out his club, not his wardrobe. Then I remembered it was Portland.

This was an excellent story. I realize they are hipsters somewhat making fun of the game, but it's still cool.
